Thank you Janet for posting the information about Canada.  I even learned something new while reading it.  I have never been one who was much for statistics so learnng some of the stats for this country was neat.

Subject: The signers of the Constitution

    This year, when we celebrate the birthday of our country, you may want to reflect on the price of freedom our forefathers paid for the USA that we Enjoy. THE 4TH OF JULY

Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence?

Five signers were captured by the British as traitors, and tortured before they died.

Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned.

Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army; another had two sons captured.

Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the Revolutionary War.

They signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor.

What kind of men were they?

Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists.

Eleven were merchants, nine were farmers and large plantation owners; men of means, well educated, but they signed the Declaration of Independence knowing full well that the penalty would be death if they were captured.

Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and trader, saw his ships swept from the seas by the British Navy. He sold his home and properties to pay his debts, and died in rags.

Thomas McKeam was so hounded by the British that he was forced to move his family almost constantly.

He served in the Congress without pay, and his family was kept in hiding. His possessions were taken from him, and poverty was his reward.

Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of Dillery, Hall, Clymer, Walton, Gwinnett, Heyward, Ruttledge, and Middleton.

At the battle of Yorktown, Thomas Nelson, Jr., noted that the British General Cornwallis had taken over the Nelson home for his headquarters. He quietly urged General? George Washington to open fire. The home was destroyed, and Nelson died bankrupt.

Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed.

The enemy jailed his wife, and she died within a few months.

John Hart was driven from his wife's bedside as she was dying. Their 13 children fled for their lives. His fields and his gristmill were laid to waste. For more than a year he lived in forests and caves, returning home to find his wife dead and his children vanished. Some of us take these liberties so much for granted, but we shouldn't.

So, take a few minutes while enjoying your 4th of July holiday and silently thank these patriots.

It's not much to ask for the price they paid.

Remember: freedom is never free!

It's time we get the word out that patriotism is NOT a sin, and the Fourth of July has more to it than beer, picnics, and baseball games.
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Another beautiful day here on the island.  I could get used to this!

Interesting posts from Janet and Jane.  It is true that Canadians do seem to know more about America than visa versa.  Could be because you have so much more media coverage?  I have never seen that much difference between our countries here in the West.....might not be true of the East, since Quebec wants to be a separate country anyway..... ::)

Had another busy day and just finished feeding, cleaning and petting the rabbits.  Did lots of garden work this morning and had company from Misty today.  Yest. was shadowed by Billy Bob.  They kids don't use any chemicals in the garden, so lots of bees around.  I think they all know Wendy as never bother her.  Not so with me.  Have tried chatting them up without much success....

Larry, I have read all of the Mrs. Pollifax books and they are interesting.  May even read them again....nice thing about growing old is not remembering all of the plot.

Wendy found an interesting cook book from a northern lodge and it has some interesting ways people ask the blessing.  The book is 'Polar Bears and Blueberries', so it covers lots of cuisine.  Here are a couple of things:

God of goodness, bless our food.
Keep us in a pleasant mood.
Bless the cook and all the servers.
From indigestion, Lord, preserve us.


I am given to short blessings, so this next one kind of appeals.

Happy 4th to all and Happy Canada Day to our northern neighbors!!!!!!

We have been at son's cabin for almost a week and went over the Leaving List this morning after washing sheets and remaking bed and so forth.  Drove to a house and picked up a grandson, then dropped him at daughter's house so he can play and two grands are coming here for two days tomorrow morning.  Did some grocery shopping and is it ever odd to not have a big day of celebration and seeing all the open stores - whatever happened to this glorious holiday?  Everyone has to work tomorrow so it wasn't too crowded on the freeway. 

Liz:  We noticed a lot of bees when in Victoria.  Bees are becoming scarce here, you can ship some over.  Thanks

Janet:  Nothing is wrong in treating yourself like a little royalty - it takes time to recover those bones and muscles. 

Etta Sue:  Sorry you are feeling like a Mac Truck has hit you, hoping it will be better & more like a tiny Volkswagon.... you know what I mean. <3

Marilyn:  You just are not paid enough for this drama. 

Ruth Ann:  Happy to read that you were not shot in the morning  ;D

Larry:  Don really likes Pandora - I am going to see what I can put together.

