How To Overcome Pride

    Proverbs 16:18-20 says...

Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the LORD, happy is he.

    Proverbs 28:25-26 says...

He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the LORD shall be made fat.

He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.

    Morning Devotional...

And his servants came near, and spake unto him.
    2 Kings 5:13

Naaman had all the authority in the world below (that is, a letter from the king, vv. 4-6), as well as all the authority of the world above (that is, a word from the prophet, vv. 9-10), yet still he refused to budge or bend!

He finally relented when some humble servants quietly drew near and spoke to him.

Sometimes, even in the face of the Word of God being preached faithfully and clearly, this is what is needed--a little word here or a question there from an older brother or a quiet sister to finally get the matter settled.

Look for that opportunity to draw near and give a soft nudge!
    --Craig Funston

If you have a word of cheer
that may light a pathway drear,
    Of a brother pilgrim here,
    let him know.

    GALATIANS 6 : 14
May i never boast except in the cross
    of our Lord Jesus Christ,
through which the world has been
crucified to me, and I to the world.

What is your source of pride?
Paul reminds us that our one, true,
    and dependable source of boasting
is in the what the Lord has done for us
    on the Cross.
All other reasons to boast are fleeting
glimpses at hollow fame compared to the
joy and assurance of sharing in Jesus life,
    death, and resurrection.

    PRAYER...
    Forgive me, O Abba Father,
    for the times i have
    thought myself important
    because of some transitory
    accomplishment.
Thank you for giving me a
    bedrock source of boasting
    in Jesus love and grace
    demonstrated in the Cross.
In Jesus name i thank You.  AMEN

    Ruth Ann Bice

Good morning, I've been away from the computer this weekend, so what a surprise to hear of Karma and Nard's new joy! A friend at work was SO excited this week - her ultrasound shows she's having a little boy. With your love for your current family and for others, God will bless you as you parent this new little life.

I've been a bit depressed and that makes me go "hide in my corner." Of course, the sun is always going to come up the next morning, and I'll improve. So, here I am, ready to try again.

Ria, I like light colors, too. I have a tendency to depression, and even darkened skies (which we've had a lot lately) will sometimes push me in the wrong direction emotionally. I haven't taken time to view the pictures of your home, but we can all agree how difficult it is to get the work all done, and then how thankful and proud we are when we've finally finished it.

    I appreciate your beautiful devotions.

Well, must get ready for work. Then, I have plans to visit my husband's cousin this evening. She has pictures and other things to share with my children about their dad's mother's lineage. What a treasure! I'm looking forward to being with her this evening.

Y'all have a great day, my friends. May God richly bless each of you today.

    Ruth Ann
...his compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

    Papa John

Good moring.  Yesterday was a busy day for us.  It was the beginning of our VBS and during Sunday School we had a preview of the activities for the week.  It started last night with over 300 children.  The meeting in the auditorium was exciting with all the children singing the VBS songs and then a dramatic presentation.  The story is Esther is the theme and it is being depicted in a drama musical part of the story each night.  Then the children went to their classes and in the auditorium we had an excellent class on parenting.

Later this week we have sixty of our youth who are going on a mission to Honduras.  They have worked very hard raising money for the expenses of this project.

Prov 22:6  Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.  (NIV)

Eph 6:4  Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.  (NIV)

It is good to see everyone.  I came in last night and read the posts but didn't write anything.  Congratulations to the new parents to be.

Eph 2:8-9  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can boast.(NIV)

    Good Morning Everyone!

What a night of storms we had!  I hardly slept!  But today it is all calm and quiet outside and nice and sunny but I'm one tired lady!

I love that little poem today especially, Ria.  I'm going to put it in again...

    THE JOY OF YOUR PRESENCE

    Day after day, Lord,
    year after year
    the joy of Your presence
    grows even more dear.

Oh that we might ALL experience the joy of the presence of our Saviour day after day and year after year.

Papa John, we'll have to remember to pray for your youth group who are going off to Honduras.  I think that this is such a good experience for the kids.  I know that Andrew went to Bolivia to work with New Tribes Mission and he has never forgotten that experience.

Hi Ruth Ann...  I think that we all experience "down" times in our lives.  I know that I do.  Since Jack passed away, I just am so lonely and I don't know what I'd do without my dear friends here on CP.  You're ALL so special to me and missed dearly when I don't see your name pop up!

