Oldiesmann: I'm not aware of any Jenny. Not sure why activity has died down on this site so much though 2023-06-12, 00:06:36

JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Carol, I  read about your problem with a wireless doorbell that was ringing when no one was at the door.  We had that problem too with one that had to be plugged into electricity, and discovered it was when an electrical switch or appliance was turned on or off somewhere else in the house, and it caused the doorbell to ring.  Frustration for sure.....we finally bought a different doorbell that does not have to be plugged into an electrical outlet, and it is plenty loud. If you decide you need to do this, we can recommend the one that we got:
"Honeywell RCWL300A1006 Premium Portable Wireless Door Chime and Push Button".
We can hear it from any room in the house.  We also take it out onto the patio since it is portable and needs no electricity.  It runs on a battery.  We ordered it from Amazon.
This is the day the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.   Ps 118:24

Janice

Sorry I have not been here for awhile.  Life has been difficult for us the last few months.  Earl has been in hospital twice, the last time he was there 12 days.  Had a checkup today, and his lungs are filling up again already.  He has congestive heart failure.  He was in nursing home/rehab for 3 weeks and had been home only a week when our son passed away.  He was 50, and they think he had a heart attack.  His funeral was one month ago today.  He is buried beside us, where we will be someday.  We had one extra plot and his wife agreed to have him buried here as she could not afford to buy a plot where they live.  They had only been married less than 5 years, so he had no children.  She had 3 grown sons when they got married.

Etta Sue, I see you are crocheting again!  Wish I could get half as much accomplished as you do!  I am making a baby afghan too, for our new little gr gr dtr, born in Amarillo on the 8th.  Her pictures sure are cute.  We will get to see her one of these days.  She is Earl's oldest son's gr dtr.

I will try and catch up on reading here at CP as soon as I can.  Remember us in your prayers, as we have so many health concerns.

Love to all,

~Janice

Janice I am sorry to hear of your troubles.  I am praying.

Kassie has a job and a G1 lisence.  That is the beginner lisence of graduated licensing.  She is doing quite well at driving, I am pleased.  John teaches the lesson and then she practises with me.  This is going to be a process of learning, and I am surprised at how much she watches us when we drive.  She was going too fast to make a left hand turn today so she quickly cancelled the signal and continued straight ahead.  When she had slowed down sufficently she turned into a driveway got herself (and us) turned around and went back.  That time she went quite slow to make sure she could safely navigate the turn.  She will make a good driver as long as she remembers that she needs to be in control of the vehicle, not the vehicle in control of her.

John's dispatcher is off on indefinate leave.  He started a while back with kidney cancer, then bowel cancer and now they are doing tests again.  He has difficulty breathing and talking.  Hopefully they know soon what is going on and are able to deal with it.

It is late and I have more to read.....so night all

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  We had rain again during the night.  I have no idea how much and heard no thunder so it must have been a gentile rain.  Today is coffee at the senior center.

My laid back day for yesterday turned into a very tiring one.  After coffee we went walking and then spent an hour at the grocery store.  I started working on rearranging my office and had to stop to rest and then continued for another couple of hours.  I was so exhausted last night that I went to bed at 8 and was asleep by 9.  Feel much rested the morning and will try to have a less busy day.  I got the major part of the office reorganization completed.  My calendar is clear for today after I get home from coffee.

Janice, so sorry to read of the loss of your son and the hospitalization of your husband and both within the same month.  These things certainly take a toll on us.

Judy, a teenager driving, and especially teaching them to drive, can be quite an experience.  I had to teach my wife how to drive and it was not a fun experience.  It sounds like your daughter will be a very good driver.

Carol, no help on the doorbell problem but it does sound like Janice has a solution and probably the cause.  Too bad since Don can hear it. Like you we always enjoy having company although we have lived where we don't too often have it.  So it is a special time when we do.

Etta Sue, getting down on your hands and knees is a tough thing to do.  I can get down but getting up is becoming more problematic each month.  I heard there were more tornados in Indiana again last night.

AMEN Jeanne  AMEN

Larry John is the teacher and what I have learned from him is to not show my nervousness.  For me that is so hard.  After the mistake I asked her if she knew what she had done wrong.  She did.  The problem that was frustrating her was a car behind her who she felt was tailgating.  She had plenty of time to pass but didn't take it.  Another learning experience.  Thankfully here we live in the country and she was on familiar territory.

Etta Sue

Ha!  I know the word 'graceful' could never be used when I am getting up from the floor.  I could never mop on my hands and knees.  I sit on the floor and scoot around.  But the getting up part is the hardest!

