Morning Devotional...

Scripture: Psalm 66:5
"Come and see what God has done, how awesome his works in man's behalf!" NIV

The story is told of long ago one of the hottest days of the dry season. They had not seen rain in almost a month. The crops were dying. Cows had stopped giving milk. The creeks and streams were long gone back into the earth. It was a dry season that would bankrupt several farmers before it was through.

Every day, farmers would go about the arduous process of trying to get water to their fields. One creative idea had involved taking a truck to the local water rendering plant and filling it up with water. But severe rationing had cut everyone off. If they didn't see some rain soon --- everything would be lost.

It was on this day that one mom learned the true lesson of sharing and witnessed the only miracle she ever saw with her own eyes.

This day mom was in the kitchen making lunch for dad when she saw six-year-old Jimmy walking toward the woods. He wasn't walking with the usual carefree abandon of a youth but with a serious purpose. She could only see his back. He was obviously walking with a great effort --- trying to be as still as possible.

Jimmy disappeared into the woods --- then almost immediately he came running out again toward the house. Mom went back to making sandwiches; thinking that whatever task he had been doing was completed.

Moments later, however, Jimmy was once again walking in that slow purposeful stride toward the woods. This activity went on for an hour --- walking carefully to the woods and running back to the house.

Finally Mom couldn't take it any longer and crept out of the house and followed little Jimmy on his journey (being very careful not to be seen. Obviously he
was doing important work and didn't need his Mommy checking up on him).

Jimmy was cupping both hands in front of him as he walked being very careful not to spill the water he held in them. Maybe two or three tablespoons were held in his tiny hands. Mom sneaked close as he went into the woods. Branches and thorns slapped his little face, but he did not try to avoid them. He had a much higher purpose.

As mom leaned in to spy on him, she saw the most amazing site.

Several large deer loomed in front of him. Jimmy walked right up to them. Mom almost screamed for him to get away. A huge buck with elaborate antlers was dangerously close. But the buck did not threaten him --- he didn't even move as Jimmy knelt down. And there was a tiny fawn lying on the ground, obviously suffering from dehydration and heat exhaustion; it lifted its head with great effort to lap up the water cupped in Jimmy's hand.

When the water was gone, Jimmy jumped up to run back to the house as mom hid behind a tree. She followed him back to the house to a spigot to which we had shut off the water. Jimmy opened it all the way up and a small trickle began to creep out. He knelt there, letting the drip, drip slowly fill up his makeshift "cup," as the sun beat down on his little back. And it came clear to mom about the trouble he had gotten into for playing with the hose the week before. The lecture he had received about the importance of not wasting water. The reason he didn't ask for any help.

Time stood still for the drops to fill his hands. When he stood up and began the trek back, mom was there in front of him. His little eyes just filled with tears. "I'm not wasting," was all he said.

As he began his walk, mom joined him --- with a small pot of water from the kitchen. She let him tend to the fawn. It was his job. Mom just stood on the edge of the woods watching the most beautiful heart she had ever known --- working so hard to save another life.

As tears rolled down moms face and began to hit the ground, they were suddenly joined by other drops --- and more drops --- and more. Mom looked up at the sky. It was as if God, himself, was weeping with pride.

Rain came that day and saved the farm --- just like the actions of one little boy saved the fawn. Mom had witnessed her first miracle through the actions of her little son Jimmy.

This year we will be in the mountains for Thanksgiving and there are no Black Friday sales within ten miles and nothing up there that will be a "deal". We do a lot of shopping on the net because it beats going from store to store or at least we can find a product and then drive straight to where it is located.

It is snowing lightly this morning. I made myself go downstairs and do the wii balance board. Not a bad idea after my fall, so I thought. New coffee pot had half the grounds & water on the counter & floor so I just made a new pot full and this turned out alright - I must have done some little thing wrong.

Pat: That sounds like the perfect camera for Janet. She loves being under water. Thanks for your turkeys today.

Larry, you were so right!!! Thank you! I finally gave up with being careful when typing and the wandering cursor still wandered. So I found an old Visa card...expired 2005 but has Alan Jackson on it. I taped it over the touch pad and all is wonderful again! I got all the videos I have renamed. Then I went to bed. I knew right away that I wasn't going to go to sleep so got up and have most of my pictures renamed also. Back to bed at 3am.

Kitty and I are going swimming today. She has a bunch of places to go afterwards so she is driving. She likes to shop and spend more money than me. But then she has more money to shop with than me!!

