Saw it swoop down, pluck the branch off of the beach and fly back to the nest . All very methodical. It flew directlly to the twig,which was 150 yards away. I don't know if it had it preselected or saw it from the nest. I hear they have really sharp sight.  Earlier I saw one dive several hundred feet , go completely under the water and come back up with a fish. I photographed the whole event but it was too far away to be good photographs. I'll catch it closer and share soon.

Yes, that is a band. Quite a few are banded. There seems to be dozens of mating pairs in the area. Not rare at all. They winter in South America and returned recently.

 Great Shot  If I may ask what kind of bazooka (Telephoto Lense or equipment) did you use to shoot this.

 I have a lakefront home (small lake) and there is an osprey which stops over during the migration. I've seen him take fish and it is really something to behold. They are beautiful creatures and I wish they were common in my neck of the woods.

They are one of my favorites. I shoot a Canon 7D and a 100-400L for almost everything. Also have a 15-85 EFS.
