How to Use This Board (http://www.christianphotographers.com/community/index.php?topic=5279.0)
Here's our
31st Challenge for you all.
"B I R D S"
(https://www.christianphotographers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.photography-cafe.com%2Fforum%2FSmileys%2Falive%2Fpuffin_flying.gif&hash=608dcd050f2cc67a5fd855ad2ff3ee88b57a5b50) (https://www.christianphotographers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.photography-cafe.com%2Fforum%2FSmileys%2Falive%2Fpuffin_flying.gif&hash=608dcd050f2cc67a5fd855ad2ff3ee88b57a5b50) (https://www.christianphotographers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.photography-cafe.com%2Fforum%2FSmileys%2Falive%2Fpuffin_flying.gif&hash=608dcd050f2cc67a5fd855ad2ff3ee88b57a5b50)
Details: - This topic was chosen by Sarge, who won our last Challenge. The subject of the next Mini Challenge is "BIRDS". Sarge says, "Let's see lots of birds."
- Only bird pictures taken in the wild, not in cages/aviaries
- Bird pictures can be taken whenever you want, now or in the past.
- Birds in flight are accepted as well.
- No people in the photos or animals please, just the bird.
- Use the attachment feature to show your photos (see directions above in the link to "How to Use This Board") in your post or link to them from your gallery or an offsite location that allows linking using the image codes. If you have trouble, please contact a moderator (name in blue) or an administrator (name in red) and we'll help you post your photo. If you have your photo in your gallery, please don't use the attachment feature as that puts the photo on our server twice but rather link to it. It's best if your photos are at least 500 to 600 pixels wide so that they are easily seen.
- Please upload up to 4 entries per member for this challenge.
- The challenge is open now and will be closed to uploads on April 19, 2009 and then we'll vote on them.
- Please tell us the camera you used to take your photo and when you took it. Please only enter photos taken by you.
- Please put a short title above your photo. We need the title for the poll listing. If you want to tell us a bit about your photos, please do that in a separate post so that every post ONLY has the Title and then the Photo and that's all.
- Please post only one entry per post. .
- Of course, we're going to see who is posting the photos so this is not an anonymous challenge. So start posting. Click on the "Reply" button below and start this challenge!
Remember, this is a fun project!
Just a reminder of the details above (to make it easier for the moderators looking after the challenge), please post what camera you used to take the photo
UNDER your photo.
Post a Title (that we will use in the poll)
ABOVE your photo.
Tell us a bit about your photo in a new post so that when voting time comes along, we only have:

Salt is a white egret, who usually works the opposite side of the lake from Pepper. He's gotten used to me, too. This morning I was walking Bagel, and he was flying over the lake. Then, he banked toward me, flew by just a few yards away, checking me out, and then landed on the shore about 15 yards from where I was, and began hunting.
Just a really friendly reminder...
So that all entries have only a title, the camera used and the photo, PLEASE add another post to tell us a bit about the photo so that before voting starts, we'll move them to another topic.
Please continue to tell us about the photo, etc. but in a separate post.
So, put a short title above your photos (Don will add that title to the poll) and then post your photo and then below the photo, put your camera used.
Thanks so much. It just means that all the entries are the same when the voting starts.
Hope we get 100 in this challenge!!! :)
Duck Family
[attachimg=#]
We were camping down in Mississippi and we had seen this mamma duck sitting on her nest just the day before. Today they were one happy family.
Heron searching for dinner.
[attachimg=#]
This image was taken in a salt marsh along the Jersey shore. But it could have been anywhere. Herons are popular because they are everywhere and they stand still while they are look for for that tasty minnow or crawfish.
This image is a favorite because it was a little out of focus. But I used software to "soften" the image.

Long Neck Pelican.
[attachimg=#]
It also appears that pelicans are a popular subject.
I think that is because they are sociable birds and they don't seem to mind people. This pelican was sitting on a guard rail on a fishing dock. I think they also like to steal bait where ever the opportunity presents itself. And he was watching carefully.
Doug Haas
Lazy Gull
[attachimg=#]
This gull looks dumb and happy. The world is rushing by, but he doesn't seem to mind. Not a care in the world.
What I like are the splashes of color in the background, provided by bright wild flowers.

P.S. Sorry I missed the last "landscape" challenge. I went out and took some pictures, but then got too busy to upload the,. That is too busy.

CLOSED TO UPLOADS NOW!!!
What a wonderful challenge this has been.
In order to have a shorter list to vote in, we're asking you to vote for your top TWENTY-FIVE (25) choices in the poll. Take your time.
Then Don and I will make another poll in FIVE days of the top 25 choices and then we'll vote on our favorite FIVE from that second list in order to come up with the winner of this fantastic challenge.
It's been lovely to see all these birds from all over the world, hasn't it? What a mighty God we adore! And He's created all of these beautiful birds for us to enjoy!
It's going to be sad to see some of the photos left off but guess we all knew that everyone can't be a winner! ;)
So, now, on with the voting!
I have removed all posts that do not have an entry in them so that you won't have to scroll through "chatter".
All of those posts are in their own topic here:
http://www.christianphotographers.com/community/index.php?topic=8228.0
BUT... you can post in here how you are feeling about this voting job now as these posts won't be intermingled with the entries above.
I haven't voted yet but it's going to be difficult for sure! I'm just going to make a list on my Notepad and start to rule out some and keep some, etc.
I'm so enjoying looking at the photos though. You've all outdone yourself!
Voting is going well--to start!
I think we had over 35 people enter this challenge so we better have over 35 folks vote pretty soon! :)
Have you voted?
Tell us here if you think that this was an easy task!

