Morning Devotional...

Jesus Teaches about Prayer
Luke 18:1-14  NLT

   One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up.  "There was a judge in a certain city," he said, "who neither feared God nor cared about people.  A widow of that city came to him repeatedly, saying, 'Give me justice in this dispute with my enemy.'  The judge ignored her for a while, but finally he said to himself, 'I don't fear God or care about people,  but this woman is driving me crazy. I'm going to see that she gets justice, because she is wearing me out with her constant requests!'"

   Then the Lord said, "Learn a lesson from this unjust judge.  Even he rendered a just decision in the end. So don't you think God will surely give justice to his chosen people who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?  I tell you, he will grant justice to them quickly! But when the Son of Man returns, how many will he find on the earth who have faith?"

   Then Jesus told this story to some who had great confidence in their own righteousness and scorned everyone else:  "Two men went to the Temple to pray. One was a Pharisee, and the other was a despised tax collector.  The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed this prayer: 'I thank you, God, that I am not a sinner like everyone else. For I don't cheat, I don't sin, and I don't commit adultery. I'm certainly not like that tax collector!  I fast twice a week, and I give you a tenth of my income.'

   "But the tax collector stood at a distance and dared not even lift his eyes to heaven as he prayed. Instead, he beat his chest in sorrow, saying, 'O God, be merciful to me, for I am a sinner.'  I tell you, this sinner, not the Pharisee, returned home justified before God. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted."


What is the tone of your prayers?

     To repeat our prayers until the answer comes does not mean endless repetition or painfully long prayer sessions. 

     Constant prayer means keeping our requests constantly before God as we live for him day by day, always believing he will answer.  When we thus live by faith, we are not to give up.  God may delay answering, but his delays always have good reason.  We must not confuse them with neglect. 

     As we persist in prayer we grow in character, faith, and hope.

Hi everyone.  Up early this morning to straighten up my office a little before the housekeeper comes to clean today.  I like to clear the clutter off my desk and put things away that I have left out during the 2-week period since her last visit. 

It was a chilly night but wasn't suppose to get below freezing in our area.  It is to be nice all week with highs up to the 60s.  I heard from my sister yesterday, who lives in Northern Iowa, and they had 30 inches of snow on the ground and it has been very cold up there.

Etta Sue, nice to read you had such a nice vacation in Florida.  It sounds like you all kept pretty busy.  Last week was a bad one for traffic thru Atlanta, especially on I-75.  I think the cats have to punish us a little bit when we have been away.  They can't let us know that they missed us.  Thanks for the fine devotional today.  Glad you are feeling better.

Still haven't had any luck with my router and purchased a new one yesterday but had the same results so it must be one of my settings.  I will work on it more today.  I am also only getting a 1.5 meg speed and not the 6.0 speed I am paying for.  I will be checking with them today.

Marilyn, sorry you were not able to have your grandkids in attendance over the weekend.

Ruth, your beef soup sounds good especially if it is a cold day.  Of course, we have soup year round but not too often.

Janet, I believe we have had Rebecca St. James in concert at our church a few years ago.  I am sure it will be a wonderful concert.  I sure hope you don't have a lot of hassle on the disability.  I sometimes think that the first paperwork that agency ever gets from someone for each new transaction is immediately stamped need more information or denied and sent back.  I am sure it will get worked out.

Ruth Ann, glad you were feeling better when you posted.

Hi Sarah, you are certainly a busy young person.  Custody battles are never enjoyable but hope the one your sister is facing will go well.

It is time to head out for coffee.  Will leave a few minutes earlier than normal as need to fill my car with gas.  The empty light came on the last time I drove it.  Hope everyone has a nice day.

What a difference a day makes!!  Or a good night's rest makes!!!  I feel great today!! 

I have already been to the bank and now I am settled in to catch up on things while I was away!  Bright and sunny here today but only 33°F.  Not Florida weather but that will be here before we know it. 

