Morning Devotional...

The Holy are Humble

Verse

And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death--even death on a cross! Philippians 2:8

The Church in America suffered a greater loss than she has since discovered when she rejected the example of good men and chose for her pattern the celebrity of the hour. Human greatness cannot be determined by popularity polls nor by the number of lines any man rates in the public press. It is altogether unlikely that we know who our greatest men are. One thing is sure, however--the greatest man alive today is the best man alive today. That is not open to debate. To discover the good great man (granted that it would be to our profit to do so) would require more than human wisdom. For the holy man is also the humble man and the humble man will not advertise himself nor allow others to do it for him. Spiritual virtues run deep and silent. Like the tide or the pull of gravitation or the shining of the sun, they work without noise, but their gracious ministrations are felt around the whole earth. The Christian who is zealous to promote the cause of Christ can begin by living in the power of the Spirit and so reproducing the life of Christ in the sight of men. In deep humility and without ostentation he can let his light shine. The world may pretend not to see, but it will see, nevertheless, and more than likely it will get into serious trouble with its conscience over what it sees.

Thought

Andrew Murray wrote: "Pride is the likeness of Satan, humility that of Jesus." Of the aspects of Christlikeness it is probably humility that is most foreign to contemporary American culture.

Prayer

Lord, You humbled Yourself in degree I can never know. Yet the more I gaze upon You the more reason I have to be humble.

Hi everyone.  Yesterday was sort of a lost day for me as was extremely tired all day.  I did go to coffee but when I came home I managed to read through my message boards and make a posting.  About 10 am I laid down and slept for two hours.  This is something I can't remember doing in the past.  I was up for a couple of hours and then needed to rest again for a couple more hours.  I then went to bed early last night.  I know this is boring but that was my day.  I hope to feel up to church this morning but that remains to be seen.

Carol, now you will be anticipating your bd present from Don.  Hope he wasn't upset that you saw the picture.  I don't know how anyone can look at nature and not believe there is a Higher Power that created all of this and has given us the ability to enjoy and appreciate it.

Etta Sue,  that isn't good news for Ivalou at all.  Our eyes are so important.  Hope you were able to relax yesterday and recover from your trip.

Janet, I have a good friend who has macular degeneration and has held off or slowed  further progression of it with those vitamins.  My dad had it and I am careful to have my vision checked once a year.  My dad never lost his sight other than peripheral vision in one eye from a small stroke.

Marilyn,  sorry to hear you also have some macular degeneration.  Glad it isn't severe.

Ruth Ann, I see you also have the same eye condition.  Sure hope this isn't catching as those of us without it may be in the minority.  Gald you found time for a restful day.  Is your son now living in your former home or still working on it?

Betty, I am sure that everyone understood why you missed the service.  Life intervenes and we are wise to put these things behind us and live the day we have today.  I often ask myself "how important is it" and find it doesn't rank very high on my scale of importance.

Bonnie,  I agree with you about the celebrations of life.  Mourning is important and a normal part of the life cycle but so is remembering the good times and the value of a persons life.

Don, thanks for sharing the devotional thoughts for this week.

Etta Sue

The specialist told us that MD is caused by hereditary, old age and/or smoking.  If our parents had it, we didn't know.  And Ivalou was never a smoker but she did live with one for 35 years.  Online it says mostly white old females!  Ivalou take coumadin so that is a contributing factor as well.  Online it says to wear sunglasses outside at all times...ones with UV lenses.

I am ready for church and ready to head out the door.  Looks to be another sunny, bright day in Indiana.  Cool right now but is to warm up!

I am back.  the connection is iffy, not always able to get into the site.

Don thank you for the devotional.  True humility is so rare in our age.

Carol Don could be having cluster migranes, they are treatable.  Until you have a final diagnosis keep digging.

I have read all the comments and cannot possibly remember what I was going to coment on each.

Oh Etta Sue John's mother had MD.  She lived to 90 and was able to read large print, and watch TV.  She won't be totally disabled with this.

Got to run John wants the computer.

Afternoon everyone.

I have checked out the Challenge and will be opening it for voting tomorrow night.  You have till then to add your entries, I encourage you to do so.  Have you a picture of how you or yours have Beat the Heat in Summer?!  Lets see them.  If I can post surely you can as well!

This Sunday has certainly been different from any other in my life!  Beth's friend Becki and her friend Todd were here to visit Beth, Todd had taken another friend to Longmont, Colo. to visit her family and so he could see the mountains, which he'd never seen.  Anyway, he didn't get back here until very late last night.  (Erica stayed in Longmont, and will rent a car and drive back to Fargo when she is ready to go.) I had rooms for him and Becki, so let them sleep this morning until they got up on their own, then made them breakfast.  They went into town, and I followed soon after.  They weren't at the home, so I went ahead and did another interview for my series.

When they showed up, they had been to Alco getting photos printed for Beth.  These two are wonderful people; Becki also has NF, and John has a mental illness of some kind, but he is brilliant!  Really fascinating to visit with, and has very innovative ideas which I think will be developed to help many people.  I know...TMI, but anyway----I just got home.

All of this means I didn't go to church today, and that will likely confuse my whole week, but I felt it was important to spend more time with Beth and her friends.  I bought them lunch there at the home, and we ate in the conference room by ourselves so we could visit and laugh--which we did, a lot!  :lol:

They left at the same time I left, and were going to stop in Dodge City at the casino, as neither has been to one before.  I'm sure they won't stay long, as Todd has to be at work on Tuesday early, and they have 17 hours of driving to do!

