Morning Devotional...

That Name

You have kept my word and have not denied my name (Revelation 3:8, NIV).

Dear friends:

In a previous message, I mentioned the mighty and holy name, "Jesus," that name which is above every name, which every tongue shall confess, and at which every knee shall bow.

Most scholars believe His Hebrew name, the name which Mary and His friends called Him, was Yeshua, meaning salvation. That is what the angel told Joseph to call Him, "because he will save his people from their sins" (Matthew 1:21. NIV). Jesus is an anglicized rendering. But we know that He answers to both!

Have you ever mentioned the name "Jesus" in a secular setting, such as at a social gathering or place of business? If you have, you may have noticed that things get suddenly quiet, or there are other interesting reactions.

A Christian friend was standing in a line at the Post Office recently and struck up a conversation with a man standing in front of him, who began bragging about being a runner. The man said that he runs seven miles a day, and eats only raw fruits and vegetables, especially juices, explaining how the nutrients in the juices go immediately into the system to the cells. He also said that while he ran, he meditated.

"Aha," my friend thought to himself," this is a good opening." He replied to the runner, "On what do you meditate?"

The man said that he was into yoga, but he was unclear as to what he actually meditated on. Perhaps he just caused his mind to go blank, maybe uttering a Hindu yoga chant, opening himself up to demonic influence -- a danger of New Age meditation.

My friend's next words were like a knife slicing the air, and when he spoke, it was like truth and eternity itself suddenly invaded that Post Office. He said, "I meditate on Jesus."

A lady was standing next to them in line, overhearing the conversation. Upon hearing the name of Jesus, she suddenly lit up and smiled, giving an affirming nod, saying, "Yes, that's it." Surprisingly, the man himself seemed suddenly enlightened, agreeing that it was a good idea to meditate on Jesus. I have no doubt that runner will never be the same and, in answer to my friend's prayers, he will finding himself running and thinking about Jesus!

Let us always be ready to inject that powerful name whenever the Holy Spirit gives opportunity.

Yours for helping to fulfill the Great Commission
each year until our Lord returns,

Bill Bright

:)Good morning to all.  I am up very late as I have been away all day singing  with my chorus.  It is so wonderful to be able to praise his Almighty Name with close to 90 other men.  All gospel music and we sing in Capella 4 part harmony.  I have looked at the post's and as always lots to pray about.

Larry:  Great to see that your daughter is getting settled.  Praise the Lord for the strength that he gave to you and your wife.

Janet:  Thank you for the great devotional and be blessed for it.

Colin:  Where are you come back and give us some more beautiful poems.

To all others on C.P.  Have a wonderful and Blessed week.  Love in Christ.  Gord and Noreen. :)

Today is cleaning day again.  I am doing some laundry, I have already dusted.  I need to run the sweeper and make a pumpkin pie.  The rest is just incidental, doing as I see needs to be done.  If it doesn't get done, oh, well.

I acually ended up with 9 for Euchre so I will tell Ivalou that she can stay home and be warm and cozy.

Not too much to say today.  Only 36 degrees!!!!

Hi everyone.  Fall has really arrived in Georgia.  Today the high is suppose to be 58 degrees and we are also having some wind.

Etta Sue, we do have Chili's in our area and I alway like to go there.  I don't remember whether I have had chips and salsa there as I usually have the chili.  However, one time I tried the white chili and didn't care for it at all, certainly not as good as the regular chili.

Today for coffee we had to go to a Waffle House as McDonald's closed their dining room for 3 days to do some remodeling.  The booth held only 4 so we pulled up a chair.  One of the men picked up the check for everyone and my friend Rod was the last to arrive.  He ordered a pecan waffle.  The plate wasn't solidly on the table and when he went to but a piece of it off the plate flipped.  He caught the remainder of the waffle and the plate landed on the floor.  The waitress insisted they give him a new waffle.  However, before they got back he looked down into his lap and fortunately he had placed his newspaper out and the half fold was literally covered with sticky syrup and debris from the waffle.  When his new waffle came one of the men changed places with him so his plate had a solid footing.  We all laughed and laughed as no harm had been done, other than to the newspaper.  You would have to have been there to get the full effect.

