A Shelter In the Time of Storm  (http://www.christianphotographers.com/sounds/shelter-in-the-time-of-storm.mid)
(Click to hear music)
You have been a shelter from the storm.
Isaiah 25:4

Words: Vernon J. Charlesworth, circa 1880.
Music: Ira D. Sankey, circa 1885

The Lord's our Rock, in Him we hide,
A Shelter in the time of storm;
Secure whatever ill betide,
A Shelter in the time of storm.

Refrain
Oh, Jesus is a Rock in a weary land,
A weary land, a weary land;
Oh, Jesus is a Rock in a weary land,
A Shelter in the time of storm.

A shade by day, defense by night,
A Shelter in the time of storm;
No fears alarm, no foes afright,
A Shelter in the time of storm.
Refrain
The raging storms may round us beat,
A Shelter in the time of storm
We'll never leave our safe retreat,
A Shelter in the time of storm.
Refrain
O Rock divine, O Refuge dear,
A Shelter in the time of storm;
Be Thou our Helper ever near,
A Shelter in the time of storm.
Refrain

Today's Devotional

A SHELTER FROM THE TEMPEST
from Our Daily Walk
F.B.Meyer

"And a man shall be as a hiding-place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest...as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land."-- Isa_32:2.

WE ARE reminded that this prophecy was uttered in a time of great unrest. The clouds of war were gathering dark on the horizon, and Israel was looking for help from the arm of flesh. In this emergency the voice of the prophet was heard, saying: "Look not to Egypt, but to God" (Isa_31:1).
The kingdom depends on the king: "Behold a king shall reign in righteousness, and princes rule in judgment." When all politics and commerce, social and domestic life are under the sway and guidance of Jesus Christ, the Kingdom of God will come, and the Will of God shall be done on earth, as in heaven.

The Lord Jesus is many-sided enough to meet all the varied needs of His people. Some need a covert from the tempest, others rivers of water to quench their thirst, others the shadow of a great rock in a weary land. But He is all and equal to all. When a man or woman owns the sway of Christ, eyes and ears are cleansed, there is no longer the hesitation of stammering confession, the judgment becomes rectified and the heart opened to a new generosity. First righteousness, then peace--such is heaven's eternal order.

This is a marvellous chapter! Note the words of warning to the women of Jerusalem. After all, the religious and political life of a nation is very much what the women make it, and there can never be a widespread deepening of religious life unless the women, who have such great capacity for God, turn to Him in repentance and faith.

Are our conditions similar? Surely they are! For if in the days of Solomon it was true that all things were full of labour and stress, how much more true is it in our time! The tides of human life are high and stormy, and there is no sense of security. We may surely plead that we need the quiet resting-places and sure dwellings, in which our souls may shelter! The promise is made to "'My people"--to those who have heard and obeyed the voice of the Good Shepherd. If you are one of the weakest and lowliest of these, you may draw comfort here (Isa_32:18).

PRAYER
Bring us, O Lord, through the troubled waters of life into a haven of repose. Hide us secretly in Thy pavilion from the strife of tongues and the fiery darts of the wicked one. May we be at peace with Thee, with ourselves, and with all. AMEN.

Thank you Jane for this devotional.  We can absolutely compare today's times of stress and unrest, with dark clouds of war on the horizon, to those of ancient Israel.  And it is no less important today than it was in the days of Solomon to turn to the Lord for our "shelter from the tempest".

Hi everyone from a sunny Georgia with little chance of rain.  A quiet day planned and other than attending a meeting this evening have nothing on the schedule.  Pat will have a massage again this morning.

Jane, thanks for putting together the Devotional Thoughts for this week.  We are living in very stormy conditions all over the world, including our own country and also for many of us our own families.

Marilyn, thanks for sharing the pictures.  Was this a very small gathering as the pictures don't show any large groups?

Karen, hope you have a great VBS this year.  Our church just had theirs a couple of weeks ago and it was well attended.

What a great devotional for this week, Jane!  Thank you so much for sharing that.