What I thought would be a half hour job ended up being over 3 hours!  Pastor Steve called to see if I could check out some YouTubes that I could convert and save on a CD for tonight and Sunday.  Sure.  First he had to go to the church and get the list of YouTubes he wanted.  So I asked if he had time to come here.  So he got here around 8:30.

He had 4 videos.  (Going to use two but wants Ruth Ann to pick which two)  Three downloaded fine but the fourth didn't have sound.  I finally got them downloaded and on a CD.  I know they work on a computer but I am sure they won't on a DVD/CD player!  He left after being here an hour.  Then I thought I could put them in the projector program...wrong file name.  So I had to convert them.  That took over an hour!!  Finally got them in the program....11:30pm.

So this morning I took the CD and Flash Drive to church.  I installed them off the Flash Drive to the projector program and no sound.  This happened once before and Ruth Ann had muted the sound since that irritates her when loading stuff for Sundays.  I couldn't find out how to un-mute so I left.  I called Steve and let him know that all was at the church but I didn't have sound.

Is it wrong to say, I did my part...now it's your part to get the sound?

I have made DVD's before with videos and they play on the DVD/CD player...but I can't remember how I did it or what program I used!! Would it be a Data DVD burn?

Oh, well.  Today is rehab at 2pm and tonight is Good Friday Service at 7pm at church.

Cloudy and misting rain already today.  Suppose to get serious this afternoon.  I don't like to say rain when parts of the country are needing moisture.  Just wish Indiana could send it some place else where it is needed.

Al Moak

I have what I suppose is a very common problem.  I have a fixed income with which I must somehow face rising fuel costs (and for that matter, other rising costs as well).  Could we all pray together that the rising gasoline prices will stop rising and begin falling?  Along with that, and closely related, could we pray for grace to avoid thoughts of veangance against those responsible for the rising costs?  I'm in need of this spiritual help - are any of you also in such need?

JudyB

You want to believe it Al we need that grace as well.

Carol

Al:  I will pray for you.  I have mean thoughts that need prayer & guidance.

Janice:
You have a heavy load after losing your son and now Earl is so fragile.  I am praying for strength and faith for you and Earl and an answer to his health problems.

Janice:    Thank you for taking your so limited free time to look up a solution for our crazy doorbell.  Don tells me that it does not plug into an electrical outlet so unfortunately your answer won't help us right now.  It has been quiet for two days.

It reminds me of a few months ago we had company staying at the house who had to get up early for medical appointment - they woke up much too early to a portable radio I had stashed in the closet that was set on a timer.  Don and I slept though it because of the closed doors and distance but we all had a good laugh later.

A loaf of basic white bread is in the breadmaker and a dessert of tart apples and some frozen cranberries I had in the freezer is ready to pop in the oven.  Don has watched everything he has eaten & his blood sugar went down - it goes to borderline diabetes much too quickly anymore.  We really cut out desserts except when someone is coming - cousin today.

Larry: Praying for your endurance.

We can't go to the outdoor Easter service - the only one they have - this year either.  Wind, rain & cold weather - it is freezing here tonight so it goes.  We will go to a little church that is being held in a school after I check the time.  Cannot abide taking bus shuttles and parking along with over 3,000 people to go to a huge uncovered place - well, cannot do that anymore.  Then, the big screen in church will show the service but without the microphone and the hearing device attached to it - Don cannot understand a word so we will do things our own way this year.  We feel blessed to live here with so many good friends and close to the children who drop everything to help in so many ways.

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  Al, I understand your frustration.  It is hard enough to support two people on a retirement but we are supporting three and there just isn't anything left at the end of the month.  I am not complaining because so far we have made it and there are a few luxuries that we can cut out if we have to.  Our gas is less here than in other places as is still around $3.68 cents but I am sure it is going up.  Those of us retired are fortunate to not face a commute on a daily basis.

Worked several more hours in my office and have just about finished the job.  I probably have another hour or so of work and then should be done.  I am trying to make good use of the space I have.  I stayed home all day.  It has turned colder here this afternoon and is damp.

Carol, you are wise to do what is best for you.  I elected not to attend our Maundy night services last night even though our choir was singing.  I was so tired last evening that I was very glad I hadn't made a commitment to attend.

Etta Sue, I understand your frustrations.  Sometimes when we don't use some of the computer programs very often the process rather fades in our minds.  It sounds like you did your part.

Judy, sometimes we have to bite our tongues to keep quiet when doing something like teaching someone to drive.  They want to accomplish it in the best way and can be very sensitive to reactions and comments.

Jeanne, I liked your graphic.  It presents the message very well.