Larry, I hope you felt up to attending church, and that your energy level will be better tomorrow.  You are so wise to know your limits, and to live fully in the present.  We can all learn a lot from you!

Judy, I'm happy to see you back in here, hope your computer problems are in the past now!

I need to type up my latest 'story'....ttyl!

Well, today was Marbeth's birthday, so, by her choice, we went for lunch to what is called the Marina Cafe on Woodley Island next to Eureka.  From the windows theere you can look at all several piers and lots and lots of boats.  It's very enjoyable.  Since my birthday was on the second, we both got a special desert.

Janet

Happy belated birthday, Al, and happy birthday, Marbeth!

Carol

Late birthday wishes to Al and Marbeth.  Glad you got out for a nice celebration.

The person with severe headaches is our daughter's  father-in-law.  I think he was released today and told to stay nearby but believe they are going to go back to the mountains this week and probably are ready to take their trailer back to Texas.  There is no diagnosis but think it is a viral problem.

Janet:  The mountain view isn't very clear.  This time it is smoke from the west and northwest.  Always something so sorry for Beth's friends to not see the mountains - maybe they were able to get a break.

We have been watching a show about the 20 years that Jesus was missing and it is so interesting but has to be all conjecture, of course.  Well, a lot of could be.  It is fascinating that places are still be found and there are signs that point to biblical names.

There were so few in church this morning but the great news is that giving is way up.

Friends are driving through here tomorrow night.

Don
  Thank you for devotions.  How timely the message.

Ruth Ann Bice

Each time we begin a new page, it's so wonderful to read the Devotionals. Thanks to each of you who do this for us.

Not too much to say today, just I'm thanking our Lord for His day to worship, and to contemplate His loving kindnesses to each of us.

Love to all,
Ruth Ann

Hi everyone.  We had a very nice day yesterday with cooler temperatures.  I did attend church and then Pat and I went to a local restaurant for lunch.  Just resting the rest of the day.  Today is my usual Monday activities which I hope I will be up to completing.  Stacey is suppose to sign the papers on her apartment today.  She is so excited.  Once she has done that she can proceed with arranging with the movers.  I think she has already pretty much packed up her things.  We did have a brief shower last evening but it didn't last very long.

Judy, glad to see you are back online.

Janet, it sounds like Beth's friends must have brought her a lot of happiness and are very kind and caring people.  Looking forward to your next story on the residents at the home.

Al, I want to send a Happy Birthday wish to Marbeth, even if I am a day late.  That sounds like a lovely place to dine.

Carol, know it must be frustrating for the man to have been hospitalized and have no results from the experience.  Maybe he will feel better when he gets back to Texas.

Ruth Ann and Etta Sue, a special hi to you as read your posts.  Also a special welcome to anyone visiting us for the first time or so and would encourage you to post so we can get to know you.  You won't remain a stranger if you give us a chance to know you.

Jeanne Lee

Yesterday was just great!  The Lord provided perfect weather and the afternoon spent with two cousins and their husbands was even better than anticipated.  We had a lovely lingering lunch and then when we visited the house where our parents grew up, which is for sale, we were graciously invited in to see how much has changed over the years.   Surprisingly, although there was a lot that was new, there were also some things that were just as I remembered them.  Memories and tales of times past were flying.  Altogether a really wonderful visit.

He Owns The Cattle
(Click to hear music)

Words and Music by John W. Peterson

Psalm 50:10
"For every beast of the forest is mine,
and the cattle upon a thousand hills."

He owns the cattle on a thousand hills,
The wealth in every mine;
He owns the rivers and the rocks and rills,
The sun and stars that shine.
Wonderful riches, more than tongue can tell -
He is my Father so they're mine as well;
He owns the cattle on a thousand hills -
I know that He will care for me.

JudyB

Remember He also owns the hills!

I remember Gord Brown singing this.......at the top of his lungs~!!!

There are so many with physical, family, deaths amoung our ranks.  Remember we are an Army led by the Mastor Commander.

Janet

Judy, I can tell the babies are birds of some kind, but what?

Jeanne, so glad you had a great visit and got to go inside the house.  Your post was good to read, I could feel your joy radiating off the screen!

I have been to the home to read the next story to the lady I interviewed, got a couple of 'corrections' and then will take her photo in the morning.  That will give me two that I have ready in advance.  I want to get several ready so that they will always have one ready if I am away or not available.  Several people have expressed appreciation for them already, so I feel it's a good thing.

Carl Slemp, whose story I already put in here, wound up owning (so far) 30 quarters of land!  If you have priced land, you know that is a huge accomplishment!  But he needs the Lord, so I ask you to pray for him.  Thanks.  Carl purchased four of those quarters of land THIS YEAR!!  I was really surprised about that!  I met him in the hall this morning and he seemed so happy to see me, and asked when his story will be in the paper.  I told him this week, and he was so pleased.

I must be about some birthday party preparations, Saturday will be here before I know what happened!

I'm back in from a birthday celebration. We had lots of fun. Isn't it great to know that a table full of people can have a hearty laugh without having any alcohol around!!

And, there was enough cake (home baked by one of those at the table) that they were able to share a piece with all servers in the restaurant. So, not only did our birthday lady have a great time, but the joy was spread to all who serve there including the manager. :)

Y'all have a wonderful evening with our Lord.

Ruth Ann
...his compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

JudyB

Janet the birds I have are Zebra Finches.  I have one baby that has been flying and eating and now more.  I love to listen to them singing.  The baby isn't afraid of me at all! mind you I don't handle them at all.

