Morning Devotional

What Happens When You Worry

By Adrian Rogers

BIBLE MEDITATION:
"Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you." 1 Peter 5:7

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:

What happens when you worry? You bring tomorrow's difficulty into today.

God didn't give you grace for tomorrow's difficulties. He only gives you grace for today.

When you reach into tomorrow's troubles, you overload today's circuit. Worry doesn't take the sorrow out of tomorrow, it takes the strength out of today. When you meet tomorrow, you're out of breath because you're already overloaded from today. Worry, therefore, does not make you ready for the future, it really makes you unready.

Yesterday is just a canceled check. Tomorrow is a promissory note. Today has all the cash you can handle. Spend it wisely.

ACTION POINT:

Worry will eat your lunch! It'll eat your breakfast and dinner, too! Confess your worries as sin (because they are). Put your concerns at the throne of Almighty God, trusting Him to provide.

Devotions taken from the messages of Adrian Rogers.

Hi, friends,

It's me again.  Good to see you, Don. I don't know how the moderators keep up with everything. My hat's off to all of you. :)

Ooooh, Jeanne, that Adrian Rogers devotional certainly hit me between the eyes. I've had difficulty with leaving all my worries at the feet of Jesus. What better time than now to remedy this bad habit. Thanks for the devotional.

Here's the last communication from my daughter in law:

"Well, finally feeling human again, thank you Jesus!! And thanks to all of you who have prayed, called and checked on me, helped us with meals, helped us with [our daughter] and so on and so on! Everything you have done was noticed and very much appreciated. Thankful to have such wonderful friends and family. Love and blessings to each of you."

Thank you to each of you who have joined me in prayer for her.

Much love to everyone.

Ruth Ann

Ruth Ann, I'm glad the devotional was helpful for you.  I found it personally apt and that's what I usually use as criteria for posting.  As always, the Lord chooses which of the many emails I receive will be best to use.   ;)

I'm back in my ol' stomping grounds after several daze away ... 1258 miles later, I returned home at 4 p.m. this evening.  After depositing my passengers (granddaughter, boy friend, and great granddaughter) at the Sacramento International Airport at 7:17 a.m., I continued north on I-5 to Redding, CA where I had breakfast and filled the gas tank.  I continued north on I-5, stopping in Grants Pass, OR to top off the gas tank and onward to Coos Bay, arriving at 4 p.m. in my carport.  Everything seems okay, and I am relaxing in front of the TV for a while.    My granddaughter is to appear on Judge Judy with her case of being stuck with a "lemon" of a car that she can't register .... the taping will be on Thursday, and I'm not sure when it will be aired, but we are all pulling for her because she was definitely stuck with a bad deal.  She should win her case without any problem.   I'll be watching.   ;)
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

JudyB

OK I need to update everyone on the case of Thomas the boy who was submerged in water.  He is of sedating medication.  He has had an MRI and there is indication of brain damage.  How severe they won't know till he is more recovered.  They don't know if this was an epileptic episode. He was wanting the feeding tube out and was trying to pull at it, his mom told him that he needed the tube in so he would get food in to him and to not pull at it.  He knew enough to follow that direction. Same thing happened with the breathing tube.  so there is some recognition of words and knows to follow some direction.
Please continue to pray for Thomas, and his family to come to the Lord.

John is out eastern US.  I am hoping that he avoids the storm that is headed from the central prairies.  He hasn't had a trip since November that he hasn't had to contend with snow.  He is getting tired of the constant snow battle.

Heading to bed, Have a good night everyone.

JudyB

looks like I am first today.

There are so many who need prayer, it can be daunting.  Know that I am praying for you as you go through your day.  God knows the needs and that is all that is important.

The low pressure system that we have been promised by the weather man is slowly coming to our area.  We are cloud covered, and the temp is at 32F or freezing point.  This means freezing rain and all that goes with it.  The furnace is running I have to be careful not to load it too much as it could be a problem if there is a power outage.

