Title: Need advice and suggestions?
Post by: amazinggrace on August 11, 2005, 01:52:40 PM
Sorry, I'm not too sure which forum I should be asking this in but the closest thing I saw that this classifies under is general photography talk?

Anyways we all know that homosexuality is wrong, cuz it says so in the Bible

"Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders" - 1 Corinthians 6:9

So my question is how do you respond to someone who asks if you can photograph their wedding if its a same-sex marriage wedding? Cuz if you tell them the bible says its wrong they would label you as condemning or even discriminating them and they might even take you to court.  How do you respond in a way that theres no way they can sue or take you to court with?

I am assuming by your tone that you don't want to do it.  If I'm wrong, please correct me, and it might change my answer a bit.

I think sometimes we forget that when we provide services for people, it is as much as our choice as theirs.  They like your work; they want to hire you.  You have a choice to say yes or no.  We have a tendancy to think that we must take whatever comes our way.  Ain't so.  I would simply say, "Sorry, I can't do it."  If they press you for "why?"  you could respond with "I have a conflict"  It isn't really their business beyond that (or even to that) point, but you have dealt honestly with them.  They will probably assume the conflict is with dates or times or such, and you don't have to really respond.

I would then recommend two or three competant photogs in the area that probably wouldn't mind.

Of course that is simply my opinion. Your mileage may vary.  Hope it helps.

Sorry it took so long for a response!