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  Yesterday was a beautiful day here in the low 80s and more on tap for today.  I was able to do both of my normal Monday activities although could have passed on the evening one as was tired but went through with it anyway and glad I did.  Today I have only coffee this morning and an activity to attend later this morning.  Stacey now has her new apartment and called us from there yesterday after she signed the papers, paid the rent and got the key.  She continues to be very excited.  We are happy for her.  Now she will get a mover lined up and get moved as soon as she can.  It will be a relief when I know she has completed the move but am leaving that up to her to arrange and carry out.  If I am able I will plan to go and be in her old apartment as they move things out so that it won't be left alone while the movers are going up and down the elevator.

Jeanne, I couldn't go back and visit the home I was raised in again as it was torn down and a new home constructed after my folk sold it.  Glad you had such a nice weekend and a wonderful visit. Family gets more important the older we become.

Judy, you sound like a proud parent with the new birds close by.  :)  It must be fun to watch them grow.

Janet, it sounds like you are bringing real joy to the residents of the home whose stories you are preparing and sharing in the newspaper.  It sounds like Carl will leave some very well off relatives when he passes although the government will probably force the sale of much of the land for inheritance (death) taxes.  I think you are well on your way to a new career field as a writer and newspaper columnist.

Ruth Ann, I have never understand why people think they can't have a great time without drinking.  I always dreaded having to attend parties where alcohol was served and almost always just enjoyed a Coca Cola and didn't feel pressured to drink.  I am not judging others but for me it just isn't something I feel the need to do.

Hi to anyone else who stops by to post or just read here today.

JudyB

Larry I agree with you on the alcohol issue.  It is sad to see so many addicted to a drink when there is so much else they can devote their llives to.  I have 2 alcoholics in my family and strive to not enable or rescue them.  It is so hard when the accusation comes "If you love me you would.......".  Tough love is hard.

I have spent most of my time scanning pictures so I have a permanent record of past history.  Most of our slides have been destroyed by time and moisture, sad fact of the time.

Time for another hymn!

JudyB

Here, O my Lord, I see thee face to face
(Click to hear music)

Text: Horatius Bonar, 1808-1889
Music: Edward Dearle

Bonar wrote this hymn at his brother's request.
Its first public appearance was in October 1855 in Horatius Bonar's church.
Later that same year, St. Andrew's Free Church in
Greenock, Scotland, issued it in pamphlet form.

Here, O my Lord, I see thee face to face;
here would I touch and handle things unseen;
here grasp with firmer hand eternal grace,
and all my weariness upon thee lean.

This is the hour of banquet and of song;
this is the heavenly table spread for me;
here let me feast, and feasting, still prolong
the hallowed hour of fellowship with thee.

Here would I feed upon the bread of God,
here drink with thee the royal wine of heaven;
here would I lay aside each earthly load,
here taste afresh the calm of sin forgiven.

Too soon we rise; the symbols disappear;
the feast, though not the love, is past and gone.
The bread and wine remove; but thou art here,
nearer than ever, still my shield and sun.

Feast after feast thus comes and passes by;
yet, passing, points to the glad feast above,
giving sweet foretaste of the festal joy,
the Lamb's great bridal feast of bliss and love.

I do believe I missed posting yesterday and I don't know why I didn't!!

I do know that I am sure missing my A/C in my car.  Driving Sunday was sure hot!

Kitty and I went to the Indiana State Fair grounds yesterday to pick up her and two other people's entries.  I didn't enter anything this year.  And then we went to Don Pablos for lunch.  I needed some things at a Walmart so got them.  Then we treated ourselves to some Dip-n-Dots ice cream.  Haven't had that for years and it was really good...but expensive!

Today I went to the pool and then for breakfast.  When I got home I decided to go to the woods and see the mess back there.  Kaye Don said a big tree fell on the fire pit since FROGGS, the 11th and this past Saturday, the 18th!  Glad it didn't fall the 11th!  Some of us wouldn't be here!  I posted a video on Facebook...you have to look at it sideways...I haven't figured out how to turn a video on Droid Razr or Facebook 90 degrees!

Euchre is this afternoon!

Then tomorrow I take Hawaii to get her brakes fixed and the A/C fixed.  I am beginning to then Hawaii should be yellow instead of Crystal Red!!

I am just back from driving to Montezuma (50 miles) to take a friend and meet two other friends and have lunch.  Dee and I bought a portrait another gal in our class did of Tammie, and we wanted to give it to her.  Tammie's friend B.J. has been battling a brain tumor, but is so much better now.  When we saw her in June, she was in a wheelchair, now is up walking.  She has a cane but isn't dependent on it.  TMI....anyway, BJ's personality has undergone a radical change because of her illness--you would barely know she's the same person.  That has been really hard for Tammie, and even more so for BJ's husband of 52 years.

I had another "J" night and feel the need for a nap.  No reason not to take one, so I believe I will do just that!
My book Rising Above available at JanetDamon.com

Carol

Don is taking a nap because he has not had a nap in six days and his insomnia was causing him to just drag.  We had Almond Croissants and a Cappuccino at the French Bakery.  The couple from France have to be the happiest people we see in business and they work so hard.  They have finally hired helpers.

I baked yams & mixed them with vanilla and no sugar for our neighbor who is on chemo and cannot have sugar.  There is a vinaigrette I am trying to figure out for the salad - he is really weak but has a good appetite and the chemo is going to be lessened in strength.  They are friends who invited us to their church and we are so happy with this church.

JudyB:  Isn't it late in the season for birds to hatch?  I always think they are born in springtime.  How are you doing?

