Title: Young Mourning Doves
Post by: Pat on August 02, 2014, 02:35:16 PM

First to Leave the Nest

Mourning Dove
First to leave the nest! This dove was very near to my door so I went outside and spoke to it and took several photos and she/he didn't move. Stayed for over an hour.

Two more getting ready to leave. The nest is buried deep inside my apple tree so the best I could get of the nest. Mum and Dad Mourning Dove were very close by hoo-ing away as I snapped these.

Very nice job, Pat.

My yard isn't a good yard for young birds.  My dog likes to try and catch them.  He has caught a few and he isn't very nice to them.

Nice clear shots, Pat.  The only ones I've had around here are catbirds and bluebirds.

The catbirds were in the honeysuckle fine fine on the trellis just outside my window and the only view of the nest was from inside - totally invisible from outside.  Great for watching, but not very good for photos,

The bluebirds were in the closed bluebird nesting box and the babies didn't hang around long enough for photos once they came out.