Did I tell everyone that March 16th, Ivalou's church people are going to see a Gaither's concert in Indianapolis?  And I am going with them?  I love the Gaither's.  It will be a Conseco Field House and I have never been there before either.

Etta Sue, good devotional, easy reading version, and it's great to "see" you feeling chipper again!  I'm sure you will enjoy the Gaithers.  I've never seen them in person, but they do sometimes have concerts in Wichita.  That's a "mere" 400 mile trip for us.

Larry, I surely hope you get your computer/ phone/DSL/router/speed problems solved soon.  As computer savvy as you are, if you're having trouble, I know I'd be lost.  I'd just have to call a computer guru to fix things for me, and pay the big bucks.  :-[

Sarah, I'm so sorry your sister is having to go through child custody procedures.  Not a fun thing for anyone in the family.  Hope it turns out for the best.  And you, young lady, need to get more rest!!

Well, as of today, I am having to take over Darrel's work load.  NOT a good time for that, as we have several big jobs to do, and I am used to helping him, but not doing all the work.  He started therapy for his torn (or suspected) rotator cuff today, and the therapist said for him not to raise that arm above shoulder height.  It is impossible to do the kind of  work he does without doing that, as most of the work is at or above ceiling height.  And I am not nearly as steady on a ladder as he is.  :-\  This situation has me thinking that retirement is probably a good idea for him.  BUT......in the meantime, those jobs need doing.  So I'm about to embark on a whole new learning curve!   I'm used to "holding the dumb end"  ;) but now will need to learn all about how the connections are done, which wires do what, all that sort of thing.  Oh, my.

I think/hope I have all of Beth's paperwork sorted out for another year.  But I learned at the bank that I am not a signatory on her account, and that needs to be changed, considering her situation.  So we will need to have her sign a Power of Attorney for that.  Always something.

I just practiced the piano for an hour or so.  I want to learn faster than the teacher wants me to........she is scolding me for playing by ear, before I have really learned to read the music.  She told me not to give up on her, and I said I was far more worried that she will give up on me!  I am enjoying it very much.  More new things to learn!  But.......when I get through learning, I'm ready to check out!  :)

I need to do a couple more things before we go to work again.  Darrel is doing computer work related to the job just now, so that's why I had time to come in and say Howdy.  HOWDY!!   :lol:

Well after a long day yesterday I am finally getting at stuff.  I had to take John to the Stayner camp grounds and knowing it would be about a 6 hour round trip I wanted to leave early.  Church had a luncheon, and we decided to stay,  what a blessed time we had sharing lunch with family!  Anyway we had to gas up and pick up John's suitcase at home then leave.  On the way down John suggested a short cut that went wrong.  That is a first for him.  Problem was that he was the passenger when Dennis took the backroads and not the driver.  I decided to stay on roads I knew and arrived back home at 11:30.  Kassie slept in the car but Elizabeth kept up 3 hours worth of chatter.  Bless her heart when we were on the home streach she asked if I was ok, or was I sleepy.  How could I be sleepy with her chatter?!  It is amazing what you find out about your children when you have time to listen like I did. 

As is usual, we took Cimi with us.  I knew she needed a potty break but kept driving knowing we would be at the camp soon.  I parked the car as Dennis opened the door to the main building.  Cimi assumed he opened the door for her and in she trotted.  Dennis has Cimi's mother and litter brother, so he knows the girl.  He talked to her as he walked out of the door, and she followed.  We took time for all of us to hit the washroom and headed home. Cimi decided she was entitled to the front seat, and the girls wanted to read so they took the middle seats.

We had a pulpit supply pastor speak on Sunday morning.  Different style to Jeff but he was really good.  He came to meet us and see what North Bay was all about.  I found out some interesting info though.  The 49th parallel is the dividing line between the USA and Canada out west, this I knew, What I didn't know was that we in North Bay are south of the 49th!  I didn't know that, actually never thought of that.  I think the search committee will be looking to him as our new senior pastor.  Time will tell.