Marilyn

I went to see the Physical Therapist who specializes in Vestibular Therapy. First he tested me by manipulating my head and had me keep my eyes opens so he could watch them as I got dizzy. Yikes that was not fun at all I was so glad when he told me I could close my eyes. Anyway I am in a cervical collar and was given a set of instructions to follow. i can take the collar off tonight no sleeping in the collar, I go back on Friday so he can test me again to see if I am still dizzy, if so he will do another manipulation of my head. He told me that he usually never has to see the patient the third time  most of the time the Vertigo is gone before the second visit. He said Medicare will pay when I have any of these episodes so to call and come to see him don't try to do any of the exercises at home.

Again, it's so good to come to our conversation room. Soon, it will be time to put away the porch swing and get the fireplace cleaned so we can have big fires, good home baked cookies (no calories, OF COURSE), and plenty of mugs of steaming hot coffee, hot chocolate, or tea. At last count here in this apartment, I have 15 different varieties of tea, so I wouldn't mind bringing an assortment to our conversation room. The last box purchased was black tea with pomegranate. Yum!

Today has been one of those "yo-yo" days - drive to meet a contractor at 8:30 am - back to apartment - drive a lady with an unreliable car to the post office, then she wanted me to go to lunch with her - back to apartment - drive another lady to her doctor's appointment across town, back to her apartment building, go to the bank, then to Dollar General store - then back to the apartment again.

So, I may dream of yo-yo-ing all night long!  ;)

May God richly bless you as He sees you need His blessings - I'm praying for all our requests, and for folk who are dealing with serious health issues.

By the way, I saw this and wanted to share with y'all:

Carol Zebra finches are from the warmer climates and being domesticated they are in the warmth of the house year round, thus eggs, hatchlings all year.  It is exciting to see and hear.  We had a family over for dinner Saturday night, the two older children were facinated by the fact that one of the parents never left the nest.  Often both are in it , which is surprising considering the nest is so small!

Good night all

Carol

Apparently, last night was a "J" night --- it did not cool enough.  When I finally did go back to bed for sleeping at 4 AM, I had a sneezing fit and had to just come to the couch.  It is supposed to rain somewhere in this dry state today and we all hope it will be here.

JudyB:  Oh, I was so concerned about the poor little birds being just born and it is almost September.  My neighbors are birders so they would have known if I asked about the Zebra Finches.  We have wild Finch in our trees and shrubs.

I have an Amazon gift card from daughter - she had to work in Georgetown, Virginia this week and couldn't get here.  Now to decide - that is a big question for me.

Janet

Wowee!!  I just looked at my calendar, and today doesn't have a mark on it!  That means I either forgot something, or I actually have some time to do something 'unscheduled.'  I believe I will go out in the garage and get that space ready for Beth's birthday party, coming up on Saturday.  I need to do some cleaning and rearranging in there.  Also need to be sure everything is on hand for the meal we will prepare and serve.

Darrel is watching a program on TV that's full of lies---says we all came from black people.  I told him the black gene is predominate, and if we all started out black, we would all still be black.  Color doesn't matter, but TRUTH does.  Like Pres. Reagan said, "It's not that some people aren't educated, it's just that they know so much that isn't so!"  :D

Hope you get to rest today, Ruth Ann--and little Josie, too!

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  Another lovely morning here in Georgia with low humidity and not too hot.  Nothing significant from yesterday and today should also be  quiet one with only Pat's physical therapy to go to at 11:30 this morning.  Stacey has started moving a few things into her new apartment and did a load of her laundry there yesterday.  Where she has been living it was quite costly to do the laundy.  At her new place she gets 30 wash or drys a month in the machines they have for the apartments.  She will be doing the complete move on Saturday afternoon and can't wait to be out of her old place.

Judy, when I scanned the few slides I had from Alaska they had also faded as have many of our pictures of the kids when they were small.  Regarding the alcohol issue one of the things I have learned is that to enable isn't really an act of love, although we feel it is, it keeps the individual from having to face the consequences of their own actions.  There is nothing simple, however, about this baffling and deadly disease of substance abuse.

Etta Sue, I have never tried the Dip-n-Dots ice cream. Hope you get your car fixed soon so you can be cool when driving as still a bit of summer and early fall to go.

Janet, sure hope you had a better night last night.  It was nice you could share your lunch and give the portrait to your friend.

Carol, sounds like Don needs some extra rest.  That feeling of having to consciously well your body to move to do something is not a pleasant one.  The French Bakery sounds delightful.  I am sure the owner's joyful attitude has a positive impact on their business.

Marilyn, glad to read your news of seeing the specialist and his assurance of success in treating your dizziness.  Hope he is right about the quickness of the treatment.

Janet, I can't image you having a day with nothing on your calendar.  You won't know what to do with yourself.    Hope you have a restful day doing just things that are enjoyable for you. Whoops, see I spoke too soon as you found something to do.

Ruth Ann, you must be quite the tea lover.  We used to have iced tea a lot, especially in the summer, but seldom do anymore.  Have you thought of putting a taxi sign on your car?  :)  You have really been keeping your little car busy to say nothing of yourself.

Jeanne Lee

Larry, what a great idea for Ruth Ann to put a Taxi sign on her car!   ;D

Our strange weather this year seems to be having an effect on the fall colors.  By now the sumac is usually showing bright red blossoms and we would be seeing bits of color in the various trees, increasing a little each day.  But so far it's not happening.  Maybe everything will change in a huge burst all at one time.  :)

Hi there to you all!

This seem to be the place to be if I want to get to know you. And I do!
You can read my introduction in the Newcomers introductions.

I am glad that I had my profile activated, but it seems to be not fully activated.
I can not change my profile or choose a profile image and I am unable to create a gallery album.
Is there anybody out there who can fix this for me?

