JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Good Afternoon everyone. I hope you are all having a very blessed day. I have been to have my nails done, to the gym and to Dollar Tree for a few things. I made a batch of Rocky Road Fudge in between the Gym and going to the mall.

We will be going to California on Saturday and back home on Monday. The dogs will be boarded again. I don't think they are going to like that again so soon.

Janet I was worried about the blizzard conditions  around your home. Glad you checked in, good to see you.

Tiny peanut brittle burn on my little finger - gosh, how that did hurt.  I have only made two batches & stopped to set the dining room up.  Things are all on track. Snow is arriving today & tomorrow.  I saw pictures of Garden City, Kansas and that is close enough to Janet.  Yes, we always need the moisture & snow is a slow melt so that is good.

Marilyn:  Rocky Road Fudge sounds wonderful.

Larry:  My cousin & her husband are so booked that they can barely find time to visit with her own relatives.  I find it hard to like especially two couples who phone and say they are coming & then they don't want to drive around so they are chauffeured all over for yes, two or three weeks.  What are you doing for Christmas weekend?  We have everyone here Friday night and go to one son's house on Sat night and Sunday afternoon is another son's house.

People are stealing packages around here and we are waiting for two things.  Ugh

Etta Sue I have been wondering about her too for some time now.

This is just a story.  But it is also a good reminder.  Thank you RuthV

CHRISTMAS AT THE GAS STATION!

-The old man sat in his gas station on a cold Christmas Eve. He
hadn't been anywhere in years since his wife had passed away. It was
just another day to him. He didn't hate Christmas, just couldn't find
a reason to celebrate.
He
was sitting there looking at the snow that had been falling for the
last hour and wondering what it was all about when the door opened
and a homeless man stepped through.

Instead of throwing the man out, Old George as he was known by his
customers, told the man to come and sit by the heater and warm up.
"Thank you, but I don't mean to intrude," said the stranger. "I see
you're busy, I'll just go."

"Not without something hot in your belly." George said.

He turned and opened a wide mouth Thermos and handed it to the stranger.
"It
ain't much, but it's hot and tasty. Stew ... Made it myself. When
you're done, there's coffee and it's fresh."

Just at that moment he heard the "ding" of the driveway bell. "Excuse
me, be right back," George said. There in the driveway was an old '53
Chevy.
Steam
was rolling out of the front. The driver was panicked. "Mister can
you help me!" said the driver, with a deep Spanish accent. "My wife
is with child and my car is broken." George opened the hood. It was
bad. The block looked cracked from the cold, the car was dead.

"You ain't going in this thing," George said as he turned away.

"But Mister, please help ..." The door of the office closed behind
George as he went inside. He went to the office wall and got the keys
to his old truck, and went back outside. He walked around the
building, opened the garage, started the truck and drove it around to
where the couple was waiting. "Here, take my truck," he said. "She
ain't the best thing you ever looked at, but she runs real good."

George helped put the woman in the truck and watched as it sped off
into the night. He turned and walked back inside the office. "Glad I
gave 'em the truck, their tires were shot too. That 'ol truck has
brand new ." George thought he was talking to the stranger, but the
man had gone. The Thermos was on the desk, empty, with a used coffee
cup beside it. "Well, at least he got something in his belly," George
thought.

George went back outside to see if the old Chevy would start. It
cranked slowly, but it started. He pulled it into the garage where
the truck had been. He thought he would tinker with it for something
to do. Christmas Eve meant no customers. He discovered the the block
hadn't cracked, it was just the bottom hose on the radiator. "Well,
shoot, I can fix this," he said to himself. So he put a new one on.

"Those tires ain't gonna get 'em through the winter either." He took
the snow treads off of his wife's old Lincoln. They were like new and
he wasn't going to drive the car anyway.

As he was working, he heard shots being fired. He ran outside and
beside a police car an officer lay on the cold ground. Bleeding from
the left shoulder, the officer moaned, "Please help me."