    Good morning all!!

Ria, I have all white walls in my house.  I really think if they were dark it would feel like they were closing in on me.  I assume repainting everything is out of the question, so maybe you could hang some mirrors or bright pictures on the wall to brighten things up a bit.  I hope the sun (SON) shines brightly on you today.

Papa John -- We are having our VBS in July.  Our church is very small (average attendance around 70) and it seems that all the curriculum is written for larger churches so I am writing ours this year.  We are doing four nights with a holiday theme (Valentine's Day [God is Love}]. Independance Day [Free in Christ], adn Christmas and Easter).  Things sound very exciting at your church.

Ruth Ann, I reckon it will be a while before we can find out if it is a boy or girl, and since I'm not Ms. Patient, I get rather antsy sometimes.

Hope Sarah has a wonderful time at camp.

To those of you that come in later (or may have posted while I was, have an awesome day.  And remember what Janet (I think it is Janet) says.  Whatever you do on Monday will set up what you do the rest of the week.  Or something like that . . . .

Sounds like a wonderful theme for your vacation Bible school, Karma.

You know what?  I think that the most wonderful experience for me in my pregnancies was finding out at the time of delivery that it was a boy or girl.  I would not have wanted to know before that.  It was such a lovely, lovely surprise.

Ahh, finally I'm able to post again!  Had to download & install a new Internet Explorer - the old one got corrupted.

Judy - I fully understand about your animals around the place there.  We have a family of deer that comes in a couple of days each week, a fox that lives about a block away, a skunk, a mountain lion, and who knows what else.  The mobilpark is right next to the woods, and the woods extend several miles to the east of here, so they all think this is part of their property.

Hi everyone.  I was reading the postings from yesterday afternoon and then wasn't able to access the CP site (could get to other sties) for quite awhile.  Glad to see we are back online.

Ria, I agree with you and the others that gloomy darks tend to make us feel down.  I am fortunate in that I seldom suffer from depression.  Your house sounds like it will be very enjoyable when you all get the work completed.

Our church had its vacation Bible school this past week and Sunday during the morning worship the little children sang their Bible school song.  We had about 150 young children attend the Bible school this year and about half of that number were not a part of our church family.

Our youth are leaving on a mission trip to Puerto Rico on Saturday.  There are 21 youth and 4 adults going for a week.  They will conduct a Bible school and help fix up homes in a little village.  Our church also sends a mission team of adults to Hondorus every year.

Pat, glad the storm didn't do any damage up your way.  We had about 1/2 inch of rain last night and more is predicted tonight and tomorrow night.  Last evening we just momentarily lost power once.  Just enough to shut off the computers and require the clocks to be reset.  However, we are thankful for the moisture.

Karma, I liked your themes for your Bible school.  It is nice of you to write the material for the Bible school.  Glad you are feeling well during these early stages of your pregnancy.

Papa John, you must attend a very large church to have that many children attend your Bible school.  Do you have a role in the activities this year?

Ruth Ann, your planned evening sounds very nice and I am sure you all will be reliving some wonderful memories as you focus on the past through pictures and other things.  Hope you are feeling better today.

Judy, glad to see you posting.  I read your post over in SeniorNet about the additional break you have experienced.  I am thinking we are going to have to wrap you in cotton to keep you safe. :D   I think some of the problem that my daughter-in-law is now having that has caused her to have the oeseo necrosis is due to her taking prednizone (sp) for about 2 years for astma.  Do take care.

Janet, thanks for the explanation about Sonja's comment on my posting.  She was right but I just didn't pick up on that comment.  Also I appreciate your explaining the surprise wedding.  It sounds like everyone had a wonderful and memorable time.  Those should be some interesting wedding photos.

Etta Sue, can understand your concern for your basement.  Are you still having rains today?  I know the midwest has been hit hard and there is a lot of flooding.

Marilyn, glad you have found some additional work.  Too bad the lady smokes as expect you have become more sensitive to smoke since you stopped.

Ruth, it is always nice to talk with our grandchildren regardless of the reason they call (as long as it isn't an emergency situatioin).

This is the day for the cleaning lady and she has been here all morning as she is working by herself today.  We have decided to have her also clean our daughter's room so it will be kept clean.  The yardmen just arrived and are out mowing in a light sprinkle.  They don't let a little rain stand in their way.  They have a schedule to maintain.  So, in a little while we will be all spruced up around here again.

