I think he wanted his belly rubbed, or he was trying to scratch his back. He useually gets a belly rub when he does this.

Our Cimi does the same thing.  Stretches out on her back for a "belly rub".  It streatches her joints and muscles as well.  She has the age for arthritis, and sleeps a lot curled in a ball.
