That toad sure has a bright eye! He's not missing anything. ;D
We love toads. Dad had one that returned to his garden many times, he was a big boy.

Many years ago, when Mrs. Barbarian and I were finishing college, we lived in student housing with our two boys. In the center of the patio was a large hole in the concrete for a clothesline pole, and in it lived a large toad. Sean called it "frog", and when we drained the wading pool, it would hop out as water ran into the hole. But it always came back. Sean never touched it, but often it would be out and he would watch it.
That year, my sister had a toad that got into her basement. She couldn't find it, but she could hear it. Sean (four years old then) suggested putting another toad in the basement to see if they'd communicate. She tried it, and in short order, the other toad appeared. We still laugh about that.
Toads are friendly creatures.
Toads are a cool addiiton to the garden. If i find one I stick him in mine. Usually you can find one under one of my rocks...