Jeanne don't wish winter on us yet!  We have the maple trees changing colour, signaling summer's end.So much we wanted to get accomplished that didn't get done.  We still have wood to get in, that in itself is a problem.  I already have the heat on in the evening and sometimes late afternoon.

Enough of my grumbling......God is good All the time!

Time for a hymn!

Higher Ground
(Click to hear music)

Let us go up to the mountain of the Lord.
Micah 4:2

Words: Johnson Oatman, Jr., 1898.
Music: Charles H. Gabriel, 1892

I'm pressing on the upward way,
New heights I'm gaining every day;
Still praying as I'm onward bound,
"Lord, plant my feet on higher ground."

Refrain
Lord, lift me up and let me stand,
By faith, on Heaven's table land,
A higher plane than I have found;
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.

My heart has no desire to stay
Where doubts arise and fears dismay;
Though some may dwell where those abound,
My prayer, my aim, is higher ground.

Refrain

I want to live above the world,
Though Satan's darts at me are hurled;
For faith has caught the joyful sound,
The song of saints on higher ground.

Refrain

I want to scale the utmost height
And catch a gleam of glory bright;
But still I'll pray till heav'n I've found,
"Lord, plant my feet on higher ground."

Refrain

Hi Menno!

It's lovely to have you here.  Looking forward to getting to know you over time.

I do believe that the software we use has it that you make 5 posts and then you can make changes to your signature, etc. This is to stop spammers, etc.

You should be able to add a photo though I'm sure.

Looking forward to getting more acquainted with Menno!

Marilyn ~ Hope you get good results from your Vertigo treatments.  I wouldn't like at dizzy feeling at all!

Euchre was fun yesterday...didn't win, just lots of fun.  The food was a Taco Bar...yum!

Today I take Hawaii to the car dealership to be fixed.  I am to get a loaner car.  And since Charlene left her loaf cake pan at FROGGS, I plan to take it to her since that will be on my way back.

Then I don't have anything planned to do until our church Fish Fry Saturday evening!  Maybe I can get some crocheting in.  It seems I started this last Chemo Wrap a long time ago!

Since I brought my GPS in the house, I am going to see if I still have any updates for the maps.

Bright and sunny out there today.  I have seen my Burning Bushes are turning pink.  Usually after my birthday, we have to start wearing jackets or sweaters.  I think Fall is going to be early this year.  We had a mild winter, a dry spring and a very hot summer!  Maybe we will have a long mild fall!

Hi, Menno, yes, do please keep coming back. It would be such a pleasure to get to know you.

Well, little Josie rested her wheels this morning. ;) And a certain lady I know also rested her eyes, also.

Now the two of us will travel to a small town near me to be with friends. I think there will be a bit of computer work, too, but that's also fun for me.

Y'all have a wonderful evening with our Lord.

Hi Pat!  How is the healing?

Hello Menno!  Welcome to a friendly site.

Pat

Hi Carol...

Starting to try to type with two hands and it's sore but possible for a short time.  Week 6 and physio is tomorrow.  I'm doing the exercises faithfully as I want to be able to drive.  I still can't drive my standard gear shift vehicle!!!

Thanks for asking.  Last week was a very painful week.

Looking forward to more "sunny" days in the future.

Judy, I'm not wishing winter on us, believe me!   :o  I even find myself complaining that I'm cold.  Never satisfied - first I complained it was too hot & muggy and now about being chilled.  Forgive me, Lord, help me remember that I am blessed with every day you give me.

Menno, we're glad to see you've found our "Thoughts" area.  You're so right, this is the place to get to know us and for us to get to know you.    As Pat explained, you need to post 5 messages before you can modify your profile.  But then, the sky's the limit!   :D

If you need any help with the profile, or posting pictures, or anything else on the site, please don't hesitate to holler.  Someone is sure to have an answer.  :thumbsup:

Welcome Menno to the group here in thought. Yep this is where you get to know everyone.

Thank you Etta Sue and Larry mentioning the treatment I am receiving for my vertigo.  I sure hope this will do the trick in getting rid of that dizziness. 4 months of this feeling is way too much. I only wore my cervical collar to the gym and for my first walk of the day. I probably should wear it more. It was sure uncomfortable trying to sleep only on my back and right side, When I got back into bed this morning i laid down on my left side before I remembered I wasn't supposed to.  then I turned over to my right side and the dizziness ht me.  Yikes. I pray that after Friday at the PT it will be gone until the next time or rather I should say FOREVER.  I don't want a next time.

Thank you Jeanne I am OK as long as I am upright it is only when I first lay down that it hits me. It's a positional type of Vertigo.

Hi everyone.  It looks like it is going to be another nice day here in Georgia.  I did have a quiet day yesterday, just taking Pat for her physical therapy session probably for the last time as she is going to start driving again today to go to the beauty parlor and will probably drive herself to her PT tomorrow morning.  Today should also be a quiet day.

Jeanne, unlike other areas of the country with the droughts our yards look like spring yards as things are still very green.  This is a bit unusual for us as usually by this time yards are starting to show brown.

Menno, welcome to CP and so nice to see you posting here.  I am looking forward to knowing you as you join in our conversations here.  I see that Pat has provided information to you as to why you haven't been able to create a gallery or make other changes to your profile.  I didn't know about the 5 posting condition and appreciate your question as now I know.

Etta Sue, while it is fun to win at games I never considered the winning to be what it was all about.  To me it was the socialization that was important and the enjoyment one gets out of playing the games.  While I liked to win I wasn't bothered if I did not, which was often the case.  :)

Etta Sue, we really haven't had any days here in Georgia that seemed like early fall days.  However it shouldn't be long before that happens.  Enjoy your couple of days of quiet.

