Someone called me up today, and told me that they were from my electrical power company, and that they were going to shut off the power today at 5:00.
He said we had sent in the payment, but they were unable to process the check because their systems were down and they needed a payment in cash only. I was to go to a store, get a PayPal card, and call them back for instructions.
So I played along, pretending to go to the store. They called me several times, last time with a "supervisor." I made a quick check with my real company to make sure that everything was all right, and then I engaged the "supervisor" long enough to confirm that she was indeed in Dallas, or at least knew it well.
Didn't call the number though. I thought maybe they had a way of routing the call out to some other country with huge tolls.
Not sure. I'm passing the information on to the AG. It was kind of fun when I let the "supervisor" know what I had done. She wasn't very nice after that.
Be warned.
We have had computer scams going here in Ontario. Some one saying we have a problem with our computer. I called the Canadian Fraud line and was told to answer "What Computer?" I can do that as I have 2 so the question is what computer are you talking about. I get their number and forward it to the fraud ppl.
