Morning Devotional...

THE HEART OF THE PROBLEM

Have you noticed that dishonourable conduct and downright dishonesty appear to be sweeping our nation from Parliament to the market place?  It seems that the depravity of man is in evidence everywhere.  Adulterous relationships are condoned.  Incest is on the increase and crimes of violence are reported on a daily basis in our newspapers.

On the international scene things are no better.  Terrorism, war, aggression and hate abound on every hand.  The humanists' dream of a world united in universal brotherhood and peace is but a hollow joke.  Man has proved that he can not govern his own lust for power and pleasure.  How then does he hope to rule creation in goodness and justice?

The sociologist and the humanist tell us that the problem lies not with man, but rather with man's environment.  Such an argument is surely foolish, for man has made his own environment what it is.  Our cities, our slums, our dens of iniquity, our battlefields and our bombs are all the products of man's depraved ingenuity.

Almost 2,000 years ago the Lord Jesus Christ declared man's heart to be the problem.  He said, "Out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies; these are the things which defile a man" (Matthew 15:19-20).  The Bible also asks a pertinent question and supplies the only reasonable answer:  "From whence come wars and fightings among you?  Come they not hence even of your lusts that war in your members?" (James 4:1).  This state of affairs is common to all human beings.  "For all have sinned and come short of the glory (standard) of God" (Romans 3:23).

All of us are born in bondage to iniquity (see Psalm 51:5) and we need to be set free.  The only one who can set us free from the slavery of sin is the Lord Jesus Christ.  He Himself said, "If the SON shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed" (John 8:36)

The good news of the gospel is that Jesus the spotless, sinless, Son of God became Man and paid the price necessary to redeem us from sin.  That was indeed a costly transaction, for He paid the price in His Own Blood.

The Bible says, "Ye were not redeemed with corruptible things such as silver and gold, from your vain conversation, received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious Blood of Christ, as a lamb without blemish and without spot" (I Peter 1:18, 19).

L. E. Jones, the hymn writer, knew the power of the redeeming Blood of Jesus when he wrote: "Would you be free from your burden of sin?  There's power in the Blood, Power in the Blood, Would you o'er evil the victory win?  There's wonderful power in the blood!"

Do you long to be cleansed and set free?  Then turn away from self and sin (repent) and place your trust in the Son of God who shed His Blood for sinners.  He was raised again from the dead to prove that He paid the redemption price in full.  Why not trust Him with your eternal destiny now?

The Bible declares that anyone who thus repents and believes on the Lord Jesus Christ is saved for eternity and should:

  • Be baptized (immersed in water).   Matthew 28:19 & Acts 2:41
  • Join with others of like faith.                             Hebrews 10:25
  • Separate themselves from ungodly systems.  2 Corinthians 6:16
  • Tell others of God's grace.                               Matthew 28:19

                                                                                           ~John A. Scott~

I had an awesome day.  ;D

To start out I help Zachery with the papers.  We had fun with that.  Laughed and joked around.  I then took Chandraya to choir practice at 9:00am and went to Sunday School at 9:15am.  We are studying chapter 10 and 11 in "The Purpose Driven Life" book.

I wasn't going to go to this because Lila Mae was home sick, but Mike told Troy to bring my Bible so I decided to stay and am glad I did.

In church we studied Luke 22
The thing that really stuck out to me was Peter and Judas both sinned agains Jesus.  Peter was sorry and repented and Judas was just sorry.

How We Avoid Their Failures:

  • Know there is a spiritual war going on in this world today.
  • Study God's word all the time not just on Sunday.  (Don't run your life on vapors) Study and Pray!
  • Obey God's word.
  • Be careful the company we keep.  (Bad company can corrupt good morals)
  • Repent!
  • Know that Jesus is praying for us.
[/b]

We had a good time at Choir practice.  Sang some great songs, but I won't beable to sing them next Sunday.  I am going to be gone.  After we were done, Becky told us to pick a pew and go sit at it and pray for those folks who will be sitting there next week that they will feel the love of God and soo on...I thought that was so neat.  God is really working in our church.

I got home tonight and put a CD in to practice for Easter Sunday and Mike and the boys and Chandraya came over and we all sang this song 2 times together.  It sounded so awesome and it felt awesome to beable to worship God like that with my kids and husband alone.
I wonder if Pat has the song.  ::)

Above All
Paul Balocke and Lenny Leblane

Above all powers above all kings
Above all nature and all created things
Above all wisdom and all the ways of man
You were here before the world began.

Above all kingdoms above all thrones
Above all wonders the world and ever known
Above all wealth and treasures of the earth
Ther's no way to measure what You're worth

Crucified laid behind a stone
You lived to die rejected and alone :'(
Like a rose trampled on the ground :'(
You took the fall and thought of me
Above all

I love that song!  I am tearing up again.  I better get myself to bed.  Thanks for listening.
Love you all!