We are back from exercising.  Talked to a gal who had cancer surgery in Jan & she is now cancer-free.  She invited me over to her house this week to look at her antique quilt  We are invited out for dinner tonight at a younger couple's home - we met them while working at the hurricane damaged home in Texas and they just joined our church.  I should be having them over here - he is a fabulous cook as he & his brothers lost their mother at a very young age so relatives taught them to bake and cook.  This week's calendar is filling & I find myself lacking in time to read a book and relax. 

Etta Sue:  Good to have you back safe and sound.  Even a week in Florida sounds good - we really like to watch the manatees as well.  Thank you for all you do in here.

Janet:  I'm sure that I don't have to say it - "Be Careful".

I spoke with God about Colin and his father.

Well, ministry things are picking up.  I will be starting 2 new bible studies soon, one in our home, and one at the home of another family.  It's very exciting to see some growth here!

We always appreciate your prayers for our work here in Japan.

I'd like to share a bit of what I read this morning from Mark 10...

I went to both Curves and Tai Chi this morning.  Walked the dogs this afternoon and mowed the yard as well as picked up my taxes. It is a beautiful day.

Welcome home Etta sue, I enjoyed the devotional . I am glad you had a good time on your vacation to Florida.

Janet - God bless and enable you in the alarm business.  I wish I could easily get over there, as I worked for some years for Simplex Time Recorder and Fire Alarm.  I have checked the fire alarm systems in most of the nursing care centers/hospitals/schools in the Northwest at one time or another.  So I know what you're doing.  May God keep you safe and prosperous.

No Marilyn you did not miss me posting about my Farher...I left a message for Janet on the MSN. My Father is very ill...the family were sent for but he is still in there fighting. He suffered a massive heart attack. Thank you Janet for your prompt prayers and Kevin and I know the rest of you will be praying too. Thank you all in advance. It has been a very stressful night and I have to face two blood test tomorrow so I must go and get a sleep. God bless everyone.

It's been really good to be here this evening. The fellowship of believers is such a warm, comforting thing, isn't it.

I had a checkup on my diabetic feet, and the doctor smiled and told me that if all his patients were just like me, he'd be out of business! We agreed that after 2 years of wearing the same pair of shoes every day and using the same custom-made orthotics for the same period of time, it's time for a new pair of shoes and some new orthotics. It has been easy to follow the doctor's directions.

Now, to work much harder on following our Lord's directions!

Colin, many prayers are being said for your father. And, Jeannine, for your husband. And, Sarah, for your sister's situation. And, so many others, that I can't name them all. I was surely distressed to learn of Pinkie's illness, too, and will remind in prayer for her as well.

I went through a raft of blood tests this morning and now will wait anxiously for the results of the tests last week and then today's.

Etta Sue, it's so good to have you back home.  I've been to three of Bill Gaither's concerts now in Toronto.  They were very enjoyable.  Guess having him near you will be like being at home for him.  Isn't that where he's from?

Hi to everyone else.  I'll be so happy when I'm on the mend.  It's been a long haul.  Four weeks now.

Judy where's John?  Is he on a course?  When's he coming to Guelph?

Well, the Highway 400 is closed right now and has been for most of the day.  This is Ontario's main north-south highway and due to the white-out conditions and blizzard conditions, a bus ran into the back of a tanker truck sandwiching a small car between them and they think that there were 72 vehicles before it was finished.  The south-bound lanes are to be opened maybe in the morning and who knows when the north-bound will be.  It's been a rough day here weather-wise.  It's supposed to be minus 35C with the windchill tonight and the snow is just blowing viciously.