I'm sitting here singing the hymn!  What good words:

The Lord's our Rock, in Him we hide,
A Shelter in the time of storm;
Secure whatever ill betide,
A Shelter in the time of storm.

Refrain
Oh, Jesus is a Rock in a weary land,
A weary land, a weary land;
Oh, Jesus is a Rock in a weary land,
A Shelter in the time of storm.

Larry, what a storm we had last evening.  I went up to Janice and Phil's home after the morning church service.  It's a good 1 1/2 hours to their home and it was a lovely drive up.  I was taking an early birthday gift to Janice as she's got some nice gardens built out back and she's interested in "Square Foot Gardening" (http://squarefootgardening.org/square-foot-gardening-method) which is one of the most fantastic methods of gardening that I know.  I've been doing it since the late 1980's and '90's.  Anyway, I have somewhere the original book on how to get started with this method and now Mel (author) is in his "2nd Edition of the New and Improved Square Foot Gardening" (http://www.amazon.ca/Square-Foot-Gardening-Second-Revolutionary/dp/1591865484/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1406561832&sr=1-1&keywords=square+foot+gardening+mel+bartholomew) so I bought Janice a copy and gave it to her yesterday.

Well, after supper, it started to rain.  And it rained.  And rained and then the lightening moved in and the thunder and I wondered if I was going to get home in the dark in that rain.  I waited for about an hour and it seemed to have passed a wee bit but then as I was on the highway, it circled back.  I could hardly see where I was going and had my wipers on fast speed to keep them somewhat cleared but several times I had to pull over and stop.  So I didn't get home till about midnight!

Pat:  That sounds like one dicey drive you had last night.  Goodness and mercy were with you. <3

Here, the weather is rain every afternoon in the monsoon time.  It helps cool the temperatures  Daughter is with g-daughter in NYC while g-daughter attends a week long advertising camp (she was one of 20 to win a spot) and they will meet with corporate offices today and give a presentation the groups have worked on all weekend.  Too much hustle and bustle for me.

Our middle son is helping out a friend (not girlfriend) who is low on money and giving her and her son a place to stay for a couple of months so they can save for a rental.  He has the kindest heart; there are two dogs so I really hope this works out well.

The youth minister spoke at church yesterday and he always has a good sermon too.  We went out for coffee then way up north of the city for a sale on new lamps.  They are Ott lamps (which Larry's Pat will know) especially good for reading & sewing.  The poor lady had to sell, she is widowed, house is too expensive for her and she needs to sell and find a smaller place - praying for her (Earlene).  She and I talked about the price of groceries going up so much - it is hurting her much harder than the working person realizes.

There was a rally for Israel downtown and it went well. of course about 20 for the Hamas side to protest.

Bible study on Wed begins in September but we are trying to get a few of the gals together soon.  Our leader wants to buy a house in our area and we have been scouring the nearby streets to get her first hand information.  Would love to have her nearby.

Just a short note today to let you all know things are well here.  My sister is still here, she really wants to go home, but God told her, "not yet!"  Beth is showing improvement each day, so we are rejoicing.  But we want SO much to see her totally healed, and John, too--standing tall and strong.  God told me they will be his "Poster Kids to display his power and glory!"  Hallelujah!  We are trying to stand firm and not allow any doubts to creep in.  Pray for us and with us, please?

Getting up in the wee hours of the morning to spend time in Bible study, prayer and journaling is leaving me in need of a little nap in the afternoon!

Love you all!

I have been absent for a time.
I am still recovering from surgery but the Dr. did say today that as long as I do not do anything stupid like falling all is well. My next visit to see him is 9 months from now.

About the weather that Pat drove through we happened to make it home from Alliston just before it started and yes the rain was something else. We were glad to be home when it started.

Well, Ruth, for goodness sake, please "don't do anything stupid like falling"!   :D  I'm glad you managed to get home before the storm arrived.

This definitely does not feel like July.  We've had very few days in the upper 80's and only a couple times hit 90.  Mostly we're in upper 70's or low 80's and our nights tend to be in the 50's - a couple down to 48.  That does make sleeping great - but I hate to get out of my nice warm cocoon in the morning.   ;)

Yes, Ruth, it's so good to have you back, and please do not fall!

