JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Hi, friends,

I'm back in after having lunch with friends and then being stuck in a "President Obama's in town and the road is closed" traffic jam. When I was working, we regularly had instances much like this when Vice President Al Gore would come to the Nashville airport to then drive to his hometown about 75 or 80 miles away. So, I just enjoyed creeping along with the traffic and finally, we knew he was past our nearest intersection - the traffic jam cleared. :)

I'm a bit sniffly today, so rested later than usual this morning. Likely I forgot to take my once a day antihistamine pill last night. If that's the case, then tonight's dose will take care of the sniffles and light coughing.

I feel like we're in a heat wave - our temp climbed up into the 40s today!

About my daughter in law, she found a motel room and stayed there till the traffic cleared enough for her to get home.

Y'all have a great rest of the day.

Hi everyone on a beautiful, sunny and warm afternoon here in Georgia.  Most of the snow is melting, except where it is shaded.  Pat and Paul left here about 11:30 this morning.  They got here last evening about 5:30 and before it got dark.  We had a lovely visit and Pat had prepared a delicious meal so we didn't need to go out to eat.  I think we will go out to eat this evening so Pat won't have to cook again today.  She had made a delicious breakfast casserole. which we enjoyed with fruit and toast.

Judy, I gave Pat a couple of hugs but hadn't seen your message until now but hope it counts.

Janet, I expect there will be a greater willingness to get the kids home and release workers earlier if there is a storm predicted.  However, beyond that there probably isn't much that can be done as it is not justified to spend millions of dollars on a lot of snow or ice removal since these storms are rare.  There is a lot of finger pointing going on, most of which I feel is pretty unfair.  The individual has some responsibility.  One of the ideas was to send the kids home and then the workers (parents) and this seems like a really bad idea.  It is really a no win situation since on one-hand there is criticism if schools and events are cancelled and then the storm misses us and then if they don't and something like this week happens we have a really terrible situation.  Hope your grandson  found the roads without ice and snow and that his interview goes well today.

Ruth Ann, your traffic situation is bad enough up there and then to have traffic stopped for a motorcade sure doesn't help anything.  We have that in the Atlanta area but have never been caught in it.  Hope the sniffles are better today.

Carol

We just changed our Yahoo email passwords because of the warning on television news.  It took quite some time no doubt the "traffic" is high.  The email apparently has been hacked -

I highlighted above as a warning to anyone with Yahoo email.  Sorry if you are not intended.

Ruth Ann:  I love the "old folks service".  We both like our chapel service instead of the auditorium crowd.  (Spoiled beyond belief)

Ran errands today and grocery shopped for Sunday as I am fixing a salad for church lunch and supper later for cousin & wife while we watch Super Bowl here.  I am going to make a cornbread salad - perhaps something like Etta Sue talked about - I sure miss her posts.

Chatted with several of the children and it has been snowing about 8 inches in our area or close and 3 feet of snow in the mountains near Rocky Mountain park.

Glad to read that Pat and Paul had a safe drive to Larry & Pat's home.   Larry, it seems best to err in favor of safety and putting the children out in unsafe driving conditions would be terrible.

Janet:  We do always have some concerns with the children, don't we?  Our youngest son had a really good phone interview & is well qualified now waits to hear if there is a real meeting - it is so hard to tell.  Best prayers for your interviewer!

Hi everyone.  We have a cloudy day today but not too cold (46 degrees) so what is left of the snow should continue to melt.  The big activity for today is going to the theater to see the play Lombardi, based on the life of Vince Lombardi.

Carol, I don't use Yahoo email.  My wife often says she is spoiled and intends to stay that way.  Nice you will have your cousin and wife too help you enjoy the Super Bowl.  Carol, I agree that we never seem to be without concerns regarding our children.  UPS still did not deliver the insulin that Stacey needs.  She is very upset and that is bad for her heart and the diabetes blood sugar is way too high.  Our DIL isn't doing well again and her weight is down to 98 pounds again even with the feeding tube.  Sure hope your son gets that car for a face to face interview.

Janet

Carol and Larry, thanks for the good words concerning grandson Mark's interview.  Sadly, it didn't go as planned at all!  After him driving for over 12 hours (he did go the day before so he would be well rested) the first thing they did was put him into the Simulator.  They didn't even really greet him properly, visit a bit, try to make him at ease, nothing like that.  He thought the 'talking' part would be first, but no!  Anyway, I'm sure he was nervous, as he felt his whole future was at stake there, and he made an error in flying by instruments.  When he climbed out, the lady was standing there and said, "I'm sorry, but you didn't pass the test.  But if you want to try again in six months, you can."  Mark was devastated.  I tried to encourage him by telling him that God has a reason for everything that happens to us, and that He has a better plan for Mark.  But after years of diligence and even going to college the second time to prepare himself in every way he knew how, it was a crushing blow.   :'(

Larry, I surely hope Stacey has her insulin by now!!  Couldn't someone come and give her an emergency supply?  My goodness!