Gord Brown

:)  Good morning to all and I guess for a new day I will be first to be here.  We had a busy last two days as on Thursday I took my wife to a bible study then went to the mission and worked at the food bank and it was steady from the time we opened till close.  Then to pick up the ladies and to drop of one and go home to eat lunch.   We have cleaners come as my wife and I have a hard time doing that now.  The people that do this are handicapped and have a supervisor with then and the girl that doesours is very good.  We are so grateful for this service.

Janet:  I am so glad that you got through things and all the prayer that went forward we new that you would be able to do what you wanted to do at the memorial for your mother.

Carol:  Glad to here that you know that it is better to stay put when there is a chance that you could be caught in bad storms. :)

Al:  I think that we are all in the same boat when it comes to money we get no increases in our pensions and it seems that so many things just keep getting more expensive.  We know that the way things are going in this world that the Lord's return could be soon so we need to leave all things to the Lord.  Look after yourselves and don't overdo it.

May the Lord be with you all on this wonderful weekend when Christ will rise.  Praise his name for ever. :cp:

During these times of trouble we need to remember who protects us....

A mighty fortress is our God
(Click to hear music)

A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing;
Our helper He, amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing:
For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe;
His craft and power are great, and, armed with cruel hate,
On earth is not his equal.

Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing;
Were not the right Man on our side, the Man of God's own choosing:
Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is He;
Lord Sabaoth, His Name, from age to age the same,
And He must win the battle.

And though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us,
We will not fear, for God hath willed His truth to triumph through us:
The Prince of Darkness grim, we tremble not for him;
His rage we can endure, for lo, his doom is sure,
One little word shall fell him.

That word above all earthly powers, no thanks to them, abideth;
The Spirit and the gifts are ours through Him Who with us sideth:
Let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also;
The body they may kill: God's truth abideth still,
His kingdom is forever.

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  I posted rather late last evening so will just check in and perhaps be back later.

Gord, you stayed up pretty late last night if the time on your message is correct.  Our church supports the local food bank and several members actively work in that effort.  The other day they were completely out of food and sent out an emergency message asking for food.  wouldn't it be frightening to open your pantry and see nothing to eat in it and have no money to buy any food.  So many people have lost their jobs and homes here in the USA and now prices are steeply rising.  I sometimes fear that the foxes are in charge of the hen house.  We also have housekeepers come every two weeks and it is nice to have it all done at once and everything spotless.

Judy, thanks for the hymn.

JohnB

Hi Folks Been a while but thought I would type a few words down here today Looking out our kitchen window this morning and was disappointed to see dreery rainy weather out there. i was hoping to do some things outside today but I quess I'll put them on the back burner for now. Got home about mid day yesterday and am really enjoying my new truck. It is laid out inside and rides with the comfort of a car. As a matter of fact it rides nicer than our Car. Never had such a comfortable truck in all my career. Great for an old guy to close his career with. The Road Nights duties are now going in full swing and I am having a blast with that. I find it so refreshing to to present to sponges who listen and onsorb every word you say to them. This is an excellent program and we are in June going to be shooting 2 videos which I will be involved in hopefully with my truck. Looking forward to this experience. I have done camera shoots before and its a great experience. Sat down at the computer this am and wrote a 2 page reflection on the importance of easter in a Christians life, I would like to give it to our paster tomorrow before church. I was giving this some thought this week as I was driving and decided to put words to paper this morning while things were quiet in the house as I am the only one up at the moment. Judy didnt sleep well last night so letting her sleep in a while and the girls to so, they don't disturb mom with their banter. Hear some stirring going on in the house so will go for now and see if anyone is looking for breakfast. Thats usually my job in the mornings when I'm home. A way fro dad to connect after being away all week. My breakfasts are appreciated. Blessings all and have a blessed Easter time remembering who sacrificed all for our salvation. Bonsey

Hello all,
Sorry I have been MIA here this week... been a very busy week in preparation for Easter. Ruth is excited this year. Last year she was a little to young to do do any egg hunts. She woke up a live wire this morning. Janet I am happy to hear that the memorial services for your mother were so good :). Anyway I need to get off here and get some housework done. Hope everyone has a good weekend :)

Our family had a big laugh once when one of my sons was learning to drive. I didn't yell if a mistake was made, but occasionally (unconsciously), my right foot would hit that "imaginary brake pedal" so hard the sound was heard throughout the VW van. None of the children had said anything about this habit for years. But the laugh came once when I "hit the brake" and a thundering herd did in response!!