Al, I see we have been posting at the same time.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

    Pat

    We're back!

Poor Wendy sounded so exasperated but she's done it while holding a little guy in her arms!  LOL

Many of our new folks don't realize that we have a list on Yahoo where we send out an email to everyone on the list to let them know if CP is having a problem.

There are 41 people on that list and I sent out an email this morning.

If you're on the list but you didn't get an email, then maybe you've changed your email address?

If you're not on the list, it would be a good idea as this is the way we let you know that there's a problem and what the status is.

Amen!  Great little devotion, Ria.  Thank you!

    Good morning all.

We had a wonderful weekend with my brother.  To top it all off God was answering prayers again.  He is so good.  I feel God is good even when we don't have prayers answered too.  :D

My brother Travis was driving back to Cheyenne in the car we given him. 73' Marque (spelling?)  The front tire blew while on a bridge, but he managed to stay in control of the vehicle until he got of the bridge and the car swirved to the right and into the ditch he went.  The tire was so hot that it caught the grass on fire and the fire jumped to the other side of the road.  The fire engines come and put the fire out and the awesome thing was the fire didn't get within 3 feet of the vehicle.   :o  God was right there with him.  He has made it home and the found that the belt to the power stirring went out too.  He got that back on and the car is running fine.

I better get.  I need to be at arobics in 45 minutes.

    Be back later.

    Ruth

    Good afternoon:

We also had rain last evening but not the heavy storms that some got.

Ria:  I going to have a look at your new home.

Judy: I'll bet you were surprised to see the deer walking down you street.

    Pat:  Keep smiling.

Must go as it is time to get ready for work.

Ms Pat i read this words in the devotional today. they are a puzzle to me.

He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.

If God is in my heart am I not to trusteth my own heart?  :-\

Is it to say what is in my heart is new each day and to do what is Gods wish is perhaps not at all my wish, yes? So I am to ask each day what I can do for God this day? It is perhaps not at all what is my desire?

:-\ do I undarstand it correct?

    Etta Sue

It seems that CP was down.  I must not be on the Yahoo list anymore.  Jerry told me it was down AFTER I rebooted a couple of times, thinking it was my pc that was the cause.

Ria ~ I don't think I get depressed but I sure don't understand how people can live with dark walls and the blinds or curtains closed.  I like to see outside whether it is sunny or cloudy.

Papa John ~ Our VBS starts today also.  They are expecting 300-350 kids to attend.  Generally it is less each day but ours is always more each day.
I took some pictures of the stage yesterday...if they turned out okay I will post them.

Pat ~ We have had storm about every night for a week but today is nice and sunny and I have a couple loads of clothes on the line.

Al ~ When a pc is not working well, we tend to feel inadequate.  At least, I do.

Larry ~ We have 16 men from our church that is in North Korea.  They are to be home Thursday.  When they crossed into North Korea, all email and correspondence with home ceased.  They only let 5 of them cross the first day and the rest went the next day.  I think that sounds scary.  Oh, yes!  They were going to build an orphanage while there.  Rain.  We had a bad storm yesterday afternoon but I didn't check the basement until this morning.  Seems I did have water because the floor is wet.

MIEKA!!!!!  How great to see you!!! (((((((((hugs)))))))))

I posted some photos from my new camera last night, so if you missed them, you can go have a look.  As Sonja said, I have a lot to learn (not her words! ;)) but at least I managed to get them on here!

No, Judy, I don't think Carol Ann belongs to the Red Hatters, but she used the poem for her theme, anyway.  There are two groups of those here in my little town, but I haven't taken part as yet.  My goodness!  You and Norm must be living on the WILD side of town!  hee hee.

I believe we are soon going to have to purchase a wheelchair for Beth.  She can barely drag her feet, and using the walker is really putting a load on her arms and hands. Sigh.................will it get better?  Please, Lord.

Sonja, praise God for His watchcare over your brother!  My goodness, that could have had a much different ending.  I'm so glad he is safe, and getting the car in shape, too.  Nice of you and Mike to give him the car.  Hello to your little sweeties.