Everyone keep safe. and God bless.

Jehovah Tsidkenu
(Click to hear music)

by Robert Murray M'Cheyne

"THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS"
(The watchword of the Reformers.)

I once was a stranger to grace and to God,
I knew not my danger, and felt not my load;
Though friends spoke in rapture of Christ on the tree,
Jehovah Tsidkenu was nothing to me.

I oft read with pleasure, to sooth or engage,
Isaiah's wild measure and John's simple page;
But e'en when they pictured the blood-sprinkled tree
Jehovah Tsidkenu seem'd nothing to me.

Like tears from the daughters of Zion that roll,
I wept when the waters went over His soul;
Yet thought not that my sins had nail'd to the tree
Jehovah Tsidkenu - 'twas nothing to me.

When free grace awoke me, by light from on high,
Then legal fears shook me, I trembled to die;
No refuge, no safety in self could I see, -
Jehovah Tsidkenu my Saviour must be.

My terrors all vanished before the sweet name;
My guilty fears banished, with boldness I came
To drink at the fountain, life-giving and free, -
Jehovah Tsidkenu is all things to me.

Jehovah Tsidkenu! my treasure and boast,
Jehovah Tsidkenu! I ne'er can be lost;
In thee I shall conquer by flood and by field,
My cable, my anchor, my breast-plate and shield!

Even treading the valley, the shadow of death,
This "watchword" shall rally my faltering breath;
For while from life's fever my God sets me free,
Jehovah Tsidkenu, my death song shall be.

Hi everyone.  It is chilly here in our part of Georgia and was damp but it is supposed to warm up into the 60s this afternoon.  Busy morning with coffee, astop at the ATM and the gas station. Pat and I then went to Bible study and then to Dunkin Donuts.  Finally on the way home stopped at Walgren's for a loaf of bread. I will rest this afternoon and evening although may finish up my taxes when I get up later this afternoon.

Jeanne, very good devotional and that is the way I try to live my life.  Worry about the future is such a waste of precious time and energy.  I bet Pat would give you a big hug for your work with the devotionals.  You are being too hard on yourself. :)

Ruth Ann, sounds like your dil has a fine support group of caring family and friends.

Jane, good to see you are back safe and sound.  Did your granddaughter have to go to New York to tape the Judge Judy Show?

Judy, that sounds like encouraging news about Thomas.  At least this should be the last winter John will have to face those long trips on bad roads.

Ruth

Jeanne Lee: I need the message that the devotional has given at the present time.

Jane: You sure had a long trip but now put your feet up and relax.

Larry: You are always an encouragement.

Judy:  Thanks for the update.

As I look out the window it is foggy and now rain instead of snow.

Blessings to all of you
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.  Proverbs 3:6

Larry, my granddaughter filed in small claims court because of a terrible car deal .... the Judge Judy show picked her claim and flew her, her boyfriend and daughter, as well as the defendant to Los Angeles ... put them up in a nice hotel for two nights and paid them a per diem ... they will tape the show tomorrow morning and then fly back to Sacramento afterwards.  They pay all expenses as well as for their appearance on the show ... pretty good deal, for all concerned.  Becky was miffed that the defendant also gets the same treatment and he's the one who stuck her with a lemon of a car that she can't even register.  She and her boyfriend and daughter are touring some of the attractions in Los Angeles today ... having a good time "for free" as she says.

Ruth, I had to go to California to take care of some business ... while there my car was used for a lot of running around .... the round trip is basically only about 1000 miles ... the rest was running around while there.   ;)
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Hi everyone.  The sun is brightly shining this morning and it sure looks good.  It is suppose to get into the 60s today, which will be enjoyable. This is a nice way to welcome in the first day of spring. I have a light schedule today with just our ROMEO's luncheon around noon at Longhorn's Steakhouse.  I did finish and file my tax returns yesterday afternoon and they both were accepted by the IRS and the State.  Now to clean up the paperwork and to dispose of unneeded papers here in my office.

