Oldiesmann: I'm not aware of any Jenny. Not sure why activity has died down on this site so much though 2023-06-12, 00:06:36

JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Morning Devotional...

Praying and Sharing
Acts 4:23-37 NLT

As soon as they were freed, Peter and John returned to the other believers and told them what the leading priests and elders had said.  When they heard the report, all the believers lifted their voices together in prayer to God: "O Sovereign Lord, Creator of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them—you spoke long ago by the Holy Spirit through our ancestor David, your servant, saying,

'Why were the nations so angry?
Why did they waste their time with futile plans?
   The kings of the earth prepared for battle;
      the rulers gathered together
   against the Lord
      and against his Messiah.'

"In fact, this has happened here in this very city! For Herod Antipas, Pontius Pilate the governor, the Gentiles, and the people of Israel were all united against Jesus, your holy servant, whom you anointed.  But everything they did was determined beforehand according to your will.  And now, O Lord, hear their threats, and give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word.  Stretch out your hand with healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus."

After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness.

All the believers were united in heart and mind. And they felt that what they owned was not their own, so they shared everything they had.  The apostles testified powerfully to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and God's great blessing was upon them all.  There were no needy people among them, because those who owned land or houses would sell them and bring the money to the apostles to give to those in need.

For instance, there was Joseph, the one the apostles nicknamed Barnabas (which means "Son of Encouragement"). He was from the tribe of Levi and came from the island of Cyprus.  He sold a field he owned and brought the money to the apostles.

When was the last time you shared something with someone else?

None of these Christians felt that what they had was their own, and so they were able to give and share, eliminating poverty among them.  They would not let a brother or sister suffer when others had plenty.

How do you feel about your possessions?  We should adopt the attitude that everything we have comes from God, and we are only sharing what is already his.

Thanks, Etta Sue.  Good thoughts, good word from the Lord today.  And it goes along with our pastor's message this morning, too.

I was going to work some more on my edits, but am feeling sleepy, so I think I will take a little nap first.  Or try  to, anyway.  Sometimes when I can't keep my eyes open, I lie down or get in my recliner...then can't go to sleep.  :(

Hope everybody is having a happy Sunday!

Carol

We had a visiting dog last night.  I sure do miss having a dog in our lives - the children brought home more rescues and each one was a marvelous gift to us.  One we bought, we turned over to a lady on the farm  because of the nasty disposition (not the lady)...

Larry:  there is no such thing as a lost day.  There is a reason for each and every minute of our lives - I truly believe and more and more each and every day.  I had a half day of miserable remembering of things in my teen years and so forth and then realized what a waste of my thinking.  Really needed that reminder to be grateful.  In your case, you just needed to rest and it is wonderful that the day could be set aside just for that purpose.  Good idea on widening your doors.

Sermon for this month is again on being generous - this week is teaching children to be generous by being generous yourself as a parent and grandparent.

Butternut squash & one sweet potato soup is in the crock pot and the bread machine has a banana whole wheat loaf going right now.  We are just enjoying this Sunday afternoon with the colorful trees and balmy weather -- winter weather is in the high country.

Carol

JudyB:  I thought I was sending you a personal message on Facebook and did not realize it was for everyone.  Anyway, I sometimes add Nutmeg spice to the soup too.  Whatever feels right.

Just feeling so tired and it is only 6 PM - I read that 5 1/2 hours to 6 hours of sleep is very good for women's health ---  huh?  That is about what I have always slept and now that I am elderly - drats - that doesn't seem like enough.  Even when I was almost 12, I had to get up early every school day to babysit a neighbor's newborn an hour before school.

We have to watch Huckabee as he is having Herman Cain on tonight - for a little while as the Minnesota Vikings are playing too and that will win out in this house.  Purple People Eaters --rah!

Janet

Well, I never did lie down or get in my recliner, been working on the edits for NINE hours straight!   :o  I think it's  past time to stop now.

Hi, Carol, good to read your newsy post.