George helped the officer inside as he remembered the training he had
received in the Army as a medic. He knew the wound needed attention.
"Pressure to stop the bleeding," he thought. The uniform company had
been there that morning and had left clean shop towels. He used those
and duct tape to bind the wound. "Hey, they say duct tape can fix
anythin'," he said, trying to make the policeman feel at ease.

"Something for pain," George thought. All he had was the pills he
used for his back. "These ought to work." He put some water in a cup
and gave the policeman the pills. "You hang in there, I'm going to
get you an ambulance."

The phone was dead. "Maybe I can get one of your buddies on that
there talk box out in your car." He went out only to find that a
bullet had gone into the dashboard destroying the two way radio.

He went back in to find the policeman sitting up. "Thanks," said the
officer. "You could have left me there. The guy that shot me is still
in the area."

George sat down beside him, "I would never leave an injured man in
the Army and I ain't gonna leave you." George pulled back the bandage
to check for bleeding. "Looks worse than what it is. Bullet passed
right through 'ya.
Good thing it missed the important stuff though. I think with time
your gonna be right as rain."

George got up and poured a cup of coffee. "How do you take it?" he asked.

"None for me," said the officer.

"Oh, yer gonna drink this. Best in the city. Too bad I ain't got no
donuts." The officer laughed and winced at the same time.

The front door of the office flew open. In burst a young man with a gun.
"Give me all your cash! Do it now!" the young man yelled. His hand
was shaking and George could tell that he had never done anything
like this before.

"That's the guy that shot me!" exclaimed the officer.

"Son, why are you doing this?" asked George, "You need to put the
cannon away. Somebody else might get hurt."

The young man was confused. "Shut up old man, or I'll shoot you, too.
Now give me the cash!"

The cop was reaching for his gun. "Put that thing away," George said
to the cop, "we got one too many in here now."

He turned his attention to the young man. "Son, it's Christmas Eve.
If you need money, well then, here. It ain't much but it's all I got.
Now put that pea shooter away."

George pulled $150 out of his pocket and handed it to the young man,
reaching for the barrel of the gun at the same time. The young man
released his grip on the gun, fell to his knees and began to cry.
"I'm not very good at this am I? All I wanted was to buy something
for my wife and son," he went on. "I've lost my job, my rent is due,
my car got repossessed last week."

George handed the gun to the cop. "Son, we all get in a bit of
squeeze now and then. The road gets hard sometimes, but we make it
through the best we can."

He got the young man to his feet, and sat him down on a chair across
from the cop. "Sometimes we do stupid things." George handed the
young man a cup of coffee. "Bein' stupid is one of the things that
makes us human. Comin'
in
here with a gun ain't the answer. Now sit there and get warm and
we'll sort this thing out."

The young man had stopped crying. He looked over to the cop. "Sorry I
shot you. It just went off. I'm sorry officer."

"Shut up and drink your coffee " the cop said.

George could hear the sounds of sirens outside. A police car and an
ambulance skidded to a halt. Two cops came through the door, guns drawn.
"Chuck! You ok?" one of the cops asked the wounded officer.

"Not bad for a guy who took a bullet. How did you find me?"

"GPS locator in the car. Best thing since sliced bread. Who did this?"
the
other cop asked as he approached the young man.

Chuck answered him, "I don't know. The guy ran off into the dark.
Just dropped his gun and ran."

George and the young man both looked puzzled at each other.

"That guy work here?" the wounded cop continued.

"Yep," George said, "just hired him this morning. Boy lost his job."

The paramedics came in and loaded Chuck onto the stretcher. The young
man leaned over the wounded cop and whispered, "Why?"

Chuck just said, "Merry Christmas boy .. and you too, George, and
thanks for everything."

"Well, looks like you got one doozy of a break there. That ought to
solve some of your problems."

George went into the back room and came out with a box. He pulled out
a ring box. "Here you go, something for the little woman. I don't
think Martha would mind. She said it would come in handy some day."

The young man looked inside to see the biggest diamond ring he ever saw.
"I
can't take this," said the young man. "It means something to you."

"And now it means something to you," replied George. "I got my memories.
That's all I need."