The neighborhood is getting noisy with fireworks and firecrackers already, I gave Happy his pill early so now he is resting at my feet. I got a call to go up to a friends house for lots of food and the firewooks but I declined I will be staying at home to comfort Happy. I didn't take them out for walks today, just decided that it was safer for them at home.

Hope y-all are having a great fourth.

Marilyn:  I read your post so quickly that I thought it said "Happy pill" - sure do feel sorry for all the animals who have tender ears from fireworks.

Those fireworks in my neighborhood lasted until at least midnight and my poor dog even with the pill was under the bed every now and then I got down on the floor and gave his some loving pats, scratches and soothing words.

Ruth has already called me 3 times. Oh well  what can I say, I am not going to get stressed out over this.

Sorry for my pity party yesterday.  I have convinced myself that I deserve one once in a while!!  I feel much better today realizing that whatever I say or do won't change my circumstances.  But God can.  So I gave them all to God.

Julie is talking.  They operated on both of her wrists and added screws and rods.  They thought they would operate on her shoulder but it was out of socket and they put it back.  She will never have full rotation but at least it will be useful.  One of her cheekbones is shattered.  If they don't operate, her eyeball could fall into a sinus cavity!!  So that will be operated on soon.  The bleeding on her brain has stopped and the big gash on the back of her head has been sutured up.  And yes, we all know that God was with her.  Flipping a convertible three times, it is God's hand that kept her alive.  Julie is chairman for the 'Relay for Life' in her county.  Her sister died of cancer a few years back and Julie and Robin have even been to NYC to 'Relay for Life'.  I think that is the name of the organization.  Julie organized a walk in a little town not far away just a couple of weeks ago that raised over $15,000 for cancer. 

I spent yesterday afternoon on the computer trying to put music on my new cell phone.  I don't have an USB cable for cell phone to pc so I downloaded my music on my pc to the macro-SD card reader.  The music is on the card but my cell phone doesn't recognize it.  Back to the drawing board! 

Then we went to Keri's (niece where we went Saturday night) for a cookout and to watch fireworks over the lake.  Jenna got in to the Indianapolis airport early from Japan.  She looks so good!  So there were probably 50 people there last night.  Friends of Jenna, friends of her brother, Justyn, and then us old folks!!    :lol:  The fireworks are rated one of the best in Central Indiana.  They shot them off from a barge-like thing in the middle of the lake and they lasted almost 45 minutes.  Then the individuals all around the lake shot their own fireworks!!  Smoky area!  Ivalou and I didn't get home until midnight. 

Today is laundry because we make go to Ohio tomorrow to watch Erik pitch!  I truly think we need a hot-line to his coach and tell him to call us two hours before he puts Erik in to pitch!!  ::)

Hi everyone.  Just got back from Stone Mountain where I attended a meeting.  I am just finishing up my lunch, rather late today.  It is overcast here today but it getting warmer.  I stopped at the library as have read three books in the last few days and will be doing more reading.  My new earphones are so pleasant I am going to be turning off the TV when there isn't something I really want to watch and will be listening to Pandora.  That is a great site.

Speaking of the earphones I really gave thema workout yestereay.  Our next door neighbors had a pool party and from the time the man started setting up around the pool until about 10:30 last night, with the exception of maybe 90 minutes right after lunch, this huge 4 foot speaker was booming out the deep base sound.  It really got on our nerves.  I am glad they were able to have a nice time but they certainly threw out any concern for the neighbors by playing that blasting music for so long.  They have lived here a couple of years and this was a first (and hopefully last) time.  I believe in live and let live but I also believe we need to be aware of other people.  Enough complaint from me.

Etta Sue, so sorry to hear of the young lady in the accident.  She will have a long and difficult recovery but at least has life.  Hope there will be no lasting brain damage.  Glad you are feeling better but glad you feel comfortable in sharing your true feelings, both good and bad, as this is all a part of life.

Marilyn, it sounds like you didn't enjoy the evening and your dogs certainly didn't.

Carol, I am listening to Pandora more and more in place of watching TV.  My problem is thinking of the artists to use to set up my radio stations.  Hope you have a good trip home.

Liz, I just stopped today to get a couple more Mrs. Pollifax stories.  I have just about finished the first one.  I read that there are 13 books in the series.  Dorothy Gilman writes a good story.  I have read three book in the last 10 daygs or so, something I hadn't done for a long time. 

