JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Daily Devotion...

Trusting His Wisdom

Corinthians 1:19-21

19.)For it is written:
"I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate."
20.)Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?
21.)For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.

     George Washington Carver, born a slave in the 1800s, grew into a man of great wisdom.  As a teacher at Tuskegee Institute in Alabama, he taught hundreds of young people to become productive citizens.  Carver, who discovered numerous products made from the peanut and sweet potato, helped people to develop farming ideas that were more productive.  This great teacher was often ridiculed for his practices.  Some people thought his discoveries foolish.  Yet he continued the research that would help humankind.

     As in Paul's day, God will always be wiser than the scholars and philosophers of the day.  Foolish people's wisdom got in their way of knowing God. As you study God's Word,  look for examples of His wisdom and then trust His wisdom.

Dear God, give me the wisdom to change those things I can and need to change.

Oh, Wonderful Word!

Words: Fanny Crosby, circa 1886.
Music: Ira D. Sankey

"The Word of the Lord endureth forever." 1 Peter 1:25

Oh, wonderful, wonderful Word of the Lord!
True wisdom its pages unfold;
And though we may read them a thousand times o'er,
They never, no never, grow old!
Each line hath a treasure, each promise a pearl,
That all if they will may secure;
And we know that when time and the world pass away,
God's Word shall forever endure.

Oh, wonderful, wonderful Word of the Lord!
The lamp that our Father above
So kindly has lighted to teach us the way
That leads to the arms of His love!
Its warnings, its counsels, are faithful and just;
Its judgments are perfect and pure;
And we know that when time and the world pass away,
God's Word shall forever endure.

Oh, wonderful, wonderful Word of the Lord!
Our only salvation is there;
It carries conviction down deep in the heart,
And shows us ourselves as we are.
It tells of a Savior, and points to the cross,
Where pardon we now may secure;
For we know that when time and the world pass away,
God's Word shall forever endure.

Oh, wonderful, wonderful Word of the Lord!
The hope of our friends in the past;
Its truth, where so firmly they anchored their trust,
Through ages eternal shall last.
Oh, wonderful, wonderful Word of the Lord!
Unchanging, abiding and sure;
For we know that when time and the world pass away,
God's Word shall forever endure.

Good morning, friends,

Yes, I truly hope Pat's computer is going to get in good shape shortly. She's had enough trouble with it.

I know what a burden she carries for her own difficulties, those of others, and then the web hosting, as well.

Pat, you're in my prayers.

Nashville weather is nice right now. I'm very cold natured (as y'all already know), so the mid-80s temps are perfect as far as I'm concerned.

Well, I'm heading in to work early today to be available for a conference call that can begin as early as 8 am.

Y'all have a good day.

Ruth Ann

Hi everyone.  Just back from walking at the "Y" and coffee at the cafe.  This is Calvin Cove day so we will be going to the church after lunch for a little while.

Pat, sorry to read that your big computer is giving you problems.  Hope it will be something simple to have fixed and that you don't lose your files.

I spent all afternoon installing the new computer for my friend from church.  Everything went well and I got her online and the programs installed that she and her husband wanted.  It was a very fast computer.

Sonja, thanks for the fine devotional thoughts and hymn today.  Know Pat appreciates the help.

Ruth Ann, glad to read you are feeling better.

Liz, a cat and a bird make quite a combination.  Glad the bird wasn't hurt.  My sister-in-law has a bird as a pet and it is a lot of company to her as she lives alone.

Janet, glad to see you home safe and sound.  Sounds like you had a scary experience with that tire.  Glad you had such a good time at the family reunion and that Abby enjoyed herself even if she did get a bit irate. :)

Marilyn, sure don't understand why you are having so many problems with your new computer.  The restore points in XP are certainly great to have.

Eddie, thanks for the suggestions on things to see in Colorado.  We will probably take in some of those although won't have too many days to sight see.  I have been to Leadville but it was many years ago.  IT sounds like you have a great vacation planned.  I have been to the Biltmore house a couple of times and it is certainly worthwhile and that area is very beautiful in terms of scenery.

Ruth, your schools really get out late.  Ours have been out since the last week in May.  Sure you are counting the days.  It is nice of you to treat your students.

Guess I had better get busy with some projects on my schedule today.  Hope everyone has a great day.

Pat

Hi folks!

I'm at my neighbour's home and won't be able to have my fellow look at my computer till tomorrow night.

So, here I am suffering from withdrawal being absent from you all.

Thanks so very much, Soni, for looking after opening a new topic for all of us.

