But when he was broken by his sin and rebellion, there came a longing for his father and a desire to be under his authority and discipline.

A mark of true repentance is a willingness to be under God's authority and to submit to Him.

Good morning, CP!

My son decided he needed to wake the roosters up, so here it is 8 AM, and we have been up a while    He used the excuse of "hungry" to get up, then ate approxiamately 2.34 bites of raisin bran.  Guess I should've fixed that soup he was asking for.

So, now we are up.  I'm at the computer because I'm not fully functionaly yet, and he is playing with his books and stuff.

Welcome to those who have joined in the last day or so!  Do not be afraid to come and join us, we are a pretty nice group (well, you have to look out for Chris and Lee, but you will get used to them quickly enough) and enjoy eachother's cyber-friendship.

Etta, how is Jerry doing?  Or, Jerry, if you see this, how are you doing?  I do miss your posts, you know!

It is cold outside, but I believe the wind has dissipated some.  I have a Mary Kay delivery in Hendersonville (where Bernard works) so we are going to eat lunch with him today.   YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes someone once said "You take one step towards The Father and He Runs towards you"...Amen!....He's just waiting for us to take that "First step"......like any parent, He's really thrilled about it when we do...so are the angels in Heaven.

Tremendous winds here today.  I managed to get one bag of leaves swept up in the entry but the leaves are banking up against the walls and it's too cold for me to do any more just yet. I feel too "crumbly". It's trying to rain, but too windy for that even.  The sky is black and it's extremely cold!...

That's the weather report from England...The good news is that...

GOD IS STILL ON THE THRONE AND HE WILL REMEMBER HIS OWN.....

I do praise and thank Him for warm food and clothing and heating.  I pray especially today for the homeless on  our streets...... Lord have mercy! Guide our hearts and minds into helping them..Please Father. In Jesus' Name.. Amen!

Welcome to Traser.  

Another fine devotional this morning, Pat.  Our sin has made us all prodigal son's and daughters and it is wonderful to know that the Saviour's arms are outstreatched towards us when we make the decision to freely and willingly accept him.  

We had our first freeze of the season last night but fortunately the strong wind of yesterday seems to be over and it is very bright, sunny and clear this morning.  I will leave in a few minutes to attend the volunteer's meeting at our SeniorNet Computer Learning Center and then will go to have lunch with the retirees from where I worked for so many years.  It has probably been a year or more since I attended the by-monthly retirees luncheons and have missed seeing my friends.  This always conflicts with our SeniorNet meetings but since I am no longer on the board I can leave the meeting early if necessary.  I just came back from our Friday morning men's coffee at the local senior center and always enjoy that.  Later this afternoon I am going to go back to help the lady that I helped yesterday.  She has a new color printer and we need to get anti-virus software installed on her computer.  So have a busy day planned and just hope I can hold up for it all.

Sorry to read about the snow and extreme cold weather up north.  That hail in Los Angeles was really something.  Jenny, we don't want you to blow away in the strong winds out there raking leaves.  Please be careful.

Karmat, these little ones work on their own time and eating agendas as you well know.  Just think of these days as memory builders.

Marilyn, I remember having a Turkey TV dinner once for Thanksgiving.  Wasn't too bad!  Also, my mother was going to spend Christmas day with my husband and I.  She said 'There is no need to cook.  We can eat out!'  I said, 'There is nothing open on Christmas Day!'  She said, 'We can eat in the hospital cafeteria...hospitals NEVER close!'  I COOKED!

Karmat ~ I do think that Jerry is doing great.  He has his bad days and his good days.  He is getting new brakes put on his car so that is encouraging.  He did drive to his doctor's office to pick up some medicine...that was good.  He said he didn't side-swipe any vehicles.  

Sarah ~ The newspapers around here is full of basketball news.  This is basketball country, you know?


I have already been to the bank.  At noon Ivalou, Kaye Don, Barb and I are to go somewhere to eat for Barb's birthday that will be Monday.  Kaye Don and Barb are the busy ones so today is the day to help her celebrate her birthday.  Then I want to do some more lessons on PSP.  I still have 7 more to do that was suppose to be done LAST Sunday!  I am behind....but then, I haven't published them anyway.

WE have more snow here today.  It is coming quite heavy.  John was asking if I think it will stay.  I don't know. I certainly hope not. I expect we will have a thaw by the first of December, but.......it may stay.

A warm fuzzy story for you today...........


The Big Wheel

In September 1960, I woke up one morning with six hungry
babies and just 75 cents in my pocket. Their father was
gone. The boys ranged from three months to seven years;
their sister was two.