Marilyn, glad your family went to the fair with you as sure it made it more enjoyable for you.

Gord, it was our faith that helped us get through all of the turmoil of this summer.  It sounds like you had a great time with your choir.  We had a good sized choir yesterday and sang a truly beautiful and meaningful anthem.

Janet, thanks for the new devotional for this week.

Pat just headed out to WalMart to get a new steam iron.  She plugged hers in yesterday and it wouldn't heat.  With her quilting she uses a steam iron a lot.

Today is my men's luncheon day.  We are trying out a new restaurant that opened about a week ago here in the town where I live.  I hope it will be good.  The housekeeper is suppose to be here around 1 pm today.  After coffee this morning two other men and I went walking at the church gym.  I was able to walk a mile this morning, something I haven't been able to do for a long time.

Marilyn

Good morning everyone, Not much new here so far today, it is still too early.  I didn't go to Tai Chi this morning I am trying to reach the Community action agency to get help with my Power bill this winter. I have been trying for  months and get so frustrated at the constant busy signal and then I have to leave for work about a half and hour into the calling time, but the time I get back it is too later for another week.

I am doing 2 loads of laundry and will bake cookies this afternoon, Keith will be home here on Friday so I like to get my baking  done  early. Wednesday I will bake a Blackberry pie and we will go grocery shopping on Saturday.

Janet:  Thanks for devotions - interesting and thoughtful.

Larry:  Funny morning with that waffle - wiffle waffle.

This is the week that we are dog-sitting.  We sleep overnight and after feeding and putting braces on one dog's two front legs, we head home.  I am a bit sleepy - the dogs decided to just get up and walk around last night...but we had a different dinner than intended.  Here is that story.  I fed the two dogs and Willow gulped hers down so quickly - then Ginger had to be coaxed, spoken softly to and hand fed because she gets timid when anything changes.  While I was fussing with Ginger, I heard a rustling noise & thought it was Don - nope.  It was Willow, and she had found the corned beef I had brought with me and another little bag of the molasses oatmeal bread I had just baked.  She ate everything including most likely some plastic.  Thankfully, she did not get sick - I sent her outdoors a bunch while I found pork chops and green beans to cook for dinnertime.  That dog!  Years ago, she got into visitors suitcase and ate all the chocolate candy.

Things are calm this morning back at our own house for just the daytime & Don is in here measuring and ready to cut boards for the closet that he is making into storage for office supplies.  We can put the vacuum in here as well so it doesn't have to be in the front clothes closet.

Summicron:  You have lots of good advice from everyone and you can find out what you should eat and what you should stay away from probably best get a list from the doctor's office.

It is warming slowly outside and we will walk later.  I have to go to Michaels to get more yarn - am going to start knitting again - they didn't give me my discount yesterday and I don't know how to start this simple scarf.  This week, we have band concert one night and then a dinner club on Wednesday.  The dogs are behaving very well, except for the one that was a piggy last night.

Marilyn:  Good luck with getting through on the phone!  Mmmmmm Blackberry pie - I'm coming!

melody

Good day to everyone.
It is a beautiful sunny day here so I figured I would get a good walk in .
Trying to figure what to cook for my supper-maybe homemade spaghetti.
God bless all. <3

I got my cookies baked and walked the dogs this afternoon. I was trying to down load a different firewall and it  took out MSN messenger I had a heck of a time getting it all straightened out and getting messenger working again. Needless to say I  uninstalled that firewall. I only have a few days left on the Window Live One and I would love to keep it but right now I can't afford it.

Larry can you recommend a good free firewall? It was Commodo that took out my MSN, I had Commodo before and it didn't  do that.

Wow Colin snow already. We haven't had any snow yet but it won't be long now.
Marylin , I use avast free anti virus and zone alarm free firewall. I find them both good
I like the devotional .

We have snow again here in the north.  I really dread winter.  Went down to the furnace to light the fire and it was out cold.  So a start from scratch.  Thankfully we had lots of blankets during the night.

