During the evenings on our canoe trip through the Florida Everglades back in December, we had a few different forms of entertainment. Most nights we stayed on chickees, which are two platforms connected by a walkway elevated on wooden beams so that they're about four feet above the water (varying with tides) in the middle of a river. Every night, the eight of us would crowd into one four man tent and play cards, we'd chat, or we'd revel in the humour of spontaneous activities, such as mashed potato throwing contests that inevitably end in me cleaning off the port-a-potty door, canoes trying to sink or the wildlife, like dolphins, sharks or this spider.