We had a lovely, soaking rain this morning!  Praise the Lord!  I don't know how much, because the rain gauge is still on the cabinet waiting for Darrel to put it outside somewhere!  It doesn't measure well there!  But the streets were flowing with water in town when Shirley and I went in to pray with Beth and John, and our road is boggy.  I am not complaining, it's wonderful to see all the pasture lands greened up, and to have such lovely, cool weather--in JULY!!

We will leave at 12:30 to drive John to Garden City for his plane.  Sad to see him go, he is such a joy and a blessing.  What a remarkable, amazing man John is.  And how we thank God for sending him into Beth's life.

Shirley and I drove to Hugoton yesterday to see Abby ride in the parade (for their fair) as First Princess.  Need I say she looked beautiful?  :)  And Diane had a float for her business, Yardmaster, on which she was awarded two prizes--First place in Commercial floats and overall winner!  I was happy to be there with camera in hand.  ;)

Have a God-blessed day, my friends.  I know I am!

Thunder, lightning, and flooding is expected - a full day of this heavy rain.  It doesn't look well for the burn areas.  We did all we needed this morning and now preparing to stay over with grandson tomorrow night for a game of Cribbage and I am bringing fresh corn-on-the-cob to add to our meal.

Ruth:  It sounds like a long time before you go back to the doctor - for Pete's sake, don't fall.  I know you won't after all these warnings.  That reminds me of how I would shout to the kids - don't run, don't this and that!   ;)

Janet:  This is an amazing time for Beth and I pray for her recovery.

Whoops, signing off - heavy thunder right on top of us.  Later

Marilyn Ice Ice Ice and Ice some more.  That is about the only thing that will help with the pain and I have that from 2 friends.  One had double knee replacement the other had single.  Also in a zip lock bag put 3 cups of water and a cup of rubbing alcohol.  Into the freezer.  It doesn't freeze solid and will go where needed (around the knee).  I always put mine in 2 ziplocks in case of a leak.

Hi everyone.  It is now late afternoon and again today I am late coming in to post.  We were gone all morning with Bible study and visiting at Dunkin' Donuts per our usual Wednesday schedule.  As soon as we got home I called a friend who had agreed to look at Pat's recliner that has decided not to let the foot rest go all the way down.  He identified the problem and got the foot rest down so Pat can at least sit in the chair but not elevate her feet.  I will have to contact their repair center tomorrow so we can make the decision whether to spend additional money on it as Pat wants a different chair as what she has doesn't fit her well.  We will donate the chair as it still has value as can be used without the reclining position and was the top-of-the line when we bought it eleven years ago.  Yesterday morning I picked up the young Nigerian lad, who considers us his American grandparents, and he cleaned out our storage building, which took about 4 hours.  I then took him for lunch where he had his first sub sandwich.  I gave him my spare desktop computer as it wasn't being used and the one his family has no longer worked.

Marilyn, did Larry has a total knee replacement?  Hope he is feeling better today.

Buddy, Missouri is our home state as my grew up in the Kansas City area and I grew up near Maryville, Missouri.

Judy, that is the recipe for making ice bags that Pat's PT therapist told us about when she had her knee surgery.  You can also adjust the amount of water or rubbing alcohol if you want a change in the consistency of the ice pack.  These are sure a lot cheaper than buying commercial ice bags and they work really well.

I have been up since 3:15 AM, so if this is incoherent, I'll blame it on that!   ;)  The reason for the extra early rising was that my sister's usual rising time is 3:00, an I wanted to spend time with her and with the Lord.  She felt that God told her yesterday on the way to Garden City, taking John to his plane, that He will continue to heal Beth "little by little" until she is totally healed; and that she could go home today (meaning Shirley.)  So we are trusting the word of the Lord and will never stop praying for Beth and John until we see their complete deliverance!  When we went to pray with Beth, she was bright and chipper, with a new light of hope and a sparkle in her eyes, and her speech continues to improve.  What a mighty God we serve!

