How to Use This Board (http://www.christianphotographers.com/community/index.php?topic=5279.0)
Here's our
Nineteenth Challenge for you all.
T R E E S
Details: - This topic was chosen by Nita who won our last Challenge. The subject of the next Mini Challenge is TREES. Nita says, "I've always been friends with trees. :) God has made so many different varieties, each with their own beauty.
Tall pines, spreading willows, small compact friendly trees; which is your favorite? Flowering trees? Evergreen? Take a photo of trees, or one tree, or any part of a tree. I'm looking forward to seeing "your" TREES."
- Use the attachment feature to show your photos (see directions above in the link to "How to Use This Board") in your post or link to them from your gallery or an offsite location that allows linking using the image codes. If you have trouble, please contact a moderator (name in blue) or an administrator (name in red) and we'll help you post your photo. If you have your photo in your gallery, please don't use the attachment feature as that puts the photo on our server twice but rather link to it. It's best if your photos are at least 500 pixels wide so that they are easily seen.
- Please upload up to 4 entries per member for this challenge.
- The challenge is open now and will be closed to uploads on April 24, 2008 and then we'll vote on them.
- Please tell us the camera you used to take your photo and when you took it. Please only enter photos taken by you.
- Please put a title above your photo. We need the title for the poll listing.
- Of course, we're going to see who is posting the photos so this is not an anonymous challenge. So start posting. Click on the "Reply" button below and start this challenge!
Remember, this is a fun project!
Trees is a great subject to photograph, one of my favourites. So now I present to you my 4 entries:
"Orange Leaves"

Photograph taken with a Canon Digital Ixus 60, in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada, on 6 Oct 2007. For this I used a selective colour setting, so that it was set to only pick up orange colours and everything else appears in monochrome.
"Bark shedding"

I think the stick things on the candle holder are supposed to be trees.

I honestly don't remember if this was taken with my rebel or sony 707 (I suspect the sony due to the file name)

TheTitle of this picture is "Facing the Tree." Recently we were visiting with our Bird Club founder in his new home in the North Georgia Mountains. He had climbed a tall ladder and put the faces on the tree. :thumbsup:I though it was a very good job. I took the picture with my D70S Digital camera. The picture is from this past Saturday in Tiger, Georgia. The settings were Automatic-shutter Priority.

The Name of this entry is Mill framed by Golden Trees. I took this picture at Babcock State Park in West Virginia. I used a Nikon 6006 SLR camera with a Tamron 28-200 F.56 Lense.

Okay, legitimate photos of actual trees this time, no pets named "Trees" (not that I have any).
Its not really the right time of year here in Denver to shoot trees, so I'll pull from the archives for this one.
The first one I'll load is of Aspen trees in the fall here in the mountains of Colorado. I shot this for one of my calendars, although it didn't make the cut for editing down to 13 images. I had a few people comment on my shooting as they passed by me. They didn't quite understand why I was using B&W for such a colorful shot. It was too hard to explain what Infrared film does, so I just carry a sample with me.
Anyway, here's my first challenge entry. Its called "Carson Wagon Road".
Thanks for lookin'
~Vic~
Nikon FE2, and Kodak HIE infrared film

This one was shot for a developer who wanted to have pretty pictures of a very flat reservoir they were building next to. They didn't pick this one, something about showing "dead trees" on their brochure. The fisherman out there would have definitely approved! :D
This one is called "Beacon Point". Its the name of the development.
~V~
Mamiya 645AFD with a Phase One P25 digital back
[attachimg=#]
Last one for now, although there's another I may post later.
This one is one of my favorites from my trips to India. This road is the one that goes out to our school from the town we stay in. Its about 25 miles from the hotel. There are closer hotels, but no modern ones. The guys were all for staying in the closer ones, but the ladies put their feet down. Either way, it works.
Most of these trees are all gone now. This highway is one of the most dangerous in India. Part of the problem is the amount of traffic for such a narrow road. As such, it is being widened, and most of the trees are coming down. It will definitely save lives, but the beauty is now gone.
This image is title "Lucknow to Faizibad".
Enjoy.

Bird in a Tree
I saw this dove-like bird sitting in a tree on the hillside in back of our home. It was taken last August with my Canon S3 IS.

There are a lot of Beautiful Trees. But this one is the most beautiful to me. It's Calvary's Tree. The Crosses were among some beautiful Fall Trees close to Charleston, West Virginia. I took the picture in the mid 1990's. The camera was a Nikon 6006 SLR and the Lense was a Tamron 28-200 5.6. I used the Automatic Setting on the camera. The title is The Greatest Tree. :thumbsup2:

There are a lot of Beautiful places in the Smokey Mountains. This is one of my favorite spots. It's located between Gatlingburg, Tennessee and Cherokee, N. C. I just call this "Smokey Mountain Trees." The picture was taken in 2001 with a Nikon 6006 Slr Camera and a Tamron 28-200 5.6 Lense on Autumatic setting.

I found this old photo on my computer, so added my sentiments. This was taken with my old Olympus C720Z. I absolutely loved this upward view of some tree tops. The tiny leaves remind me of stars. :) I call it IN AWE.

Photoghaphed close to home, the sun was filtering down through the woods, just illuminating this twisted tree trunk almost leaning on its neighbour. I think I'll do this one as a picture with scripture. Guess what scripture?

"Natural Welcome"
I took this at my brother in law's wedding last April, with my Canon EOS 20D.
I'm a little frustrated (okay a lot :ticked:) because The colors shifted when I uploaded to my website, which usually doesn't happen. It should be much brighter green as it was in reality, so I'm going to post the small one for color and the larger so you can actually see it better. (if I can get THAT to work) Okay, it didn't work. And, I don't know how to delete the attachment, now. Oh well.
Anyway, I love the peacefulness of this scene. I was going to call it Heaven's Gate, but the subject of this contest is supposed to be trees, so...
it's now Natural Welcome.
[attachimg=#]
"Dreamy Trees"
I took this with my Canon 20D, too. This was taken in October of 2006. My hubby got up before dawn with me and drove about an hour away to get this warm morning lighting.

