Morning Devotional...


It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.
Hebrews 9:27

The judgment is just as certain as death. Some people in terrible pain, or facing penalties, choose to commit suicide. They seem to think that it will end all.

In fact, for those not born again, it is the beginning of far greater agony, with no escape, no end.

God offers eternal life as a gift, but this offer terminates at death.

Why leave it to the last minute?

Come to Jesus, here and now. You will never regret it.

Yes, when we love God there isn't anything to fear and death is the beginning, not the end.  I just returned home after visiting with Al.  He saw the specialist today and there is nothing that can be done now, except to see that the pain in kept under control.  It's hard to accept, as he is the dearest friend and companion, doubly hard for his kids & grandkids.  It will be possible to do things together for awhile and so will continue to enjoy what time God allows.  I am grateful that the Lord, in his own mysterious way, lead me to this site.  It is a great comfort and source of strength.  God Bless.

ELIZABETH~My heart goes out to you.  I know this has to be a very long good-bye and yet you know you will be "seeing" each other again.  I pray for Al's family, too.  What a difficult thing this is to accept.  God bless you (ALL) real good!

I had a wonderful day today (yesterday) ... I called Nita and told her it was Christmas over here at my house!   I received the book "Complete Works of Oswald Chambers" and this is such a wonderful book...I know I will love every word in the 1530 pages!  It comes with a cd and I promised to give Nita the cd so we will both have access to the complete works...

Another wonderful gift that came in the mail today was a letter from my eldest grandson, Tim!  I am so happy ... I haven't heard from or seen him since his mother's funeral in Januray 2000.  He is in Iraq ... has been since April ... and I thought I would never hear or have contact with Jean's boys ever again since the family in Sacramento have more or less excluded me from them.  They are from her first marriage, and both she and their father are deceased.  The step-dad doesn't want me to have any contact with them.  It was totally by "chance" that Tim wrote to me ... I had supplied my friend, a minister and writer, with his APO address and she sent him a packet (a booklet and prayer for soldiers in the war zone).  He wrote to thank me for sending him the book...he says he is almost half-way through it and he just got it the day before!  Whatever it takes, I am just sooo grateful that I have heard from my #1 grandson again!  God is so good ... all the time!

Wow, Jane. You're great at spreading the news! The last thing Kassie said to me was "Grandma, I'm SO happy to have my baby sister." And during the pregnancy, Kassie has often talked with the baby. As little Georgia was screaming, Kassie ran over to the crib where the nurse was washing her, touched her little hand, and said, "Georgia, this is your big sister!" And Georgia turned her tiny head to face Kassie, stopped cying, looked at her intently, and listened as Kassie crooned some sweet nothings in her ear. What a glorious site to see.

JANE. ...I too love Oswald Chambers.....what a great man he was. I have "My Utmost for His Highest" and "He Shall glorify Me".....and recently my son bought me David W. Lambert's biography "Oswald Chambers".......

Lambert states:-
"Someone has outlined the life of Chambers in terms of the Beatitudes".

"He was poor in Spirit and actually poor......
He was a city set on a hill, not to be hid...and a light for his generation
He did trust the Heavenly Father like the birds, and grew as the lily where he was put....
He built on the rock and no storm could shake him". He was a beautiful Christ-like man.

I have a lonely day today but as it's lovely and sunny I intend a ride in the park and some odd jobs...also to hose the back lawn, it's dried out and needs a good drink of water.

WELCOME TO OUR WORLD, GEORGIA FAITH!! And love and congratulations to big sister Kassie, Grandma Ruth Ann, Mama Pam and Daddy, and the rest of the family!  There is nothing as sweet or wonderful as a brand new baby---what a blessing!

Elizabeth, I am so sorry about the news concerning your dear friend, Al.  I pray you will continue to trust the Lord, and that he will feel well enough to enjoy good times together with you, his kids and grandkids.  Keep on looking to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.

I sure am missing our brother Iain!  Praying that his computer problems and his health problems are remedied, and that right soon!

I have Abby for the weekend, she has just gone to Beth's to meet the new puppy!  I know she will love her!

The new puppy's name is Mieka!  Beth likes that name so much, so I asked Mieka if it was okay with her, and she said it would be her pleasure to have the puppy named for her---so Mieka it is!  Our Mieka is such a sweetie---the girl, I mean!  I just love her!