George reached into the box again. An airplane, a car and a truck
appeared next. They were toys that the oil company had left for him
to sell.
"Here's
something for that little man of yours."

The young man began to cry again as he handed back the $150 that the
old man had handed him earlier.

"And what are you supposed to buy Christmas dinner with? You keep
that too,"
George said. "Now git home to your family."

The young man turned with tears streaming down his face. "I'll be
here in the morning for work, if that job offer is still good."

"Nope. I'm closed Christmas day," George said. "See ya the day after."

George turned around to find that the stranger had returned. "Where'd
you come from? I thought you left?"

"I have been here. I have always been here," said the stranger. "You
say you don't celebrate Christmas. Why?"

"Well, after my wife passed away, I just couldn't see what all the
bother was. Puttin' up a tree and all seemed a waste of a good pine tree.
Bakin'
cookies like I used to with Martha just wasn't the same by myself and
besides I was gettin' a little chubby."

The stranger put his hand on George's shoulder. "But you do celebrate
the holiday, George. You gave me food and drink and warmed me when I
was cold and hungry. The woman with child will bear a son and he will
become a great doctor.

The policeman you helped will go on to save 19 people from being
killed by terrorists. The young man who tried to rob you will make
you a rich man and not take any for himself. "That is the spirit of
the season and you keep it as good as any man."

George was taken aback by all this stranger had said. "And how do you
know all this?" asked the old man.

"Trust me, George. I have the inside track on this sort of thing. And
when your days are done you will be with Martha again."

The stranger moved toward the door. "If you will excuse me, George, I
have to go now. I have to go home where there is a big celebration
planned."

George watched as the old leather jacket and the torn pants that the
stranger was wearing turned into a white robe. A golden light began
to fill the room.

"You see, George ... it's My birthday. Merry Christmas."

George fell to his knees and replied, "Happy Birthday, Lord Jesus"

Merry Christmas!!

This story is better than any greeting card.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND GOD BLESS!

Thou Didst Leave Thy Throne
(Click to hear music)

Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant,
and was made in the likeness of men
Philippians 2:6-7

Words: Emily E. Elliott, 1864

Music: Timothy R. Matthews, 1876

Thou didst leave Thy throne and Thy kingly crown,
When Thou camest to earth for me;
But in Bethlehem?s home was there found no room
For Thy holy nativity.

Refrain
O come to my heart, Lord Jesus,
There is room in my heart for Thee.

Heaven?s arches rang when the angels sang,
Proclaiming Thy royal degree;
But of lowly birth didst Thou come to earth,
And in great humility.

Refrain

The foxes found rest, and the birds their nest
In the shade of the forest tree;
But Thy couch was the sod, O Thou Son of God,
In the deserts of Galilee.

Refrain

Thou camest, O Lord, with the living Word,
That should set Thy people free;
But with mocking scorn and with crown of thorn,
They bore Thee to Calvary.

Refrain

When the heavens shall ring, and the angels sing,
At Thy coming to victory,
Let Thy voice call me home, saying "Yet there is room,
There is room at My side for thee."

My heart shall rejoice, Lord Jesus,
When Thou comest and callest for me.

Hi everyone.  We had a rainy day yesterday but it was warm.  We are expecting more of the same today with it suppose to get up to about 74 degrees where I live.  Other than coffee this morning my schedule is clear for the day unless Pat decides there is something she needs me to do.  She wanted to read me her list yesterday but I graciously declined.  However, that won't change the situation but just delay it.  She did make fudge yesterday but added too much marshmallow creme and it looks like blond fudge.  However, it still tastes good.  This morning at coffee at McDonald's we are giving the lady who takes care of the dining area in the mornings and treats us go kindly a nice monetary gift to show our appreciation.  She knows each of us by name, comes and checks on us each morning to see if we need a refill and take any trays away to dump the trash.  She is just a very nice person who is a joy to be around.

Etta Sue, it has been a long time since Mieka participated with us here on the Internet.

Marilyn, you have a busy weekend planned with your trip to California.  I like rocky road anything and just last night had some really good rocky road ice cream made by Turkey Hill.