On another sad note, most likely our apartment building has a grieving family this weekend. Here's what happened: As I returned home after our Tenebrae service last evening, a young black man burst from the stairwell, sobbing, and almost screaming. Another young man was near the postal boxes, and I asked him for emergency assistance. He phoned Towers security, which includes a couple plus 2 more individuals living in my bldg as well as security officers.

I stepped to the airlock door, invited him to sit with me in the chairs inside the door and comforted him and prayed for him as he sobbed uncontrollably. The security couple split with wife calling 911 and remaining with the  father (who indeed may not have lived through the night) while the husband checked on the sobbing son. This son had checked on his dad throughout the day, and as I arrived, he had found his father not breathing.  The hubby later returned to tell me, "Well, he IS breathing..." and as the ambulance screamed away, he hung his head. Oh, what sorrow for father and son! I've prayed for them both often since then.

May God's blessings and love pour all around each of us and all with whom we may come in contact.

Ruth Ann

I pray everyone will have a Happy Resurrection Day tomorrow.

Good Morning,  Yesterday was a beautiful day in the neighborhood. I started out to walk  with the dogs wearing my sweatshirt, I took it off and tied it around my waist before I got away from the house. When I came back from walking Bebe I left the sweatshirt in the house  and took off with happy. He didn't want to walk very far, because I didn't want to walk where he wanted to.

We had Chinese for supper last night. I love to get the $9.99 Shanghai Specials from Safeway. My favorite thing is the  Chow Mein noodles.  We had those, Mongolian Beef and Asparagus chicken as well as rice and  egg rolls.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful day today.

Ruth Ann ~ Is the father still alive?  I have that fear of some day checking on Ivalou when she doesn't respond to a phone call.  Don't like to think about it.

Good Friday Service was very heartfelt.  Steve showed two of the videos...neither of which I had watched all the way through.  So good for the Good Friday message.

And today, it is bright and sunny.  A perfect day for the Easter Egg hunt that is going on right now.  I have prayed for lots of little kids to come and enjoy the hunt and have their picture taken with the Easter Bunny!  Youth Minister Brad and his wife, Krista, work so hard for the few kids in the church...I have prayed that this event will be a blessing to them as well as all the little kids.

Tomorrow morning at 7am is Sunrise Service.  Then the Elders and Deacons are preparing breakfast for anyone who wants to attend.  Then Easter Sunday Service and Sunday School.

After that I have been invited for Easter Dinner to Kitty and Bob's house.  She doesn't know who all will be there but hopefully Katie will be there.  Also hoping she will come up with some of her Katie-isms...words of wisdom from her mouth.  The imagination of little kids!  Katie is 5 years old.

So it will be a busy weekend.  A happy and sad weekend.  Where would we be without the resurrection?

Yesterday being Good Friday was Cloudy and dreary.   Today  is sunny so I trust that tomorrow being Easter Sunday will be the most perfect day as it is when our Saviour rose from the grave.

Yesterday afternoon, we being Mel, myself & auntie met a cousin for lunch at Swiss Chalet, the lunch was good as always but other attitudes toward myself was noticed my the cousin, I do the tolerating but as you know it can and is frustrating.  Then early evening our daughter gave us a call and we met for coffee.

Janice:  So sorry about your problems. Do your best to keep strong.

Judy:  Kassie is learning to drive what about Elizabeth?  Perhaps one at a time is enough.

Soon we will be going to a 60th wedding anniversary open house then following that we will be stopping at the grocery store.

Ruth

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.  Proverbs 3:6

Carol

The downstairs bed is ready for new company - gotta keep ahead of everyone.  Table is set for 8 tomorrow afternoon - not all the family can get here but we give thanks for those who still want to come and sit and give thanks for Easter.

Prayed for the man who had to take an ambulance to the hospital and his son.

Gord:  I hope I do know enough to get out of the rain  ;) but it doesn't bother me when it is light and not too cold (raised in Seattle weather).

Marilyn:  We found an excellent Chinese restaurant not too far and they have beautiful food for under $6 - including soups and tea.  Exceptionally clean too.  There is so much food that we take home half of the meal for the next day and this time I froze a huge portion.

Larry:  Food prices are being raise every time I go to the store - this is unbelievable.

Ruth:  I have two cousins celebrating Golden anniversaries within a month.  I used to think that was really really old.  Now, I am not so sure.

Gord Brown

:)    Larry:  At the mission there have been times when we did get very low but the Lord always supplies and it is amazing when you go back the next week how much more food comes in.  Praise his name.

Judy B.  Thanks for that great old hymn bings back a lot of memories. All our love Sis. :)

Ruth;  How are you and Mel?  Hope that Mel is regaining his strength.

