JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Morning Devotional...

So the dead which he slew at his death were more than they which he slew in his life.
Judges 16:30

What a marvel that Samson's death was more productive than his life.

It is a reminder of our Lord Jesus. He also accomplished His greatest work in His death on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins.

Though they both spread their arms wide to die, there the similarity ends. While Samson's motive was revenge, our Lord's motivation was love.

Samson's death brought more death; the Lord's death brought life eternal.
                                                                                 --Warren Hagey

Behold, behold the Lamb of God,
On the cross, on the cross!
He sheds for you his precious blood
On the cross, on the cross!
O hear his all important cry,
"Eli, lama sabachthani;"
Draw near and see your Savior die
On the cross, on the cross!

Behold his arms extended wide
On the cross, on the cross!
Behold his bleeding hands and side
On the cross, on the cross!
The sun withhold his rays of light,
The heavens are clothed in shades of night,
While Jesus doth with devils fight
On the cross, on the cross!

Come, sinners, see him lifted up
On the cross, on the cross!
For you he drinks the bitter cup
On the cross, on the cross!
The rocks do rend, the mountains quake,
While Jesus doth atonement make,
While Jesus suffers for our sake
On the cross, on the cross!

And now the mighty deed is done
On the cross, on the cross!
The battle's fought, the victory's won
On the cross, on the cross!
To heaven he turns his dying eyes;
'Tis finished! now the Conqueror cries;
Then bows his sacred head and dies
On the cross, on the cross!

Where'er I go I'll tell the story
Of the cross, of the cross!
Of nothing else my soul shall glory
Save the cross, save the cross!
Yea, this my constant theme shall be
Through time and in eternity,
That Jesus tasted death for me
On the cross, on the cross!

Let every mourner rise and cling,
To the cross, to the cross!
Let every Christian come and sing,
Round the cross, round the cross!
There let the preacher take his stand,
And, with the Bible in his hand,
Declare the triumphs through the land,
Of the cross, of the cross![/color]

Janice

Hello friends!
We are back home.  Just wanted to say hi to everybody, and I will have to catch up with reading what I missed while away.

Hope you all have a wonderful Lord's Day tomorrow (today for some of you already!) I look forward to going to worship, it has been a long week!!

Earl's surgery is still on for Monday morning.  He is feeling better and wants to get this over and done with.
I got phlebitis in my right arm, due to the IV during my surgery.

Will try to get back here again tomorrow sometime.
G'Night all,  Love, Janice
This is the day the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.   Ps 118:24

"Yesterday, Today, Forever, Jesus is the Same,
All may change but Jesus never,
Glory to His Name."

Goodmorning everyone and a joyous, peace filled Lord's day to all.

Thanks Pat.  That was meaningful.  I never saw that before...Samson's arms stretched across the girder and Jesus' arms stretched wide for us.

Samson was demeaned also when his hair was cut.  He gave in to temptation from a woman. Jesus Himself was tempted but did not succumb for the glory that lay before Him. He was demeaned in every way, scourged and humiliated....He endured for us. .Praise Him!

Praise God re the Library Marilyn.

Hope Iain didn't overdo things at the agricultural stall yesterday and will take some time to rest and revitalise.

Janice I will be praying for Earl tomorrow, that all will go well and he will soon feel much better. Prayers for you also.

Love in Jesus' Name,
Jenny.

Etta Sue

Good morning all.

Karma ~ It does seem when you go to reunions that the younger ones don't go.  My son says 'I don't know any of those people'.  But how else will he ever know them?  Glad Travis found him a little girlfriend.
Janice ~ It sure seems that you and Earl are having too many health problems.  I am praying that the God get a handle on your problems and with the doctors helping...both of you will be much better soon.

I am so thankful that Jesus didn't die for revenge.  It is still mind boggling that he died for my sins so that I will live eternally in heaven.