People know you are prayed for.  There are so many needs that are expressed and not expressed here on CP, that I am feeling a special burden to pray at night.  So know you all are prayed for.

Elizabeth has a field trip to an outdoor center today.  Sure hope she has dressed warmly enough.

Must go have a great blessed day.

Carol

Snow - We can see snow any month of the year - that is in the mountains.   :coffee:

JudyB:  Thanks for praying for everyone.  That is so kind of you.  I am sorry that you are having glitches with that furnace.

;)  Hello Melody!  Looking to my left - there you are waving the Good Morning Sign - you will tire your arms out doing this all day.

Time for a walk.

Marilyn
:  Taking care of the dogs has been so funny - they get a bone at 8 PM and at 7:59, they were "in my face" waiting for that bone.  All the sighing and moaning to get their way - it is just so funny.

Don is at a meeting and I think it has warmed up enough for me to take a walk.  I had to drive straight into the morning sun today.

Etta Sue

Speaking of animals.  I shut down the laptop before going to bed.  It makes a little bell ringing noise when it shuts down.  Inky hears it and knows she is going to get fed soon.  Last night she was even in another room and hear the little bell ringing.  Here she came a-running, when in a circle and off to the utility room to be fed!!!  They used to do that when the TV was shut off but now it is the little bell ringing.  Cute.

I am all ready for another day of Euchre.  I will be glad when it is over and I can relax until the next big thing comes along.

When I got up this morning, it was 31.6°!!!!!!  A little warmer now.  I have turned up the furnace for company.  I don't need it that warm but company might.

Off I go to see if there is anything else to do.

Oh yes animals are funny. When I drive up to take the lady and her dogs for a walk one is at the window waiting for me to get out of the car and runs to the door and If I don't leave the back door on the car open she runs back to me and started "telling" me to open the door. the other dog always waits for the lady and  keeps telling her to hurry  up. If I am late getting there they wait by the window  to see if I am there yet.

I am baking the pie when I get home from work today. My friend Willa gave me a jar of Raspberry  freezer jam this morning, mmmmm it sure is good.

Hi everyone.  It is really chilly here today.  We went to Waffle House for coffee and their heat wasn't working and the air conditioner seemed to have been on.  I just got back from a meeting and it was rather cool in the meeting room.  Soon I will get under my electric blanket and warm up for the afternoon.

Today is a preparatory day for me for that test we all dread but which is very important.  The test will be over by noon tomorrow.  They called earlier this morning to remind me I had a $75 co-pay since I have to have this done at the day surgery center due to the pacemaker/defibulator.  They have to use a special magnet on the device to protect things from electrical shock.  Fortunately I will be unconscious during the procedure.

Marilyn, I have used the free Zone Alarm as the firewall on several computers.  Currently I am using the OneCare Microsoft program and plan to continue with it next year.

Pat

Thinking of you tomorrow, Larry.

Hope I don't have to have that done.  Did a preparatory one that if it comes up positive, then I'll have your kind.  :(

Good afternoon.  It is also very cool and very windy up here in Welland Ontario. Canada.  I am about to go out and get cold as I have to get our garden furniture  put away.  I just keep putting it of but cannot do that any longer.

Larry:  Hope all goes well on the test.  I am also doing some my self as the doctor is doing a full medical.  ;)

To all others keep warm and stay healthy.  :coffee:

Pat:  How you doing Sis.

Pretty good, bro!

I have some furniture to put away too.  And my umbrella.  It's too cold though!  And we're getting snow tonight!  :(

I think y'all oughta come live in California.  It's way above freezing here.  Not hot, but pretty livable.  Never snows here.  Lots of fog, but that's the worst we get.

Marilyn

Al it snowed early this year. January.  at  least it doesn't now often and it hardly ever sticks.

I love freezer jam.  I'm eating some strawberry freezer jam from two years ago.  I thought I was going to have to throw it out but there's nothing wrong with it so it's not going in the trash.

Marilyn - we have snow so seldom here that whenever 5 or 6 flakes come down in an hour people say, "It's snowing!"