Jane, our early politicians certainly didn't serve to get rich as so many of our modern day politicians appear to think is the objective of holding the office.  I had seen that info before but good to review it again.

Janet, I agree with Heather and Ruth Ann that the info on Canada Day is very interesting.  Now if I could just remember all of that.  Sit back and enjoy your few days as a queen.  It won't last.  :)

Ed, that was a very thoughtful gift from your daughter.  Hope your evening in Detroit is very enjoyable.

Hello, friends.  This has been a very frustrating day.  We went to Darrel's appointment, had lunch at the senior center, then drove to Liberal for my appointment.  When I walked up to the check-in window, the girl asked what insurance I have, and when I said Medicare and Blue Cross-Blue Shield, she said, "Blue Cross won't pay for nerve conduction tests.  So it will be $700.00, up front."  :o  I told her Medicare would pay for 80% of it, and she said Medicare won't pay for it, either, because they consider it an experimental procedure.  I was so  :ticked:!  I said "And you couldn't have told Dr. Rane's office that when they made the appointment or called me before we made a 140 mile trip?" GRRRR.

I had Darrel take me to Dr. Rane's office, and I told them that I cannot stand this pain until the 20th of Aug. (first available appointment with neurologist in Dodge City.)  Dr. Rane then wrote me  a scrip for stronger pain pills, some steroids, and told me I am to rest my hand and arm completely, because I have serious things wrong with them.  I'm not supposed to even be typing, but wanted to explain why I won't be posting for a while.  Last night I may have gotten 2 hours sleep, and between that and the pain, I am just worn out.

I will come in and read, maybe say "hello" but no long posts for a while.  This does NOT mean I don't care about all of you, but I'm sure you understand.

Janet, I am so sorry that you are going thro' this....will be praying for you to get relief from the pain. 

I am too tired to try and post.  Not much to say anyway....Oh, they took away the gate and now all the traffic is coming down our street.  So much for empty promises from gov. and greedy developers.  It will be a constant worry for everyone as the kids are not used to this and play in the street.  No parks in the area and off course nothing like that is being built in the mess they are creating.  Some days it is hard to keep smiling....

Hi everyone.

Janet, it is time for you to take care of Janet. Please don't be worried about not having posted here.  Your postings are always appreciated but we sure don't want them at the expense of your pain and agony.  I can understand your frustration and it seems we run into these situations more often these days where they just don't take the effort to inform us or pertinent facts.  Hope the new medicines help a lot.

Liz, that is indeed sad.  So many promises are empty anymore especially if the governmental units can see more taxes coming into the coffers. 

Since I posted late yesterday I will just make this brief today.  Plan to drive to Kaiser for a blood draw for my routine cholestrel check and then this evening will drive down and pick up our daughter, who is spending the weekend with us.  Tomorrow is Pat's birthday so it will be nice to have her here to help celebrate.

I am leaving in a few minutes for Ohio in hopes to see Erik pitch a baseball game.  May not be back until Sunday evening!!  Ivalou and I are going....maybe Kaye Don and Barb if they can get things together.

I pray that all of you get positive answers from God in your healing and all your concerns.  I pray that God gives us all travel mercies including my family.

Good Morning I am not a happy camper this morning. Ruth called me at 12:45 AM for no reason other than she was awake, then again at 4:45 for the same reason. I didn't get much sleep last night maybe 3 hours and that is stretching it. Her son is taking her today to visit a board and care home which may be the best thing for her and for me, Yes I will miss the income but God will provide and i can do without the stress. Caregivers are very much in demand so I know I can get another job.

I have been to Curves to workout and have 1 load of laundry in the dryer and 1 in the washer so tomorrow I can rest and do those little things that never seem to get done. I plan to go to the Farmers Market to get some veggies, take a couple of tubs out of the shed an pack up some stuff for charity, I need to downsize and I haven't'  the time for yard sales. I could do the EBay thing but I just want to get the stuff someplace else fast. I also want to take out some fabric for a baby quilt or 2 to have on hand for baby showers.

Well I have to get moving this morning and fix my breakfast.

