JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Morning Devotional...

Lazarus Dies
John 11:17-36  NLT

When Jesus arrived at Bethany, he was told that Lazarus had already been in his grave for four days.  Bethany was only a few miles down the road from Jerusalem, and many of the people had come to console Martha and Mary in their loss.  When Martha got word that Jesus was coming, she went to meet him. But Mary stayed in the house.  Martha said to Jesus, "Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died.  But even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask."

Jesus told her, "Your brother will rise again."

"Yes," Martha said, "he will rise when everyone else rises, at the last day."

Jesus told her, "I am the resurrection and the life.  Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying.  Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?"

"Yes, Lord," she told him. "I have always believed you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one who has come into the world from God."  Then she returned to Mary. She called Mary aside from the mourners and told her, "The Teacher is here and wants to see you."  So Mary immediately went to him.

Jesus had stayed outside the village, at the place where Martha met him.  When the people who were at the house consoling Mary saw her leave so hastily, they assumed she was going to Lazarus's grave to weep. So they followed her there.  When Mary arrived and saw Jesus, she fell at his feet and said, "Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died."

When Jesus saw her weeping and saw the other people wailing with her, a deep anger welled up within him, and he was deeply troubled.  "Where have you put him?" he asked them.

They told him, "Lord, come and see."  Then Jesus wept.  The people who were standing nearby said, "See how much he loved him!"

In what situations have you been disappointed with God?

Jesus loved this family and often stayed with them.  He knew their pain but did not respond immediately.  His delay had a specific purpose.

God's timing, especially his delays, may make us think that he is not answering or is not answering in the way we want.  But he will meet all our needs according to his perfect schedule and purpose.

     Patiently await his timing.

Church was great this morning and the messages were just what we needed.  Next week we will receive pledge cards for our giving and turn them in...without names on them.

Ivalou called me to remind me that her church was having Talent Night this evening.  This little church has a congregation of 75-100 but it is loaded with talent...singers, puppeteers, chime choir, pianists, violinists, saxophonist, barbershop quartet. readings, and signing to the Lord's Prayer.  Then four of us went out for dessert afterwards.  A very fun evening!

I can't believe no one has been here since midnight.  Where is everyone???  YooHoo!!!  Where are you???

Al Moak

Hey Etta Sue - 7AM there is only 4AM here!  We don't get up that early!  You'll make us feel like that cat did (who was saying, "Don't bother me!  Put some tuna in front of me, or just leave me alone - can't you see I want to sleep!"

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone and here I am, Etta Sue.  I didn't get here yesterday as was busy with other things.  We attended Sunday School and church and then went out to lunch with 8 other friends and, as always, had a wonderful time of good food and laughter.  It is so nice to have good Christian friends.  I came home and took a nice nap and then spent most of the rest of day and evening reading and listening to music.

When I went out this morning is was really chilly, around 34 degrees, and the ground was covered with frost.  However, it is suppose to get into the 60s today and it is sunny with no clouds apparent in the sky.

I don't have anything on the schedule today so plan to stay in and work on some projects.  I took on a new short-term project to serve on and chair a committee to develop ideas and a plan for recruiting more volunteers for our computer Learning Center.  There are three others serving on the committee and we will contact other organizations, do literature research and brainstorm from our life experiences.  We will then present a report to the board and/or current volunteers and that will complete our work.

Etta Sue, thanks for the fine devotional.  It is helpful to me to remember that things happen in God's time.  This has had new meaning for me this year as I have seen it demonstrated.  Playing the "what if" game is such a waste of time and effort.

Al, you certainly have the cats pegged correctly.  :)  We had an experience over the weekend involving our cat that we won't soon forget.  I had let him in from the porch and he had jumped down from the table we have out on the porch.  He seemed to be fine but in just a couple of minutes he went into my wife's sewing/computer room and let out this terrible howl and then began a series of these as if he were crying out in pain.  Pat picked him up and cradled him and he stopped and then she held him for awhile.  He seems to be fine now but must have hurt his foot or perhaps he has arthritis as he is getting to be pretty old.  I have fixed the chair on the porch so he can jump into it and then on down to the floor as don't want to hear that cry again.

Etta Sue, it sounds like your sister's church has an abundance of talented people.  However, I expect that is true in most congregations but people are hesitant to share that talent.

Janet, you must really like the "Wizard of Oz" to attend the play and watch the movie on TV.  That is one of Pat's favorites and she has watched it many time over the years but not this year.

Trisha, sorry you have to have full time bed rest but you are wise to follow your doctor's advice.  My wife had to do that with our second child and we had a child that was only about a year old at the time.  Fortunatley my grandmother was able to come and spend several weeks with us and help out.

