Title: First sign of spring,
Post by: Don on January 08, 2009, 05:41:42 PM
or wishfull thinking? Daffodils seem to show themselves earlier each year around here. We will probably see ice or maybe some snow on these before they are gone.

We have trees budding out here, and they are way too early.

Are they in a sheltered spot?  Oh the beauty of Daffodils in the early spring to break the monotony of white!

As I left for Iowa Friday, I saw the first green shoots of daffodils in the flowerbed.  Let's see some daffodil pictures when they come.

No they are not Judy. The weather has been so mild and seems to get milder each winter.

I'll try and post some but we are going to have to wait for a while. They are on hold right now.

13 days later.

Don, I know nothing about snow.  Will they hold up and bloom anyway?

I saw some yesterday that have held even with our temperatures in the 'teens.  That is low for us here.

Oh yes they can take it. Our low was 9.4° and they look fine.

I just shot this.

That's something, Don!  Keep us posted on how these daffs do.  They are one of my favourite spring flowers!

I imagine the ones in our Guelph garden are as snug as a bug in the garden buried under a few feet of snow!  HAHAHA!  They won't appear until March sometime!

I'll do that Judy. It was back up to 70° today so they should be thawed out. Crazy weather.

Everything is coated in ice up here in Washington, DC area, Don.  I just put the dog out for his last time tonight and he couldn't stand up!  :(

Have you called your neighbor, Al Gore, about this?

LOL you are too funny.  Your weather is as unperdictable as ours.

It will be so nice to have everything warm and blooming again.  This winter has been enough.

Oh, my!

I arrived home late last night to about 2 1/2 feet of snow all over my property.  What a lot we've had this year.

No sign of any spring growth here.

I think any self respecting plants are growing in the opposite direction here. Last night it was -15. Right now (4:06AM) it's 1.

Wow and we are sitting in 2 feet of snow with more coming down.  We can expect snow till the end of April..... That is the only downfall to living in the north.