We have lots to do today, as usual.  I will likely be back later, though.

Papa John!  I am so sorry to hear you aren't feeling well, and having that old back pain.  Prayers for you, dear brother.

I heard from our Iain!  He was cleaning his computer and lost a lot of backup and files due to faulty CDs and he also lost his password for CP!  So we've got that straightened out and he's at the Craft Show right now selling some of his photos, etc.  I sincerely pray that he has a great day there.


What terrific news regarding the newest little girl, Ruth Ann!  A similar thing happened like that when our little Rebecca was born.  Andrew used to talk away to her before she was born and after she was delivered, she was crying and Andrew spoke and she instantly stopped and turned her little head toward her Daddy.  I saw this happen and it was so nice to see.


Well, Janet, what do you have planned for your day today?  I think that's so nice to name the new little pup after our Mieka!  I'm thinking that Mieka is having a problem again with WebPost.

I tidied the garden a bit this a.m. It's afternoon here in England.  I hobbled but achieved something....a job well done.

Jane, sorry, I meant to say earlier  how wonderful for you to have your grandson.  He never forgot the love you gave him....May God give you happy times together and bless Tim, keeping him safe.

Elizabeth ~ I am so sorry to hear about your friend, Al.  I know how you feel almost.  It is sad to lose a loved one but glad to know you will meet again in heaven.

Janet ~ What a cute name for the puppy!  I am so glad that Mieka gave her blessings.  Who says you can't have a name sake?  Just think, the puppy could have been an Etta Sue!!!  

Pat ~ I didn't notice any pop ups.  But then I have been in and out of CP pretty quickly the last few days.

Jane ~ I got a devotional of Oswald Chambers when I first became a Christian...I will admit it was too hard to read and understand for me so I gave it to the church library.  But our church had a musical once on "My Utmost for His Highest".  It was wonderful.  I am so happy for you that your #1 grandson wrote to you.  They grow up and have a mind of their own and make their own decisions.  I am so glad he chose to write to you.

Iain ~ Hope your computer problems cease soon and you are baaaack!

Papa John ~ Continuing prayers are going heavenward for your health.

I am going early today to see Jerry.  Therapy is over at noon and Lynn and the kids may be coming today.  Either today or tomorrow.  I am praying that Jerry is much better today.

Good Morning. Pat thank you for the devotional this morning. Again it reminds me that Gilbert and Sarah really need to know the Lord. I hate to think of them in the eternal flames of hell. Please continue to pray for them.

Oh Ruth Ann how precious a memory for Kassie. She can tell her little sister that she was there when she was born and talked to her right away.

Elizabeth I will continue to pray for Al. You enjoy the time you have left to do things together. You will certainly see  him again.

Etta Sue I haven't been to Have you.. yet this morning but I will go when I finish here. Tell Jerry that we all miss him. I mailed a card to the hospital the first day you posted his address here.

Jane What a blessing for you to hear from your number one grandson. I know the feeling, I have one grandaughter I haven't seen since she was 13 and I have never known her. She is  now almost  18. Two others I haven't seen or heard from in 11 years.

Jenny, I am  sorry that you are feeling lonely today.  I think we all have those days when we are living alone. I know I do. But Jesus is the friend that sticketh closer than a brother. At time I have longed just to hear another human voice.

Good morning everyone.  We have bright sunshine here right now but showers predicted for later in the day.  Our daughter, Martha, who lives with us and teaches school goes back to work Monday.  It seems like the time is flying by.

Solomon said,  "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven:  a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot," Eccl 3:1-2 (NIV)

Pat, your devotional this morning reminds us of that time to die and the judgment which follows.  As we know Christians do not have to fear that time.

A favorite writing of Paul explains this conviction.  "For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.  I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." 2 Tim 4:6-8   (KJV)

The books of Oswald Chambers are wonderful.  I have 'My Utmost For His Highest'  and it is a great daily reading.  It is worth reading for the rest of one's life.  God Bless.

Papa John, sure sorry to read that you are having the appetite problem again.  If I recall you had that problem some time ago also.  Hope those shots help the pain.

Ruth Ann, congratulations on that new grandbaby.  Isn't it interesting that when there is a baby in the room it is very difficult to keep your eyes off of it.  Sort of a magnet.  It sounds like the bonding has already occurred with her bigger sister.