Hi everyone from a rainy and chilly Georgia. We are suppose to have rain today and tomorrow. It really poured while I was at McDonald's and then walking at the gym. I have little on my schedule today other than my Monday men's lunch and today we are going to eat at Chili's. I think that may be a good day for a bowl of chili.

Carol, the Passages book would be a good one for our children to have as a reference. I sure wish I could have read it before taking on that responsibility with my parents. It also has relevance to those of us that are older but may become care givers for our spouses or others. She is also an interesting writer and that makes the book worthwhile. There are lots of references to resources that could be helpful, most of which I had never heard of before. Your reference to shopping sounds like Pat and I as we are doing most of our shopping over the Internet and wish we had the option of doing the grocery shopping that way. Unfortunately that is not offered in our area. Pat and I are both at the point where we need to use the electric carts when in the large stores and it is very painful for Pat to get up and down on them to reach the shelves. I told her we need to go together as I have no trouble getting up and down but it is the walking that is so tiring.

Etta Sue, glad the credit card idea worked. When you described the problem it triggered my memory as had the same problem and found it worked for me. We just don't realize that we are hitting that pad when we type.

Janet, thanks for the devotional for the week. Glad you are safely home.

Our sunny day has turned cloudy almost like it might rain it is to warm for snow.

The Canadian Thanksgiving was in October but the choice of our family was attend the local fair then come home to relax and perhaps a light dinner as they had had their share of popcorn etc. In fact Mel and I still go to a fair not local then have dinner out.

For the rest of the day I am planning on doing catch up on unfinished jobs I am not winning they just need to get done.

Larry, I still have a fake credit card taped over my finger pad on this laptop--very helpful suggestion you gave me, and then Etta Sue. I sure appreciate it, as it was really annoying to hav e all the jumping.

Carol, I told Pat that 35 feet wouldn't cut it for me, as we are usually at least 60 feet or more deep in the water while diving. I am in the market for a new camera, but not necessarily an UW one. I take more pictures on land than underwater, and don't feel I can afford to buy two cameras at one time. But some of them you can purchase the underwater housings for, and that would serve both purposes.

The play grandson was in was cute, it was Sussical the Musical, and he played both Yertle the Turtle and The Grinch--so he was green. The makeup really was hard on his face. It felt like corn cobs, poor kid. In fact, the first night he woke his Mom in the night to ask her what to use on his face as it was itching and burning.

I am doing household chores and other "stuff" today, went to the dentist for teeth cleaning early this morning. Will go visit Beth and Mom soon.

Ruth, no, they haven't called me in to work again yet. But I never know when they might!

Ten miles, Carol? We have to drive at least 60 miles to any Black Friday sales. I enjoy going if I can go with one of my girls, but Darrel doesn't want to go.

HI everyone. It is another rainy morning in Georgia but hasn't rained much since daylight and is to clear off later today but think I heard them say there is a chance for a storm later. Tomorrow thru Saturday are suppose to be nice.

Not much on the schedule for today. We didn't go to the gym this morning to walk. I am feeling tired and the other guys weren't iin favor of walking today either so we passed. I will attend a meeting in a little while and then have to stop at the store to get something for lunch. Pat is meeting her friend, with whom she is making a quilt, at the church this morning so they can have room to fix the backing. Then it will be time to machine quilt the top.

I am enjoying my new ebook reader. This is an early Christmas present from my wife. I used it a lot last evening to read a novel I had downloaded free from Barnes and Noble. I found out yesterday that I cannot download e-books that are current from the library as this device is not compatible with the company that has the digital rights to the books. However, there are tons of other books available and someday maybe I will even buy a book or two that I want to read. Barnes and Noble also offers free ebooks that are current, which is what I am currently reading.

Jeanne, treat yourself and enjoy that book.

Janet, I had forgotten that you had the same problem with the touch pad that Etta Sue has had. I am sure it is a common problem but often the computer may have a function key set to turn the touch pad on and off. I am not interested in getting into crowds of people to do the black Friday sales although we have many stores close by.

Ruth, your Thanksgiving activities sounds like a lot of fun when done with the family. We had an early Thanksgiving get together with our son and DIL and will go down to have the traditional Thanksgiving dinner with our daughter as we did last year at the Shepard Spinal Center, which is across the street from where she lives. They have the traditiional fare and it is reasonable and my wife doesn't have to spend days in the kitchen preparing for a big meal. However, she wants to fix a turkey because she likes it.