Carol, sure hope that Don doesn't overdo the lifting.  Don't you suppose God sent your pastor to you all for his purposes even if not everyone likes him?  He is doing God's work.

Ruth Ann, you must have needed the extra rest.   I hadn't heard that about the boys wearing such loose fitting pants.  I have seen a couple of sites I couldn't even adequately describe and thought how uncomfortable and troublesome it must be to put up with such a thing much less how ridiculous they look.

Marilyn, you are a kind neighbor and I am sure the cats appreciated the attention.

Ruth, hope your husband is feeling better today.  There seems to be a lot of flu going around everywhere.

Pat, hope the sun is shining up your way today.

The morning is about gone so guess I had better move on for today.

Pat

Good Morning Everyone...

Wow!  A new week!  thanks Etta Sue for opening our new thoughts for this week.  Good thoughts too!

I'm off to Mississauga later.  I'm going to have a night of listening to Freeman Patterson, a photographer I admire and I'm really looking forward to this.

Sun's not shining, Larry!  :(

I believe we had 18 degrees F. this morning.  Grateful that we had to buy a new furnace last winter because it should keep us more cozy.

Larry:   :-[   You are so right to point out that our newest pastor was intended to be here - and I really do believe that each of us meets someone we need to meet because every step of our lives is for a programs we do not know.  Thank you for reminding me.  Am sure that there is much more for me to learn - I did enjoy working with him at the homeless shelter when we were both prepping food.

company is arriving tonight & we don't know if the snowstorm/blizzard and so will be all the way to this lower level but he winds will be up to 80 mph in the highest mountains.  We can see something developing.

Etta Sue:  Your thoughts for the day concerning what ways I might think God has disapointed me - there is one huge issue concerning a daughter-in-law - it has made me almost ill and I have prayed that I could overcome this feeling and accept, prayed for a better answer and so forth.  Now, I am at the point that I don't even want to think about it as it makes me feel sad even to the point of slight depression.  Thanks for your good words today.

Carol

Good afternoon all y-all. Iam fnally her to post. I was here real early to read  though.

We had a Women's meeting lat night after prayer meeting there wre only 8 there but there was so much food I couldn't believe it. We are working on getting our new Women's ministries program  organized.

Thank you Etta Sue for the devotional today.  i think I am always a Mary as I am always in the kitchen preparing stuff when there is something going on at church. Hopefully that will change now. I have learned well to wait for God's timing but I have learned it the hard way.

Hi,

I had a very busy 4 days (Thu-Sun), and yesterday (Monday) I went to a gorge about 1.5 hours from home to shoot "autumn".  It was a fun time, but a lot of walking up and through the gorge.  The unusually warm October here left us without the deep, pretty red leaves that we normally get.

I'll post a pict or two later.  Wander over to the gallery with me...

from Hebrews 8...

The assigned task of a high priest is to offer both gifts and sacrifices, and it's no different with the priesthood of Jesus.  If he were limited to earth, he wouldn't even be a priest. We wouldn't need him since there are plenty of priests who offer the gifts designated in the law.  These priests provide only a hint of what goes on in the true sanctuary of heaven, which Moses caught a glimpse of as he was about to set up the tent-shrine. It was then that God said, "Be careful to do it exactly as you saw it on the Mountain."  But Jesus' priestly work far surpasses what these other priests do, since he's working from a far better plan.

Hi, friends,

I'm here feeling a bit "stale", since it's my oldest son's 45th birthday today!

It was, of course, a busy day at work, but I'm thankful I was able to leave on time. This time change still has my mental capacities reeling - I step into someone's office, and for all the world it looks like "midnight" outside.

Oh, well, I'll adapt, I'm sure.

Y'all have a good evening.

Howdy, Y'all.  I posted this morning........in the wrong place.  :-[  No wonder I didn't get any notifications.  :-\

I have been putting lots of hours into my scrapbook of photos of China.  I think maybe I am about 3/4 finished, and am wanting to wind it up. Those take many hours of work, and lots of THINKING as well.  But it will be a great reminder of the happy memories of our trip.  Darrel keeps coming into my studio to look over the pages I have finished, and that makes me feel good.

It has turned cold and windy here, and I don't like that, especially since I have to take Beth to Dodge City tomorrow.  But I hope we can get some answers for her.

Carol, your words about a daughter-in-law remind me that nearly every family has problems.  It doesn't make them any easier to deal with though, does it?  I know I have my share of heartaches with family stuff, too.  (((hugs)))

Larry, glad you got to stay home and take it a bit easier today.

Pat, hope you have a wonderful time at the photography meeting.

Etta Sue, good devotional!  And thanks for the heads-up.  ;)

See you all another day!