I have a question.  I believe it was answered before but my mind just isn't working at top speed lately.  I am reading about the miracles of Jesus.  Why did he tell the people he performs miracles upon NOT to tell anyone?  Was this child psychology?  Did he really want everyone to know that he could and did perform healing?  Or did he just not want to be swarmed with people ailing and needing miracles?  Did he have just a small enough power and know he could perform all the miracles that was wanted or needed?

I am all ready for church and waiting on Lynn to get here.  Ivalou is over here right now to see how Jerry is.  God is good.

Good morning everyone.  I hope you're all having a great day.  I didn't get much of an opportunity to post yesterday, but I did come in and have a peek at the posts.  I also got to spend a lovely evening with Pat.  :)

Etta Sue, I'm not sure of that either.  I wouldn't say it's child psychology.  I think, He knew what would happen in His life and when, and He didn't want it to happen any earlier.  Also, He was humble.  He didn't want attention for what He did, but for Who He was.  If people told everyone they knew only about His miracles, then His person would be forgotten or neglected by them, and they would see only the deeds, or the things that were done in their favour, rather than giving all glory to God's Son simply for Who He was.  Does that make sense?

I'm afraid I'm not very good at trying to answer these.  Hehe, maybe in the future I should just leave it to more capable people than I :D.

Well, I'm off to prepare for the service this morning.  I hope you all have an uplifting day.  God bless you.  Jen.

Janice:  Ohhh that phlebitis must be terribly sore.  Are you taking antibiotics for it?

What is the surgery that Earl is having?  run that by me again, would you?

Its sprinkling rain here ...again., seems like we have had our fair share this summer.

Last summer was so hot and dry.  at least this year, we don't have a complete watering ban like we did last year.  We can water our grass and gardens, but only every other day.  we get to water on "odd days" (our house number is 91), thats how its regulated.

A close friend of a dear friend of mine, their 22 year old son suddenly dropped dead of a heart attack while playing in a volley ball competition.  He was a professional football player as well, member of Athletes in Action.  a very fine Christian young man.  Far too young to die.  We know his parents.  Please pray for them.

I will go to the Prayer forum, and put his name there.
...thanks

Good Morning: Happy Lord's day to you all.

"Bless the Lord oh my soul, Bless His holy name. Bless the Lord oh my soul and forget not all His benifits, who has forgiven all my sins and healed all my diseases".

It has been overcast every day at this time since I have been here in Mckville, But today the sun is shining not a cloud in the sky. It is going to be a "Sonshine" filled day. "This is the day the Lord has made, Let us rejoice and be glad in it."

Just stopping in to say Hello to one and all. I pray your day will befilled with the "Joy of the Lord". Remember that whatever problems you may be facing that on this day "You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you" 'That the joy of the Lord IS your strength"

May the Lord's blessings be upon each and every on of you who reads today's thread. and May the Lord bless those who have not visited us here lately, and blessings upon  those who are yet to come.

It is a beautiful Sunday and sunny morning here in Georgia.  Pat and I will head to church in a little bit and then probably also go out to eat with our friends after the services.

Pat, the morning devotional paints quite a word picture.  I had never thought of the similarity and yet quite different outcomes.

Janice, sure sorry to read of your additional problem with your arm.  Hope that can be cleared up shortly.  Glad to hear that Earl is feeling better and will be able to have his surgery tomorrow.

Good morning Jenny.  Always good to read your postings (as it is good to read the postings from everyone).

Etta Sue, you sound more upbeat about Jerry's condition today and that is great.  I am sure he is looking forward to getting to the rehab center as that will be one step closer to being able to get home.  I have wondered the same thing about Jesus telling the people who had received miracles from him not to tell anyone else.  I look forward to hearing from Papa John and Al (as well as anyone else) on this matter.  Jen I thought your ideas were good.

Judy, it is unusual to hear of someone having a fatal heart attack at the age of 22.  I wonder if they will find some congential defect in his heart that no one knew about.

Jeanne, I also noticed the 60 postings and had the same thoughts.  It was great to see so many folks posting.

Karmat, sounds like you had quite a day at the reunion and then some photo opportunities.

