Morning Devotional...

Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God.
1 John 3:1

There is deep mystery surrounding this verse.

What manner of love!

It surely is vast and wondrous that it would cause the Apostle to think, Can it really be true?

Surely this must be an impossibility, that we--sinners of a fallen race--could have any relationship with God--the God that dwells in unapproachable light, whose character is awesome in holiness and whose ways are past finding out!

Mysterious?

Yes, but true, because of His love!
--Drew Craig

How Great Thou Art
(Click to hear music)

O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

Chorus:
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.

Chorus

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: "My God, how great Thou art!"

Chorus

           Stripping of the garments

You had nothing left but Your own cloak:
You were fond of it, Your Mother had woven it for You. But this too, had to go.
One thing only is necessary, Lord, Your Cross.

Nothing comes now between You and the cross,
You are going to be united forever,
And together You will save the world.

And so, Lord, I must give up all these trappings which hinder
and hide me from Your sight.
This 'possessing' which stifles the 'being' in me and separates me from others.
Thus, Lord, little by little everything in my life which is not an expression of Your will must die.

I don't like it, Lord. It's a question of dying!
How demanding You are!
I give, and You want more.
I'd like to keep a few trifles,
A few trifles I cling to, and can't bring myself to offer You.

But if You want all, Lord, take all.
Strip me, Yourself, of my last garment.
For I well know that we must die to deserve life,
As the seed must die to turn into the golden grain.

Michel Quoist

"The time has come now for the Son of Man to achieve His glory.  Believe me when I tell you this; a grain of wheat must fall into the ground and die, or else it remains nothing more than a grain of wheat; but if it dies, then it yields rich fruit." John 12: 23-24.

Hello Everyone I am just poping in to say hi and I am off to church. But before I go I will Check Out my Fave room first The Teen Room. Welcome Mr.Gregg and Mr.Monty

Well Im off to my room

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  Another beautiful day here in Georgia, a little overcast but see the sun popping through.  I am going to church this morning and then at 2 pm we are attending a memorial service for a friend who passed away on Thursday.  We belonged to the same church where we used to live and have known this couple for well about 13 years.  This evening there is a special dinner at the church and we will be working on identifying what we are seeking in a new pastor.  So this is going to be a very full day.

I had a very disturbing e-mail from my granddaughter this morning that she has been having terrible migraine headaches and had an MRI last Wednesday.  She saw the doctor on Friday and was told she has a brain tumor that will likely require surgery.  It is located in the area of the brain that controls vision and speech so, needless to say, she is very frightened.  I will post a prayer request in that folder but am requesting prayers for her here as well.  She just had a new baby on February 11th and has another child who was one year old last October.

JohnB

I am popping in for a minute.  Ruth Ann, I am wondering if you'd like to meet for a coffee?  I will be going through your area on Wednesday.  IM me if you are able to?

I am reposting yesterday's post.  I was in late last night. so here goes.

Hi CP Freinds. Well I made it home this afternoon and have just spent some time catching up on a weeks worth of postings. Some interesting dialoque. I find this interesting although somewhat lengthy due to my long absences.

I would like to welcome all the newcomers to CP. I see we got quite a number of them this week. Hope you folks will enjoy like the rest of us.

Had a busy week this week as I did 2 round trips to Virginia. When this happens it keeps me on the move to get it all done. The weather in Virginia was wonderful and the flowers are starting to coming up, the trees are beginning to bud and the magnoilia trees were in bloom. This is the positive part of my job. I get to enjoy about 3 months of spring and watch it move from the south to the north.
My dispatch has told me that next week I will be going to Guntown Mississppi which will bring down through Nashville and then out towards Jackson an area where I have not been to for 2 or 3 yrears. i am looking forward to this. I am trying to see if judy can join me on this one. She would enjoy it and give her a much needed break.

I was talking to Doug , my son today and he was looking for me earlier as the Company he and I work for had him take a set of trains to load, and he had never pulled trains before. For those who are not familiar with terminology, a set of trains is 2 trailers pulled in tandem behind one power unit. I have pulled these things and loved it and he has now had a taste of it as well. Apparently it went well and it seems that some of the talking I have done of my experiences served him well today, Way to go son. You can handle it. I guess I will have to watch out or you will go right on by me.