Ruth, thanks for your kind words.  Glad you are now having rain and not snow.  Is your area subject to flooding in the spring from the snow melting?

Jane, I don't watch the Judge Judy show so wasn't sure where it originated.  At least that wasn't a long trip but a nice change of pace for your granddaughter.  Hope they have a great time in Los Angeles.

JudyB

We had snow most of the day yesterday, and it is still snowing. We had some rain last night , thankfully it didn't last.  Presently out my window it is about 30F.  Maple syrup isn't running, the local producers are saying it will be a short season, but fast.  If you buy Canadian Maple Syrup make sure it isn't from Quebec.  They can add brown sugar which extends the amount they produce.  That is not allowed in Ontario.

Today John went through ring of rain, freezing rain, and then snow. Watching the weather map he is now in a clear (of weather) area, however he will be heading back into snow shortly.  He got through the mountains safely.   We were talking however he is now out of cell range.

A song I sung as  child keeps ringing through my head.
This is the day, this is the day
that the Lord has made
that the Lord has made
Let us rejoice let us rejoice
and be glad in it and be glad in it
This is the day that the Lord has made
Let us rejoice and be glad in it
This is the day, this is the day
that the Lord has made.
Any one else remember  this chorus?

Have a great day folks!

Good afternoon in fact I have just looked at the clock and at 12:57 it will be the first day of spring. I must also try to remember to look at the wind direction wind from the north we will have a cool spring and out of the south it will be warm.

Spring can and does bring flooding although we are usually OK. here

Yesterday a message came through that a cousin is getting rid of the home phone and going cells for the family he is saying that they will not be paying an additional 90.00  dollars. Personally I feel it is a family disconnection, each to their own. We do have cell phones but personal use only and we do not freely give out the number. We have given it to family only but they had best call the land line first as the cell is not always answered.  Now it is to remove their home phone number from our saved lists.  Also I will be taking the time to remove some other names and #'s as well,
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.  Proverbs 3:6

Marilyn

Hello everyone, I guess I've not been here fora few days. I worked Monday and Tuesday this week. Yesterday I went to the gym then on to the mall to have my nails done. In the afternoon we took my car over to Tom's Bulldog auto to see about having the brakes done. It is time for new ones. They were making a terrible grinding noise and I don't think it was safe to drive it like that.

today has been a busy day too. Keith took me over to the Medical Clinic lab for a blood draw this morning. after I got back home I did two loads of laundry, did some vacuuming, swept and mopped the kitchen and two of the bathrooms. I still have to remake the bed after I get the snoozing cats off. I am going to set aside an hour for crocheting on the baby afghan and another hour for reading. I have read 4 books so far this year. I promised myself at the beginning of the year that I was going to read more books this year.

On Sunday the Music minister announced he was leaving the church to start  home church which is where his heart is T.here were also two other couples, earlier in the week at the board meeting. So until god sends us someone to be the new music minister we well be using our voices without the music, although Pastor Don does play the piano.

My goodness, Marilyn, you have been busy!  It takes me most of the week to do what you did in on day!

When the brakes begin to grind, you're right, it's time to get them repaired or replaced.

I hope you get a music minister soon, although I'm sure you'll all do OK with piano accompaniment.

Well, my granddaughter won her case on Judge Judy today.  She said it took all of 3 minutes.  Judge Judy yelled at the defendant and his witness for selling Becky a car that he had no legal right to sell.  Neither the defendant nor his witness (from whom he got the car) had their names on the title ... there is no way Becky could register the car in her name ... besides that fact, it broke down on the highway 3 days after she got it.  She had it towed to her mom's driveway (which upset the manager of the mobile home park) and he not only has to give back her money, but pay for the towing!  He will get the car back, but he's going to have to tow it, because it won't run! After Judge Judy had yelled at the guys, she simply said "Give her money back!"