There are some good smells wafting through the house at the moment as my daughter is making caramel popcorn to take to school with her tomorrow for some reason and is also making some for us and for our neighbor, who is quite fond of it.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Etta Sue - of course I suppose it's obvious that  that the reason for Jesus' command not to tell others was different in each case.

In the case of the leper of Mark 1 He wanted the man to go to the priests as per the Old Testament injunction regarding cleansing.

In the case of the little girl of Mark 5, it seems to me He merely wanted her (and her parents) to have a little peace so that she could eat and reflect on the miracle.

Of course, also, in many, many cases He did not restrict anyone from telling what had happened to them.

In fact, many miracles were performed that were so public that it wouldn't have mattered - everyone knew of them.

In only one or two cases, our Lord did restrict the person healed from spreading the word, and the reasons were somewhat evident.

In those cases - and only those - He didn't want the crowds to become downright unmanageable, which they often did.

But - suffice it to say - our Lord didn't often command people not to speak - only on specific occasions for specific reasons.  Jesus was extremely well known as the Healer, and huge crowds did follow Him.

I hope it's also obvious that He was not restricted in the power He showed - He is God, and His power is and was limitless.

He did want people to know about Him, but He wanted them to know the right things about Him, not erroneous things spread by hearsay.  One of His main missions was to make it known that He was Messiah, that His Messianic mission was not political or earth-bound, and that it had to do with His coming return to earth to usher in the everlasting age of righteousness.

Another mission was to die.  He came as His people's Sponsor, and, as such, took upon Himself the guilt of all their sins, went to the Cross, and "gave Himself, the Just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God."

Another mission, restricted to the disciples, was to reveal Who and What God really is (John 1:14-16) in order that true worship might be restored to the earth.

Another mission was to establish His Church upon the earth and to begin its evangelical mission of reaching the lost with the Gospel of peace.

All of our Lord's missions were perfectly fulfilled, as will be seen when He returns, cleanses the earth of all sin, and establishes His everlasting reign of righteousness.

Marilyn

Wow Al;all I can say is thank you for the lesson. You really expounded on Etta Sues question. Thanks again.

Jenny U.K. 4.45 p.m.

Posting again today.  I meant to go for a ride in the park  but don't feel well enough.  It's a lovely afternoon too.  A gentle breeze blowing, which we need it's been so sticky lately.

Etta Sue I do hope Jerry will soon be feeling better and able to come home soon and relax with you. I am glad he has you to be a blessing to him.  Truly.  May God bless you both!

I was thinking how wise Jesus was. His timing was absolutely perfect...He knew all things. I f only we had such wisdom.

Thanks Al.  I did appreciate your ministry of the Word.
This is on my heart too:-

.

With lepers He would send them to the priest after healing them  because of the laws concerning leprosy.Lev 14. is  A symbolic chapter with much meaning for sinners, for you and for me...A lamb had to be slain by the priest as a sin offering...v13 is significant:" He shall slay the lamb in the place where he shall kill the sin offering and the burnt offering, in the Holy Place: for as the sin offering is the priests so is the trespass offering: it is most holy".

Jesus is our High Priest, He is our sin offering   but his time had not yet come so it was necessary to abide by Moses' law and not to upset the High Priest at this stage.  Wisdom and timing in everything He did.

How hard Jesus worked for us.  How completely alone He was.  Even the disciple whom Jesus loved, John wouldn't have understood. Did'nt  Jesus say...

"You do not understand now but you will understand later..........and your joy will be full".

"Behold a man full of leprosy : who seeing Jesus fell on his face and besought Him saying "Lord if Thou wilt Thou canst make me clean". And He put forth His hand and touched him saying "I will be thou clean."And immediately the leprosy departed from him. And He charged him to "tell no man but  go and shew thyself to the priest and offer for thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them."....Luke 5:12-14.  STILL UNDER THE OLD ORDER, THE NEW ORDER DID NOT TAKE EFFECT UNTIL JESUS THE LAMB OF GOD HAD DIED.

Jesus if thou wilt thou can'st make me clean. Amen.