I was looking forward to seeing what Ria wrote today but she's not been in yet I don't think.  I love the little devotionals from her.

Must go and hopefully she'll let me back later.

Welcome home, Janet.

Tonight is my grandson's graduation from Public School into high school so I'm going to that tonight.   It's up at Mildmay, Ontario so won't be home till later.

Papa John

Good morning.  It is 9:10 on Tuesday morning and already Marilyn has been here.  Well, I have no excuse except that I slept until 7:00 o'clock this morning.

I'm not sure what's on the agenda for today.  Someone asked me Sunday night what my hobbies were.  I had to say, computer and reading.  I used to do a lot of swimming in summer but I don't seem to feel like it as I used to.

Sometimes I seem to tire easily and I have to do what my dad used to tell me to do.  "All right, snap out of it," he would say, meaning get up and get busy.  I find that is a little harder to do these days.  Dad has been gone almost 60 years but I can still hear him say, "All right, snap out of it."

Gal 6:9-10 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.  As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.  (KJV)

Have a wonderful day today!

Larry:  How exciting that you will be in Denver - we are about 75 miles north.

Carol

Janet

Good morning!  And good afternoon to Ria and anyone else on the other side of the big pond!

I have had my swim and my coffee and a couple of calls with my sisters.  We are trying to write down ideas as they pop inot our minds for improvements to the reunion next year.

My sister Doris and I painted a canvas backdrop for taking photos, and it really improved things.  But there are so many of us that we need another one the same size, so it will be long enough (or wide enough, really).  So we may get another one the same size and let them overlap a bit, as if we sew them together they will be too heavy and bulky to handle and hang.

I am so thrilled with my new camera!  But I need to correct something I told you.  It is not a true SLR.  I cannot use other lenses on it---but I sure do like it!  I got the first prints from it at Wal-Mart the other day, and they are really nice.  I want to get some prints of the family photos we took.

Pat, I hope that computer gets well TODAY!!!  I miss you!

Welcome to Alma!  If you read this, just scroll down till you see the  "reply" button, click on it, and type your post in the box that comes up, then click on "post" and tell us about yourself!  We are so glad to have you here!

I am still catching up from our days away, see you a little later!

Thanks Sonifo.  That was a nice start to the morning.

I read an interesting sermon this morning about Galations 3:23-29, written by a Presbyterian minister.  He made reference to Harry Potter, and I guess we have all heard about him.  Tho' I have not read the books....
The sermon described how Harry was involved in a struggle centred on the issue of racism and prejudice.  Taking out the magical terms in the book, we have a theme from the Book of Galations.

The sermon went on to describe how Jesus, the apostles and most of His followers, were all Jewish.  Where did the Gentiles, wanting to follow Jesus, fit into the picture?

Paul taught that when Gentiles accepted Christ and were baptized, they were fully accepted by God.  They should also be fully accepted by Jewish Christians.  Peter did not agree and sided with the more strict Jewish believers.  Jesus was Jewish and for Jews.  Others could come into the new covenant if they became Jews first!

Fortunately, the council of Jerusalem agreed with Paul.  Gentiles did not have to become Jewish converts first and everything was fulfilled by following Jesus.

The sermon clearly showed how we still have the same struggle in churches today.  How easily believers forget that we all have the same standing before God.  That all believers stand before God's word and are accountable to it.  That is what determines who stays and who goes!  Christians and churches need to remember that we all have the same common parent, God our father, and a common brother, Jesus our Lord.

This is a short version and in my words.  Hope the meaning is clear.  I rarely express opinions of a strong nature about the lack of love in our churches.  Never thought of Harry Potter as an example....Goes to show that there really isn't many new things in the world.  One way or another, things go back to the age old battle of prejudice....

Miss Sqeek is being good this morning!! ::)

God Bless.
Liz

Hey, guys and gals!  Just eating my daily lunchy stuff here, except in this case it's fried chicken courtesy of Karma, Incorporated :-)

Sometimes my days at work are nothing but one struggle after another, with a couple of ongoing struggles lurking on the fringes all the time.  Those of you who have "stress free" jobs really should count your blessings.  I think back to the days when I was in production work - punch the clock at 7, work till 4:30 or 5, punch the clock, forget the job, go home.  While it was not high paying work, there was a definite freedom that just doesn't exist now that I'm on a full time salary, expected to produce results rather than working a shift, and fighting a continual battle of keeping customers happy (eg, low prices, quick deliveries, good equipment) and keeping management happy (eg, doing more with less, maximizing profits, securing additional orders, and conforming to a schedule that I know is virtually impossible).  Those who are not a part of modern manufacturing, with all it's "lean" tendencies, "loss control", "six sigma" quality control, "kaisen" maximization, and foreign outsourcing should really be thankful that you have other means of income.  It's really not a lot of fun to try to make a living in this field any more.

