I love these viscous little critters. Also known as "The Hanging Thief"...what do they steal? The lives of other bugs! :yikes:

Do they bite you, if you try to touch them? They look big enough to pack a painful punch. :'(

I have heard they can bite if handled...who would wanna touch one?!?
Not me!
By the way, great picture.
Rather cool looking bug! I wish the picture was lots bigger so I could see it better. The colour and bokeh is just gorgeous. How big is it (remembering I don't know metric. ;D)?

Okidoki, I made it bigger. It's about 3/4 inch long. Thanks for commenting! :)
Thank you for that. So, not quite a teeny bug but not as big as a dragon fly.
I like his toes. He's actually kind of cute in a really ugly way. Like the wirehair dachshund we had as a kid that my parents would tell people was part possum, part raccoon, and part brillo pad. We got him from the pound when he was 7 so he was already an old man, but he lived another 10 years and kept getting uglier each year...my sister and I were madly in love. <3
I had a wire-haired dachshund when I was younger. Nice dog, but crazy brave, and he hated bigger dogs. If he got loose, he'd be out looking for them.
I later learned that they are bred in Germany as badger hunting dogs. They are trained to track badgers, and then dig them out of their holes. If you've ever seen an angry badger, you'd know wire-hairs are tough dogs.
I got him from a vet who had been told to destroy him. It seems that an older couple purchased him and he ate their Bible. They thought that was a bad sign.
They were right. I loved him, but he was more trouble than any three other dogs I've owned. And he could dig out of any fence. If I staked the yard, he'd dig up the stakes. Got out once and got hit by a car. No permanent damage. Tough dog.
scary looking little fly but kinda pretty in a way.
Where was this taken....Haven't seen one here in CAnada!