Soni This is one of my favorite songs today, and I'm a dyed in the wool Southern Gospel music lover. I tear up too (Shhhh! :-X)

Pat Thanks for a great site! I appreciate the hard work!

Pappa John Happy "Second" Birthday! I am so glad for you. I do so love to hear from the elders here. You all have wisdom to share with us, and I honor you.

And Most of all...

Dear Jenny! My heart is full to see you back! I have missed you. My wife and I act like misplaced Brits, because you have so many things in your day to day life that we enjoy. We both love Hot Tea. My favorite is either "Constant Comment" or "Earl Grey" tea. My wife's favorites are "English Breakfast Tea" and she likes "Darjeeling"....not one of my favorite I'm afraid.

We both have dreams of one day being able to plant "English Gardens" with all of the beautiful types of flowers. I really enjoyed your images of your fathers beautiful gardens.

Blessings to you all this day.

Soni, what a wonderful message you posted.

The above quote is so very, very true.  Oh that folks would realize the difference between Peter and Judas!

I don't have the midi for that song.  We'll see if we can find a link though.  Wonderful words.  Yes, I'm weeping just reading them.  How I look forward to heaven and being able to worship our wonderful Saviour who went through this for me!!

Monty, it is always good to see you here.  Yes, I am getting a little old.  I'm not sure about the wisdom thing.  I do know that as I get older I think I have mellowed  a little and my faith in God and dependence on Him continues to grow.  I also am more aware that we are for just a little while and a new generation comes to take our place.

Eccl 1:7All streams flow into the sea, yet the sea is never full. To the place the streams come from, there they return again.  (NIV)

James 4:13-15  Now listen, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money."
14   Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.
15   Instead, you ought to say, "If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that."  (NIV)

Jenny, I was especially glad to see you drop in yesterday.  I did miss your smiling face.

Iain, it is so good to see you this morning.  Good thoughts about our putting things in the hands of God.
Isa 55:7-9
7   Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.

9   "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.  (NIV)

Ruth Ann, a good morning to you from the sunny coast of West Florida.  I looked at the radar for Nashville and it looks like rain for today.

Papa John...
Quote  Fifty eight years ago I received Jesus and was baptized into Christ.  God has been so good to me.  We have communion every Lord's day and through all these years I have been able to have communion every Sunday but one.

That sure is a great undertaking.  Not very many people can say the same!!!

Jenny ~ Great to see you back.  You were missed!!

Marilyn ~ I know it is too late but my husband was a butcher.  He said to bake a turkey breast side down.  That way the juices would run into the breast, not away from the breast,  Makes sense to me but I never did it.  He always did my hams and turkeys.

Liz ~ Great to see you back.  You were missed also!!!  Hey, we have two new newbies!!!

Fast Eddie ~ I did have Windows 98SE.  When I deleted my cookies on it, and I only did it twice in 3 years, it really messed up my computer.  January I got a new compressor with Windows XP.  I really like it...unlike most people who say they don't like it at first.  From old habit, I shut my computer down every night.  This morning I turned it on.  The compressor was running but nothing on my monitor.  It said there was not video action on a little window dancing around the monitor screen.  AND I couldn't shut off the compressor..you know, to reboot.  So I unplugged it from the back of the monitor and all is fine right now.  Cyberspooks!!!!!

Pat ~ Thank you for the link about little Celia.  How devastating!!!  Now we need to pray that the police and detectives find the murderer!  My heart goes out to these parents and Celia's friends.

Jeanne ~ Glad you found your way to CP!  That's frustrating, isn't it, when things don't work right!!!

Soni ~ I would love to have heard your family sing together.  That would be awesome.

Iain ~ It is wonderful to see you posting.  I enjoyed your post tremedously!!

Yesterday was an awesome day.  The sermon was very touching and educational.  The breakfast out was just right.  I took a nap at Jerry's and told him to wake me by 4 p.m. and he did.  As soon as I got home, Ivalou called and said the Talent Show was at 6:00 p.m. instead of 6:30 p.m. and we are to pick up two other ladies.  So I drove and left right away.  We stopped for a bite to eat and went to a church near the restaurant.  What an abundance of talent.  The main reason we went was because at Ivalou's church, they have a men's quartet called 'The Shepherds'.  They sound great and besides, our nephew is the tenor.  They had young pianists, older pianists, a violinist, dancer, magicians, banjo player, saxaphone player, what ever you call it when someone talks or recites a poem, and several singers.  One lady sounded just like Anne Murray...I shut my eyes and it was Anne singing.  What a wonderful time.  This was that churches first annual talent show.

Today I hope to get some things done that needs to be done before leaving for Precious Moments Thursday morning.  We will be back late Sunday but I don't like to leave when I know things need to be attended to...  Jerry is going to cat-sit for the 'girls'.