Their Dad had never been much more than a presence they
feared. Whenever they heard his tires crunch on the gravel
driveway they would scramble to hide under their beds. He
did manage to leave $15 a week to buy groceries.

Now that he had decided to leave, there would be no more
beatings, but no food either. If there was a welfare system
in effect in southern Indiana at that time, I certainly knew
nothing about it. I scrubbed the kids until they looked
brand new, then put on my best homemade dress. I loaded them
into the rusty, old 51 Chevy and drove off to find a job.

The seven of us went to every factory, store and restaurant
in our small town. No luck. The kids stayed crammed into the
car and tried to be quiet while I tried to convince whomever
would listen that I was willing to learn or do anything. I
had to have a job... Still no luck.

The last place we went to, just a few miles out of town, was
an old Root Beer Barrel drive-in that had been converted to
a truck stop. It was called the Big Wheel. An old lady named
Granny owned the place, and she peeked out of the window from
time-to-time at all those kids. She needed someone on the
graveyard shift, 11 at night until seven in the morning. She
paid 65 cents an hour, and I could start that night.

I raced home and called the teenager down the street who
baby-sat for people. I bargained with her to come and sleep
on my sofa for a dollar a night. She could arrive with her
pajamas on, and the kids would already be asleep. This seemed
like a good arrangement to her, so we made a deal.

That night, when the little ones and I knelt to say our
prayers, we all thanked God for finding Mommy a job. And so,
I started at the Big Wheel. When I got home in the mornings,
I woke the baby-sitter up and sent her home with one dollar
of my tip money -- fully half of what I averaged every night.

As the weeks went by, heating bills added a strain to my
meager wage. The tires on the old Chevy had the consistency
of penny balloons and began to leak. I had to fill them with
air on the way to work and again every morning before I could
go home. One bleak fall morning, I dragged myself to the car
to go home and found four tires in the back seat. New tires!
There was no note, no nothing, just those beautiful brand new
tires. "Had angels taken up residence in Indiana?" I wondered.

I made a deal with the local service station. In exchange for
his mounting the new tires, I would clean up his office. I
remember it took me a lot longer to scrub his floor than it
did for him to do the tires.

I was now working six nights instead of five, and it still
wasn't enough. Christmas was coming, and I knew there would
be no money for toys for the kids. I found a can of red paint
and started repairing and painting some old toys. Then I hid
them in the basement, so there would be something for Santa
to deliver on Christmas morning. Clothes were a worry, too. I
was sewing patches on top of patches on the boy's pants, and
soon they would be too far gone to repair.

On Christmas Eve, the usual customers were drinking coffee in
the Big Wheel. These were the truckers, Les, Frank, and Jim,
and a state trooper named Joe. A few musicians were hanging
around after a gig at the Legion and were dropping nickels in
the pinball machine. The regulars all just sat around and
talked through the wee hours of the morning, then left to get
home before the sun came up.

When it was time for me to go home at seven o'clock on
Christmas morning, I hurried to the car. I was hoping the
kids wouldn't wake up before I managed to get home to get the
presents from the basement and place them under the tree. (We
had cut down a small cedar tree by the side of the road down
by the dump.) It was still dark, and I couldn't see much, but
there appeared to be some dark shadows in the car... or was
that just a trick of the night? Something certainly looked
different, but it was hard to tell what.

When I reached the car I peered warily into one of the side
windows. Then my jaw dropped in amazement. My old battered
Chevy was filled full to the top with boxes of all shapes and
sizes. I quickly opened the driver's side door, scrambled
inside and knelt in the front facing the back seat.

Reaching back, I pulled off the lid of the top box. Inside
was a whole case of little blue jeans, sizes 2-10! I looked
inside another box: It was full of shirts to go with the
jeans. Then I peeked inside some of the other boxes. There
was candy and nuts and bananas and bags of groceries. There
was an enormous ham for baking, and canned vegetables and
potatoes... There was pudding and Jell-O and cookies, pie
filling and flour. There was a whole bag of laundry supplies
and cleaning items. And there were five toy trucks and one
beautiful little doll.

As I drove back through empty streets, the sun slowly rose
on the most amazing Christmas Day of my life, and I was
sobbing with gratitude. I will never forget the joy on the
faces of my little ones that precious morning.

Yes, there were angels in Indiana that long-ago December.
And they all hung out at the Big Wheel truck stop.

This evening Savannah's Kid's Club group is putting on a show (recital) and this grandma is going to be there with camera in hand. You better believe I am comping home with pictures.

I have a pretty neat photo that I have entered in the DPchallenge. I sure would like to put it here but will have to wait till later.