I am looking forward to having a couple of days at home before I leave again. Tommorrow is church and that is always a pleasent experience. I really enjoy our Pastor, as he is not only a pastor but also a friend. We always have a good time when we can get together.

Jenny it was interesting to see that you and I have a common interest in reading material. I find Steve Martini fascinating and have also started to read another author, Terri Blackstock, who writes a similar story line but form a Christian perspective and can be found over here in the Christian Bookstores. The publisher is Zondervan.

Pat you would have loved this trip to Virginia with all the new fresh blooms and beautiful weather. I could just picture you running around trying to get as many pictures as you could.

Well I,ll end for now but will be back this weekend. God Bless. Bonesy
Phil. 1: 21. For to me to live is Christ and to die is gain.

Larry. Just heard about your posting regarding your Grand daughter and would like to express our concerns for you and your family and let you know that you all will be prayed for. It is difficult to pass on comments in these situations as I often find that the pat answers and statements don,t meet the needs. Just remember that in this too God has a plan and he will work His plan for the good on the big picture. We need to find comfort in the fact that He is in control of the situation and that will be reveiled to us eventually if not in this life, then in eternity. Bless you folks. Keep us your CP family posted so we can know how to uphold you in prayer. Bonesy.

You probably told us before and it went right over the top of my head, Larry - is your church seeking a new pastor?  Well, anyway, I pray you and the rest will know exactly what to look for.  I pray you'll find the one He has for you.

Hi John,

I am back again as it's raining.  I had hoped to go for a scoot to the park this afternoon (it's 2.30 p.m. here in blighty)., anyway, I am having another visit with you all, hoping it will stop soon., It's sort of April showers early.

John I love the sound of the Magnolias in blossom and the trip through Virginia seems a dream journey.Yes I do hope Judy is able to do a tour with you.  She does need a break.  She is a hard worker. I do hope Ruth Ann will be able to meet up with you.  It will do her a power of good. She has such a lot on her plate these days.  She's an inspiration to us all John., Oh how I wish I could come along too and have a cup of coffee with you all.  Brill!!!

Thanks also for the info re Terri Blackstock.  I will have a look for her on Amazon.uk. I am catching up on Grisholm's King of Torts...don't know why I am late getting hold of this one.  He is a practising Christian.  I heard John Grisholm on the radio recently. He and his family worship together.  he gives a large amount of his money away...he was asked about this but he played it down...humility!

It appears to have stopped raining now.  I think I will get out my "warmies" and head off into the wind....if I don't get carried away.  It sure is force ten....(I think). Can't understand why my entry is again filled with leaves.

See you all later.
Jenny.

JudyB

Larry.  Check out  prayer request.

There is terribly biting cold wind here today. It is + 1 *C but feels as cold as January was.  I put the dog our without a coat, and wow the dampness goes right through.

Jenny I am sorry we sent you the snow LOL  ;D :o :o ;D
I hope you don't get the cold we have now.  I really wish I could go with John , but unfortuneately I can't.  It will be summer before I can as we can't leave the house without someone in it, and Bruno can't stay outside that long.  It still is too cold for that.

Well I have to run, and eat as we need to run out to church and The time is running even if I am not.

Bye all
judy

Pastoral Ministry: Sheep Are Led

Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord our
Maker. For he is our God, and we are the people of His pasture, and
the sheep of His hand.
--Psalm 95:6-7

Cattle are driven; sheep are led; and our Lord compares His people to
sheep, not to cattle.

It is especially important that Christian ministers know the law of
the leader--that he can lead others only as far as he himself has
gone....

The minister must experience what he would teach or he will find
himself in the impossible position of trying to drive sheep. For
this reason he should seek to cultivate his own heart before he
attempts to preach to the hearts of others....

If he tries to bring them into a heart knowledge of truth which he
has not actually experienced he will surely fail. In his frustration
he may attempt to drive them; and scarcely anything is so
disheartening as the sight of a vexed and confused shepherd using
the lash on his bewildered flock in a vain attempt to persuade them
to go on beyond the point to which he himself has attained....