Time to leave for the morning. Hope this is a nice day for everyone.

I am still wondering why my pc guru didn't ask if I had a recovery disc for this Toshiba. A lot of things do not work now!

And I burnt pictures, music, videos and documents onto CD/DVD's yesterday. Then deleting them off the laptop. I notice that the path for pictures was weird. So I found that part and deleted it. Then emptied the recycle bin. Well, all I can say is that to get my Pictures to come up, I now have to click on Start>>>Documents and find a Pictures Folder!! The icon on Start>>>Pictures...is blank...nothing there! And I don't know how to get my pictures back to that icon.

Now to see if I can delete everything that is on my external and start over! Then my laptop should be back to the way I want it. Long process!

Then I have to start on my family 2011 calenders that I make every year! I think last year I printed over 20 of them.

Yesterday Kitty and I went swimming and then went to Office Max, Micheals, Hallmark and Don Pablos. Great day!

Today is Euchre and this evening I go to church for a meeting. I was asked to be on the nominating committee for the church council. I don't know what all that means, but I am willing to do all I can. Then I have a list of things to get at Walmart.

I did a little volunteer work yesterday and today, a little over an hour each time, at the elementary school. They are having their book fair, so I was just watching the kids, straightening up the books, answering questions, etc. I saw several kids with plastic ziploc bags containing their money, all in change. Some had to choose several times to be able to pay for what they chose.

It's another beautiful day here, temps in the 40s.

Like Jeanne, I'd like to curl up and finish the book I am reading, but the other me says no, get some work done. Decisions, decisions......

Lary, that sounds like a good plan to save Pat the work of making a huge dinner for Thanksgiving. I don't know what our plans are yet.

Son in law Jeff has the leading role in their community theatre play this weekend, and daughter Diane is helping cook the meal. Needless to say, we will be attending, and chose Friday night.

Hi to all. Again I am sorry that I have not been posting. It seems that things are very busy with the family and we also celebrated our 40th. anniversary on the 31st. of Oct. but started before that with a wonderful party with some of our friends. Then our kids came to our place and we had an other get together and they gave us a gift of an overnight at a beautiful hotel. I think that I told you we had the birth of a new grandson on the 12th of Oct. they call him Quinlan Gordon Joseph Duval and he is beautiful. But some bad news so I ask you all to pray for him as he is in the hospital with a breathing problem and it is being very hard on my daughter as she is still recovering from a C section and also has an other son. But we have faith and we know that God is able and nothing happens that is not supposed to.

To all in the U.S.A. Ihope that you will have a wonderful thanksgiving and don't eat to much turkey.

Well, today the Senior Center is having their annual T-Day feast for seniors. We're going. The Rotarys are doing it, and they have entertainment, etc. It's a good thing.

Al, sounds like a fun time at the Senior Center. Don't eat too much turkey.

We had heavy rain overnight and mild temperatures. The rain has stopped for now, but we now have a "wind advisory" until this evening. Then temperatures should be dropping back to normal for mid-November. One thing about the weather here in the north country - it's never boring!

Gord ~ Happy 40th. That's a mile-stone these days! And congratulations on the newest grandson. May God keep him, his Mommy and all the rest of his family in His loving arms.

Euchre was fun. The nominating committee meeting was different. And the trip to Walmart was late! But I decided that is the time to shop at Walmart...8pm or later! Lots of parking spaces and no one running into you inside. It was raining and the drive home was different...rain and dark...not used to either. But I got everything to make my Cornbread Salad for a pitch-in after church Sunday at church.

I finally have the laptop back to satisfy me again. Today I want to start on my 2011 calenders...preparing them on the computer so I can start printing soon!

Have you noticed that when you speak to others that don't have computers that they look at you as if thinking...why? Then they will say that in time everyone will need a computer. Even Ivalou. She realizes all that I can do with mine but I don't know if she could conquer the computer or not. Even her cordless phone baffles her at times...when it isn't doing right. Oh well! It takes all kinds of people.

Etta Sue, a cranky old man I knew years ago used to say, "It doesn't take 'em, we just got 'em!" He also said, "Some people say that people are funny, but if you ask me, they're just darn aggravating!" Congrats on getting your laptop to behave properly again! I am very much technically challenged, but I keep on trying.

Gord, congratulations to you and your wife on the anniversary, also on the new baby.

Jeanne, we are having wind and a little rain today. We need moisture so bad! Stay in and stay dry and warm.

