The automatic light on my 24/7 flag pole often draws moths and other insects. This morning I found a couple new ones.
I've never seen this coloring.

And this one looks ferocious. I'm just glad he's only about an inch long and not really the size of this photo. ;)

I believe the second one is a white ermine moth. Not sure about the first. It is fun to see what the lights bring in!
That does look like ermine. Thanks, Ken. I've never seen either of these before and I have no knowledge about them at all.
My father made an extensive study of moths and butterflies and would probably have been able to identify both of them in an instant. But he's no longer around to ask.
The first one might be a rosy maple moth. I don't know moths at all, but tried the Internet. This seemed to be a good site: http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/species/Dryocampa-rubicunda
I'd like to see one. Could you send it up my way?
I'll try blowing it in your direction, Betty. ;D
Let me know when - I'll try catching it:) Thanks for sharing the pictures with us.
Very interesting colors!
They are beautiful. Well captured
Thanks! :)
Jeanne I just saw this. They are beautiful. Doesn't our creator have a wonderful imagination!