Ruth Ann, are you helping someone else with a bit of computer work or is this something you are doing on your own?  Glad you were able to see a little rest.

Pat, I think shoulders must be worse than knees or hips to rehab.  My Pat has done so well with her replaced knee but attributes some of it to starting some of the exercises in advance of the surgery.  Sorry to read that you are still experiencing so much pain.  After the last gear shift car I had I decided I wanted no more of them although they were fun to drive and change gears.

Marilyn, I share you wish that your vertigo will be gone forever.  I am having brief moments of vertigo when I stand up particularly if I have moved too quickly but nothing serious or long lasting.  I know it isn't a pleasant experience.  At least if you only have it when you lay down you do not have to worry about falling from losing your balance or it hitting you when you are up and about doing something.

Janet

Yikes!  There are dead bodies all over my living room!  We have been having an invasion of tiny ants in the house.  They show up in the most bizarre places--in our closets one day, bathroom another day, and today in the living room!  We haven't been able to trace their "trails" to find where they are coming in, but they are so annoying!  And they can sting!  I even had a sting on my ear!  Darrel sprayed them, now I have to clean them up, for today, at least.   :P

Good to have you with us, Menno!  We are a pretty friendly bunch in here, and as you can already tell, we talk about many things, whatever is happening in our lives that particular day.

I have been for my walk, and done my morning chores, now must get to the home and check on Beth.  She was really sick yesterday, looked really awful.  It seemed to be some kind of allergy, causing drainage from eyes, nose and mouth and lots of gagging and coughing.  She looked like a little baby with the whooping cough!  Scary!  They were keeping her in the dining room, so the nurse could see her from her desk and keep an eye on her.

I read all the posts, but really am in a hurry to go see about Beth, so I'll be back later........

Since I took TomTom (GPS) out of the car before taking it to be fixed, I decided to update the maps which I had prepaid.  It always takes a long time.  (2-3 hours)  I had to leave the lid on the laptop open when I left for the updates to be finished.

I was told that the brakes could be fixed in a couple of hours but they didn't know about the A/C until they checked it out.  If they have to order a part...who knows when it will be done?  But I am now driving a white Impala with 'Stanley Chevrolet' signs on both front doors...advertising.  All it will cost me is topping off the tank before returning the car.

And so I was at Charlene's by a little after 4pm.  She had about 6 little ones yesterday (pre-school and younger) and they were all in the big back yard...bigger kids were playing in the sand pile...JJ is only 4 months so, of course, I had to hold him!  We sat in the swing.  Then the parents started coming after their kids.

Tony came home and Charlene's parents came so she could cut her Dad's hair.  They left and we decided to go to a Mexican restaurant for dinner.  Yum!  Thin and crispy chips like Chili's have!

I was home before dark...didn't want to drive a different car after dark.

My maps on the GPS were done.  Then it was TV, crocheting, reading and bed!

Today is a nothing day but I am hoping to sit outside under my 'brella and read!  There isn't a cloud in the sky.  Our grass has turned back to grass green instead of fall brown!  I mowed Sunday and it could be mowed again today but I am not doing it!  It has been getting down into the 60's at night and into the 80's during the day.  June and July was our August...now we are having June and July temps!  I like it!

Hi Janet!  It was so nice speaking to you on the telephone yesterday.  We'll have to do that again real soon.

I guess I missed something during the past few weeks, Etta Sue.  What happened to the brakes on your nice car?

I've started knitting for my first great grandchild expected in January.  Good therapy for me.  At least the left hand doesn't do much when knitting!  Yep, guess I'm getting "old"!  I can't imagine being a great grandma!!!  My first grandchild, Kathleen, is expecting her first baby.

I hope you're feeling a lot stronger, Larry.  Yes, this shoulder surgery is something that's difficult to cope with.  Amazing how you use the shoulder in every day movements that are so difficult.  She's started me on a 1 lb. weight now for this week.  We'll see how this goes.

Janet, I'm so sorry to hear that Beth is having more troubles.   :(  Good of the staff to keep her where they can watch her more closely.

Larry, how great that Pat will be able to drive.  It was over two months after my appendectomy before I was given the go ahead.  Fortunately, my daughter was staying around and could chauffeur me for what I needed.

My lawn has been mowed and my house power washed, now all that's left is a few spots where the weed whacker needs to be put to use.  I am blessed with great neighbors!

Pat, you snuck in while I was typing.  I already have two great grandchildren.  Well, they're actually step-greats, but I count them as mine!   ;)

Hi Folks I had a post ready to "post" and clicked the wrong button and poof it is gone.  now to recap what I had said.

1.  I didn't sleep well last night, I was troubled over what had been said by a family member.  Praying and troubling, I finally decided that it wasn't my problem.  I gave it to God and promptly went to sleep.  Today I got a phone call that the problem was solved.  Things were being done 'right'.  Why is is we are surprised when God answers prayer, especially without m
"my help"  LOL!!!

2. Just had a call from Melaura all excited that she has been accepted into college!  Another troubled area that God answered!  Again I am surprised!

For a mom to keep her mouth shut when she has the experience and knowledge to keep her kids out of trouble.....It is a difficult thing.  Even more difficult for a dad.  I had a sore tongue last night......however it was worth it!

Janet I am sorry you aren't getting enough sleep and let Beth know I am praying.
God is good!