Al, go ahead and eat all the turkey you can, just be careful of the potatoes, gravy, dressing and pie! (Am I being a spoil sport?)

We both had appointments for toe nail trims today, but when I went, I learned our nurse is out for at least a month. She had a hysterectomy. So I walked on the treadmill about a mile and a quarter and came back home. Too cold and damp and windy to walk outside today.

Hi everyone. Eating a bite of lunch and looking forward to an nice afternoon rest as am feeling weary today. I went to coffee and then on to Bible study this morning but skipped the donut shop and eating lunch out. Pat has an activity this afternoon and didn't attend the Bible study with me as one activity a day is about her limit. Tonight I have choir so need to so over the Christmas music before this evening.

I am really enjoying my ebook reader. It has a nice bookmark feature, as do all of the ebook readers) that makes it easy to get back to where you left off. I downloaded several more free ebooks from Barnes and Noble last evening.

Gord, congrats on your new grandchild and hope and pray his medical situation improves quickly. Also 40 years of marriage is something to be proud of.

Etta Sue, glad you got your computer working the way you wanted it. One way to easily get to any often used folder is to set a shortcut to it on the desktop. I have found that getting to Walmart before 10 am is also a good time to shop as this seems to be before the crowds appear.

Janet, it was nice of you to volunteer at the school. I am sure your help was appreciated. After a couple of rainy days here we have a beautiful cool and clear day in Georgia.

Jeanne, I grew up in Missouri and the weather was very changeable, often within one day. It isn't quite that way here in Georgia.

Al, hope you and your wife enjoyed the early Thanksgiving dinner. I remember when we were staying with my folks about 10 years ago that the local senior center was used to prepare and serve a Christmas dinner and that was provided and prepared by one of the service clubs for the seniors. If I remember correctly that was done on Christmas morning and was nice for those who wouldn't be with family that day.

Thanks for all the congratulations for our 40th. Just an update on our grandson he is still not well and his mother has to stay with him all the time or his father they are also right next to the nurses station.

Please continue to pray for the little guy as he still is congested and has a urinary infection and some other thing. Thanks for your prayers. Gord and Noreen.

Hi everyone. Wow, where is everyone? I don't have much to write about today. We did have a good choir practice last evening. I have been to coffee and walked at the gym this morning. Following that I made a quick trip to Walmart for one item. It was right at the front of the store so didn't have to walk those long isles.

I have nothing else on my schedule for today. Pat is attending her Bible study class and they were bringing a bag lunch so they can have a little social time after the study. She won't be home until early afternoon.

Now it's time for a nice quiet afternoon.

I have errands to run this afternoon and then a meeting tonight in a town about 30 miles away. Fortunately I only have to drive a couple of miles after dark and the rest of the way I'll be a passenger. The sun is bright this morning, but we're supposed to get some rain/snow this evening and of course our nice mild temperatures are a memory.

What happened the other day is that I deleted (and emptied the Recycle Bin) 'Pictures' by mistake and then when I went to Start>>>Pictures...nothing was there. I was lucky that I had what picture folders I wanted on CD and Flash so I put them back on the computer but couldn't get them to where I could click Start>>>Pictures. So I had to put a Picture folder under Gann. Well, I figured out how to put them back in 'Pictures'...so simple...drag and drop!! Sometimes I feel so dumb! Duh!

I worked on my family calender yesterday. Looking good once again. And got an invite to Kaye Don's side of the family for Christmas where the women bring a woman's gift for an exchange. Last year I made two calenders for Ivalou and I. I asked her last night if she would like me to do the same this year. She said they went well last year and yes. So I need to print two calenders for that!

Tomorrow 11 of us from church are going to 'Answers in Genesis Creations Museum' in northern Kentucky...across the river from Cincinnati. So I don't know if I will post on here until after I get home. I might try Droid. Haven't used Droid to post yet! Hmmm!

Off to work on my calenders!!

Larry, I am learning to not try to "build Rome in a day" but it's hard for me. When I have stuff to do, I want to get it done! You are such an inspiration to me!

Etta Sue, I wish I knew how to make calendars on my computer. Don't even attempt to explain it to me, I won't understand half of it! I sure wish I could go with you to the Creation Museum--what a treat!

I went to visit Beth this morning, fed her breakfast, then Darrel and I went to Hugoton, saw Diane and took her to lunch, then to Liberal and did a few things, went by to see Jeff and Mark. I got some of those wonderful grandson hugs! How I love those!