My sister has residental custody of my nephew for the next 3 months or until the divorce is settled.... whichever comes first with my bil having visitation and child support.... such a confusing time for my nephew to say the least but he did get to see his daddy for a while today :S not sure if that is good or bad anyways i am off to bed so i can go to school tomorrow ttyl have a GREAT day please pray for my nephew and sister

Pat John is in Stayner today.  Last night I was just ahead of the weather.  It was starting last night with the blowing snow.  All the roads in and out of Stayner are closed as well as the 400 as you said.  The news is really terrible for those people who are trapped.  Our associate pastor Jeff and another pastor were on the road south this am early.  The last anyone heard was they were turning back and heading home.  They haven't arrived home yet.  Please pray for their safety, and the safety of those in Stayner who as to leave there tomorrow afternoon. 

All of you KNOW I am praying for each individual and situation.  I have trouble getting to sleep and use that time for prayer.

Hi everyone. 

Got up fairly early and want to post before I get started on a busy day.  There is quite a bit scheduled for the day.  After coffee I have to return the router I purchased a couple of days ago as I am not going to need it and then to Office Depot to get ink cartridges for one of my printers.  Fortunately I will get reimbursed for them as I am doing more volunteer work for the Senior Golden Olympics and they are providing the ink and paper. 

We have a meeting to attend this morning and then this afternoon the Direct TV people are to be here between 1 and 5.  Also yesterday I called about my Internet service and found that I didn't have what I thought I had ordered.  Rather than high speed service it is about 1/6th of this.  Right now they only have 3 meg service but with that comes a different modem and home networking support.  The new modem/rougter is to be delivered this afternoon so maybe by the end of the day I will have some decent speed and home networking again.  Rather than needing two pieces of equipment the modem/router from the telephone company will provide the network. 

Colin, so sorry to hear of the serious heart attack that your father suffered.  I will be praying for him and for you and your family.

Janet, please be careful on that ladder.  Sorry to hear that Darrel isn't able to raise his arm but sure it needs time to heal.  You certainly need to be able to write checks for Beth.

Pat and JudyB, your weather sounds terrible.  I hear on the news this morning that it is still very cold and bad up North.  We are to be in the 60s today.  I noticed it was going to be zero where my sister lives in Northern Iowa.  Stay warm.

Carol, your mentioned the antique quilt reminds me that when we were in Denver my cousin's wife showed us a very unique antique quilt that was made of very fine fabrics with intricate designs on it.  If you like I will see if I can't e-mail you a copy of the photograph I took when we were there.

Well I haven't commented to everyone but have read all the comments and requests.

Just stopped in realy quick to say hi. I am waiting for a phone call, the doctors are going to place a feeding tube for Frank, he cannot eat or swallow, and liquids choke him. So....

my prayers are with you and your family. Remember, God holds you in the palm of His hand and will never let you go. He is your resting place and refuge.

Sorry, don't mean to leave any one out, just really stressful and i know how it feels to lose a loved one, and am worried about Michael too, lots of fevers. God be with you all and my prayers certainly are. Gotta go talk to the docs.

Jeannine, My prayer are with you dear sister. I thought your hubby was getting better, I didn't know how the surgery came out or the prognosis for his future. I still don't know.

Larry good to hear that you are getting your computer DSL problem straightened out.

Judy I am sure it is a weather related problem on the delivery of your parcel. It is on the way. I am trying for those trapped in Stayner who need to be traveling again. and for those in the accident.

Colin I am praying for your father too.

We had beautiful weather here yesterday too, mile  and sunny, I was out in short sleeves.  We are supposed to get more rain tonight there is a front that is stalled out just off the coast.

Ruth is doing much better, I could not believe that the new medicine was $219. for a 30 day supply. She has to pay for it then Blue Cross reimburses her at 80%, but what a drain on ones bank account. She was back to normal yesterday without the med as it hadn't been delivered yet. I pray she will not be over medicated again today.  Especially if they decide she doesn't need the meds and to be out all that $$$.

Must get dressed and fix my vittles now. I am having grits with cheese this morning.

Welcome "home" Etta Sue.