Now I'm off to bed.

Good evening (ummm - I see it's already morning again!!), friends,

Last night was an awake all night time, so the Lord and I werre able to accomplish some growth I needed and also then I had enough energy to move a bit of furniture and do a bit of work in my bedroom before showering and attending 2 worship services, then ate with friends, and took my riders home. The last young man was having computer problems, so I was able to help him, too.

Then......AHHHHHHHHhhhhhhh-zzzzzzzz...... that 5 hour nap certainly felt good. Now it's sleepy time again, so I'll be off and soon dozing peacefully. :)

G'nite, friends,

Ruth Ann

Hi everyone.  Another beautiful morning and happy to be able to say I am feeling back to my normal self, whatever that represents.  Just back from coffee and have a couple of things on the schedule for later in the day including my normal men's Monday luncheon.

Etta Sue, thanks for the devotional for this week.

Carol, I agree with you about the wasted day since I was doing what I needed to do.  I hated to miss choir but it turned out that the men didn't sit in the choir loft after all and it was planned that the women of the choir were doing the anthem yesterday.

Janet, those edits must be difficult.  Are you spending as many hours on them as you did writing the book?  Do you think they are going to make the book better?

Ruth Ann, it is nice when we can share our computer knowledge and be of help to others.  Hope you can get a nap today and sleep better tonight.

Janet

Larry, doing the edits is more difficult by far than writing the book in the first place!  But yes, I think it will make the book better.  Since I am so familiar with Beth's story from the very beginning, I made mistakes in getting some events out of chronological order, not including enough dates or referencing her age when certain events happened, and also needed to clarify as we go along what changes the NF was causing in her body.  So having someone with 'fresh eyes' read and comment and ask questions, making suggestions as she went, is very helpful.  Please pray with me that the book will accomplish the goals we have for it:  to glorify God, to educate people about Neurofibromatosis and increase funding for research, and to showcase Beth's indomitable spirit throughout her life.  Thanks.

I have done a bit of housework, got and ate breakfast and cleaned up, showered and dressed, watched a couple of very inspirational Christian programs, prayed and communed with my Lord..........now I'm ready to get on with my Monday!  :)

I love to sleep.  I find I can sleep around the clock anymore.  I say it is because of taking Zyrtec but I don't know.  And I fully believe I can catch up on lost sleep when I have a 'J' night!  Inky and I took about a 3-hour nap yesterday afternoon and I was asleep before 11pm last night and up at 8am.

First things first today.  I ate my breakfast and took some coffee with me to get my estimate on Hawaii.  They faxed the information off to my insurance company.  I was surprised that it was less than a third of what I thought and will only take one day when the parts are in to get Hawaii back to being in ship-shape again.

Then as I was heading home, I decided I needed gas in the car.  I went to Lapel and filled her up.  No receipt.  So I went in to get the receipt and since the pump didn't give me a receipt, I could choose any drink from the fountain machines.  So I got a Pumpkin Spice Cappuccino!!  I love Pumpkin Spice!  What a treat.

I talked to Ivalou and told her about it.  She said she needed gas, too, so I told her to use pump #4!!  Maybe she will get a free drink also!  ha!

Now that I am home, I have read my devotions and have done somethings here on the computer.  The second load of clothes is in the dryer.  I really need to dust and later make some Spaghetti Slaw for Euchre tomorrow!  Then it will be time to relax and crochet in my recliner.

That's my day.  Beautiful outside even though it is a tad chilly.  It is windy but not like yesterday.  It is sunny with some wispy clouds.  Beautiful!

We know today that (ugh) winter is on the way.  It's dark and overcast, with a very brisk breeze, but no rain so far.  Oh well.  The day still belongs to the Lord, and everything in it.