I'm a bit amazed - I appear to be the first to post today!  I don't think that's ever happened before.  and me on the West Coast.  You easterners must have taken sleeping pills!

Ruth Ann ~ My son is 45, also...soon to be 46.  I don't feel that old when I say I am 64 but I really feel old when I tell people my son is 45!  I am not old enough to have a son 45 years old... :'(

Al ~ I would have been first but my above mentioned son just called me and since it was his nickel, we talked for a long time.  It seems they have been offered a big amount of money to buy their home...so a strip mall can be put in there.  His BIL and FIL's land and homes would also be purchased.  But he says he turned down the offer.  He said, 'Never take the first offer!'  My county's business is new homes and real estate!!

I went to Photo Club last evening with Kitty.  I am always amazed at the quality of photography in this club.  Nita, I took a couple of pictures of Chaoscope with 'holes' in them and used them as frames.  They thought that was pretty neat!

Today is a gloomy, cloudy, sunless day in Indiana and 39°F at 10am EST.  So, that being said, I think today will be a 'reading a book' afternoon!

Hi!  I'm just popping in to greet you and tell you I will probably not be back on before tomorrow.  Have to take Beth to Dodge, then their Thanksgiving dinner at the home is at 5:30.  Since it is 80 miles to Dodge, and her appointment is at 3:00, I'm thinking we will likely be late to dinner!  :-\  But this trip is necessary, just another in the quest to find help for Beth.  The Reliv products are helping her in several ways, but she needs a brace on that foot/ankle/leg.

Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Goodmorning:

My hubby it seems had the 36 hour flu, after about as many hours sleeping he is now well. Thanks for being concerned folk.

Yesterday I made enough apple sauce to put in jars for the winter mmmmm it is good with pork chops.

On Sunday a retired farmer came to visit bringing a gallon of raw milk for Mel  it something I do not care for although I was a farmers kid but it is Mel's favorite.  Raw milk is a no no in Canada but Mel does enjoy it whenever it comes his way.

Monday we has an appointment in Brampton then on our way home we stopped at Sue's for a couple of hours before heading home. It is always so nice to spend time with your kids.  ooops they are now adults sorry.

Janet: It is good to hear that the Reliv products seem to be helping Beth.

Pat:  How was your time with Freeman Patterson?

It seems that this will be a day with no sun.

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.  Proverbs 3:6

Hi Ruth...

Last night was wonderful.  We saw so many wonderful images.  There must have been about 400 people there and it was a really nice auditorium like a theatre one with sloping floors so that all seats were good seat.

Hi everyone.  Colin, you are being helped by the "best".  Pat has helped many folks over the years I have known her.  Hope you enjoy participating here on SN and welcome.

Today has been a busy one and I just now read through my e-mail and wanted to stop by briefly to say hi.  This was the day for the luncheon at the Senior Center.  We only had 19 attend but had a nice time.  Pat fixed me a couple of dishes to take but didn't go as she came down with a cold last evening, her second since August when she went to Nashville to the quilting convention.  She has spent most of today in bed.  I don't have to go out again today so plan to have a nice quiet evening and will probably read.  I have gotten out of the habit of reading very much, other than on the Internet, and I am really enjoying reading books again.

It has been a very pretty day here today and warmed up fairly nicely.  However, we have 100% chance of rain tomorrow and some wind.  That will bring a lot more of the leaves off the trees.  The peak of the fall season has passed now.

Several of you commented on the ages of your children and making you feel old.  Pat and I have three great grandchildren and we are only 65.  Carol, I can assure you you are not the only one who has some family dyfunctions but, in my case, I have tried my best to learn to live with them since I can't change the situation.  I just strive not to cut off relationships.  God has blessed us in that two of the three difficult situations are greatly improved and I am most grateful.

Pat, glad you had such a nice time last evening.  It sounds like there was an appreciative audience.  Pat had a first cousin that was a professional photographer, as were his parents.  He told wonderful photos.  Unfortunately he had a brain tumor and lived only a couple of weeks after discovering it.

Ruth, I love homemade applesauce.  My mother used to make it every year.  Have you ever made pear honey?  I can still taste it on toast (what a nice memory).

Janet, hope you have a good trip to Dodge today and that Beth gets the help she needs from the trip.  Hope you didn't have to miss the Thanksgiving dinner tonight with your mother.  At least you won't have to have prepared a meal tonight after traveling today.

Marilyn, glad Mimi made it home from the hospital.  It is so nice of you to pick up the lady for the two week period.  You are a good friend and I think we often get so much more from helping someone than they do.

Etta Sue, I expect your son will be getting subsequent offers.  Hope he gets what he wants for his property since he probably wasn't seeking to sell anyway.