Larry, I think the show is in New York most of the time, but Judge Judy has been in Los Angeles for a while now.  Becky filed in County Court and the show's field agents chose her case to be heard by Judge Judy.  Becky and her boyfriend and 2 year old daughter really had a great time in southern California.  The had yesterday free to see the sights and go to the beach, etc.  They fly back to Sacramento this evening, and Dot will pick them up at the airport.

Hi, friends,

What joy it was to see so many friends posting when I came today. :)

Jane, your granddaughter surely is thankful that the judge rule din her favor.  We've missed you while you were away. Welcome home.

Marilyn, I'm facing getting a brake job done soon. But these are the original brakes, and the car is 7 years old now. It's hard to believe how time flies - that PT Cruiser was relatively new when I bought it.

Ruth, now that I'm the eldest person in the family, I, too, have discontinued my "land line." But not before letting everyone know my cell number. Expenses can really mount up when a person is a pensioner.

Yes, "This is the Day That the Lord Has Made" was quite a popular chorus. And, of course, biblical in its origins. I played piano for years, so learned many of the popular choruses for the children in the churches where I served.

Larry, it's such a relief when the taxes are settled for the year. I took care of that near the end of last month. It's like a weight lifts off my shoulders when it's done.

Judy, since you and I share a love for the truckers in our lives, I often think of John and wonder where he is and what he's doing. My trucker son had to deliver in the Bronx in New York City not too long ago. Now, he's in New York state again.

I took a neighbor to the doctor, leaving at 9:15 this morning, and it was such a long drawn out affair that it was about 1:30 when I got back home. So, then, I felt the need for a long, first day of Spring nap. :)

Y'all have a good rest of the day.

Ruth Ann

I have heard from many including a rogers employee, sitting in Emerg at the same time as me, that the cost of cell service is cheaper than having a land line.  I argued that my long distance is free because of the plan I have...... Now bell costs have gone up substantially I am wondering about going strictly cell as well.  THe thing I like about cell service is people can call you whether you are home or not.  With John on the road both of us having cell phones has been a really good thing.

We have had light snow all day.  No great accumulation but it has been non stop.  The only sign of spring was the temperature didn't dip below 32F....We have become used to the -60's so this is balmy weather!

Have a good sleep tonight folks!

Update on Thomas....

So Thomas has moved out of ICU to the 7th floor (general pediatrics). This involved a lot of moving around and dislodged some large plugs of mucus in his lungs. After lots of coughing and suctioning, he is watching tv and smiling/almost laughing at Big Bang Theory. He has a very expressive face which he is using to communicate along with nods, head shakes, and some movement in his arms. If requires a lot of regular suctioning, they may move him back to the ICU for the night, but most likely he will stay in his private room.
Physio starts tomorrow.

Hi everyone.  It is another beautiful and sunny morning here but was down to 37 degrees when I went to coffee this morning.  We had a big surprise at coffee when one of the men announced that he and his wife were relocating to Hutchison, Kansas into a retirement apartment in a big complex.  This is to occur in May.  They have a son and grandchildren that live out there.  I wasn't able to get my garage door to open yesterday so the company is suppose to be here midday to fix the problem.  I got to sit in my good friends new Toyota Avalon.  It is a lovely car with lots of bells and whistles. Nothing else on the schedule for today for me.  Pat will go to a meeting this morning and then probably out to lunch with friends.

Judy, it sounds like winter isn't through with you all yet.  Interesting tidbit about Canadian Maple Syrup.  It sounds like John experienced all types of weather on his current trip. Thanks for the update on Thomas.  It sounds like he is making progress.

Ruth, we did away with our home phones two or three years ago but I kept the old home number on my cell phone.  It sure made life easier rather than trying to notify folks of a new phone number.  As time goes by Pat gives out her number to her friends and if they call my phone I just hand my phone to her.  We have adjusted to this process very well and I keep my phone on my belt or by my bed at all times.  However, I understand that not all folks like the cell phone as the only phone idea but do think before too long that may be our only option unless we use home phones through the Internet.