I did get a haircut today.  The last time, I finally got the hairdresser to do what I asked and I've been pleased with the result.  Sometimes these "stylists" don't know best.   :)

Janet: Now I am even more anxious to read your book!!!  I have lost two nieces who had Neurofibromatosis.... one at 18 years old and the other at the age of 41 leaving a husband an an eight year old son. I had not been aware that Beth was dealing with the affects of this disorder!! My nephew was tested completely clear.

Jeanne Lee: It's wonderful to have a hairdresser that doesn't superimpose her wishes over yours. I have seen drastic results!!
We are having wet and windy weather and the forecast calls for more until at least Thursday night.

I have gone & come back from a work assignment and have a committee meeting to attend, tonight; lots of traveling.

Thank you, Etta Sue, for the devotional. The best book I have read, recently, was An Unexpected Adventure by Lee Strobel and Mark Mittelberg. Taking everyday risks to talk with people about Jesus. Many times our opportunities come when sharing:

Hi, friends, I'm resting a bit from my labors. God gave me a clear vision of something I need to deal with. But, along with it is His promise that I won't be alone through this process.

Etta Sue, good news about Hawaii.

And, Janet, I often served as that "question asker" when I worked - people would bring (or send) their pre-publication documents for close scrutiny. So, I both understand your side, and that of the reviewer.

Y'all have a great rest of this day and also a good day tomorrow. I'll be away from home all day with doctor appointments, business meetings, etc. So, do not expect to be back until late enough that I'll be plenty ready to rest the night away. ;)

Love to everyone.

Hi everyone.  After a very warm day yesterday it is to be cooler here today with a less than 50% chance of rain late this afternoon.  I have the man who did some remodeling for us years ago coming to look at the wind turbine on my roof that seems to be a problem.  I have given up on the roofing company.   I poured the milk on my morning cereal this morning and it was clabbered so had to discard my breakfast.  I will get something at McDonald's this morning and then get some more milk.  I do have a meeting to attend this morning and and that will be about it after the contractor leaves this afternoon.

Janet, thanks for the info on the editing process.  You certainly have worthy goals for your efforts and I expect you will see a lot of success.

Etta Sue, it is indeed a blessing to be able to sleep.  I feel very fortunate in that regard as seldom have a problem.  Sleep revives me for a few hours.  Glad your car will be fixed in short order and the damage wasn't as expensive as you expected.  It was a nice gesture for the station to give you a free drink when their equipment wasn't working properly.

Jeanne, much cooler here this morning but don't think winter is near in our area.

RuthV, sounds like a good book.  You will have a special tie to Janet's book after losing two nieces to this dreadful disease.

Ruth Ann, hope your doctor appointments and other meetings go well for you.  I did a lot of writing as a part of my work life and always liked to have someone else proof it and provide feedback.  My son complains that in the classes he is taking so many people can't write a coherent sentence, have trouble spelling and don't know proper grammar or punctuation.

Etta Sue

I got a call from the Claims Representative yesterday and was told the estimate had been received.  The only discrepancy was the cost of labor and Miller's Body Shop accepted the lesser cost...only about $9 difference.  So now they are to order the parts and when they come in, Miller's will call me to bring in Hawaii!  Things seem to be going smoothly!

I made the Spaghetti Slaw yesterday for Euchre today.  When I open my fridge, it smells like onions!  Love it!

Rain today.  And right now on my WeatherFX, it is only 45 degrees!  Nothing is moving outside so no wind.

And then I must not forget to take out the trash when I get home from Euchre!

Janet

Another busy day! (Is there any other kind?)  ;)  I did some cleaning and other work in the house this morning, tried to work on my book; got a call from my editor which was reassuring.  She says she is still going to try to shorten the conceptual editing process by one month!  That's good news!  We talked about the pictures I submitted for the book, places I still need to clarify or expand, etc.  And she said I may email it to her and she will 'clean it up' and send it back for me to finish, which will be a big relief.  I have it pretty messed-up looking now, with all her notes, questions, deletions, and my deletions, additions, questions and comments to her, etc.  So if she approves my changes and takes out all that stuff, I can see much better where I am and what else I need to do.  Prayers appreciated!