I feel one of those "fuzzies" of yours Pat....It's from Jesus. My Saviour. My best friend.

Love to all from England.

Janet

It is another very hot, still day (stillness is unusual!) here in Kansas.  I think the temp is around 103 or 105....Whew! :'( (That is sweat, not tears!)  ;)

Beth has a friend from her college days who lives about 50 miles from here.  Melinda had a brain tumor a few years back, was really a touch-and-go situation, but she has recovered nicely.  She is married and has two girls, now 11 and 13.  Anyway-----she came and spent the night with Beth last night, they called and asked me if I wanted to cook breakfast for them, so I did.  Melinda is a sweet gal, and about 5 years ago, she started having seizures, so she couldn't renew her drivers' license.  She has now been seizure free for the required length of time and has her license back, so her husband told her to come see Beth, just so she could have some time to do something he knew she would enjoy.  Isn't that nice?  Beth maintains her friendships over long periods of time, which I think says something about her character.

Anyway........probably TMI, but it's typed now, and I'm not going to delete it! ;) ;D

I hope everyone is enjoying the Lord's day and time with Him.  I will come in later and post something more "on subject."

Hi Everyone!

This has been a lovely Sunday so far.  Our service this morning was so nice and meaningful.  What a wonderful Saviour we have!  We sang this this morning...

Alas! and did my Saviour bleed[/b]
(Click title to hear music)

Alas! and did my Saviour bleed,
and did my Sovereign die?
Would He devote that sacred head
for such a worm as I?

Was it for crimes that I had done
He groaned upon the tree?
Amazing pity! grace unknown!
and love beyond degree!

Well might the sun in darkness hide,
and shut His glories in,
When Christ, the Mighty maker, died
for man, the creature's sins.

Thy body slain, sweet Jesus, Thine -
and bathed in its own blood -
While the firm mark of Wrath Divine
His soul in anguish stood.

Thus might I hide my blushing face
while his dear Cross appears;
Dissolved my heart in thankfulness,
and melt mine eyes to tears.

But drops of grief can ne'er repay
the debt of love I owe;
Here, Lord, I give myself away-
'til all that I can do.

Oh, Etta Sue!  Thanks so much for asking that question.  Now we have a little Bible Study from Al Moak and it's so good to read.

Hi Jenny!  Thanks for your added words as well.  I see that you've also posted a delicious sounding recipe too in the Desserts area.  Thanks for that.  You were mentioning Iain...  Iain doesn't turn his computer on on Sunday.  He has a rest away from it.

Ruth, it rained here as well but some if the rain was so Irish!  It was such very light drizzle and it felt nice on my face as I came in from church.

That was interesting reading about Beth and her friend, Janet.  What's TMI?

The popcorn sounds good, Larry!  I hope you enjoyed your church service.  Give Pat a hug for me.

Hi Marilyn!  Nice to see you settling in in your new home.

Great to hear from you, Janice.  How did Earl get on drinking lots of water with that new script?

I'm off to go and sit on the swing with a cup of tea and my Bible.  I'd like to read for awhile.

Hello everyone.  It has been a hot muggy day here in the north.  The clouds are heavy and looks and feels like rain.

I spent the day so far at my son's.  We have Brytan's birthday party next Sunday after church.  What do you buy  3 yo that has drawers full of clothes and too many toys, all from loving grandparents?  A dilema!

Say those of you who live in Nebraska and Colorado..... John is driving through your beautiful states today!

We I must go and see what the girls are up too.

Well....we, too, had a wonderful service this morning!  Our Pastor Bev was back leading the worship, standing at the piano with tamborine in hand (for some of the songs) or signing (sign language).  She looks wonderful!  Then ... all of a sudden the doors opened and in came the entire congregation from a neighboring church!  They had come to lend support and encouragement for our pastors.  Ron announced that Bev has decided to go ahead with chemotherapy (but it will be lower doses so she won't be losing her hair), and she is completely confident that she IS healed and is rejoicing in the Lord.  We had an awesome worship service and Ron preached a great message on "assurance" ... then he and Bev stood in front of the now overflowing sanctuary, holding hands, and asked us to join them in singing "Blessed Assurance!" He says this is the song in their hearts now.  How exciting to see how God has blessed Bev and the way she justglowswith faith and love for Him.