The law of the leader tells us who are preachers that it is better
to cultivate our souls than our voices. It is better to polish our
hearts than our pulpit manners, though if the first has been done
well and successfully it may be profitable for us to do the second.
We cannot take our people beyond where we ourselves have been, and
it thus becomes vitally important that we be men of God in the last
and highest sense of that term.  The Price of Neglect, 151-153.

"Lord, today let me stop, step off the busy treadmill, and look to
the condition of my soul. Help me to listen to You and be
spiritually nurtured, to have my soul cultivated by You in silence
and solitude. Amen."

Larry, I will be praying for your granddaughter, too.  I can imagine the pressure this can apply to your faith, but hold strong and steady; our God is able!  (((hugs)))

I heard a really good sermon this morning by Ravi Zacharias.  He is such an humble man, with such a depth of understanding and compassion for people.  And he doesn't mince words, either!

I also listened to two other sermons.  LOts to chew on today.

Monty, I am so gald to see your posts, and to have you with us!  Wouldn't it be nice if we could all meet each other?  And we will, someday.

John, continue to drive carefully, and come ho
me safely again.

Larry I will be keeping her in prayer too.

Ruth Ann Bice

Larry, how frightening for all involved! Yes, you'll have my prayers, as well.

I'm very tired today, for we arrived in Nashville about midnight last night.

I have good news. My son in Atlanta is doing MUCH better, thanks to the prayers and doctor's visits, and to old-fashioned determination on his part and to his dear wife's loving care.

My granddaughter will be 9 on Thursday, so I drove Leslie to see the doctor on Friday and on Saturday, then we stayed over to have dinner with the family.

Mark had taken Kassie fishing on Friday (she was out of school) and they caught many crappie. She was immensely pleased with herself that she caught more fish than her dad and also that she caught the largest fish, whom she promptly named "Tugger."

Well, we ate Tugger and all his buddies last evening. She laughingly maintained throughout dinner that someone else was eating Tugger - she said he was her "best friend fish."

There was much laughter and many witty comments throughout the meal. I thoroughly enjoyed being there and seeing the great progress all in the family are making. And it was also good that Leslie was well enough to participate at the table with us. I enjoyed seeing his smiles all during the evening, too.

Oh, yes, baby Georgia was sitting in her high chair and kept looking at Mark's green beans cooing and waving her arms and trying hard to reach them. Well, the rest is quite a story. That babe LOVED them, ate a bunch, and then begged and begged so Mark took tiny little pieces of the inside of the fish and offered them to her. She really enjoyed that, too. She's still toothless at 8 months, so looked like a little toothless granny enjoying a meal. Once she was filled up, her little eyes began to droop. So, she slept the rest of the evening away tucked in her daddy's arms.

We drove home remarking about how great it is to see them doing well.

Ruth Ann
...his compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Hello Ms.Jenny! Did you just get back from church I did?

Zachery

Jenny

Hello Zach..

Well done.  I just got back from a ride...but it was such a cold wind that I did not stay out long brrr...I took a library  vook back to the Librarian's house.  She brings books here for me...bless her.

While I was out I saw a young man called Ryan we all pray for.  He's 19. He's kind to the young scoundrels around here. He's a chef...doens't like his job much but it is work.

My church beings Holy Communion to me on Wednesday...It is very cold in there at the moment...so on bad days I read my Bible and pray.  There was a lovely Lenten talk on the radio an hour ago which I enjoyed.

Is it cold there Zach?

I had better go and see this quiz you are talking about....O.K?

Jenny  ;)

Jenny

Zach...I am not allowed in there  ???

Hhhmm...how come your Mum won....cheating!!! ::)

I wish to complain.  I am not allowed in and Soni won!
Is she really that clever?

I sent Zachery a PM with the answers.  :D

We have sang this hymn a couple of times in church including today, it moves me to tears.
   http://www.carnalea.down.anglican.org/hymns_&_worship.htm

I will not boast in anything,

no gifts, no power, no wisdom;

but I will boast in Jesus Christ,

his death and resurrection.

Why should I gain from his reward?

I cannot give an answer;

but this I know with all my heart,

his wounds have paid my ransom. :)

Jenny

Chris thank-you for sending this on to me dear.  it is lovely!