Ruth V.....I am so sorry about your nieces, and is the boy you mentioned their brother?  Does one or both of their parents have NF?  I would like to hear more about these girls, as I want to understand all I can about others' struggles with this disorder.  If you want, you can send me a PM or an email.  My editor wants me to include as much information as I can about other cases of NF.  The girls would not need to be identified in the book.  Thanks so much for any help you can provide.

Larry, I am tickled pink to hear that you are feeling better and not so tired!

Etta Sue, I hope this is your car's last CLOSE ENCOUNTER OF THE OUCHIE kind!  And isn't insurance wonderful when you need it and it pays?

I want to do more on the book, get it sent back to the editor, and write captions for the photos I sent them.  Then have to go see Beth, stopping at Dollar General on the way for a get well and a birthday card she wants to send John's sister.

You can really feel the change of the seasons here!  Cool and brisk, frost predicted for tonight, freeze later this week.

Ruth Ann, I wish you or Larry were here to help me with computer stuff.  It would make this task SO much easier!  :-\

QuoteThe best book I have read, recently, was An Unexpected Adventure by Lee Strobel and Mark Mittelberg. Taking everyday risks to talk with people about Jesus.

RuthV:  Both of the authors are members of our church - Cherry Hills Community.  I read that book a few months ago.  We are so fortunate as both are members.  Actually, if you are interested at all, the church as a website gives directions on listening to the sermons .  Nice if you don't feel up to going to church.

I am so glad that Don felt well enough to visit three friends all day today as he had a reaction to the dye in his CT scan a few hours after the test.  2nd. time this has happened.  He had to go to bed very early and I woke him at ten for him to take his bedtime pill.

Sewing a table runner for a Christmas gift as the quilting group exchanges - they are such experts that this is hard for me to even begin and takes me 3 times as long to finish.

Janet:  This book has been a mammoth undertaking for you and Beth.  Wishing you a quick ending to all of the editing!

Janet

Thanks, Carol!  I just got home from visiting Beth and getting more dates from her.  Her memory is great--like my Mom's was!  And I just emailed my editor with the list of captions for the photos to be included in the book......so it is progressing!  End not in sight, but maybe soon we will have at least an idea of when it will be a REAL BOOK!

Praise God for the final publication of that book when it happens!
I probably won't be here much tomorrow, as they're going to have a planned power outage tomorrow from 0800 until at least 1700.  I hope it's less than that.  They're installing "overhead equipment."  Please pray they'll get done early.

RuthV

Janet: Yes, the boy is their brother and only the dad carried the gene.
I started to write a PM and it got so LONG. Then I had to telephone my sister to straighten me out and I transferred it to a word document. When I'm finished I can send PM and attach it.. O.K?
Hearing that you have a book, in production, excited her and she has requested that I get her a copy, when it's available.

Although the weather was supposed to be bad, today has been quite nice, with many sunny periods.

Love & hugs to all!! You all are constantly in my thoughts & prayers!!

Janet

Ruth V., I am so grateful for your help.  If I have further questions, I will contact you!  The information you sent will help people to understand Neurofibromatosis better.

I must get busy on the book, see you all later!

Euchre was fun and the dinner of Sloppy Joe's, Spaghetti Slaw, chips, dip, baked beans and pickles was a nice treat.

After that I took my sound machine that I never used to my Youth Minister's house.  The two little girls, 10 months apart, are having a hard time of sleeping.  They wake up and won't go back to sleep.  So this machine has different sounds; heart beat, ocean waves, mountain streams, white noise, springtime birds, summer insect sounds.  I haven't heard yet if it worked or not!

At around 8:30pm when I got home, I opened the door to take my trash to Ivalou's drive.  I smelled a weird smell.  Like a chemical smell.  I even looked at my house and didn't see anything awry!  Thought maybe it was my furnace and the chemical smell was from when the furnace was cleaned.  When I started to come back, there were cars coming from both directions and since I had black on and it was dark, I waited until they passed me.  The car from the west I noticed was going through fog.