Carol, that hot liquid of peanut brittle sounds very painful.  However, I bet the candy is delicious.  How many batches are you having to make?  Hope you all don't get snowed in for Christmas.  We are just having our son, DIL, daughter and the friend of our DIL's, who had no place to go to be with friends or family, here for Christmas day.  We have a pretty laid back Christmas with a nice finger-food type meal and then after cleanup we open our packages.  We are looking forward to the day.  I will pick our daughter up on Saturday and take her home on Monday so she will be with us for two nights.  What a shame that people are stealing packages.  It has always worried me to see UPS or others leave packages outside the door or in front of the garage.  So far have never lost anything.

Judy, that is a good story reminding us of the reason for the season.

Etta Sue

Well, just five days after finishing the first Chemo Wrap, I finished another one.  Now I have started another yellow/orange one but this time I am going from dark to light instead of light to dark.  I posted it on FB for all my FB friends!

Today is Euchre at a restaurant.  Jane just called and said she would pick me up at 10:45am.  Better get dressed!!

Hark the Herald Angels Sing
(Click to hear music)

A great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, saying,
"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom His favor rests."
Luke 2:13-14

Words: Charles Wesley, Hymns and Sacred Poems, 1739

Music:Music: "Mendelssohn," Felix Mendelssohn, in his cantata Festgesang, 1840, honoring printer Johann Gutenberg; arranged by William H. Cummings in Congregational Hymn and Tune Book, by R. R. Chope, 1857

Hark! The herald angels sing,
"Glory to the newborn King;
Peace on earth, and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled!"
Joyful, all ye nations rise,
Join the triumph of the skies;
With th'angelic host proclaim,
"Christ is born in Bethlehem!"

Refrain
Hark! the herald angels sing,
"Glory to the newborn King!"

Christ, by highest heav'n adored;
Christ the everlasting Lord;
Late in time, behold Him come,
Offspring of a virgin's womb.
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see;
Hail th'incarnate Deity,
Pleased with us in flesh to dwell,
Jesus our Emmanuel.

Refrain

Hail the heav'nly Prince of Peace!
Hail the Sun of Righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings,
Ris'n with healing in His wings.
Mild He lays His glory by,
Born that man no more may die.
Born to raise the sons of earth,
Born to give them second birth.

Refrain

Come, Desire of nations, come,
Fix in us Thy humble home;
Rise, the woman's conqu'ring Seed,
Bruise in us the serpent's head.
Now display Thy saving power,
Ruined nature now restore;
Now in mystic union join
Thine to ours, and ours to Thine.

Refrain

Adam's likeness, Lord, efface,
Stamp Thine image in its place:
Second Adam from above,
Reinstate us in Thy love.
Let us Thee, though lost, regain,
Thee, the Life, the inner man:
O, to all Thyself impart,
Formed in each believing heart.

Refrain

Here is Charles Wesley's original version:

Hark, how all the welkin rings,
"Glory to the King of kings;
Peace on earth, and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled!"

Joyful, all ye nations, rise,
Join the triumph of the skies;
Universal nature say,
"Christ the Lord is born to-day!"

Christ, by highest Heaven ador'd,
Christ, the everlasting Lord:
Late in time behold him come,
Offspring of a Virgin?s womb!

Veiled in flesh, the Godhead see,
Hail the incarnate deity!
Pleased as man with men to appear,
Jesus! Our Immanuel here!

Hail, the heavenly Prince of Peace!
Hail, the Sun of Righteousness!
Light and life to all he brings,
Risen with healing in his wings.

Mild He lays his glory by,
Born that man no more may die;
Born to raise the sons of earth;
Born to give them second birth.

Come, Desire of nations, come,
Fix in us thy humble home;
Rise, the woman's conquering seed,
Bruise in us the serpent's head.

Now display thy saving power,
Ruined nature now restore;
Now in mystic union join
Thine to ours, and ours to thine.

Adam's likeness, Lord, efface;
Stamp Thy image in its place.
Second Adam from above,
Reinstate us in thy love.