Hold the Fort
(Click to hear music)

That which you have hold fast till I come.
Revelation 2:25

Words & Music: Philip P. Bliss. Bliss wrote this song after hearing Daniel Whittle relate the following incident that occurred during the American Civil War:

Just before [William Tecumseh] Sherman began his famous march to the sea in 1864, and while his army lay camped in the neighborhood of Atlanta [Georgia] on the 5th of October, the army of Hood, in a carefully prepared movement, passed the right flank of Sherman's army, gained his rear, and commenced the destruction of the railroad leading north, burning blockhouses and capturing the small garrisons along the line. Sherman's army was put in rapid motion pursuing Hood, to save the supplies and larger posts, the principal one of which was located at Altoona Pass. General Corse, of Illinois, was stationed there with about fifteen hundred men, Colonel Tourtelotte being second in command. A million and a half rations were stored here and it was highly important that the earthworks commanding the pass and protecting the supplies be held. Six thousand men under command of General French were detailed by Hood to take the position. The works were completely surrounded and summoned to surrender. Corse refused and a sharp fight commenced. The defenders were slowly driven into a small fort on the crest of the hill. Many had fallen, and the result seemed to render a prolongation of the fight hopeless. At this moment an officer caught sight of a white signal flag far away across the valley, twenty miles distant, upon the top of Kenesaw Mountain. The signal was answered, and soon the message was waved across from mountain to mountain:

"Hold the fort; I am coming. W. T. Sherman."

Cheers went up; every man was nerved to a full appreciation of the position; and under a murderous fire, which killed or wounded more than half the men in the fort—Corse himself being shot three times through the head, and Tourtelotte taking command, though himself badly wounded—they held the fort for three hours until the advance guard of Sherman's army came up. French was obliged to retreat.

Ho, my comrades! see the signal waving in the sky!
Reinforcements now appearing, victory is nigh.

Refrain

"Hold the fort, for I am coming," Jesus signals still;
Wave the answer back to Heaven, "By Thy grace we will."

See the mighty host advancing, Satan leading on;
Mighty ones around us falling, courage almost gone!

Refrain

See the glorious banner waving! Hear the trumpet blow!
In our Leader's Name we triumph over ev'ry foe.

Refrain

Fierce and long the battle rages, but our help is near;
Onward comes our great Commander, cheer, my comrades, cheer!

Refrain

One particular situation with which I deal ended up in me asking God to "physically" hold His hands under mine, and to be prepared, for I imagined one participant in the situation being held in one of my hands, and the second participant in the other hand.

I literally turned my hands palm down and dropped those individuals into God's hands. What a relief! Concerns continued, but not the pain and bitterness as before.

At our devotion Tuesday morning, the speaker said that the root work for "bitter" is "poison". I certainly don't want either my physical body, mind, or spirit poisoned by bitterness.

My prayer tonight is: "Forgive us our trespasses AS we forgive those who trespass against us."

Amen, Father.

Janet

I agree wholeheartedly with Ruth Ann's prayer!

Hi, Carol!

I have been out and walked my 3 1/2 miles, eaten my breakfast, now am catching up in here (not much to read since last here).  Around 9, I will go over to Pat's to get my hair done, then to the home to try to get another interview done.  Today has plenty to do, as this is the day for John to arrive; also youngest daughter Kerri is driving down from Salina, and had to rent a car as hers has developed problems and she doesn't want to get stranded on the road alone.

John arrives in Garden at 10 PM, so we will go a couple hours or so early so we will have time to pick up a few items for Beth's party at Walmart before going to the airport.  Kerri planned to leave about 8:30 this morning, so she should arrive around 2 or 3.  That will give me some time with her---I hope!

I wish you all a blessed day!

Hi everyone,  Just back from coffee at the senior center.  This week they have installed a wi fi connection for the senior center, which will be much appreciated.  Yesterday Pat drove for the first time since her knee surgery.  She just now told me she will drive herself to her therapy session this morning.  I will be spending the day resting as am tired today and tomorrow I will need to go downtown to help Stacey with her move.  Fortunately I have nothing I need to do today.

Since I am laying down and resting this morning and using my iPad I will not make a reply unless asked something specific as it is very slow to compose a message with the screen keyboard. Having read all the postings it was difficult not to comment on each one but will try to do better tomorrow.

I got a call yesterday from 'Stanley' saying that the brakes were done but I needed a new condenser for the A/C.  Fortunately they found one in the vicinity and if it was delivered in time, my car would be ready for pick up.  If I didn't get a call by 5pm, I would get a call this morning to pick it up.

I was reading and got sleepy.  I put the book down and got the call that Hawaii was ready.  It was after 4:30 and they close at 5:30pm.  So I hurried, changed clothes, and drove the 15+ miles to Stanley.  Got there in 20 minutes driving time.

Pat, I noticed a few times that after my car sat for awhile, the brakes felt like they weren't going to stop me.  Once after leaving the car out for a free wash job from God, I thought I was going through the garage wall!!  So they had other complaints on Chevrolet Cruzes with the same problem and replaced the 'brake booster vacuum pipe assembly'....whatever that is.

And the A/C went out coming home from Michigan and they found the condenser was ruptured so they replaced it....ALL UNDER WARRANTY!!  YAY!

Today is a do nothing day.  I am doing some more laundry but that will be it.  Maybe I will finish my series of books today.  Then what will I do?

I like Ruth Ann's prayer, too.  Need to pray for that too.  Seems the more I do for someone, the less it is appreciated and I am attacked with words.  I know that someone wouldn't do that normally so it isn't the someone that is saying it...it is the disease that is talking.  It still hurts.