Bonesy:  Hi John it sound's like you are having a wonderful time doing thing's with the kid's and the Road Knight's. I think I would loved to do thing's like that also it is a great privilage.  What kind of truck is your new one and does it have a double sleeper or single?  Keep the silver side up. :coffee:

To all others have a wonderful and Blessed day tomorrow in the house of the Lord and on Resurrection day Praise his name. God Bless you all.  Gordon and Noreen. :) :cp:

I got a couple of days behind in here!  I have been keeping really busy, and spending a lot of time on writing Beth's book.  I am really getting excited about what God will do with the book, and about Beth receiving her healing.  Can you just imagine how many people will be touched to hear about that?  God says we can have whatsoever we say; so I say BETH IS HEALED, in the Name of Jesus!

Today I finished some framing, visited Beth, Got some cleaning and straightening done, worked on the book, put the extra leaves in the table for tomorrow, then took Beth and her friend Gloria to the movies to see HOP.  It was corny, but rather cute.  At least I could understand what they were saying--in a lot of movies, I can't.

I did read all your posts, and Janice, I am so sorry about your troubles.  I will be praying for you as soon as I sign off here.

Carol, standing out in the chilly rain doesn't sound like much fun!

Larry, would you like to come and organize my office space now?  ;)

It is time for me to get to sleep; and I hope I can!

I am all ready to head to church for Sunrise Service.  It is dark out!!  Then stay for breakfast and then the Easter service and Sunday school.

For lunch I am going to Kitty and Bob's.

And hoping to be home in time for a nap early enough it won't bother with sleeping tonight.

HAPPY EASTER!!

"HE IS RISEN INDEED"

Larry Hanna

Happy Easter everyone as we celebrate the Risen Lord and what that means for us.  It is a beautiful day here with the sun out and no wind.  We will attend church today and then come home and have lunch as this is not a good day to go to a restaurant as late as we get out of church.  We will end our service this morning by singing the Hallelujah Chorus.  Pat and I then will have a quiet and restful day. We did not bring our daughter out as she hasn't been feeling at all well and we had been down to see her the last three weeks, including having her out here overnight.  We will be seeing her on Thursday of this week.

Janet, after having spent two very tiring days working on reorganizing my office I will have to decline your kind offer.  I finished the job up yesterday and we will ask the housekeepers tomorrow to help get these big boxes under the bed where I am storing them (the bed is in my office).  I threw out about three large bags of old papers and things that no longer are useful.  I have several things to give to the housekeepers to take to the charity location that sells things.  I am getting rid of two boxes of books that we will never use again as this freed up a lot of space for little plastic drawer cabinets to store office supplies and things I will need to be able to access.

Ruth Ann, you are such a kind and caring person and sure your tenderness was comforting to the young man in his time of grief.  Hopefully the father will recover.  I would say it wasn't an accident that you were at that spot at that exact time.

Ruth, I find it helpful to remember it is the person who carries the resentment that hurts themselves more than the other person especially since we can do nothing to control the other persons thoughts.

Bonesy, that new truck sound like a beauty and so glad you are able to enjoy it as you near the end of your driving days.

Marilyn

Happy Resurrection Day it is indeed a wonderful day to contemplate all that Jesus has done for us.

It is raining and dreary  here where I live today.  Typical Oregon weather for this time of year. Well it is 3 more weeks before we leave for the high desert and hoping the weather will be clear and sunny. According to the weather channel website it  should be in the 60's  in daytime and low 30's at night. That's gonna be kinda cool.

It is good to read about the happenings in everyone's lives and to pray for those who need prayer.

wE ARE CONTINUING TO PRAY FOR THE FATHER AND SON. nO ONE HAS HEARD OF HE HAS MADE THE CROSSING OR WHETHER HE REMAINS IN THE HOSPITAL. tHE SON'S LOVE FOR HIS FATHER, TO ME, IS A BIT OF AN EXAMPLE OF HOW MUCH AGONY OUR sAVIOUR ENDURED DURING THE LONG gETHSEMANE NIGHT. i CAN SEE jESUS' LOVE FOR hIS fATHER SHINING THROUGH THat night. He not only loved US enough to give His life for us, but He also loved His Father so much he submitted to God's will.

May we never forget.

Church was SO meaningful today. We were given small white flowers as we entered the sanctuary. Then, near the end of our pastor's sermon, he asked us to look quietly at our flower and consider which part of us needed the shed blood of our Saviour to make us white as snow again. I saw a flawed child of God who needed His touch afresh.