Let us Thee, though lost, regain,
Thee, the life, the inner Man:
O! to all thyself impart,
Form'd in each believing heart.

Hello everyone!  I am finally back!  Diane and Abby were here on Tuesday evening, and shortly after they left, my phone rang, and it was Abby.  She was calling to tell me that they saw 13 deer in the field near our house!  Wow, that's a lot.

The streets in our little town are terrible.  We had thought we'd go to Garden City to finish our shopping today, but really didn't want to go, and didn't know if they clear their streets better than here...anyway, we stayed home.  I wrapped all the gifts I have yesterday, and have a little something for everyone.  We told them all we were cutting way down on the buying this year, and we surely have.  I would rather give to those in need than just buy for the sake of giving to my loved ones who already have so much.  I know they will understand.

Etta Sue, you are really making fast progress on those Chemo Wraps!  What a blessing...God bless you!

Hi, Marilyn.  Hope your hand is better.

Carol, I know that hot syrup would make such a painful burn!  Ouch!  Bet the peanut brittle is delicious, though.  Lucky "kids."

Judy, thanks for the Christmas music.  Hope all is well at your house.

I wish we could hear from sweet Mieka, too.  I miss her and pray all is well with her.  She seems to have made an indelible impression on all of us here.  Pat, do you ever hear anything from her?

Ruth Ann, are you getting to take it a little easier now?  I hope so!

Hello, Larry.  Thank you for those two videos you posted links to, I watched and enjoyed them so much!

We have decided to stay home on Christmas eve, and have supper with just us and Beth and John.  The rest of the family are going to Curtis' house, which has very high, steep steps, and there is no way to get Beth into it.  I don't want to leave them here alone, so we will just stay here and have a more peaceful evening.  On Sunday, we are cooking the dinner, and it will either be here--if the cabinets are nearer to being finished--or at Diane's, if not.  Both our church and theirs are having short morning services with communion.

The first proof of my book is on its way to me!!  I am SO EXCITED!! It seems like it has been such a long time, but not as long as is usual, they tell me!  It should arrive while John is still here!  Thank you, Jesus!

I got to see a photo of the complete cover--front, spine and back, and now I know the price they put on it.  (It is $14.99)  Beth says she hopes we sell a million copies!   ;)

I need to address a few more cards.  See you later!

O Holy Night
(Click to hear music)

O Holy night, the stars are brightly shining
It is the night of our dear Savior's birth
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Til He appeared and the soul felt it's worth
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoyces
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn
Fall on your knees

O hear the angel voices
O night divine!
O night when Christ was born
O night divine!
O night, O night divine!

And in His Name, all oppression shall cease
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we
Let all within us praise his holy name
Christ is the Lord!
Their name forever praise we

I had a long "to do" list today.  All items are done but tomorrow there is another "list".  By making a list I find i am more organized.

Thank you Jeanne for the Carol.  One of my favourites as well.

Janet you have snow.....and we are having a green/brown Christmas!

Etta Sue you are really moving at those wraps!

Larry my internet isn't fast or reliable enough to watch a video.  My frustration level with my provider and dial-up is increasing.   To get High speed I have to go with Satelite and pay 350 before they even come to the house to see if it will work here.  Every provider we have talked to have quoted the same prices.  They are all in cahoots I think!

Everyone I have missed I have read your posts.  God bless you tonight and in the coming days as we ponder our Lords birth.

Janet

My 'proof' book was mailed today!  Now, I just have to go over it with a fine toothed comb, looking for typos, etc. sign a final approval, order books......and should have them in hand in about four weeks!!  YIPPEE!!

Hi everyone.  We had an interesting evening with tornado watches all over the area, heavy rains and continual TV news coverage of the storm with some pretty sophisticated new weather equipment that is pretty amazing.  Fortunately, our area was spared the high winds and brunt of the storm with only some pretty heavy rain.  Today should be a lot brighter.  It got ot 70 or above yesterday, which tied the record set in the 1800's for warmest on that date.  Nothing to talk about yesterday other than it was an enjoyable day.  Today should be equally as quiet.  I do have a few packages to wrap and I am sure Pat will do a few other things in preparation for Christmas as is having to spread things out in order to accomplish them.  We are going to have the Christmas meal in our dining room.  We haven't used that room for dining in a long while.  We have the table all ready with the cloth and decorations.  Other than coffee at the senior center in a few minutes there is nothing else I know I have to do today that requires me being away from the house.