Marilyn, it sounds like it was time to get those brakes fixed before you had bigger problems and expenses with the rotors.  You certainly had a busy morning with all that cleaning.  I also need to do more reading or listening to books.

Good morning Jeanne.

Jane, I couldn't imagine that your granddaughter wouldn't win her case before Judge Judy.  Doesn't the TV show actually pay the settlement costs of the case?  I hope so as it would probably be hard for your granddaughter to collect.

Ruth Ann, it sounds like you have had good service from your brakes.  Your PT Cruiser has given you good service over the years you have had it, if I recall correctly.  I can't imagine the problem it would be to drive a truck in New York City and make deliveries.

JudyB

Another issue we have with "toll phones" in the US there are very few to be had, that is because everyone has a cell phone!

Carol

We are both tired from helping out last night - I think they did fill 75,000 meals for world wide and a little part to the local pantry.  It is so organized - we went to help set up and found ourselves three hours later still in assembly mode.  Does anyone remember the Lucy and Ethel show when they worked at the chocolate factory?  It reminded me of that - there was no day-dreaming. We filled bags with 4 ingredients, the best worker of our 4 member team was a child.  He was so great.  Otherwise, we would have all been fired.  My job was to put in a measure of rice at the very end & then it was weighed, sealed and boxed.  Don was the first ingredient of veggies.  It makes a high protein stew.  Very interesting & glad to help but oh, my goodness - we were just exhausted.

Jane:  Hooray for your daughter's case.  I hope she really does get her money.

JudyB:  Got it!  Only buy your maple syrup.  Thomas is making great gains and I know that prayers make a difference.

Larry:  Dunkin doughnuts are my favorite - the plain one with a cup of coffee. :coffee:

Gotta go.  Laundry.

Carol

Oh, I forgot to say that this was a community effort of a food project - but our church signed on and as well as others.

Marilyn

Well the garage just called the car needs both brakes and rotors. I will be  putting it on my credit card because I don't have $387.  laying around to spend. The car is 26 years old so it seems to be about time it got new rotors, The is the 2nd set of brake I have put on. I should have my car by the end of the day or that is hat I was told.

HELLO

Cell phones are great we do have them but, we also found out that if the hydro failed you may or may not have a signal.  Cell's can be charged in your veh. if you have the connections.  Around here when the hydro failed several did not have a signal even on their cell's.   For now we like a land line as well as the cell's for emergency use.

Marilyn:  If we needed that kind of work done on our veh. the cost would be close to $1000.00  here. Yes ouch. Living in Canada has its advantages and disadvantages but this is my country of birth and I feel at home if you understand what I am trying to say.

I have some issues with pain so better get some meds to feel a little more comfortable.

It is a lovely day although it sounds as though more snow is on its way this evening.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.  Proverbs 3:6

Jeanne Lee

My cell phone is my only phone.  I had both a cell and a land line for several years, keeping the cell mainly for the long distance calls to my far-flung children.  But when prices went up and up for both services I decided to transfer my land line number to the cell and cancel the land line.  Additional blessing, I was able to add calls to Canada and still have less cost than the two phones.  And since my three children also have AT&T I don't even get charged for the minutes if I call their cells.  Loss of electrical power does not seem to affect it, since the times when power was off I was able to use it.  Of course, once the battery runs down, with no power I can't recharge it.  (Maybe I should invest in a car charger.)

Hi everyone.  Just a quick stop back.  I did get the garage door fixed, I hope, and now have my car safely in the garage.  When I got the mail this afternoon it had the check from Comcast for the refund on Stacey's account for the month they charged her account after she passed away.  I think that will be the last outstanding item.

Jeanne, we don't seem to lose our cell phone either when we lose power.  I do have a car charger as an emergency and probably need to get another one for the other car.  Unfortunately I am not able to call Canada with our unlimited service.

Ruth, I certainly do understand what you are saying about your home country.  Sorry to read you are in pain.