Al, didn't take any sleeping pill as I have no trouble sleeping but didn't get up very early this morning.

Ruth Ann, I like your "stale" comment.  I had never heard that before.

Kevin, I expect you got some really wonderful photos of the gorge.  It sounds like you had a wonderful time.

Nita, isn't it amazing how fast the weeks go by.  I had it in my mind this morning that it was Wednesday and that I would be going to choir practice tonight and then realized this is only Tuesday.

Carol, hope you all escaped a blizzard.  It is pretty chilly out your way.  BRRRR!

Guess I had better get busy on something else.

Nita

Hi, Colin.  I hope you find yourself around Christian Photographers and let us get to know you.  If you have Pat helping you, it won't be long you'll be flying along.  Anyway, welcome. :)

Etta Sue, I've been in a couple of times just to read your devotional.  God is really a stickler for HIS OWN TIMING, isn't He?  Jane Walker could really testify to this.  She has said that when she reminds God that she is in need of this or that, He'll say, "Well, do you need it today?".  And her answer is usually, "I guess not today". :)  And He always supplies before the need is actually there.   (Jane, correct the story if I've messed it up)

I've been cleaning today.  I decided I needed a new couch cover, so ordered that.  I had a Visa gift card my daughter had given me for my birthday.  I'd never seen one until I got it in the mail.   I went online to read about them. Seems there are all kinds of fees attached.   Not my idea of a good deal, but then I'm old fashioned and thrifty. haha  But for a gift card...and to me.. well....I won't look a gift card in the mouth (too closely or too often).

And back to the devotional.  God has been speaking to me about understanding the times, the seasons.   I think we are to be so intimate, so near to Him that we can be ones to whom He shares His secrets of timings and seasons.  I know I want to be one who will listen to God's heart in this hour!  What if He wants to speak to His Body and we are not listening?  This seems so huge to me right now.   Anyone else feeling this, or is it for me alone?

Blessings, nita

Ruth Ann Bice

Hi, friends,

It just dawned on me that American Thanksgiving Day is only about a week away! What gives with this year's calendar??? It certainly is whizzing along, that's for certain.

I had my truck's emissions testing done at lunchtime today and there was no waiting, so went on and got the license plate update, too. Then, after work, while in the dry garage that was well lit, I put the stickers in the right place on the license plate, filed the paperwork in the glove compartment for next year, and felt SOOOO relieved to get that behind me for another year.

My bosses were out all day, but I certainly stayed busy. Seems there's always a reason to concentrate and work a bit harder. At least, there are very few days when I get bored.

I'm still so very thankful to be able to come here and read at my leisure and pray about persons undergoing difficult situations, rejoice with those who are celebrating, and keep up with all of us.

Y'all have a good evening.

You don't "mess up" stories, Nita!!

Actually, I got that from reading Matthew 6: 25-34.  Jesus says my Father knows what I need ... and then he says not to worry about tomorrow ... If my Father knows what I need, He also knows when I need it.  If I don't have it today it's because I don't need it today .....  He supplies all my needs and I trust Him for the perfect timing.
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

It is good to read your posts.

Welcome to Colin all the way from northern Ireland!

Janet:   Thanks for the hug.  What a day for you driving all over Kansas.

Larry:   Yes, good to read your post.  Sorry that Pat has another cold.  A stay in bed is really good for mending the body.

Pat:  Your shout asked how everyone is and I am fine but tired from so many little things.  The best part is that I should sleep well tonight.  More important, How are YOU?

:'( :'( :'( I  was just completing a long post and lost it.

Anyway, I'm home and ever so glad to be here.  We had quite a day.  And Beth drove her power chair off the van's ramp--off the side of it, I mean--and it threw her out flat onto the concrete when she was getting out to go back into the care home!  I had taken her things in to her room, as Darrel was there with her, and when I came back to the door, there she was, lying on the concrete!! :o :o  Soon there were eight people around her, asking if she was all right and checking her vital signs, etc.  I think she will have some bruises and probably be sore, but she didn't break anything, thank God.  Talk about a scare!

We had been warning her and warning her to not wobble her wheels when loading or unloading, but ....... well, hopefully she learned a lesson.  That's something we can't do for her!!

We drove up to the care home right at 5:30, so after we made sure Beth was okay, Darrel came on home and I stayed for the dinner, then he came back to get me.

Welcome, Colin!!  I would LOVE to visit Ireland!!

And now, since I didn't get to sleep until after 4 this morning, I'm going to call it a day and hit the hay!

JANET!!!!  That's just awful about Beth!  My goodness!  I'm so sorry that this happened.

And now I'm going to go to bed but it won't be long till some of you get up.  I'm sure that Kevin is up over there in Japan!