Janet, one time when we were trying back through Iowa we saw a large heard of dear in a field along side the road.  Needless to say I slowed way down so would be able to stop if one or more of them decided to cross the road.  It was quite a sight.  We are like you in that our gifts are smaller and only one or two for each person.  It is the getting together that is the important part of Christmas and not the gifts--at least that is how I see it.  What a Christmas gift to you to get to see your new book in book format.  I hope you sell a million copies of the book as well.  Will it be available on Amazon?  I should think it would be the editor's and proofreaders job to spot any typos.

Judy, that price to see if you can get satellite would be a stopper for me as well.  I think you do very well with the dial-up.  However, I sure would hate to go back to it.

Jeanne Lee

Janet, what a great Christmas present to get the first proof of your book!      :cheer:

Judy, $350!!!  That sounds outrageous.   :yikes:  It would sure put a stop to me getting any hook up.

Yesterday was a full and wonderful one for me.  First my new washing machine was delivered and installed right on schedule and I began catching up with accumulated laundry.   Then a quick "lick and a promise" for the house before a blessed visit from my pastor and one of our deacons.  All in all, a very satisfactory day.

And this morning, after a J night,  the predicted snow turned out to be rain.

God is good.

A Season of Wonder

Today's Scripture:  Anna, a prophet, was also there in the Temple ... She was eighty-four years old.  She never left the Temple but stayed there day and night,          worshipping God with fasting and prayer.  She came along just as Simeon was talking with Mary and Joseph, and she began praising God.  She talked about Jesus to everyone who had been waiting for the promised King to come and deliver Jerusalem

(Luke 2:36-38, NLT).

Point to Ponder:  Dear God, I think about You sometimes even when I'm not praying.  Elliott

Today's Prayer:   My soul and all its powers Thine, wholly Thine shall be;  All, all my happy hours I consecrate to Thee.    –Charles Wesley

Words: Traditional French carol (Les Anges dans nos Campagnes). Translated from French to English by James Chadwick (1813-1882); appeared in Crown of Jesus, 1862

Music: "Gloria (Barnes)," French carol melody; arranged by Edward S. Barnes

Angels we have heard on high
Sweetly singing o'er the plains,
And the mountains in reply
Echoing their joyous strains.

Refrain

Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!

Shepherds, why this jubilee?
Why your joyous strains prolong?
What the gladsome tidings be
Which inspire your heavenly song?

Refrain

Come to Bethlehem and see
Christ Whose birth the angels sing;
Come, adore on bended knee,
Christ the Lord, the newborn King.

Refrain

See Him in a manger laid,
Whom the choirs of angels praise;
Mary, Joseph, lend your aid,
While our hearts in love we raise.

Refrain

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

An alternate translation, by George Ratcliffe Woodward (1848-1934):

Shepherds in the field abiding,
Tell us when the seraph bright
Greeted you with wondrous tiding,
What you saw and heard that night.

Refrain

We beheld—it is no fable—
God incarnate, King of bliss,
Swathed and cradled in a stable,
And the angel strain was this:

Refrain

Choristers on high were singing
Jesus and His virgin birth,
Heavenly bells the while a-ringing
"Peace, good will to men on earth."

Refrain

These are a bit late due to my eye surgery but... better late than never.  We've found them so interesting and enlightening in our morning devotionals.

"The Twelve Days of Christmas VI"
By Dr. Tim Green

"And she brought forth her first born son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn."  Luke 2:7

I have done a little traveling in my days as a full-time evangelist.  I fly most of the time to meetings and have for many years.  Usually the pastor or church has secured my accommodations well in advance.  However, I have driven to meetings and left after the last service and driven until I couldn't stay awake.  I have then started to search for a hotel room.  Well, you know how that could be, "NO VACANCY" signs flashing their unwelcome message!