I came in and changed clothes and heard sirens.  Straight north of me on SR32 is a house and smoke was coming from it.  Eventually I saw 14 emergency vehicles with their lights flashing.  I listened to the news at 11 and didn't hear anything about it.  Traffic was high on my road since they closed off a mile of SR32.

I went to bed and at 5am when I got up for the 'small room' in the house, there was still 6 sets of flashing lights.  This morning I still see a couple over there.  I can't remember if I could see the house from here because of trees or not.  I never saw flames but I notice this morning that there is a pine tree in my yard between the house and me.

Exciting.  Just prayed that no one was hurt!

Today is Federation Day.  Christian Womens Fellowship from all the Christian churches in Hamilton County are coming to Clarksville Christian Church today.  I am to help in the kitchen since we are furnishing lunch of pot pie, salad, green beans and dessert, iced tea and coffee.

Then this evening is Crochet Angels.  I have heard from the two learners and they 'got it'!  They were so happy when they told me that it finally clicked in!

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.   Today we had Bible study and then choir tonight.  It started raining here yesterday afternoon about 4 pm and it lasted until about 11 am.  Yesterday the man came and went on the roof and determined that two of the three wind turbines were worn out.  So I decided to replace them, including the third one (which was as old as the others).  The man went with me to Home Depot and loaded them on the cart for me and then put them in and took them out of the car.  About thirty minutes later they were installed and it just started to rain as he came down off the roof.  He was also able to fix a big slide out cabinet drawer in one of our base cabinets that we haven't been able to use for several years.  He had built them and installed the slide out drawers in all of our base cabinets, except under the sink.

Our son had kidney surgery this morning to remove one large and 8 or 9 smaller stones.  The doctor feels he was able to get all the stones.  I spoke with our DIL a few minutes ago and he is in his room for overnight and in quite a lot of pain.  I am sure they will keep him medicated tonight and he expects to be released tomorrow.  It will be two weeks before he will be able to return to work.  Kidney stones have plagued him numerous times over the years and we sure hope this puts an end to them.

Etta Sue, it was 49 degrees here when got home from having lunch out.  I expect it will be really chilly tonight.  I know my electric blanket sure felt good this afternoon as I rested.  Fires are very frightening.  Glad you got positive feedback on your crochet class.

Janet, do you get to keep a copy of the proofs?  Don't forget I am just a phone call away if I can help you with anything about the computer as always glad to be of help.

Carol, I hope Don has identified what dye  they have used so he can let them know not to use the same thing in the future if it bothers him.

Janet

Thanks so much, Larry!  I will call you when I get stuck again.  Curtis (grandson) was able to get me out of the latest problem via phone.  Glad you got the problems with your house repaired/replaced.  Keeping a house in good repair is great, and I really admire you for doing that.

YIPPEE!!!!  I just sent my first edits back to the editor!  I have worked so many hours on it, had problems, fixed problems, made corrections, deletions and additions and hope once she cleans it up and returns it again that I will be able to see what else it needs.  This is quite a journey!  I pray the book is successful in the goals I have for it, and your prayers in that vein are coveted and appreciated.

Our little scrapbooking group is having a tea and I am going to go and celebrate this milestone of my book, along with one of the gals' birthday.  See you later!

Don forwarded this site for Free Church use.  It is in the Kim Komando newsletter he receives and all of her suggestions are reliable.  This is for church presentations:

If this does not open, go to Kim Komando  site for the day - today.

Youngest son just called & he will have two job offers this week so he is very fortunate to not miss a beat after being laid off.  Another son is looking & nothing ---  he is still employed but that may end and there are no raises.

Larry:  Kidney stones are supposed to be very painful.  I hope your son is feeling better today.  In searching his dye allergy or whatever, only one person of scores had the same symptoms.  Also, the dye can give you cancer - isn't that a pickle - you have to have the scan and it can give you cancer.