You're kidding, of course. :o
O, I love your signature verse Jane, with our permission I would love to pass it on.
Abby
whoops...sorry-I dont know how I missed the complete instructions for entering-I entered 5...I would like the 'titmouse' deleted please...Sorry for the incoinvenience....I was going thru the pics to vote and found them, I was wondering about that before...
Definitely difficult choices-They all are lovely birds!!!
I know don't u just love Jane's signature. I have that on another forum/community site as a fill in...I fell in love with that because I grew up with the rain! Actually we are having lots a rain today, so clean and refreshing!!!
It was about as easy as having a Tooth pulled. :bash: I thought I had it figured out. But after I counted them it was more like 35. That means I had to cut the list and decide the 10 I wanted to drop. :anon: :anon: I fiannly decided to best way to vote was by casting Lots. :roflBig: NOT! But it was hard to just choose 25. Good voting and may all have a blessed day.
Steve
I wanted to vote for all of them! What a time I had narrowing it down to 25. And I don't imagine choosing 5 out of the final 25 will be any easier. :(
Only two more days to vote in this preliminary vote, folks!
Have YOU voted?
Juts wanted to mention that Juanital has 5 entries and all of them have votes. I believe she asked for the Titmouse to be deleted but it wasn't. My suggestion is for all who voted for the Titmouse to take that vote back and vote for another choice. Only a suggestion.
Have a blessed day
Steve
I've removed Juanita's photo now.
Thanks pat. Now if you would remove your's I would be most grateful. ;D The Look on the Junco's face is worth a million bucks. It would be a great picture for an Advertisement. Now , on with the competition.
Steve
Well, I voted. But I didn't really want to! The ones I didn't vote for made me feel guilty - they were so good!
Does voting close the 23rd. or the 25th? I'm on vacation and don't know how often I'll have internet. Last time I did, I posted my images and I will try to vote tonight since I may not have internet before the deadline.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh! Now my website is down and my images aren't showing up! Oh well. Nothing I can do from out of town. I only have my Osprey photo on my laptop. (took it the other day on my trip and barely got it uploaded before the deadline. Hopefully they will fix the problem sometime soon.
Hi Kathleen!
Up at the top of the poll it says, "(Voting closes: April 25, 2009, 04:23:49 PM)" so we'll go with that date to close this poll and then we'll open the other.
When will you be home?
I see your photos by the way. ;)

Hi Pat!
The 25th. is great, in fact that's my birthday! :) I just wanted to clarify because you were saying we only had two days left to vote and today's the 21st. Hopefully, everyone will vote by then.
We will be home on the 26th. but right now Paul and I are travelling around our beautiful state of Idaho for a late 20th. anniversary trip. We are having a blast! So many gorgeous scenes to try to capture. God is so awesome! This morning I was standing by a lake after sunrise and I heard the wings of an Osprey as he flew up behind and right over my head carrying a fish! I didn't get the shot as it all happened so fast. Well, I did get off two shots, but my AF failed me. (another reason to upgrade my camera) I was bummed to not get a great shot, but more than that...it is a sound and experience I will never forget.
Thanks for letting me know you can see my photos. I took the Osprey on our trip this week. :)
:)
I have voted and did vote for the titmouse. I am sorry that one was removed. What difficulty I had voting. They are all so good.
I voted! Boy, that was tough. So many wonderful images of birds. A nice variety, too. God is so creative!
Don't know what happened, but I noticed that my "Gull" image was left off the list for people to vote for... :'(
Ohhh, Kathleen!
I'm so sorry! Just for that, we'll make sure that it's on the final list for voting.
Poor Don had so many to deal with. This has been absolutely the largest challenge ever on this site!
So glad you got to vote!
Oh, thanks Pat! ;D I do understand, though, this was a challenge with a ton of entries. Thanks, Don, for all your hard work on it. :)
Wow. There are so many great shots, it's intimidating. It's amazing at all the talent we have posting here. I had to really work at cutting it down to 25.
Hurry folks! Get those first round votes in today!! :pine:
Well, folks!
What a very, very difficult job!
I've made a list that I'm going to talk over with Don. This list has all entries with NINE (9) votes and higher on it.
Oh, so many wonderful images that got 8 or below! But how difficult to vote on such a huge list so we'll make another poll and we will have about 30 or 31 on it. (I just forget)
Whoops, I just dropped in to vote but it's closed already.
Well, I'll try to be sure vote in time on the finalists. :)
You'll notice many images missing folks.
I've moved all of the entries that had 9 or more votes and I'm working on a topic where we'll vote.
Be patient... it won't be long!
It's been a very difficult procedure too to leave out some of these fantastic bird pictures.
Pat, I can't find the challenge photos to view before I vote. I found the list of them but not the photos. :idiot:
Kathy, the challenge "Birds" has been closed. We're now voting on Challenge #32 and you can find the list and all the photos HERE (http://www.christianphotographers.com/community/index.php?topic=8426.0)
Thank you Jeanne Lee, I found the correct one and voted. :)
