How To Overcome Worldliness

    Matthew 6:24 says...

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

    1 John 2:15-17 says...

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

    Morning Devotional...

Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing?
    Matthew 10:29

Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?
    Luke 12:6

It seems as though one little sparrow is all but worthless, thrown in for nothing, as it were, if five were bought instead of two.

Yet, not one of them is forgotten before God.

Then the Saviour assures us, "Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows".

He who cares for these tiny birds will care for me and it pleases Him that I should trust Him.
    --Jim Flanigan

    Simply trusting every day;
    Trusting through a stormy way;
Even when my faith is small
    Trusting Jesus, that is all.

    Musician:  William J. Kirkpatrick, 1838-1921

'Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
    And to take Him at His Word;
Just to rest upon His promise,
And to know, "Thus says the Lord!"

    Refrain
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
    How I've proved Him o'er and o'er
    Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust Him more!

O how sweet to trust in Jesus,
    Just to trust His cleansing blood;
And in simple faith to plunge me
    Neath the healing, cleansing flood!

    Refrain

Yes, 'tis sweet to trust in Jesus,
    Just from sin and self to cease;
    Just from Jesus simply taking
Life and rest, and joy and peace.

    Refrain

I'm so glad I learned to trust Thee,
    Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend;
And I know that Thou art with me,
Wilt be with me to the end.

Pat, and Alan, a very belated birthday wish to both of you.

    Backpacker1uk

I will remember my birthday this year for a long long time.

It was the night I told a dear friend of the last ten months we should never have carried on with this friendship after we met at Liverpool Cathedral.

Yes cupid shot that arrow into my heart but as usual the bow must have broke because she does not feel for me what I feel for her.

I asked her to explain why I am her best friend in the whole world and she tells me any woman would be over the moon to have me as a partner/husband.  Except herself of course.

Failing a interview for a job you would ask why you failed.  Can you please do the same for me now I do so wish to know.

Besides the little I like the theatre you don't.  I answered with I have never ever had the opportunity to go to the theatre.  Do carry on.  Walking around a flower show would bore me silly.   Same here couple of hours is my limit.

Do carry on!  We then came to the I am looking for a man who has the same as myself.  A four bedroomed detached house!!

I live in rented accommodation .

So I told her we are now into this material world you are seeking a man with wealth not a man who will love and cherish your very being.

I do have funds from the sale of my house and am not penniless.

Why was I not told nine months ago what she was seeking.  I feel as though I have been her mentor/counsellor all rolled into one.  A friendly voice to talk to every night for two hours.   For the last ten months!!

We have had a few laughs walking up Pendle Hill and the eccentric chap with his model aircraft  who nearly landed the aircraft on the top of my head.  That made her laugh.  It was nice to see her smile again after all her heartache these last few years losing her husband and a dear friend both to cancer.  Not forgetting the person who decided he would have the other woman who has more money.  You could say in a roundabout way she is doing the same.

Heartache is the same as a teenager and a 55yr old fool.

    Best wishes to all

    Alan

    MIKE's DEVOTIONAL

Heb. 9 : 27a And inasmuch as it
is appointed for men to die once (NAS)

    GOODBYE MR PRESIDENT

Tonight American mourns the death of former President Ronal Wilson Reagan.
As often as we, as a people, argue over matters that cover the full range of concern, tonight we are united, as we bid farwell to a favored son.

His legacy includes a litany of accomplishments.
Some os these have arguably altered the cours of history.
But they all seem, at least to me, to be founded on
    his compassion and principles.
He had an ability to bring people together even in difficult times.
He lead the nation in mourning the astronauts of the
Space Shuttle Challenger was destroyed in an explosion
    that killed all aboard.
His politics, while vitally important to him, was never personal.
He was known to have a drink after hours with the same
congressmen he had argued passionately with only
    hours before.

Ten years ago, Ronald Reagan was diagnosed with Alzheimer disease.
He wrote a very simple, yet very elegant letter to the American people.
It was filled with concern for his wife Nancy, and for his family.
And it beamed with hope for this nation in the coming years, a nation he loved very much.
There was no mention of his own fears or concerns, though he must have had them.
He lived his final years as God gave them to him,
surrounded by Nancy and his family.

To have witnessed a life this full, and with this much impact, should inspire us all to reach a little higher,
and to recognize the needs of others before or own.
His principles and his values have changed the path of a
nation, and showed each one of us that the potential impact we have on the lives of others can be immense and positive, even when the hour seems very dark and we may feel alone.

In the end, for all his accomplishments and positive impact
on induviduals, nations and the world, he will stand alone
    before the Lord of Hosts.
The eternal destiny will be determined by his answer to the question, "What did you do with My Son?".
I did not know the President personally, nor do i know
    the Reagan family.
I know that Ronald Reagan was not perfect, as none of us
    is perfect.
He would probably be the first to admit his own frailties.
But his capacity for caring and compassion,
his dedication to his convictions and his principles, and his serverce, to me, are all evidences of a man
who was at least familiair with Jesus Christ,
if he does not know him as his Saviour and Lord.
At a pressconference, he once claimed to have
modeled his life "after the Man from Galilee".
This was one of many references to Christ in his speeches
    and in his letters.
I hope to meet Mr. Reagan one day in Heaven.

    Goodbye Mr. President.
And thank you for your example and your leadership.
You will be missed, but not forgotten.

    Ellie

Good morming, friends, God bless you!

Will you pray for my family, please?  My oldest daughter and her husband are divorcing, obviously things are not good between them....  Then, I was playing a game w/ granddaughter Gracie (will be 6 in August); I was singing songs w/o the words and she was to guess what they were. She correctly identified "Twinkle, Twinkle," "Jingle Bells," and a couple others, but did not know "Jesus Loves Me."  I sang it with the words and she shook her head and said, "Nope, don't know that one."  They don't "do" religion.