Marilyn, I am not surprised when you said you needed rotors when you were getting a terrible grinding noise.  That car has given you good service and I remember when you acquired it.

Carol, that is a huge project undertaken by your community.  That would have taken a lot of coordination to get everything where it needed to be.  Doing anything for three hours can be very tiring.  Glad you had help by the young person.

Judy, it has been a long time since I have seen a toll phone anywhere.  I am sure they were not worth keeping up when most everyone has a cellphone.

I came back this afternoon to specifically share a beautiful little poem that one of our housekeepers wrote and gave to us after Stacey's passing.  I have just framed it and we will put over the small wooden quilt storage unit where we put the remains, the cards and other things related to the memorial service.  Don't misunderstand this isn't a shrine or anything like that just a way to keep things together and this seemed so appropriate to put on the wall above it.

Stacey

Gently, sweetly, on Angel's wings
I have slipped away.
To a place I've never been
But dreamed to go one day.

The pushes softly on the sails
that billow all around.
We glide amid the ocean waves.
Salt spray and sun abound.

My body once so broken has healed,
and all my pain is gone.
I'll wait here whole and happy knowing
Around the cove one day you'll come.

Jeanne Lee

That's lovely, Larry.  Thanks for sharing it with us.

Lost my email notifications again and so got behind.  Been a busy week anyway, but I miss reading in here and posting, keeping up with you dear folks.

I got the corrections made today on the children's book Wheelie and Runt, so it should be ready for printing in about two weeks' time.  I am praying God uses it to bless many children, along with their teachers and parents.  They sent me the paper 'proof' copy, and when the little g-g-daughters were here the other evening I read it to them.  Lexi, the kindergartner loved it, and said, "You wrote this, Grandma?  Oh, I hope my teacher buys one to read to us!"  I thought that was a sweet endorsement for the book.

Larry, that was such a thoughtful gift from your housekeeper.  And the quilt chest with the poem hanging above is a nice thing to have.  I hope yours and Pat's hearts are feeling more comfort and less pain and loss as each day passes.

I'm not a real sports fan, but do enjoy basketball, and the Wichita State Shockers are playing Cal-Poly right now in playoffs for the Final Four.  Kansas State and Kansas are also in the running.  Wichita is undefeated so far this whole season.

Carol and Ruth Ann, you both do so much to help other people.  I know God will reward you  for your efforts and your love.  And you, too, Jeanne, for all your work on this site!  It is not taken for granted; we do appreciate you!

I had a terrible time doing the corrections for the book, as I had to do them on a PDF file, and had never worked with one before.  It took me three days to even get it up on the monitor in a form I could understand, then I didn't know how to use the Adobe Reader for the corrections.  After doing the first page over and over and over and over, I finally called my contact at Tate Publishing and she walked me through finding the right tools, which wasn't as simple as it could have been as she was on a Mac and I on a PC.  But it's done now, Praise the Lord!!

I am committed to keeping the little ones at their home in Moscow from March 31 through Friday April 4.  I know that will really test me, as it has been a lot of years since I took care of three little ones day and night!  But since they will be in their own home, it will be easier for all of us.  We have to be there as Lexi is in school.  Then the push is on to get everything ready for our trip!

Marilyn, that has been a really dependable car!  We have a 1995 Mercury that still runs perfectly, and uses less gas than the newer model.  It doesn't get used a lot, just when we each need a vehicle at the same time, going different directions.  We thought about trading it in, but what they offered us was just an insult, and we decided we would rather keep it or give it away than let them have it for so little.

Judy, I sure hope John manages to avoid the worst of the weather.  It's been SUCH a long winter, hasn't it?

Ruth, we also are considering getting rid of our land line, as they have so doggone many taxes it almost doubles the monthly bill.  If we do, though, I sure want to be able to keep that number, as it's really easy to remember, we've had it for so long, and how would one ever remember all the people you want to have your number?