I had to judge today at the fair in Hugoton, and just got home.  Needless to say, after a restless and very short night's sleep, I am really weary.  But I wanted to stop in and say hi......so....."HI!"

Hi everyone on a cloudy morning here in Georgia.  It is suppose to get to 82 degrees today with perhaps some scattered showers in the area this afternoon.  So it should be a pretty nice day.  The main activity today is on Thursday men's luncheon and today we are meeting at the Olive Garden.

Marilyn, thanks for the info on Larry's knee situation.  The next few weeks won't be pleasant for him but if he will do what is prescribed in the way of PT I would expect he will soon be feeling much better.  It sure made a difference in how Pat is getting around.

Hi Pat, hope the website changes go smoothly.  I know that is a lot of work.

Buddy, always good to see loved ones return safely from travel.

Janet, nice you have had your sister with you for several days and to share in your prayer time for Beth and John.  God can perform miracles.  Wonderful that Beth's speech is improving.  She probably had a lot of practice while John was visiting.  :)  Hope you were able to get a good night's sleep last night and can have a little more relaxing day today.

Jeanne, is there a hint of fall in the air up your way.  The last few days have been very pleasant down here.

The weather here is lovely.  The temperature is a couple of degrees below normal during the day and the nights are delightful.  We're getting nighttime temperatures around 50 - sometimes down even to 48.  Wonderful snuggle temperatures, blowing chilly in the open windows (which I refuse to close until it gets so cold the furnace turns on).  So comfy under the blankets it's hard to decide to get up...  even when I need to!   :)

This house temperature was down to 60 degrees F when we came home this afternoon.  Crazy temps and lots of thunderstorms.  It is unusually green everywhere we look and ponds/ lakes/rivers are full.  Mud and rock slides always go along with this too.  Love the green look.

We had such a nice visit with one grandson.  He sleeps in and works nights and we tried to leave quietly but a dog greeted us and the phone rang.  Anytime we take the car and start to drive is a good time to say a prayer because there are so many distracted drivers now - drive defensively all the time everyone.

off for a little procedure today and then I talked Don to stopping at Hobby Lobby with my coupon for wide fabric to back a queen sized quilt.  Reading all your posts, thinking of all of you.

We also have been enjoying lower than normal for this time of year temperatures.  And we have had several lovely rains lately, so everything is nice and green.  We are praising God for this!

Larry, my day wasn't exactly restful.  Curtis asked me to come to Hugoton and keep the three little ones so he and Toni could continue moving stuff out of their house.  The girls were really good, but the two younger ones had been spiking fevers, and the baby never got over hers today, so she felt bad, but wasn't all that fussy.  They both had high fevers about the time Toni came to get them, and she wound up taking both to Urgent Care at Liberal.  She called to tell me that the doctor said they both have Foot, Hand and  Mouth Disease!!  :o  She (or he?) said it has been rampant lately over this several states area, and is caused by a bacteria.  It affects babies and children of young ages who often put their hands into their mouths.  It causes painful blisters in their mouths and throats, so eating is painful for them.  The baby's throat was quite bad.  She was getting prescriptions filled when she called me.  They really didn't need more problems.   :(

Beth was a little better again this morning!  She is speaking out praise to God, and becoming more active in asking for herself what she desires from Him.  Hallelujah!

I did lots of laundry for Diane today and also made supper for the whole bunch of Crawfords before coming back home.  I'm heading to bed very soon!

Melody!  Good to see a post from you  today!  :)

Sounds as if the IRS is intending to target Christians next.  Sigh............  My heart aches for both Israel and for our beloved America.  How we must pray and hold fast to God in these uncertain days.

I love the devotional . God is indeed our shelter.  We are having hot and humid weather at this time.
Hope you all have a great day. :)

Hi Melody!   :sidedance:

How nice to  see you in here today!  I think you're on the east coast of Canada, right?