Yes, Praise God, Janet.  I'm glad you're in less pain...but you are still on your throne, aren't you?   :)  Being queen is never easy...and mostly boring, I'm sure. 

Etta Sue, that is a miracle that Julie came out of the accident alive.  Can you imagine?  Rolling three times in a convertible and coming out alive?  It certainly wasn't her time, was it?   She must have had angels holding her while the car rolled. :)

Marilyn, you sound like me.  I think of having garage sales, have had them in the past, thought about doing the Ebay thing, but end up taking them to Hospice.  I just want them gone when I get in that mood to "downsize".   Sorry Happy had such a rough time with the 4th noises.  And glad it's over for another year.  Tyson hardly pays attention, and Rocko gets so frightened.  I stayed home too, even though I would have liked to go and watch them and take pictures.  My boys come first.

Hello, everyone.  I forget what anyone else said.  Oh, yes!  Larry, I have some head phones that cover the entire ear.  They weren't expensive, but work great.  The music seems to flow into me and through me and transport me and I love it.   I've always wanted a Bible on tape.  I think I'd really enjoy that at night.  I'd want just the right narrator and I know they are expensive.  But it would be nice.

I know there are more I should be responding to, but if I look back, I'll lose my post. :)  I need to remember to do the two window thing, but always forget.

It's a lovely, but windy, day here on the Oregon coast.  I'm getting ready to run to the store..and back home again.   Nita

I am having so much trouble staying awake this afternoon, I go back to work in 20 minutes. I can't wait to get back home. Happy has a bath and grooming appointment tomorrow at 9 AM I am looking forward to that as he always is so handsome afterward and smells so good with nice soft fur. Bebe will get her nails cut. She wont' take a bath no way.

I still have one more load of wash to do, just 2 pr jeans and 2 pr church slacks.

This afternoon I waited all the flowers and potted plants and took the dogs for their walks.

Hi janet good to hear the pain is much less and to see the familiar blue posts.

ATTRACTING PEOPLE TO YOU

In West Virginia folklore there is a story of a country doctor
who was called out to a holler late one night to assist a woman
about to give birth. By the time the doctor arrived at the
farmhouse, things had progressed to a point where the doctor
asked the husband to help him by holding a gas lantern up
high in order to illuminate the makeshift delivery room.

Before long, the courageous mother delivered a healthy baby boy.
As the father lowered the lantern, the doctor barked an order to
keep the lantern aloft: "We're not done yet." Shortly, a second
child appeared on the scene, a healthy baby girl. Shaken by the
unexpected arrival of twins, the father heard the doctor say once
again, "We can't stop now. It looks as if it's going to be
triplets." To which the stunned father, still holding the lantern
high, replied, "Do you think it's the light that's attracting
them?"

Light has a quality of attraction. I recently left my office door
open late one afternoon in our mountain home and, at dusk, the
light from within attracted -- a hummingbird! (Coaxing a
hummingbird out of the house is a little like pushing a rope.
Mostly, whatever you do doesn't work.)

You, too, have a light that attracts...an inner light. Not
visible to the naked eye, but apparent just the same. We speak of
a "twinkle" in the eye or a "flicker" of warmth in the heart.
Some people shine with a light of kindness. Others emit a light
of hope. There are those who glow with enthusiasm and still
others who radiate love.

Almost all creatures are drawn to light, including humans. Do you
want to attract people to you? Positive and life-affirming inner
qualities can attract people like a warm fire on a cold night.
What will draw other people to you best cannot be purchased in
any department store. They will respond to that which radiates
from within.

You may not always see it, but your light is shining through. And
it's one of your most attractive qualities!

Janet Ilike that selection on Light.  Very illuminating.  Do as the Doctor says or you will slow down the healling process.

Marilyn I have been thinking about your phone call problem.   I had a friend whose mother called at all hours of the night.  She was terribly tired, and came up with the solution of turning the ringers off the phone when she went to bed.  You may want to try that, and see if there are any complications with doing it.

Larry those headphones sound like a quality pair and much easier on the ears.

Nita there is a man who reads the bible on tape that I have heard.  I will find out the name and get it to you.

This has been a busy day for me.  I have been working on next years cirriculum and it takes a lot of time.  I have asked a friend to come up with tests for the History book I will be using.  He takes the book to work with him and works on it on breaks.  He really knows Canadian History.