Mary and Joseph came slowly into Bethlehem and could not locate suitable lodging.  My thought this day of Christmas focuses on the hostelry business and the innkeepers of the little town of Bethlehem.  I know the town was full because of the taxation, but where was the sympathy for a couple about to become THREE?  I would think Joseph would have explained to the managers of these middle eastern motels that his bride was about to give birth.

Finally, they find a somewhat compassionate host and end up in the stable!  How do you think that innkeeper felt if he ever discovered Who was born there in his barn?  What do you suppose the other keepers of inns used as excuses later to describe their "No Room" for the Messiah mania?  Lot of people today seem to have "No Room" for Jesus Christ.  No room in their busy schedules and business practices.  No room in their personal lives or the problems encountered.  To have no room in your heart for Him, will one day conclude with no room in Heaven for you.  He came to a manger that you might one day dwell in a mansion!  (cf John 14:2)

I wanna book!  I wanna book!  Order one for me and let me know how to pay for it!  Can't wait to read a book that I know the author!!

Euchre was fun yesterday at a restaurant!   No fuss.  No clean up.  We paid for our lunches and then played cards!  I was home by 5pm.  Great!

Then it was TV and crocheting.  My 3rd Chemo Wrap is about 10 inches wide.  It starts fast...then slows down the bigger it gets!

I got a surprise today.  My neighbor across the road called and then brought a small loaf of Pumpkin Bread to me.  She was on her way to work...a few hours today.  Her and her husband, my first husband and I used to square dance together.  That was before their first child so probably 45 years ago!

Today is partly sunny.  The weather guessers are predicting snow for Christmas.  If I look out and everything is white, then I will know they were right!  Otherwise....

"The Twelve Days of Christmas VII"
By Dr. Tim Green
Revival in our Time, Day Heights, OH

"And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger."  Luke 2:16

There were shepherds nestled in the Judaean hills, watching their sheep, and probably huddled around flickering, warming camp fires.  Their monotonous midnight was about to become mightily miraculous!  An angel came, his message declared, and then a multitude of the heavenly host began to sing!

In double-time they rushed into Bethlehem, and found themselves staring into the strange light of the stable and the Saviour wrapped in swaddling clothes.  The delivery room was unsterile, but the child there was pure and clean.  The accommodations were not the most comfortable, but the One in the manger would bring comfort to man.  The usual occupants of the barn were lowing and cooing in a cacophony of sound, but the child would bring peace (vs. 14).

What part did these simple shepherds play on the opening night of the eternal Christmas play?  They came as humble, willing adherents to the truths of the heavenly messengers that had been declared to them.  They did not keep the wondrous message of the Messiah to themselves, they spread it to all.  For, "When they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child" (vs. 17).  They also got excited and shared their praise for the blessed event, "And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen,..." (vs. 20).

This season is one of the best times of the year to share and spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  People's minds and hearts seem to be open and receptive.  Why not join the shepherds and tell others of the Saviour this Christmas?

While Shepards Watched Their Flocks
(Click to hear music)

"There were shepherds living out in the fields nearby,
keeping watch over their flocks at night."
Luke 2:8-9

Words: Nahum Tate, 1700

Music: "Christmas," George F. Handel

While shepherds watched their flocks by night,
All seated on the ground,
The angel of the Lord came down,
And glory shone around,
And glory shone around.

"Fear not!" said he, for mighty dread
Had seized their troubled mind.
"Glad tidings of great joy I bring
To you and all mankind
To you and all mankind.

"To you, in David's town, this day
Is born of David's line
A Savior, who is Christ the Lord,
And this shall be the sign,
And this shall be the sign.

"The heavenly Babe you there shall find
To human view displayed,
All meanly wrapped in swathing bands,
And in a manger laid,
And in a manger laid."