:coffee:  Sipping my sugar free Hills Bros. cappuccino and we are doing something each day with our stuff in boxes in the basement.   I cleaned my closet and a linen closet as well.  Bought 8 napkins and table mats at an estate sale up the block & also a serving dish that matches my good set of dishes & that was $2.

Just enjoying the beauty outdoors - we are so privileged and so thankful  - great bible study once again today.

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  Just back from coffee on a cool 54 degree morning and the sun just now popped out.  I have nothing on my schedule for today so this should be a very restful and pleasant day.  We haven't heard from our DIL yet as to how our son is this morning.  They removed one large and 8 or 9 smaller kidney stones yesterday and he wasn't feeling very good last night.  He is expecting to be able to go home later today to begin a two week recovery period.  Our daughter is suppose to get her new power chair delivered this afternoon.

Janet, hope your scrapbooking tea is enjoyable and restful for you.  After all the work you have done on the book you need a break.

Carol, do you make your own napkins for table use?  Pat has made many of them and we use some of them daily.  She has also given a lot of them for gifts.

Janet

Yes, Larry, the tea was a lot of fun.  It looked like the gals all tried to outdo each other with fancy foods, and we had a big variety of teas from which to choose.  One member has a big collection of pretty china cups (over 140, she said) teapots (more than 50!) and fancy little spoons.  It's fun to use the pretty things, and I wonder why we don't do this more often at home.  It tends to make even plain foods more enjoyable.  I had snickerdoodles left, so took a plate of those, which were a hit with some.  There are photos on my facebook page, if anybody is interested.  I didn't post them, but our leader did.  ;)

I had a short email from my editor confirming she had received the manuscript and list of captions for the photos and promising a lengthier response today.

I have done household chores and laundry, went for a walk and prayed, watched the 700 Club....now I want to work more on the book!!

Crochet Angels was surprising last evening.  One woman brought her granddaughter who is probably 12 yo.  First, I noticed she was left-handed!  When I told her that I didn't know how to teach left-handed crochet and asked if she could hold the hook in her right hand and learn, she looked shocked.  One gals had left-handed directions so I told April she could learn from that but would have to read to learn.  Next thing I knew she was crying.  Then she left the room!!   :o

She came back and another woman helped her by holding her hook in her left hand and showed her how to do a chain stitch.  But it was too tight.  So I gave her a bigger hook.  A look of horror came on her face!  'What's the matter, April?'   ???  She backed up in her chair and pointed to the hook, saying nothing!   Her grandma said, 'It's pink!  And she can't stand PINK!'  So I gave her another hook!  :-\ I don't know if she will be back or not.

And I am finding the young women wants to do what THEY want to do instead of learning to read the instructions!  Oh, well!

I remembered today I had a pattern for a Thumb and Forefinger Mitten.  There's a place for your thumb, fore-finger and three-fingers.  I love them!  But the pattern was so tiny that I copied the picture and re-typed it on WORD.  I may make some of them for the needy women in Hamilton County!

I was soooo cold last night in bed!  I woke up several times with my feet cold and my nose cold.  So when I changed bed linens today I got out my 'winter' quilt and put on the bed.  Also turned off my heat pump and using the furnace today and tonight!  It feels warmer now...mainly because it is an even heat...all the rooms the same temp.

Not much else planned today other than TV and crocheting!

Raining, windy and only 41°!  Brrrr!  Sounds and looks cold!!

Etta Sue that is sad about the little girl.  We live in an instant gratification society and kids don't know the meaning of starting at the beginning and reading their way through.  With TV and Gamming sights they don't need to read.... Sad.

Etta Sue, I've knitted several of those three-finger mittens.  They're a big hit with hunters.

It sounds as though that 12 year old girl was there because her grandmother wanted her to, not because she wanted to learn.  I don't remember learning to knit or crochet.  My mother claimed I was only about 4 and simply picked it up by watching the girl scouts she was teaching.