I am tired tonight.  Last night I went to bed early and spent the next several hours awake so started praying.  This continued till just before 2:00 am.  Interestingly John had a phone call at 2:30 from one of the people I was praying for.  I will keep praying.  Just as I pray for each of you and each need mentioned here.

Two patients limp into two different medical clinics
with the same complaint. Both have trouble walking and appear to require a hip replacement.

The FIRST patient is examined within the hour, is
x-rayed the same day and has a time booked for surgery the following week.

The SECOND sees his family doctor after waiting 3
weeks for an appointment, then waits 8 weeks to see a specialist, then gets an x-ray, which isn't reviewed for another week and finally has his surgery scheduled for a month from then.

Why the different treatment for the two patients?

The FIRST is a Golden Retriever.
The SECOND is a Senior Citizen.

Next time take me to a vet.

janet, how true that is.  I'm sorry you are in so much pain.  I'll be praying for you  (and others that have mentioned needing it, either for themselves or others).

Thought I would tell you about my almost disaster yesterday.  I had to go into North Bay for several appointments.  I was heading home out of town at 5:30, and heard the most terrible noise from what seemed to be under the van.  I pulled over but didn't see anything.  So I went off the next off ramp and uncertain what to do made a phone call to Pastor Dennis.  The line was busy so I went over not expecting to find him home.  He was!!!  Unbelievable, as I know his schedule is very busy this month.

He took the van out for a run and heard the rumble.  (more like a roar)  When he got out of the van I asked what he thought.  He had several ideas, but the one he said was ball joint.  Ug terrible expense.  When he jacked the car up on the passenger side he pointed out that the nuts on the front passenger tire were loose!  He checked out a couple of other things and all checked out.  When the nuts were tightened and after another road test he declared the van "fixed". 

Dennis is a back yard mechanic, and a good one at that.  He has kept this family rolling for 9 years!

As part of his ministry he buys inexpensive vehicles drives them, fixes them, and resells them to someone in need!

The rumble has not returned and John will double check the nuts when he gets home.  If they had let go I would have had a hard time making repairs!  There would have been lots!

Etta Sue:  Isn't it wonderful that there are doctors to help one like Judy with such terrible injuries?  You rarely have a pity party....

Larry:  Inconsiderate neighbors, yes, too much of that with younger people.  We have the computer and t.v. in separate rooms so I would like to get Pandora into the living room as well.  How to do it without spending a bunch. 

Janet:  Listen to me.  If Etta Sue can clam up then you can STOP TYPING......am using big letters to make my point.  We love you and want you to heal totally.

Our daughter is with us this weekend.  She starts her new job on Monday and is ready for Monday to arrive.  We are going to have shrimp for dinner tonight as we all like it and it is our 45th wedding anniversary.  We will be going out to eat on Monday night as it is Pat's birthday then so didn't want to go out twice in such a short time span.  

Nita, sometime I ago I acquired on Pat's request a set of CD's of the entire Bible at the Christian Book Store here and set them to her.  I can't remember who was doing the reading but he was very easy to listen to.

JudyB, glad you found the problem with your van before it caused you to have a wreck or something.  

Marilyn, it sounds like Ruth's son is finally beginning to see the light.  I thought the suggestion to turn off the ringer was a good one and something you could do so that your sleep isn't disrupted.

Janet, glad the pain pills are helping.  Hope you are just typing hunt and peck with one hand and not stressing your arm.

Etta Sue, I hope you are able to see Eric pitch a game and that you all have a good weekend in Ohio.  

Carol, I see that Pandora has a separate piece of equipment but I should also think you could use wireless speakers.  However, not sure you could mute the speakers on the computer without muting them on the wireless speakers.  If I recall you all have a laptop and if you have a wireless router you could access the Pandora site on the laptop in the room where you are and there are very inexpensive, but good sounding, speakers that will plug into the speaker outlet on the laptop.  I have a set of powered speakers that I used on occasion and plan to setup in my family room by where I place my laptop and then I just have to put that plug into the laptop to hear the music through the speakers.  However, I enjoy my new headset as the quality is great and it doesn't bother my ears.  I have been listening to them a lot.  At the moment I am listening to my Jackie Gleason station I set up on Pandora and the music is lush.