Pat, I sure hope that Iain is able to get his computer back in operation and he will be able to recover the lost data from his website (if that is what he lost with the faulty CDs.)  I am looking forward to his return to our site here and resuming his wonderful devotional thoughts.  What a nice surprise you had in hearing from Janice.  Do hope this is the day that Earl gets to go home.

Marilyn, you have certainly developed a busy schedule in a very short time at your new location.  It sounds like you will have a quiet weekend with your family away for a few days.  Hope your dog will start eating today.

Ruth, I asked my wife if she has a pattern for a quilted casserole cover and she thinks she does and is now looking for one for you.  She has a pattern for a non-quilted one that uses old ironing board cover insulated material.  I will send you a private message if she finds something for you.

Etta Sue, sure hope you find Jerry feeling better today.  There will probably be some up days and some down days during this rehab process.  I agree with you on not really caring to talk a lot on the phone.  I found the address book on the cellphone to be a very handy thing to have and easy to set up once you get the hang of it.  We have gone to a prepaid cell phone service and it will cost about 1/3 of what we paid last year but still gives us the comfort of having when in the car.

Elizabeth, even though we know that death is not the end it is very hard for us to face losing a person we love or care for deeply.  I am sure Al truly appreciates your friendship and support.

Jane, that is really a large book.  I know you will get a lot of spiritual food from it.  I am going to look in our church library to see if we have that book.  It sounds like a book I would like to own along with the book that Al Moak mentioned a few days ago.  Your heart must have filled with joy when you got the letter from your Grandson and I hope this is the beginning of a long relationship with him.  

Jenny, always good to read your positive postings and hope you enjoy the nice day (probably evening by now).

Janet, that is a wonderful name that Beth chose for her new puppy.  I haven't looked at the pictures you have posted of it yet but will do so later today.  It sounds like Abby is keeping you busy.

Oh, Jane!  How wonderful that your # 1 grandson wrote to you!  I am rejoicing with you over that good news!  It is so painful for there to be rifts in the family, even when we do everything in our power to keep our loved ones close.  I have one daughter who is very "prickly" and hard to get along with......it seems to just be me she has problems with (and Beth, too, but there is some jealousy there, which is nuts!)  But I keep trying and trying.  I often phone her and then after hanging up, have a good cry.  Then I just have to turn it over to the Lord, because I have done all I know to do.

I hope this letter is the beginning of many happy years of relationship with Tim, and a healing of things with the others as well.  God bless all of you.

I can understand how you feel re: rifts in the family.  My sister and I have never spoken in almost 5 years.  Its all over "money", my parents who were such fine Christians, would be heart broken if they knew.

My sister wants nothing to do with spiritual things.

I'm deleting her registration so she can start over.  LOL

I'm sorry that I cannot respond to everyone who wrote to me this morning.  I read all your good wishes and know you are wishing me well in regards to my eldest grandson.  I just can't spend that much time, at the moment, to write to each of you individually.

Tim is my daughter Jean's firstborn.  He will be 30 years old in December.  He has two sons, ages 7 and 3, but I have not seen them since the youngest was born.     Tim is an MP and has been in Iraq since April.  When he is not in the Army Reserve he is a deputy sheriff in Eldorado County, California.  Circumstances and attitudes and a lot of other "stuff" has caused him and his brother Dave to be rejected by their stepdad since before Jean's death.  I didn't think I would ever again see or be in contact with either of them, because no one would give me their address or phone numbers or any information about them.  It took a lot of doing to pry Tim's APO address out of his sister a few months ago.  

Actually, I seldom get to talk with the girls either,  Tricia is 17 and Laura is 15, and were only 12 and 14 when they lost their mother.  Most of the time, when I call there, their dad says they aren't home.  I don't know if they are or not, but I do recall he did the same thing with Jean whenever I'd call. (Tell me she couldn't talk or was sleeping and she'd be sitting right beside him)    It just so happened I must have caught him off guard this time when I called and asked if the girls were home.  

Anyway, I am more than happy ... I'm ecstatic ... that Tim wrote to me.  And I thank each one of you, my friends, for being happy for me, too.  I just pray that this is not the only letter or contact from him.  I wonder if it would be too much to expect some word from Dave, now.