Oh my dear brother Iain!  It is so good to see you here!  Just a few moments ago I had prayed for you. Oh how I too need to learn to leave in God's hands all the things and conditions I need!

Janet

Happy Monday to all of you!

It is wonderful to see you back again, Iain!  I miss your posts when you are away.

Great post, Soni, and that is also one of my favorite songs.  He is truly Above All!  I would have loved to hear your family singing that together!

Papa John, I think I can speak for all of us here when I say we all have great respect for your life of integrity, faithfulness and love, walking close to the Lord.  What a legacy you are building for your family.  God bless you.  May you be granted many more years to walk close to Him.

Etta Sue, you and your Sister seem to find so many fun things to do together.  Good for you!

Good morning, Ruth Ann and Kathy!  I wish you both wonderful days today!

Ria, it is interesting to read about Holland's plans to honor the old Queen/Princess.  I know very little about Royalty.  But I am a child of the King!  Guess that makes me a Princess too, doesn't it?  ;)

Monte, I really enjoy your posts, too.  I think it is wonderful how we can get to know each other through the mysteries of the internet.

HUGE THANK YOUS TO OLDIESMAN AND PAT FOR GETTING THE NEW CHANGES DONE!!  We appreciate you so much!

Big welcome to Sspradlin!!

I didn't get an email from you about the new URL. I put a note in the Yahoo groups and Al called me to give me the url.

Etta Suethank you for the tip on baking a turkey, I will definitely remember that the next time I cook a turkey. My dogs have had wonderful turkey treats ::)

RuthAnn are you having those dizzy spells? I pray you are better.

Papa JOhn you have been putting the old guy withthe crutches as your signature. Hey you are only as old as you feel.  Lets see younger swimmer. ;D

JudyMCYes the service was all I expected. It would be hard to describe to a non-pentacostal.

The behavior of the young people would not be allowed in some of  the more sedate churches. When the worship team started, the young people all went to the front and began to praise and worship each in his/her own manner,  raised arms. dancing, jumping up and down, singing in tongues or in english.

The music was loud  ( this is the evening service I am writing about) the preaching was loud, the messages at both services were salvation messages. In the morning it was on Rev. 4. and the evening was 1 Kings 18.

The prayer warriors  among the youg people are more that the adults. There are three permanent adult prayer warriors present at EVERY prayer meeting, Me and two others. I have seen the young people laid out on the floor, in various kneeling positions etc, crying out to the Lord in every manner you can imagine.

I cannot remember the first step, I believe the word "system' is in it though. The next step is disc clean-up and the last is defragmentation.

Always do defrag AFTER clean-up.  Don't ask me why, it was just what my instructor to me to do.

I'm sorry Marilyn, but that's probably because of that spam filter you've put on your computer and it didn't want to get the email.  Personally I wouldn't have that on my computer as it blocks so many important letters and I get around 200 spam emails and up, daily.  I have mailwasher and I manually delete them as I've found family letters in the trash with various spam filters I've tried in the past.  Everyone registered on CP was sent the letter.

Good morning all.  It is a beautiful, sunny day, here on the island.  I went upstairs to have coffee with Wendy and sat  watching all the many birds enjoying their lovely yard.  Hummingbirds, Robins, Juncos, Towhee, Sparrows, etc.  What a beautiful sight.  One Robin keeps gathering from the ground for their nest, taking huge mouthfuls that make him fly low to the ground.  A real Macho guy!  Trying to impress his mate...I will try to capture some of the action on camera.

Etta Sue, will try that trick with the turkey at Easter.  I am going to cook the dinner for the kids and one of Ralph's uncles.  Will be a way to officially make this suite home.

Iain, it is so good to read your posts again.  Have had you in my thoughts a lot.

Papa John, you are indeed an inspiration and doubt if the word 'old' really will every apply to someone so filled with the Spirit.

I am going to do some baking for one of Wendy's best friends who was rushed to the hospital and is seriously ill.  Her name is Karen.  She had an emergency operation the other day and it was bad, transfusions, etc.  Karen is like a sister to Wendy and this added to the stressful week around here.  We are going to go over and clean her home tomorrow, after I get through with the results from a biopsy at the specialists.  Poor Wendy.  First the cat, then my Al, then Karen, then Ralph's uncle died...all in one week.  My little daughter is stressed to the max.

Monty, I also love southern gospel music.  Do you ever listen to the Gaither group?  Or the Cox family....so many great artists around.

Sonja, God must take great joy in your dear family.  I love reading about them and seeing the beautiful pictures.  You are truly an amazing lady.

Hi Jenny and Marilyn.  Thank you for the emails.  They were appreciated.

Must get to work now.  Will come back to read tonight.

God Bless.  Liz