This evening, being the last Sunday of the month, we are having a Singspiration at church...Y'all come!  We'll just sing -- any and all the old favorites as well as enjoy any special numbers anyone wishes to contribute.  It's always a fun time of fellowship because so many of the other churches around here don't have evening services and they can come join us.   :D

BKSELLER2!!
Thank you, Al!  I had a feeling that the 'shhh's' were all not for the same reasons.  You gave a very good explaination to the question that I have been meaning to ask for quite some time.  I guess I know we are to tell everyone about Jesus but he told some not to say anything.  Confusing to me.

Pastor Bev....

Jen, you did a great job of answering my question, too!  Thank you.

Church was wonderful today.  First was the song "Sweet By and By" and I remembered singing that as a child.  Then "I'll Fly Away".  I was in heaven and didn't even have to look at the words.  The sermon was on "Imagine Heaven" with David telling us what he thought heaven would be like.  I didn't realize that Hades was different from hell.  Hades is the underground abode but hell is where those who aren't called to heaven when Christ returns will go...pain and agony for eternity.  Also some people will not experience death.  Those alive when Christ returns will be taken to heaven....body and soul.  I love the dream of Jacob's.  Gen 28:12 He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending upon it.  I truly believe that this is God's angels going up and down the ladder to heaven, taking the souls of our departed loved ones.

I am tired and it will be early to bed tonight.

I put an update for Jerry in 'Have You Prayed...."

Well It sound like everyone is having a great day in the Lord. Today after praise and worship there was a presentation by some of the ladies and songs to celebrate the birthday of our Pastors wife Judy Speer.

Then the message was on those "Why is this happening to me again?" Life Changing things that happen to us and why they happen. Very enlightening. Some of those things are Willful Disobedience, Emptiness, Unforgiveness Unfaithfulness and Lack of Accountability. Those were the 5 points he covered today and it will continue next Sunday.

Hello to everyone. I posted an update on Gitsie's condition. in Have You...?

I went alone to church this morning - Gene had left a note saying his head was "ready to explode" and he had taken a fourth pill.   :'(  So I went early to start the coffee and get things ready for that, then hurried to the sanctuary to be one of the greeters.  The other two who had agreed were a little late getting there and the young man who had said he would read for the Prayer of Confession didn't show up.  I thought for a few minutes I was going to be doing everything myself!  :-\

But then the other greeters arrived and the mother of the young man said she'd take that over.  So I could just relax and enjoy the service from then on.

Our pastor is on vacation and we had a substitute - a man who looked to me as though he was still in high school, but then everybody looks young to me these days.  He's been in the mission field in Haiti several years but now he and his family are living in a small hamlet next to Corinth,  running a construction business while he waits for the Lord's next leading.  He had a great message.

We've had some very light rain off and on all day and there may be some thunderstorms a little later tonight... or they may just pass us by.

I trust everyone is doing well, and has had a good restful day, today.  Ours was busier than usual, I think, and as a result, I may be out of here a little earlier than I normally am.  Maybe.  hahahah

Tonight was the first meetin of our youth choir.  The church has asked if Bernard and i will do something with them.  We had 4.  There are only about 9 youth in the church overall, so I thought that was a pretty good turnout.  (Our church averages about 80 on Sunday morning).  This group is different than any other group I have worked with.  At our last church, we had about 20 regular youth, but most of them didn't want to sing or do drama or anything.  They were good kids, and eager to learn, just very passive about church.  These four we had tonight aren't like that.  They love to sing.  I have two asking if they can do solos already! :o  kewl.  keep us in your prayers.

Welcome BKSELLER!!

I will not even try to address everyone today, but I will say I hope everyone has a good night/morning/afternoon and a good upcoming week.

Take care,
