Title: New camera - Canon 5D
Post by: Andy_Sorensen on March 04, 2008, 05:31:13 AM
Took the plunge and ordered a new camera today.  Looking forward to this one.  I've got a Canon 5D on it's way, with a 580EX flash and a lens as well, the 24-105mm IS L.  I've used the original Canon digital Rebel (300D) for years.  But a recent accident left it without any external flash capabilities, and a broken Canon 380EX flash.  It was time to do an upgrade, and certainly should be a major improvement over what I've worked with in the past.  I'm pleased with what the old 300D was able to do, and I'll keep it for other work that doesn't require a flash, like this gallery from 2005 (http://ajstudio.smugmug.com/gallery/573977_JUsPw#24207893) where I wouldn't want to subject a $2000 camera body to the chance of a dunking.

Anyone here have the 5D or had a chance to work with one?

Oh, I certainly eye-balled the 5D for a long time.  But I eventually went with the 40D for a number or reasons.  It just seemed to suit my needs, wants and budget.  And since I do very little landscape photography, and quite a bit bird and bug shooting, I kinda like the 1.6x crop factor.

I have friends who own the 5D and love it, and I'm sure you'll love yours, too.

Gripped,
Kevin

I wish you well, Andy, with your new camera!  I have the Nikon D80 so have no idea about yours but I'm sure that we're going to see some fantastic work from it!