Well I was "Off my feed" (as they would say in the canine world) for a couple of weeks but God is good and I am doing better. I am back to my knitting, and the X-stitch I am doing I will be taking out as I am not happy with the results. That is OK though as I found A pattern that works much better.
3 sweaters left to do, with a month to do them and X-stitch, and another project to do. I will have help with the other project though.
Carol I won't be knitting that sweater till the spring I think. One question though, the instructions give needle size. Could you please check if the sizes are US sizing or Canadian. There is a big difference and Pat pointed that out to me today when we talked. Could you check please?

Hi everyone. Another beautiful day in Georgia. It is crisp but sunny. After coffee this morning I went to Aldi's and Ingle's (grocery stores) to pick up a few items that Pat needed. Came home and unloaded the car and put them away. They had turkeys for sixty-eight cents a pound and was able to get a 13 pound bird that is frozen. Pat isn't cooking for Thanksgiving but always likes to fix a turkey this time of the year. I also got some pumpkin as she will take a homemade pie down to our daughters to have after having Thanksgiving dinner across the street from where she lives. We had their pie last year and it wasn't good.

I have no other plans for today. I need to clean off some shelves in the garage and rearrange some things but think I have used my energy for today in going shopping.

Judy, sounds like you have a lot of knitting to do. Hope you don't wear out your needles.

Janet, I understand the compulsion to get done whatever is on the list. I am just trying not to put too much on the list and am having less difficulty is deciding an item can be moved to tomorrow's list pretty easily. Glad you were able to get some grandparent hugs. I still have very fond memories of the hugs I got from my grandmother as they were special.

Etta Sue, glad you got your pictures straightened out. I usually wait awhile to empty the recycle bin in case I want to recover something. I have seldom needed to do that but with the large storage capacity of today's computers having files in the recycle bin for awhile is generally not a problem. Will be looking for a Droid posting from you.

Jeanne, it sounds like winter is fast approaching your area. I think we have had only one night where it got to freezing so far this fall. It is getting into the higher thirties at night but up to the sixties during the day.

Please continue to pray for Quinlan as he has had very bad nights and the breathing is not so good and he has congestiong so they have put him back on medication. Thank you for your prayers.

I have a new to-do list and at the top is 'Visit Creations Museum again for a two-day trip!' What a great place? The main thing is explaining how Evolution vs. Creation is. There were three movies that were wonderful from IMAX type to three screens. All the dioramas looked like live people...actually wax. So clean. So roomy. So courteous. The only downside was there was not enough time to read everything. With that being said if any of you are around the Cincy area, go visit Creations Museum.

I didn't use Droid to post today. Too busy and not enough time.

As for my calender...for the living, I put their names and age on the date of their birthday. Also add their anniversary year on the date of the marriage. For the deceased, I put their birth year and year of their marriage but a different color. I add holidays, daylight savings times changes and first day of the seasons. I made my own template because I wanted the 'date' squares to be big enough to write appointments and such in. But for the new year I change last years month to this years. That moved the numbers. And changed the year. Then I have to move every entry a day forward this...really confusing on Leap Year. And change everyone's age! Last count is there are 49 living now...4 deceased. It's fun and one niece asked me if that meant she was suppose to send a card for everyone's birthday and anniversary! No! But you can sing Happy Birthday to them and say a prayer! It's a fun thing for me to do for the family!

Hi everyone. We are enjoying such beautiful weather here in Georgia. Sunny and clear again today.

I am just back from coffee and will leave soon to attend a meeting and then plan a quiet day. I was very tired yesterday and went to bed last night very early. Otherwise I am feeling fine. Plan on catching a lot of football today and reading on my ebook reader.

Our daughter is still in the hospital after going their early yesterday morning when she found her blood sugar at over 500. They did an EKG and apparently didn't like what they saw and within the hour she was in the cath lab for another heart cath and that turned out OK. Later they checked her legs for blood clots and this morning are doing a CT scan to check her lungs for blood clots. She said they have told her that her blood work is all messed up. She hopes to be released today.

Etta Sue, that sounds like a wonderful place that you visited. Glad you enjoyed it and sure you will be looking forward to going back. Your calendars are quite a gift and I have never heard of anyone making a calendar like that. It sounds like a lot of work to adjust everything and change the ages. Do you get any flak from the ladies for showing their ages?

Gord, so sorry to read that your new grandson continues to have congestion and breathing problems. I know that is a big concern for everyone.