Colin, I'm praying for you and your family.  I know this can be a scary time.  My father had a massive heart attack in 1999, and it was so scary for us.   However, my mom, brother, SIL, sisters, and BIL (and future BIL?) are all Christians so we rested in Him and pulled together.  Several years later (like 6), I met a nurse that had been one of his nurses after his initial attack and subsequent hospital stay.  She said that all of the nurses on that floor had been impressed with our "calmness, serenity, and faith" during that time, and that some of the nurses that are still there still talk about it.  I'm not saying that to brag on my family, because goodness knows we have our rough edges like everyone else, but to show that God really does get the glory in situations where we can't see glory, and that good things can come out of bad situations.

Bernard has a doctor's appointment this afternoon.  He is understandably a bit nervous about it, so if you would pray for him, we would truly appreciate it.

I am having difficulty getting to sleep, so I spent time praying for the needs here.  Colin you and your family were prayed for as well as the rest of the needs.

Janet ~ My, another concern on your work load!  I would think that would be pretty hard to do...Darrell's job.  Hopefully he will stand by and 'watch' you work and not try to take over and harm his shoulder more.  Good luck with your piano lessons.  I took two years of piano way back when but quit.  I think my piano teacher was glad because I just could not get my left hand and right hand to work together.  I can read and play with the right hand but the left just won't work.  I play Chopsticks, though!  Thanks for letting us know about Colin and his father.  Prayers just went upward for Colin and all his family.

JudyB ~ Seems as though your six hour trips are not a thing out of the ordinary for you guys up north.  Lets see...six hour trip would get me to the Alabama state line....Branson, Missouri....way past Columbus, Ohio...and Grand Rapids, Michigan.  That's a trip either direction!

Carol ~ The Manatees were so slow moving and most of them had their baby with them.  I was standing there, looking down at them in the water and thought, 'Wouldn't it be fun to swim with them...they are so gentle looking.'  Then someone said, 'There's a shark!!'  Sure enough.  A shark!  I immediately gave up the idea of swimming with the manatees!!

mybcjazz ~ Thanks for The Message message.  I like that version for casual reading of the Bible.  Sometimes it brings things right in my mind when I was kind of puzzled as to the meaning in other versions.  I like that.

Marilyn ~ Mowing your grass?  Gosh, my grass is still brown with white spots of snow on it.  The snow is melting.  I keep thinking that March...each day will be warmer and nearer to Spring!  It's only 20°F in Indiana right now!!  

Al Moak ~ Seems like a 'day' trip would put you in Kansas so you could help Janet and Darrel!  More like three day trip, I am sure.  I didn't realize you used to do that type of work.  Many of us are retired electronic people, I guess!

Colin ~ My prayers are for you, my friend.  May God work his miracles for your father and your family! 

Ruth Ann Bice ~ I am sorry I missed seeing you in Nashville.  But that day started out hectic and ended up hectic.  Fog in the morning causes us to have a 2 hour delay and we didn't get to Dothan, Alabama, until 11pm our time...in the fog  I drove over 700 miles that day and I was certainly bushed!!  Hopefully, next time, okay?

Pat ~ Yes, Pat.  The Gaither's are from 'up the road' from me.  I'd say about 20 miles away.  They have a Gaither Resource Center in Alexandria, Indiana.  It is like a consignment shop with a restaurant and you can purchase Gaither tape cassettes, CD's, VHS tapes and DVD's.  A very nice center.  And they say when the Gaithers are home, it isn't unusual for them to stop in and talk to the visitors to the center.  I haven't seen them there yet!  This is my first concert to see them.  I am really looking forward to it!

Sarah ~ Divorce is rough on kids.  I tried my best to keep my son's father in his life.  He did.  I am glad that my ex and I are friendly.  That made it so much better for Tony.  Now he makes his own decisions as to whether to see his father or his mother...me..in fact!  My ex only lives a couple of miles from me now.  I don't see him and his wife often but we are friendly when we do.  I send emails to 'their' daughters...three of them.  Weird but I like it! 

