Morning Devotional...

Hath God forgotten to be gracious? Hath He in anger shut up His tender mercies? I will remember the years. . . of the most High.
Psalm 77:9-10

These two verses indicate a remarkable change in the writer's outlook on life and attitude to God.

Such was his depression in the opening verses that he finally reached the stage where he wondered if God had forgotten him. But then he realized that he himself, not God, was the forgetful one.

So in a new mood he began to recall the mighty works of God in the past and was refreshed.

Try it.
--W. P. W. McVey

His love in time past forbids me to think
He'll leave me at last in trouble to sink;
Each sweet Ebenezer I have in review,
Confirms His good pleasure to help me quite through.

What a day today/yesterday.

I got back from dance and heard that lila Mae choked on a piece of mint candy.  She couldn't breath and Mike just walked through the door and seen she couldnt breath so he flipped her over and popped her on the back.  She ended up puking it out.  Poor little thing.  That is 3 times the Lord has saved this little baby's life.   :'(  She went on like nothing happened, while the rest of us take a closer look at our life and the things that she does that means so much to us.

Thank you God for taking care of her and letting us have her.

I better get to bed.  It has been a long night for me.

Love you all and you all mean so much to me.
Soni :)

Jane Walker

Oohh, SONI!  Something like that can be so frightening.   :o  And, yes indeed, it surely does make you much more aware of the gift of life and of our children.  God is so good...all the time.  How do you think Mike "just happened" to come through the door at that precise time and was able to rescue Lila Mae?  And, how precious that she just went on like nothing happened.  That is trust!  Perfect trust ... she in her parents and her parents in God!   :D
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

GOOD MORNING ALL 10.55AM in Holland

PAT thank you for the lovely devotional this morning the hymn yesterday "The Way He Loves"

Oh, goodness, Soni! That reminds me of the many scrapes I had with my children. And, yes, each one reminds us that God is in control. Aren't we thankful that Mike was prompted by the Spirit to pass through that door!

Hi, Jane, I've been thinking of you this morning. It's a shame you're not awake yet (it would be 4 am your time, I believe). I've been feeling prompted to phone you.

Also, can someone contact me about using the voice part of instant messaging? I remember I tried it when on dial up, but it didn't work very well at all. Well, I just had a "duh" moment - I'm on cable now, so probably it would open up more means of speaking with my friends and family.

Ria, that indeed is a strange occurrence. I heard over the weekend here that in the New York/New Jersey area, a 9,000 gallon gasoline tanker had disappeared and there was also a big alert over the subway system in New York.

These are indeed perilous times in which we live. All the more reason to, as my dad used to say, "be paid up and prayed up."

Y'all have a good day today.

You have but to tell Him your troubles,

you will fill me with joy in your precense,

Just like David in the Psalm and the author's comment on how it turned out that David had forgotten God, rather than the other way around.... I've been very conscious lately of the need to re-contact daily. Because I got huffy I'm not a member of any church right now, and soon we'll be on the road all the time in an RV, so I'm hoping to come here and check in with other believers pretty much every day. We'll be on limited online minutes via cell phone so I'm not sure how it will work out. I do plan to either find a church on Sundays wherever we are, or go to campground services.

Off now to the day's activities -- more moving from house into RV, and a couple-hour bike ride (in addition to photography, I also enjoy running and triathloning.)

Thanks for being there.

Ellie

Ellie

Soni, thank God she is OK. This same thing happened to Abbie (she of the "Foot") -- bit off a piece of a teething biscuit when she was 7 months old. As with Lila Mae, the right people were there.... she was at her other grandma's house and her mom, a nurse, had just come from work to pick her up. Grandma Judy was on the phone to the rescue squad as mom Jamie was smacking her on the back. Abbie popped out the piece and cried at having been smacked, Grandma Judy told the 911 person, "Never mind, the baby's fine now," and she and Jamie sat down shaking. Also like Lila Mae, Abbie's life has been saved before. She was born prematurely with Down Syndrome, and had a severely-deformed heart that they were able to correct surgically when she was 4 months old. A little boy her age had similar surgery the same day, right before Abbie, and he died. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.... we all feel Abbie has a special purpose on this earth.

Thanks for telling us about Lila Mae.

Sonja, I well remember a day when Curtis was two years old.  He found a penny in the toybox at my house, put it in his mouth, then sucked it down, cutting off his air!  He turned around and looked at me with a panicked expression, and I grabbed him and did the Heimlick manuever, and out popped the penny.  Boy, that scared me!  Whew!  So I am glad that Lila Mae had a similar outcome.  I expect that nearly everyone who has raised kids has a close call story or two.

Here is a good poem about friends:

Around the corner I have a friend,
In this great city that has no end,

Yet the days go by and weeks rush on,
And before I know it, a year is gone.

And I never see my old friend's face,
For life is a swift and terrible race,

He knows I like him just as well,
As in the days when I rang his bell.

And he rang mine but we were younger then,
And now we are busy, tired men.

Tired of playing a foolish game,
Tired of trying to make a name.