How often do we think oabout a holy God.  We talk about His love , mercy , grace, lovingkindness and many other attributes, but never talk about his holiness.  As we sing this song let us think about this.  He IS holy and just.  lets walk through our day remembering His holiness and how does that compare to what we do during the day.  Does that change any behaviour, or decisions?

Holy, Holy, Holy
(Click to hear music)

Words by Reginald Heber (1783-1826)
Music by John B. Dykes (1823-1876)

Holy, Holy, Holy!  Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning  Our song will rise to thee.
Holy, Holy, Holy!  Merciful and mighty.
God in three Persons,  Blessed Trinity.

Holy, Holy, Holy!  All the saints adore thee.
Casting down their golden crowns  Around the glassy sea.
Cherubim and seraphim   Falling down before thee.
Which wert and art,  And evermore shalt be.

Holy, Holy, Holy!  Though the darkness hide thee.
Through the eye of sinful man  Thy glory may not see.
Only thou art Holy.  There is none beside thee.
Perfect in power,  In love, and purity.

Holy, Holy, Holy!  Lord God Almighty!
All thy works shall praise thy name  In earth and sky and sea.
Holy, Holy, Holy! Merciful and mighty!
God in three persons.  Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!  Blessed Trinity.

Well, now I've had the in-the-car training from a local driving school.  It's training which they claim will help me when I've got the dept. of Motor vehicles examiner with me.  So now I've just got to let the senior ombudsman know that I've done this, then, hopefully he'll set up another driving test for me.

Betty

Wow - I haven't been on here for a few days as we've been doing some travelling. It took awhile to catch up with all of the news.

Pat: I've been praying for you and your physio rehab. I've gone through some physio myself, and know that it can be painful, and a lot of work. We have so much to be thankful for when our bodies are working.

Marilyn: I've been praying for you too - vertigo is not any fun at all. I hope things settle very soon for you.

Bonnie: I think it was last week when I mentioned about going to the Celebration of Life for my SIL. You're right, it can be very nice and uplifting when we know that the person has gone home to be with our Lord. However, this one was more difficult as we don't believe she made that choice. We are praying that her husband will make a decision for Christ.

Our neighbour had his outboard motor and gas tank stolen this past week while they were in their house, and while we were there too. The police are concerned that the thieves were that bold. We have reminded ourselves that God is in control and that these are only material possessions.

Continuing to read the comments and pray for people.
Betty

Enjoying God's handiwork!

Hi everyone.  Today is Stacey's moving day and I know she is very excited to have it finally here.  It will be mid-afternoon before the movers arrive.  I will go down after noon to be with her and to take care of moving her computer and anything else breakable.  I had pretty much of a wasted day yesterday and didn't feel up to par and spent almost all day laying down.  Sure hope I am not so tired today.  Pat drove herself to rehab yesterday and got along fine.

Etta Sue, glad to see you got your car back.  Best thing is that all the work was under warranty, as it should have been.

Judy, Holy, Holy, Holy has always been one of my favorite hymns.  It has been awhile since we have sung it at church.

Al, glad you have the training for driving finished.  Did you learn anything you didn't already know?

Betty, glad to see you back home.  Sorry to read about the thief of the boat and motor.  Several years ago my neighbor had his lawnmower stolen from his front yard in the middle of the day.

Marilyn, that is indeed good news on the vertigo.  It is kind of a shock when we learn we have "ear rocks".  :)

How Great Thou Art
(Click to hear music)

O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

Chorus:
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.

Chorus

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: "My God, how great Thou art!"

Chorus

I finished my series of six books last evening.  My, it took a long time but then each book had between 600 and 900 pages!!  What to read now?  I am to get a new to me book in the mail...maybe it will come today!

This evening is Clarksville Christian Church's First Annual Fish Fry.  I am to be there by 3pm and work the front table taking the money until 6pm and then someone else takes over.  I want to eat my fish and then come home.

Since it is suppose to rain tomorrow evening, I think I need to mow the grass this evening... :-\

And tomorrow morning I am running the projector system AND a greeter at one of the doors!  Busy!

I need to go to Lapel and fill the car up, get some milk and a few other things.

Marilyn ~ Wish you had gone to this therapist sooner.  He/she did a great job in a few sessions!  Thank God, the vertigo is gone!

Larry ~ Hopefully Stacey will be settled in this evening and has a good night's rest!

Al ~ Glad you passed the driving training and now onto the driving test.  I am praying that the driving instructor softens his heart and passes you to drive!

Praise the Lord, for He is Holy.  The word is related to hallow - we hallow His Name because He IS holy.  The word just means, basically, "separate," and our God is holy because He is entirely separate from His created world and all things in it.  He is far above it all, unaffected by all the happenings of it.  When we come to Him. we cpme tp One Who is high and lifted up.  He is aware of all, and He knows all, but He is not changed by anything here.  So we should say to Him, "O high and holy God oiur Father" = blessed be You high and holy Name.  Amen and amen.

Loving greeting to each of you!

I won't address each one today, as have company and am busy.  Daughter Kerri and two dogs arrived yesterday and we picked John up at the GC airport and we arrived back home last night at midnight.

So today I am doing things in preparation for Beth's birthday party this        evening.  Just wanted to pop in and see if there was anything new I needed to know!

See you all later!

Well, something new from my area. Our Goodlettsville Little Leaguers won the Little League World Series for America. How great to see our little champions win! One of the young men made a Little League World Series record. He batted 3 home runs, and 3 runs came in with each H.R. So, he will be in the annals of history from now on. :)

Such a clean sport with players, coaches, and parents all showing great sportsmanship. We need more of this...

Now, it's time to get my trash disposed of before the 10:30 pm deadline!