RIA!!  I missed your post yesterday, it is always so refreshing to read your words.  I also like light colors, but not necessarily white.  I used all pale pastels in my house, and I like it a lot.  Some rooms are already looking like they could use a fresh coat of paint.  I did all the sponging or ragging techniques on the walls, so if I redo it that way, it will be a lot of work.  Don't work too hard, just keep plugging along and it will get finished.  Once it's done, though, what a big relief it is!  (Been there, done that---more than once!)

We are getting our stuff into the 5th wheel trailer getting ready to pull out early Wednesday morning.  We are heading to Hershey, Nebraska, for our annual family reunion.  It is at my eldest sister's place this year.  Abby, Beth and John are going with us, so we have a pickup full.  But it's a 4 door pickup, so it's okay.  I just have to figure out how to get Beth into and out of it.

I just stopped by to see if CP was back up, now I must get back to my framing.  I want to get it all finished before we leave.  I'll be back later!

    Worship: God's Inward Necessity

So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created
him; male and female He created them.
    --Genesis 1:27

I believe that He created man out of no external necessity. I
believe it was an internal necessity. God, being the God He was and
is, and being infinitely perfect and infinitely beautiful and
infinitely glorious and infinitely admirable and infinitely loving,
out of His own inward necessity had to have some creature that was
capable of admiring Him and loving Him and knowing Him. So God
made man in His own image; in the image and likeness of God made
He him; and He made him as near to being like Himself as it was
possible for the creature to be like the Creator. The most godlike
thing in the universe is the soul of man.

The reason God made man in His image was that he might appreciate
God and admire and adore and worship; so that God might not be a
picture, so to speak, hanging in a gallery with nobody looking at
Him. He might not be a flower that no one could smell; He might
not be a star that no one could see. God made somebody to smell
that flower, the lily of the valley. He wanted someone to see that
glorious image. He wanted someone to see the star, so He made us
and in making us He made us to worship Him  Worship: The Missing
    Jewel, 3.

"What an incredible thought, Almighty God, that You desire and even
in some sense need my worship! Be pleased this morning, Lord, as I
do indeed smell the flower and see the star, as I 'admire and adore
    and worship.' Amen."

Mieka!  How wonderful to see you here!!  It is a joy to at least try to answer the question you asked Pat.
QuoteHe that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.
God is indeed in the hearts of His people - but so is the old, fallen, sinful nature.  It's a warfare between the two.  It is therefore dangerous to trust the heart, for we don't always know whether it's the old or the renewed nature we are trusting.  Better by far to trust the Holy Scriptue, God's Word, the Bible.  That's why it's really wonderful to have as much of it as possible in memory.  May our God give you grace and understanding - as I know He does!

    Words: Sanford F. Bennett, 1868.
    Music: Joseph P. Webster, 1868

Mr. Webster, like many musicians, was of an exceedingly nervous and sensitive nature, and subject to periods of depression, in which he looked upon the dark side of all things in life. I had learned his peculiarities so well that on meeting him I could tell at a glance if he was melancholy, and had found that I could rouse him up by giving him a new song to work on.

He came into my place of business [in Elkhorn, Wisconsin,] walked down to the stove, and turned his back on me without speaking. I was at my desk. Turning to him, I said, "Webster, what is the matter now?" "It's no matter," he replied, "it will be all right by and by." The idea of the hymn came me like a flash of sunlight, and I replied, "The Sweet By and By! Why would not that make a good hymn?" "Maybe it would," he said indifferently. Turning to my desk I penned the words of the hymn as fast as I could write. I handed the words to Webster. As he read his eyes kindled, and stepping to the desk he began writing the notes. Taking his violin, he played the melody and then jotted down the notes of the chorus. It was not over thirty minutes from the time I took my pen to write the words before two friends with Webster and myself were singing the hymn.

    Sanford Fillmore Bennett (1836-1898)

This song was sung in the 1941 Academy award winning movie "Sergeant York."

There's a land that is fairer than day,
    And by faith we can see it afar;
For the Father waits over the way
To prepare us a dwelling place there.

    Refrain

In the sweet by and by,
    We shall meet on that beautiful shore;
In the sweet by and by,
We shall meet on that beautiful shore.

We shall sing on that beautiful shore
    The melodious songs of the blessed;
And our spirits shall sorrow no more,
Not a sigh for the blessing of rest.

    Refrain

    To our bountiful Father above,
We will offer our tribute of praise
For the glorious gift of His love
And the blessings that hallow our days.