Tomorrow" I say! "I will call on Jim
Just to show that I'm thinking of him."

But tomorrow comes and tomorrow goes,
And distance between us grows and grows.

Around the corner, yet miles away,
"There's a message sir," "Jim died today."

And that's what we get and deserve in the end.
Around the corner, a vanished friend.

Remember to always say what you mean. If you love someone, tell them. Don't be afraid to express yourself. Reach out and tell someone what they mean to you. Because when you decide that it is the right time it might too late.

Seize the day. Never have regrets. And most importantly, stay close to your friends and family, for they have helped make you the person that you are today and you never know what tomorrow has in store for you.

The following is a bit long, but since today is our National Day of Prayer, I think it is well worth reading, and following with fervent prayer.

From: Jerry Falwell

PRAYER IS STILL IMPORTANT FOR OUR NATION

If groups like the American Atheists and Americans United for the Separation
of Church and State had their way, American presidents would not be free to
proclaim National Days of Prayer for our nation.

"Declarations that Americans should pray, worship a god, or even read a
particular spiritual text like the Bible, clearly endorse religious belief
and have a sectarian character.  They divide, rather than unify, Americans,"
the American Atheist website said this week.

Thankfully, such groups remain in the minority (for now) and our nation will
continue in the tradition of honoring God this May 6.  This tradition goes
all the way back to 1775, and the First Continental Congress which called
for a National Day of Prayer.     That call to prayer secured for all time
the fact that America was to be reliant on God.  That is an undeniable fact
of history.  In 1952, Congress established the National Day of Prayer as an
annual event by a joint resolution, with President Harry S Truman signing it
into law.

President Bush is preserving the legacy of his predecessors, declaring
Thursday as the National Day of Prayer.  In his proclamation, President Bush
noted that, in his first Inaugural Address, President George Washington
"prayed that the Almighty would preserve the freedom of all Americans."

"All," in this case, includes the American Atheists.  What members of these
groups fail to grasp is that our nation's spiritual pursuits do nothing to
discount the beliefs of others.  American Atheists remain free to their
non-belief while the rest of the nation pauses for one day to publicly
contemplate the blessings of God on our nation.

America's presidents have routinely issued prayer proclamations that express
the nation's dependency on Almighty God.  Like it or not, our nation's
religious heritage served as the groundwork for this land of the free.

Sure, some scoff at our tradition of national prayer, but I believe it is
important because it compels all Americans to at least momentarily recognize
that this nation has an ongoing practice of reverence and dependence on the
Almighty.

President Bush beautifully stated, "Prayer is an opportunity to praise God
for His mighty works, His gift of freedom, His mercy, and His boundless
love.  Through prayer, we recognize the limits of earthly power and
acknowledge the sovereignty of God.  According to Scripture, 'the Lord is
near to all who call upon Him. ...  He also will hear their cry, and save
them.'  Prayer leads to humility and a grateful heart, and it turns our
minds to the needs of others."

Similarly, President Abraham Lincoln, on March 30, 1863, signed a
Proclamation Appointing a National Fast Day.  It read, in part: "And whereas
it is the duty of nations as well as of men, to own their dependence upon
the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions, in
humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to
mercy and pardon; and to recognize the sublime truth, announced in the Holy
Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed
whose God is the Lord."

On May 6, 1982, President Ronald Reagan said, "Our Pledge of Allegiance
states that we are 'one nation under God,' and our currency bears the motto,
'In God We Trust.'  The morality and values such faith implies are deeply
embedded in our national character.  Our country embraces those principles
by design, and we abandon them at our peril.  Yet in recent years,
well-meaning Americans in the name of freedom have taken freedom away.  For
the sake of religious tolerance, they've forbidden religious practice in the
classrooms.  The law of this land has effectively removed prayer from our
classrooms.  How can we hope to retain our freedom through the generations
if we fail to teach our young that our liberty springs from an abiding faith
in our Creator?"

What remarkable words from an equally remarkable man!  These words should
inspire us to fight to regain our rights of public religious expression that
our Founders secured for us.

Meanwhile, as we prepare to participate in the National Day of Prayer, may
we remember the words of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, who said, "Without
God there could be no American form of government nor an American way of
life.  Recognition of the Supreme Being is the ... most basic expression of
Americanism."

That's America in a nutshell.

Larry ~ Etta Sue, what is "Kitty TV"? Kitty TV is my picture window or my full screen outside door or any window that the kitties sit and watch birdies.  Kitty TV.

Pat ~ I have never seen that little screen called 'Autoplay'.  Can't help you there.

Soni ~ What a scare!  Thank God, Mike was there and helped her.  I don't want to think about what could have happened.

Marilyn ~ I uninstalled my Avant.  Now that I have found out how to open new windows on IE, I like it much better than Avant.