Larry Hanna ~ DSL sure ruins us, doesn't it?  My brother has dial up and my niece emailed him a website to see Ivalou's new g-g-grandson.  My brother didn't get the site to open the first day.  The next day he got the hospital site to open but the Baby Gallery wouldn't.  So he gave up.  My niece sent me the same email and I clicked on it, clicked on Baby Gallery, clicked on the parents name and voila!  within seconds, I saw baby Adrian...brand new in the world!   

Jeannine ~ Soon Frank will be on the mend!  Sometimes patients take a turn backwards before going forward again.  God is in control...he is the one that made Frank and He can make Frank right!  Take care of both the 'men' in your life!

karmat ~ I thought of you guys as I was driving between Chattanooga and Knoxville...thinking you are just over the ridge!  Beautiful country in that area.  I said a little prayer for Nards and his doctor appointment...keep us posted, ya hear?

I am thinking that I need to get my pictures from Florida put on the computer and enhanced/resized.  I am thinking of entering a photo contest in April and I am hoping some of these photos will be fit to enter.  I got lots of shots that are definitely not Indiana! 

I had some pc problems last night.  I found way over a thousand .idx files in My Music folder.  After reading online, I realized that Nero put them there.  When I clicked on the properties of the files, they were made Dec 28, 2006...the same day I copied a CD for my g-niece!  Grrrr!  And it wasn't easy to remove them.  Then I did a Disk CleanUp, Scan Disk and I defragged this morning.  Also I downloaded some stuff and couldn't get rid of it.  This morning, I finally uninstalled it.  Computers???????  Can't live with them...Can't live without them! 

BTW, I went to bed at 1:30am after working on my computer!

Just wanted to say Hi on this extremely cold day.

I have discovered that my dog has a middle name..."Houdini".  She does not like being crated although she must be for her own safety.  I went out for a while Friday evening and came home to find her on the landing waiting for me with her tail wagging.  And garbage on the floor...grrr.  Saturday was spent attempting to "dog proof" the crate.  She is bending the metal and still trying to get out.  I think I may have to purchase one of the fully enclosed travel crates for her.  Oh well.  I will do what I need to to keep her safe, she is such a loving animal.

Now must get back to work.

My Father passed into Glory today when he died peacefully in his sleep with most of the family gathered round his bedside. For him now there is no more suffering and pain but eternal rest. We will all miss you Father.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Colin.  I, too, know how difficult the farewells can be. I will be praying for you and the family in these days ahead.  That is a beautiful poem for your father. 

I am sorry I can not comment further on other posts here but I have to scurry off to other busy-ness at the moment.

I have read each post, however, and am holding your requests before the Throne of Grace for each of you.
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Colin My sympathy and prayer for your loss, but his gain.  He has graduated you know!  What a wonderful thought that we can graduate from this world of care and heatache! 

We are studying the end times in small group.  Boy are there ever some wierd ideas people are coming up with!  I need to do some digging to get some Biblical answers to these ideas.  Our small group blessed us this week.  They are wonderful friends.

It is still cold up here in the big white north.  It is big and white cold north today.  -19°F.  Marilyn I am looking forward to mowing as well.  That is an indication that spring is indeed on its way.

I haven't heard if John is able to get out of Stayner yet.  Pray for safe travels for him.  He is such a dear.

I feel so sleepy & just had a phone call reminding me of a doctor appointment tomorrow that I did not put on the calendar.  It is so disturbing to make such a blunder. 

Etta Sue:  We are all very happy that you didn't swim with the shark.  I hope it didn't go after the sweet manatees.  They just look like they lead such stressless lives. 

Don is back from cleaning the car after having weeks of it being too cold and icy to even clean it.  I washed rugs, oiled all the furniture with lemon oil, and it is really nice in here right now.  Mended a shirt for Don and have been pushing myself to do the little needful things.  We had a long & lingering coffee with friends this morning & talked about their trip to Antartica.
