Title: Conversations Re: Mini Challenge #93~CREATIVE LIGHTING
Post by: LaughingPeppers on May 01, 2015, 07:27:57 PM
Thank you Jeanne for announcing my theme suggestion for 93rd Mini Challenge. I would like to add that this theme is more about the photographer's approach to the subject rather than the subject itself.

To explain it further, I would like to use the photo of The Old Knocker (that I posted on the last Mini Challenge) to illustrate creative lighting. If I chose to shoot the same subject on a cloudy day, it would have looked just another shot. But because of the harsh afternoon sunlight, the shadows it created, exaggerated the age of the door and the old paint peeling off the surface. In other words, by playing with the light, I was able to put more emphasis on the "Texture" that Shutterbug Mom was looking for in the last challenge.

I hope this illustration triggers the artist in all of you. Let's get creative and play with the light. Game on!!

I thought I would miss this Challenge. But it was so interesting that I decide to enter even though I won't be here to vote or probably see the Winners. Good Job Laughing Peppers.

QuoteThis photo may be outside the scope of Mario's topic, if so, I apologize.  The setting was compelling in that there was a full moon lighting up the clouds and casting ample light across the locomotive shop area of the former GN Railway at Havre, MT.  Wanting the yard lights to show star patterns, I stopped down to f/11 for a one second exposure. The end result was better than I thought possible in that situation

Hi Ken, my eyes tell me you are right on the scope of the theme. No need to apologize. I see creative lighting in all your entries. And besides, everyone is entitled to his/her own interpretation of the theme. Free spirit and creativity come hand in hand.

Thank you for educating us about sundogs. I have seen them and have photographed them, without knowing that there is a name for them. Now I know.

Beautiful Entries!! To all those who participated, Thank you all for your Creative Lighting shots. I really enjoyed looking at them. I am sure voters will have another headache in choosing their picks.