Our weather hasn't been very hot for the past couple of weeks.  It's been humid but rainy and my tomatoes aren't ripening!!!  :ticked: :ticked: :ticked:

Janet, it's always so good to read any newsy bits about Beth!  I'm praying for her and you!

That's just awful to read about the children having that disease.  I haven't heard about it for years and years.  Isn't it also awful to hear of Ebola in Africa?  We must pray for the two missionaries that have it.  I think that they are involved with Samaritan's Purse.

Just heard that the two missionaries will be in a hospital (Emory?) in Atlanta, GA  Oh, how we must pray for them.  The medivac plane has just started out from the USA on its first leg of its journey to get them out of Liberia and back to the USA

Well, I've been really busy today with running around getting little things for Rebecca and Andrew to take to Ireland tomorrow.  It's all so very exciting for Rebecca.  Two weeks isn't long enough but I'm sure that they will still have a wonderful time.  Apparently instead of having a direct flight, they fly to Amsterdam and are there for 2 1/2 hours and then they fly over to Dublin where my nephew will be waiting to pick them up.

Hi, friends,

I've had another really busy week. So busy in fact, that I finally had a quiet day yesterday which was really needed - I slept all night, then almost all day, then all night, and awakened this morning feeling much better.

I was concerned about doing something to help someone get to the Farmer's Market today (would have involved lots of standing and pushing her in a wheelchair), and the Lord made a way for her daughter and gdaughter to come from Alabama to help her. Oh, how thankful I am that they were here to observe the deterioration I've been concerned about!

Y'all have a good rest of the day with our Lord.

Ruth Ann

Hi everyone.  It is another one of those drab mornings but isn't hot this morning.  We ended up getting only a light shower yesterday afternoon and the forecast is the same for this afternoon and evening.  My main activity today is our church men's ROMEO luncheon at Steak and Shake.  I enjoyed the men's luncheon yesterday at Olive Garden.  The food was good but while we had a pleasant waitress the service was very slow.  Pat did talk to our DIL yesterday and she sounded pretty good.  Still not gaining weight but sort of staying at the present level.

Carol, is the drought cycle broken for your area?  If I remember correctly you all were extremely dry for quite awhile.  You are right about the distracted drivers.

Janet, so sad so those precious little ones.  Nice of you to go help out with the little ones but know that was anything but restful.

Pat, having the ebola cases here in Atlanta is a bit disturbing but sure they will do everything to isolate them and protect the population.
Ruth Ann, isn't it a blessing how things work out such as getting your friend to the market.

Yawn!.....I'd rather be  :sleepy: and will probably take a nap this afternoon.  I forgot to take my pills yesterday morning before I left, and thus woke every hour until 1 AM, then never got back to sleep.  So I am tired today.

Good to read the posts today.  Pat, how nice that your Rebecca is getting to visit Ireland!  That's on my "bucket list" along with wales and the other British Isles.

Larry, I surely hope your son's wife starts to gain a little weight.  I know that is so concerning for him.

Another lovely day here in our corner of Kansas!

Yep!  I was up late trying to fix an error I made two nights ago on Photography Cafe but I still woke up at the same time today, Janet.

Yes, it's so nice for Rebecca to be going to Northern Ireland today.  I'm so happy for her.  I had thought that I would get there at least one more time in this life but alas, I think that's not going to happen for me.  :(

Another trailer load of wood brought in, and another to come today.  It is getting easier for both of us, I guess we are getting in shape!

We take Zeke and when we are going to or from the bush he gets in "the zone" and just jogs along.. I have to take my camera and get a picture of him. it is quite a site!  Just a little cautious about taking it into the bush!  On Saturday Melaura and Tyler and a friend came to help us,  She attached Zeke's leash to her mirror and he pulled her all the way home .....he was pulling the car, good exercise for a working dog!  She had to keep breaking to slow him down!

There is nothing like the sound of our Air Force jets when they take the  path right over our  house.  Wake up everyone!  We have a lot of military in our area and I for one, love planes - any planes.  Don flew planes until his parents tragic day.  Then, he could not concentrate so he took himself out of the program.