Carol, best wishes for your grandson's interview, hope it goes very well!

Blessings to all who come to post today, and to all our members who may not, as well!

Hi, friends,

The temp here is supposed to be in the low 60s, but mixed precipitation is to begin late tomorrow evening and continue into Monday. I've heard it said of Chicago, but essentially here in Nashville, just wait around a bit and the weather's going to change. :)

I enjoyed being out quite a bit yesterday - quarterly doctor's checkup, then errands such as going to dry cleaners, the auto parts store, checking on the house, getting mail at two addresses, etc. So, I rested yesterday from using the computer.

Y'all have a wonderful rest of the day with our Lord,

We were just out walking around the downtown (very small) area after getting some more antibiotic cream for Don's - he is healing but so slowly.  There is an artist area and some crafts selling - I like but did not buy a thing.  A couple from church were there - selling her beautiful tote bags and we had a nice chat.  An author of Amish books was there and she gave me a website to download a free book so guess that will be tried out soon.  So many books, so little time.

Washing takes forever in these little stacked machines.  I am on that and now to bake something for tomorrow.

Janet:  Oh, I am so sorry for your Mark.  Everything is a learning lesson.  There seems to be little civility in these interviews anymore - speaking as one who did a lot of interviewing and learning on both sides.  Now, there is a surplus of people needing jobs.  If this is Mark's dream - never give up.  I hope he can find a way to keep up his skills.  Hugs to you.

Hi everyone on a foggy but 49 degree Atlanta.  Today we will not be going to church as will leave in a little bit to join Stacey, a friend of hers and the friends granddaughter, to have her birthday lunch at her favorite restaurant close to where she lives.  We have 11:30 reservations.  Generally reservations are not needed but because this is Super Bowl Sunday it was a good idea.  We really enjoyed the play yesterday.  It was set around Vince Lombardi and his poor suffering wife as Vince apparently was not an easy person to be around but did have a tender side.  The actor even resembled Lombardi. We have two more plays in this season.

Janet, I do hope Mark won't give up his dream and take this as just a setback.  He will make it to his goal as he has done the footwork.  Life teaches us some hard lessons at times.  Stacey does not have her insulin yet but her blood sugar has come down into the 180's.  Fortunately the insulin she now takes doesn't have to be refrigerated as it is in the pen.

Ruth Ann, I think we are just to get some rain later tonight and they haven't said anything about mixed precipitation.  You did have a busy Friday.

Carol, letting you read one of her books free is a good idea because if you like it you will probably want to buy more of her work.  I think that is the idea behind the free books that Amazon offers everyday.

Well just a quick post. Got home last night after dinner out with Judy to celebrate her putting up with me for 43 years. the manager at the Swiss chalet restaurant came to our table to say Hi as she always does and found out about our anniversary and instructed the waiter to give us a deduction of 43 percent on our bill.  Nice anniversary surprise. We go to this restaurant all the time so they know us well. we always have the same waiter as well. We wait for him to have a table free for us as the service he gives is absolutely superb. Spent all day yesterday till I got home in a snow storm , so glad to have a couple of days off. It was groundhog day to day and the little rodent predicted another 6 weeks of winter. If I were that little rodent I would stay in my burrow as I'm sure many people would like to catch him. Have a blessed day

A wonderful Sunday here as we had the installation of the little church - officers and now official members (we are now charter members).  We think 47 signed as members.   Of course , a massive potluck after the service - then we ran to the grocery store for a few snacks but I am fixing a ham for dinner tonight for sometime during the SuperBowl.  Cousin Jim & wife from Minnesota are coming.  Don threw out quail seed for we do hope the quail are spotting it today.

Janet

Carol and Larry--no, I do not think Mark will ever give up on his dream.  He (and his parents!) have far too much invested in it, and besides, Mark has never been a quitter.  I just know God has great plans for him and that He will bring all things together for Mark's good.  Jeff was going to call him again today to see how he is feeling and what his next step will be.  They told me today that when Mark arrived, they just told him to get into the simulator, and "you can't have even ONE mistake or you will fail!"  That would make me nervous!  I guess far more people fail that test the first time than pass it.

Larry, nice that you met Stacey for lunch, sure it gave her a nice time out.

I went to the store after we got home from Hugoton to pick up a couple of things, and my goodness!  I think half the Hispanics in town were at the store!  Must have been buying snacks for super bowl time.  Had I had any idea it would be that crowded, I wouldn't have gone!

I couldn't go to sleep until after 1:30 AM, so am nodding off now.  No reason I can't take a nap, so that's what I am going to try to do!