Thus spake the seraph and forthwith
Appeared a shining throng
Of angels praising God on high,
Who thus addressed their song,
Who thus addressed their song:

"All glory be to God on high,
And to the Earth be peace;
Good will henceforth from heaven to men
Begin and never cease,
Begin and never cease!"

"The Twelve Days of Christmas VIII"
By Dr. Tim Green
Revival in our Time, Day Heights, OH

"And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon:..."  Luke 2:25a
"And there was one Anna, ...gave thanks...and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem."  Luke 2:36a & 38

The actors on the stage today really show up on the eighth day of the babe's life on earth, but they are interesting supporting characters and deserve a day's worth of recognition.

First, we see the sainted, sage, Simeon.  He was a good man and Spirit-filled.  He was "tuned-in" to the Lord's leading and had received by faith the promises of God.  Having been directed by deity to the temple, he observes the desire of his heart—Jesus!  Taking the child from Mary, he exclaims with shouts of joy that his old eyes have seen salvation!  He utters forth a prophecy that will be fulfilled in just three and a third decades concerning this little One.

Next, the comely family encounters an ancient, crone-like lady named Anna.  Anna's fragile voice joins in unison with Simeon and speaks of the young son of Mary as the Redeemer.

What must this young couple have thought about all the "hub-bub" surrounding their baby boy?  Verse 33 of the second chapter of Luke says they marveled at the things which were spoken of Him.  I know we have twenty centuries of church history and a Bible to believe concerning the Christ, but this dear pair must have been flustered and flabbergasted in these opening hours of Jesus residing in their home and family.  I know, if you're saved, the impact of Immanuel abiding in your heart and life has been immeasurable.  Thank God He abides forever with us, yes, God with us (cf. Matt. 1:23).

Etta Sue, your post put a BIG smile on my face!  And I will surely let you know as soon as I get the first shipment of books!  Nice surprise you had with the pumpkin bread.

Larry, eventually the book will be available on Amazon, but for six months, they give the author the right to sell the books, thus giving them a chance to recoup the several thousand dollars paid upfront when the contract was signed.  When they sell on Amazon the author gets a paltry 17c per book.  :(  :-\  So that means I will be doing all I can to promote Rising Above as soon as they are available to me!

It was 2* here when I got up this morning!  It is in the high teens now, I think, but the sun is shining.  I hope the roads will thaw off some, as the streets are really terrible in town, and the KDOT is advising people not to travel anywhere unless absolutely necessary.

We are getting some upper cabinets installed today!  Woo-hoo!!  Maybe we will have a complete kitchen someday yet!

My dear friend Maxine who painted with me for years is turning 95 tomorrow, so they had cakes for her today at the senior center.  She insisted that I take some to Beth and John, which I did.  She is such a sweetheart!

We didn't get mail yesterday, but they sent it out on the routes again today, so I hope they make it here.

Later, peeps!

Ohh, Janet, what a lovely age she has reached!  That's really an accomplishment!

Wonderful messages today. Thankfully, I'm rested enough to get ready to begin enjoying the holiday season tomorrow. :)

It was great to have dinner with friends, and then to pick up and sneakily deliver a little gift to a friend (anonymously - it's so nice doors have doorknobs where a person can hang things). ;)

Pat, we're hoping and praying that your eye surgery recovery time will be brief and successful. We love you.

That book sounds like a wonderful thing, Janet! Count me in, also. At one time I thought I would need to "read" the book by recording, but my eye has stabilized so I should be able to read it page by page.

Much love to all of you.

Ruth Ann
...his compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

We had a wonderful day! First, friends came to help us bring in more wood to keep us warm as the temperatures plummet.

Secondly we had a marvelous dinner at Pastor Larry's house; 10 of us altogether, JudyB and Bonsey included.

Thirdly, my son is coming up from Toronto, for Christmas. He will be here in about an hour and a half. I'll be going out in an hour to fetch him from the bus stop.

Janet, I would also like to get Rising Above from you as soon as you are selling them...... I'm not sure how we will get it to Canada, however I have ordered books from the AbeBooks website, so I don't think there will be any problem. I am very excited for you and Beth!!
