Title: Places in the World
Post by: Pat on December 24, 2004, 03:37:04 AM

Lets try a new game.  This is a very popular game and educational too on another site I'm on.

This time, places in the world, in alphabetical order.

We should name the place, then a short synopsis about that place and what it's known for--if anything.

If possible, let's supply a URL for the place.

First one...

Aberfoyle

A small village just south of Guelph, Ontario and it's surrounded by artesian wells and a water common in most supermarkets around North America is called "Aberfoyle Water" as it's from here.

(who's next?  a place somewhere in the world that starts with "B")

I'll go next as well...

Beer

A small village in Devon on the south coast of England.  Known for lace making and in years gone by was a great place for smuggling.

Down in Devon, down in Devon,
There's a village by the sea,
It's a little piece of heaven
And the angels call it Beer!

Denbigh, North Wales

HENRY MORTON STANLEY was born in Denbigh.  Born in poverty and left Wales in 1858 and arrived in New Orleans, Louisiana.  Journalist.  Left NY to Africa to find the missing explorer David Livingstone.  He was famous for saying "Dr. Livingstone, I presume?" when he found him.

Hamilton, Ontario

Hamilton is where I took Jack every other day for his dialysis treatments for 3 1/2 years.  It's a steel city so lots of pollution for me!  ::)

But there are beautiful places in the city too.

Toronto, Ontario

I grew up just north of Toronto in the village of Lansing and it became Willowdale.  Later, Willowdale amalgamated with several other communities and became North York and not North York is part of the massive city of Toronto.

Toronto is the home of the CN Tower.

Dover

Backed by its famous White Cliffs, Dover is situated in Kent, on England's southeastern tip and is the UK's closest geographical point to Continental Europe. Every day of the year, regular cross Channel ferries travel between the port, Calais and Dunkirk in France, and Ostend in Belgium.