"Under the Palm Tree"
I took this one with my Canon EOS 20D, too. Palm trees are one of the things I miss since moving away from Socal. (Southern California) I took this on my last trip down there in April 2007.
(https://www.christianphotographers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fshekinahphotography.smugmug.com%2Fphotos%2F254028101_9dX5x-M.jpg&hash=df60d0b5c98e0317138163501aee4acae66895cc)
"Skyward"
Okay, I'm going to try the attachment thing again...
I took this one in North Carolina a couple of years ago with my Canon EOS 20D. Fall is my favorite season and I was so happy to be there when there were still leaves on the trees.

They are now, Kathleen.
Thanks!
I'm finding this challenge difficult to vote in!
Are you all? There are so many great photos!
Hard one for me, too.
I really liked shutterbugmom's "natural welcome" thought the title really fit the picture......yep she got my vote. :)
Well, I'm going to take my time this time for sure. Each time I come to look at the entries, I see another "really good one"! Must pick my TEN!!!
Someone's deleted my photograph, its listed but the pictures gone, and it ain't me.

It's showin' up fine here...but maybe I'm coming in after it's been fixed, so...
This is the hardest challenge yet in which to make choices! Can I vote for 20?
I surely know what you mean, Al.... How about "all of the above"? :D
Well, I've already voted, but It was really hard. Actually, I mistakenly voted for more than 10 and was finally satisfied, but got the message I over-voted and had to go back.
I'm so impressed with all of the quality submissions!
Jane, I didn't see mine either, in the challenge photos, but wasn't going to say anything. lol I was just wondering how I'd gotten one vote ( 1 at the time I noticed I wasn't there)when it wasn't there to be viewed. Since I had won the last one, I figured no big deal. But........thank you for noticing and commenting on it. Nita
I (finally) voted, too. Nita, I looked and looked ... saw yours listed but not the photo ... then eventually it was there again! Guess it just hadn't been transferred yet. :-\
I believe you all worked the bugs out, by now!!
4 Photo's per person: they've ganged up on us: LOL.
How do you expect us to just vote for ten, when.......:
Okay, I voted for ten: although I listed about 15 of them.

Awe, gee, thanks canonman!
I finally voted, too, but boy oh boy was it a hard decision! I kept putting it off cause I didn't want to decide, but I finally did it! Yeah!
I have the Canon 20D to i used it an a 70-200mm 2.8 IS to do mine.
A hard decision for sure .... I had a list and had to keep paring it down until I came up with just ten .... Every entry is super and made it especially difficult to decide. It will be interesting to learn the winners.
I wonder if fotobirder is back yet. He was going away to Arkansas during the voting.
Anyone know?
Don't know.

Congratulations Everyone!
Great image, Karma. Now we await to hear what the next topic will be, so would you please send me a Personal Message with the topic of the next challenge. Please send a little description of how you want the title interpreted.
CONGRATULATIONS !!!
All y'all did such a fantastic job in this challange it was extremely difficult to choose. (I think I did okay with voting for at least half of the final winners. :))
All y'all are winners in my book! Congratulations to each of you.
I think I did ok too Jane but I've never had such a difficult time! They were all so good.
Congratulations, Karma! You can't beat that scenery!!
I can't believe my 'Twirled' got a third again! 'Twirled' is now hanging in Ivalou's bedroom. I gave it to her since it is her tree in the backyard and she was re-doing her spare bedroom!
Thanks to everyone for voting!
Congratulations to all! Your photos are stunning, pointing to a beautiful Creator!!!
I am new to the forum and am looking forward to participating more. :) The new challenge will be a lot of fun!
Blessings in Christ,
Jocelyn
Jocelyn, great to see your post. Looking forward to your entering our next challenge! We all enjoy this fun!
God bless!
Congratulations, Karma on your winning photo. It is a textbook shot!
It is very encouraging to have a couple of my photos place. Congratulations to all!
In His Grip,
Kevin
Congratulations Karma and the others of you as well. I think all of those were winners--really a hard challenge to vote for, so many exceptional ones.
Now.........black and white? Hmmm....much harder to enter; at least for me.
Very well done, that's some colour out there and its nicely balanced by the bushes in the foreground, it seems that a polarizing filter has livened up the colours to spectacular proportions, and you got to the right spot at the time of peak colour.
Congratulations to the winners. It was hard to decide for whom to vote as there were so many beautiful pictures. It is hard to have a bad photo when the focus is on God's creation such as trees and natural plants.
Congratulations to Karma and all of the other winners. Some fantastic entries on this one.
I think our challenges just get better and better, but that makes it harder to choose. :)
Congratulations Karma and to all the winners of the "tree" challenge!
It was so nice, yet hard, having so many wonderful entries to choose from.
Ooh, black and white next. That will be awesome. Great idea, Karma!
I have a question. I subscribed to the e-mail thing that e-mails me everytime someone replies to the Trees thread. I cannot figure out how to unsubscribe, or to subscribe to the B&W thread. Could someone explain that to me?
Thanks.
Gabe~While you are in the B&W discussion just click on the "notify" button at the bottom and you will be notified of any replies on that forum. You can, in the same fashion, click on that button in the TREES forum and disable the notification. Clear as mud? Well, try it and you'll get it. ;)
You probably won't get many more for the Trees topic, Gabe. So, I'd just let it go off into cyberspace! :)
Thank you all.