Our other daughter and her husband love each other deeply but have problems -- she made a disastrous mistake about 6 months ago (I won't elaborate -- suffice it to say that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God) and he is having a hard time recovering.

Our son and his wife seem quite stable (they've been married 7 years and had been going together since she was 14 and he 17), their 16-mo-old daughter Abbie is doing well, trying to walk (quite early for a child with Down Syndrome) -- she has the foot and leg thing down but can't support her weight, so she puts her hands down and walks on hands and feet like a bear -- too cute!! This is apparently replacing her crawl which had become lightning-fast, although she went on knees and elbows with her belly on the floor, we called it her "Marine-Corps Crawl" -- looked like she was going under barbed-wire or dodging shellfire. Jamie (the mom) is in her first week at a new job as a neonatal ICU nurse, just graduated from nursing school.... please pray for her.

This has been long.... thanks for reading.  I can't stay on long enough to check for messages at the site but you can e-mail me at steveandellie@hotmail.com.

    Love to all,
    Ellie

    Good Morning Everyone!

It's a little cooler here today.  I might go and try to finish up my lawn cutting.  I got interrupted by rain.  I have to get a new spool too for my whipper snipper or whatever you call the trimmer.

I'm so sorry, Alan about your friendship breakup.   It's sad when it's only one-sided but remember that we who are Christians can claim the verse in Proverbs 18:24 that says... "...and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother."    Keep coming in here, Alan.  Get to know the folks.  Take part in our chatter and you'll have some really good friends.

Ellie, I'm so sorry about your daughter's marriage.  It's so sad.  I will definitely be praying for you in the coming days.  It's also good to see you checking in.  I sent you an email to your old address from Photo-Sense.

Ellie - this world cheats its followers!  It promises so much but delivers so little.  Our sons and daughters see and hear the promises, believe them, and are taken in, but soon, very soon, the promises are failed, and their relationships fail with them.  Oh that Jesus Christ might be their goal, their Lord, and their Savior!  Only He can make relationships meaningful, and only He can supply grace to overcome.
I will pray with you for your daughters & their husbands.

Alan - physical pain and the frustration and discouragement you feel over earthly relationships are really quite similar - except that physical pain can sometimes be gotten over.  We need to make the relationship we have to our Lord Jesus Christ the closest and most lasting one.  He will not fail us, and His love for us will be finally rewarding.

Alan, I am so sorry.  It seems from your post that you wanted it to end differently, and I'm sorry it didn't go the way you wanted.  From what you said, it was not you she rejected, but rather a refusal to reject her preconceived notions about what she thinks she needed.

Ellie -- My son is only 2, but I can imagine that watching grown children suffer is as painful as suffering yourself.  I will be praying for them.

Everyone else take care, and I'll try to be back in a bit after I get Travis down for a nap (provided I can get him down for a nap.

Wow!  I am so glad I mowed yesterday.  If I were mowing today I would need a water mower.  I have water in my yard and surrounding area where water hasn't been for a very long time.  So far the basement is doing okay.  But I imagine not for long!  I am sure I will need to get out the sump pump before the day ends.

Nothing happening today that is exciting.  Just plan to stay inside and keep dry!

    Janet

I have been watching the funeral of our beloved President Reagan.  What a truly great man.

Alan, I'm so sorry about your friendship and the way it ended.  Sometimes people just do not seek the same things from a relationship, and it is sad when the end of it comes.  But be glad you knew sooner rather than later, even though your pain is just as real and just as deep.  I will pray that God will bring the lady He has for you to you, and that both you and she will know it is His will.  So please don't allow this hurt to close off your heart to a new relationship.  The right one for you may be very near.  God bless and comfort you, dear friend.

Ellie, I am praying for your family, too.  These things are so painful for us as parents, I know.  My prayer is for all of them to turn to the God who loves them so much and is the only answer to all their needs.

I have lots to do today, having been away for four days and leaving again on Tuesday or Wednesday for our family reunion.  We will be gone another several days, until at least Sunday night the 20th.

Here are some pictures I told you about about a month ago.  Mike and I are going for lunch.  Later folks.

Pat and Marilyn, I did see some of the funeral.  Very sad, but I am sure he is with the Lord.

    Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  I have just finished watching the the plane being loaded to fly President Reagan back to California and watched most of the funeral service.  He obviously was a very well loved person as in all the hours of commentary I have heard the last few days the recurrent theme was what a fine man he was and that he genuinely liked people, even when he disagreed with them.

Ellie, I also can relate the situation you described.  There are some really tough days and when our children are hurting we also hurt.  Unfortunately we cannot protect them from themselves.

Alan, your sadness is very evident in your posting and I am sorry that things haven't worked out as you wanted.

Janet, glad you had such a good time at your class and sorry to hear this would be the last one taught by this instructor.  Sorry that Darrell had such a difficult time while you were gone.

Last Christmas I gave my wife a wireless keyboard and mouse for her computer.  She has only used it for short periods before it would stop functioning as it should so she hasn't been using it.  I think part of the problem is that she doesn't have Windows XP on her computer.  So this morning I moved it over to my computer.  The mouse you can use without having it on a surface and the keyboard I can place anywhere I want.  I am trying to learn the technique with the mouse and I really like the touch of this keyboard.

Welcome briphoto to the CP site.

I got the laundry all caught up, then we hitched up the 5th wheel and pulled it out of the garage so we could put out the slide out.  Then I gave it a good cleaning.  So I have gotten quite a bit done today, I guess.

And I even got to watch the funeral.  Some great speeches were made today, by several people, and I especially appreciated the one by Margaret Thatcher.