I am so sore today.  Jerry was here and I ran the weed eater and mowed part of the yard while he mowed the rest of the yard.  Then I finished weed eating.  My deck is that resin stuff and it was getting pretty stained.  It doesn't absorb moisture so it has to dry and it had turned dark and mossy and mildewy in some areas...mostly on the north side.  So I purchased some bleach.  So with a scrub broom and bleach water, it is all nice and white again.  Did I mention elbow grease, too?  Needless to say, I am sore today.  So I plan on doing nothing the rest of the day that takes much movement or strength!!!

Hi everyone.  This will be pretty short today for 2 reasons.  I wrote a lot yesterday and I am tired after spending the morning out looking at some new homes.

We are looking at all options regarding our home situation.  Didn't see anything this morning that would meet our needs.

Sonja, so happy to read that you all had a happy outcome to that frightening event for your little girl.

Marilyn, I have been having a few problems with the Avant browser locking up and having to close it and then reopen.  The nice thing is that it will reopen and reload the pages I had displayed.  However, I read in one of my computer letters yesterday that they preferred the Mozilla browser, which also has tabbed browing.  I haven't had the problems you described with the screen going black.

Pat, I think you will find an answer on the autoplay if you just type "autoplay" in the Windows Help screen.  It relates to a setting for your CD ROM I expect.

Think I am going to go take a nap.

Howdy folks.

Thanks for the concerns about Lila Mae.  I am very thankful she is ok.

I went through the same thing with Zachery several times. That kid couldn't keep things out of his throat.  The hymelic had to be used quite a bit with him.

I posted some more pictures in the May Challenge "Flowers".

I am getting ready to head out the door to help the boys with their paper routes.

Sonja - how glad we should be that our God CARES!  He put Mike there at that moment.  Having had six children, we've seen many scary moments.  One comes immediately to mind.  We were about to leave for some kind of very necessary visit to someone when our oldest came down with a fever of 105!  I called the  doc, and he said to bring her right down.  In the meanwhile, we prayed - very simply asked our Father to heal her.  By the time we got to the car she was starting to feel better.  By the time we got to the doc, she was feeling fine.  The doc could find nothing wrong.  Wow!  That got our attention!

Janet - thanks for that Falwell piece.  Oh that more Americans felt that way.  Oh Father, have mercy on our nation.  Turn these atheists from their atheism, and move them to believe in You and to be thankful for Your mercy.  And Father, turn the hearts of all Americans this day to confess our sins to You and to thank You for Your mercy.  Through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Hi, all!  Sorry, I never did get online last night - we got involved in a TV program instead and by 11:00 I was ready to hit the sack.

Sonia, I guess most of us have had incidents of our little ones choking.  My #2 son was about 3 or 4 I think, standing by the screen door waiting for the ice cream man.  He had his quarter ready (does that tell you how long ago it was?  ;D) and was rubbing it up and down and around on the screen and suddenly I heard him choking and gagging - knew immediately what he'd done.  It was an easy matter to just tip him over my hip and whack his back and out it popped.  But he was the one who gave me the most gray hairs from the time he started crawling.

WELCOME GORD BROWN!!

We're REALLY so very glad to see you!

Hi Everyone!

This is the first I've been on here all day!

I took Judy McKenna to the hospital to have her cast changed and then she took me out for lunch!  That was just fantastic!  We ate Chinese!

Then we stopped at the supermarket and picked up a few things and then home to her house to enjoy a cup of tea with her and Norm.

Then I came home and went for a nap.  Had company drop in later and that's been my day and here I am!

I haven't read the posts in here yet but my goodness, I'm so happy to see my "brother" Gord Brown online!  We met very soon after he arrived here from Scotland and Northern Ireland and yes, he and Jack had many, many times together through the years.

Oh, Gord, I'm so happy that you're finally on Christian Photographers and I do hope that you know that I've been praying for your dear wife, Noreen.

The folks here will also be very happy to put Noreen on their prayer lists.  Folks she's in constant pain with her back.

Now, I'm going to read the posts.

Love

QuoteGrilled some burgers tonight; first time I've had the grill hot this year.  I'm mostly a hamburger cook, but I would love to grill some other things as well.  Maybe I'll stop leatherizing steak one of these days and figure out how to do it right.

My expert chef tells me to pass this message on....The knobs on the front of the grill are there for a reason....turn them on high to get the grill heated (and cleaned), then turn them right down and let the grill even out to about 300 degrees for cooking.  Put your steaks on the grill, and when the sides start turning brown, flip the steaks and in another few minutes the steaks should be done (the thicker the steak, the longer it will take to cook).   If you choose to marinate the steaks....do so for at least 4-6 hours before grilling, and if they are thick steaks overnight is even better.

Soni, What a good thing that Mike walked in when he did!

Pat, I'm not sure what you mean buy "autoplay" but perhaps by using the "HELP AND SUPPORT" and typing in the keyword "autoplay" you might be able to sort out what the problem is.

And now...time for bed.  Another busy day at work tomorrow.

(Eidt....I wasn't trying to be sarcastic Nards...A common misconception is that cooking on the BBQ must be on high heat), and according to Bruce (my partner)(and the one who does 99% of all cooking in my home), that is not the case.  Medium to Low heat is usually the better way to cook.