Praise for Beth's condition improving each and every day.  This is spectacular.

Larry:  Still severe drought in SE Colorado - sad for the farmers.  Otherwise, the lakes in the mountains must be at normal levels with all this flooding.  It has been nice to be cool.

We took one son out for his birthday dinner and he ordered a loaded hamburger on a doughnut with an egg.  He loves the different tastes and we just stared at the plate - not for our tastebuds.

The prayer list is always long and the two missionaries who have Ebola are in my thoughts.

Judy B:  What kind of a dog?  What kind of car?  We had a Husky/Elkhound  who followed the children home and stayed.  He would take off so we had to use a calf chain and I watched as he used his power to break the cow chain.  So, he was mostly free after that.  Strong dog and so sweet with everyone.  He pulled kids on a long sled and on the lake they would skate behind him.  What a sight to behold.

Pat:  Ireland sounds like a good dream.  You never know!

Janet:  I don't know anything about that disease in children.  May they recover fast!

Carol he is a rottie, Zeke and such a sweet nurtured dog.  He will chew anything, wood steel, The only way to stop that is to keep him active.  Going out to the bush he is active.  He picks up huge logs and moves them often catching them when we throw them out of John's way for cutting.  We are going to get a sled and get him putting the ones he lifts on the sled.  he has unbelievable strength, however when I walk him, he stays right by my side.  I will have pictures tomorrow.

Hi everyone on another unbelievably cool morning for Georgia this time of the year.  It has been a busy morning as after coffee went to Krogers for some items we needed and some we probably didn't need.  Pat and I are working out on the screened in porch to go through the boxes we had brought in from our shed to determine what to discard, what to donate and what few item to keep.  I can only work about 30 minutes and then begin to feel ill so know it is time to sit down and rest for awhile, which is what I am doing.  We don't have a lot to sort through and it doesn't all have to be done this morning as there are still a couple of days before the housekeepers get here and they will take the donations for us and I want to take some of my computer related stuff to the Nigerian family.  One of the boys is looking for some cables so will send several and what they don't want they can trash as that is what I am going to do so that I don't have more than one plastic tube with that type of equipment and cables, etc.  That will be enough for us today.

Janet, sure hope you took your pills and were able to sleep last night.  It also sounds like the midwest is having some great weather for this time of year.

Judy, I hope both you and Pat will make it to Ireland but health often dictates where is feasible or prudent to do.  It sounds like you and John are building up your muscles from dealing with the wood.

Carol, we sometimes hear the jets or helicopters flying into our local airport, which is about 6 miles from us.  Fortunately it isn't an everyday occurrence. I would hate to ruin a donut by having an egg with it.  UGH!

Today was the first day in 5 months that I woke up PAIN FREE, Oh that feels so good to be free of that awful back pain. So the Cortisone shot did the job it was supposed to do. The muscle that was in a spasm for so many months was just over my left hip about half way to my spine. I was in so much pain every morning that I was thinking about calling the Laser back surgery place to see if they took my insurance. I feel so blessed to be pain free. I am so happy that the Lord gave the Dr.  the inspiration  in solving my pain problem.  It seem like the idea just flew into her head as we talked, she was telling me about pills or physical therapy and all of a sudden she said "I'll give you a steroid shot likeI did for the Trochanteric muscle spasm" I said yes that will work.

I am the very blessed child of the living GOD

Hi everyone.  Another overcast and bit humid day here in Georgia.  We will go to church and then eat out with the group or just Pat and I following church.  I have just sorted through two more boxes from the shed, one of which was more of Stacey's things that had been stored in the shed.  The other was a box of discarded computer and phone related items.  I still have three more boxes of computer related items to sort through but that shouldn't take too long as things are pretty well sorted out in them.  What I did in the sorting yesterday left me very exhausted even though I really didn't work very long.

Pat, it was very encouraging to see Dr. Brantly be able to walk out of the ambulance and into the hospital.  We also need to pray for those caring for him that they are not infected with this horrible disease.

Marilyn, great news on waking up pain free and hope it will solve the problem and not return.
