Mini Challenge #70

"Preparing for Winter"

Details:

  • This topic was chosen by JudyB, who won our  last Challenge.

What a wonderful variety of subjects this offers!  Thank you Judy for suggesting this new topic!

Please read carefully the "Details" about what is expected, and the rules for posting your photos.

    Details as described by Judy:
"This is not scenery pictures unless it shows animals preparing for winter, not people unless it shows preparpation for winter, indoors or out, and no previously used pictures from other challenges."

Let's encourage folks by letting them know we're enjoying their entries.

  • Use the attachment feature to show your photos (see directions above in the link to "How to Use This Board") in your post or link to them from your gallery or an offsite location that allows linking using the image codes.  If you have trouble, please contact a moderator (name in blue) or an administrator (name in red) and we'll help you post your photo.    It's best if your photos are at least 500 to 600 pixels wide so that they are easily seen.  Please keep your photos under 175 KB in size.

  • If you have your photo in your gallery, please don't use the attachment feature as that puts the photo on our server twice but rather link to it.  Instructions for doing this are in the "How to" section.  CLICK HERE (http://www.christianphotographers.com/community/index.php?topic=9255.msg141517#msg141517)  If you need any help, please contact a moderator (name in blue) or an administrator (name in red) and we'll help you post your photo.

  • Please upload up to 4 entries per member for this challenge.

  • The challenge is open now and will be closed to uploads on November 8, 2012   and then we'll vote on them.

  • Please tell us the camera you used to take your photo and when you took it.  Please only enter photos taken by you.

  • Please put a short title above your photo.  We need the title for the poll listing.  If you want to tell us a bit about your photos, please put it below your picture.

  • Please post only one entry per post/message.

  • Of course, we're going to see who is posting the photos so this is not an anonymous challenge.  So start posting.  Click on the "Reply" button below and start this challenge!

Let's ALSO NOT put any photos in this challenge labelled "NOT AN ENTRY" or anything that is not to be voted on.

Remember, this is a fun project!

This Black Bear is chowing down on Acorns to build up reserves before the Winter Hibernation period begins. This photo was taken at Cades Cove in the Smoky Mountains National Park in Late October.

Hummingbirds

[attachimg=1]

Hummingbirds have to build up Reserves to fly about 5,000 miles to their Wintering grounds. The Families still have the first year Birds with them but have to make them fend for themselves so they can find a mate or mate again successfully. I was able to catch this action. Dad ran off every Hummingbird but was very gentle to this one.  But he knew the little fellow had to make it on his own.

Once it started to snow, my husband thought it was time to take the last boat out of the water and winterize it.

Stocking Up

(https://www.christianphotographers.com/community/d/10630-1/Stocking-Up.jpg) (http://www.christianphotographers.com/community/v/Betty/Stocking-Up.jpg.html)

The black-capped chickadees are stocking up for the winter. They hide the sunflower seeds in an area of about a half-mile range, and when there are no seeds around, they go back to their caches. Apparently they can remember where these are up to about a month or so.

They are becoming very "tame" and will eat out of my hand.