Now that I've complained my way through an entire post, I really do hope all of you have a good day.  Thanks to Liz for the comments concerning Harry Potter.

Pat, sure hope that computer behaves better.  Our phone line has been terrible lately, but they have said they are doing some extended testing to find the problem, since it has been so repetitive.  I really wish they would give us a new line and make DSL possible :)

Good day to all of you!

Good afternoon.  Long morning.  Since I have gotten this new computer, I have been unable to burn any CD's.  So this morning I uninstalled Nero.  Re-installed Nero.  Then went on the web to see if there was an upgrade and ordered Nero 6 software.  I printed out the guideline...that should help.  But I haven't tried it to see if I succeed in burning a CD.

If I want to burn pictures on CD's...is that images?  Should I use C-ROM )ISO), Audio CD, Mixed-mode CD, CD-Copy, Video-CD, CD-Rom (Boot), CD-ROM (Hybrid), CD-ROM (UDF) & CD-ROM (UDF/ISO).  I dislike these alphabet games, especially when they don't explain the alphabet.

Copying to a floppy is soooooo much easier...drag and drop and you are done!!!!!!

Etta Sue, I just go to "My Computer" click on where your files are that you want to burn and right click, then send to the cdrw burner.  I don't use a program to burn my pictures.  I used to but the guy at the computer store showed me this way and it is much easier.

Alma~Your message was not a bore.  It is nice to get to know the new folks here.  Thank you for sharing some personal things about yourself.

A canon d10...that is an awesome camera.  That was my first choice but the money was an issue.  I do love the camera I have now. Digital Canon EOS 300 Rebel.

Hope to hear more from you.

I got to run.  Hubby home for lunch.
Be back later.

Etta, Bernard can correct me if I'm wrong, but when using Nero, even if it is pictures, still select data. Then, go from there.   At least that is the way we do it.

Welcome ALMA!!!  You must truly be a saint.  The work you do is valuable, I know.  My father was in a semi-comatose/chronic vegatative state for 2 years following a heart attack, and my mom took care of him at home.  We had a homehealth nurse come in a couple of times a week.  We got really attached to her, so I can imagine what it is like to be there all the time.
You and Marilyn have something in common, I believe.  Marilyn also helps people in their homes.

I hear a series of small crashes coming from my son's room.  Better go check.

(seems like there is always, soemthing, huh?))

Love youns
karmat

Pat

Just a very quick post here while at my neighbour's home.  She's a gem letting me come in and check my websites where I volunteer.

I'm so happy to see you making yourself at home, Alma.  What a job you're doing.

This is just very short.

Thanks again Soni.

Our Father,
Who art in heaven,
hallowed be Thy Name;
Thy Kingdom come;
Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
and forgive us our debts
as we forgive our debtors,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power and the glory
Forever.
Amen.

Pictures ARE data, especially if you are just "burning" the .jpg files.  There ARE other types of picture files, such as the Kodak formats, and that's where it gets confusing.  Since you've got a Mavica, Etta, I know you need to save .jpgs, so just use the "data" option.  I'm not positive about UDF versus ISO, at this point, but I'll try to look at home later tonight and offer more tips.  Normally it's almost not an issue if you only burn them for yourself, but if you are giving them to someone else, you need the universal format.  I'll try to offer more help later.

Alma, I want to welcome you to the CP site.  It sounds like you are doing such important and difficult work in your caregiving.  What a blessing you must be to the lady and her family.  I will look forward to seeing some of your photos.

Etta Sue, if I am just copying files to a CD or jpg files I just highlight them and drop them onto the CD drive where I have the CD-RW.  In Windows XP a little window pops up immediately saying that you have files available to write to CD.  Just click on it and select the files you want to put on the CD from that window, usually all of them, and the process begins.  When I want to make a music CD I do use MusicMatch Jukebox and the audio setting.  If you use that you need to check the options to be sure it will close the CD at the end of the  burning or you won't get automatic start and the disk may not play in a regular CD player.  I can also use the MusicMatch program, which I really like, to burn data CDs and that is the way I backup the mp3 music files I have on my compuger.

Nards, sorry to read that you have such a stressful job.  I can relate to that as it was my job that the my first heart doctor felt caused my heart programs.  I am now concerned about my son as he is in a very stressful job as a Director of Manufacturing Operations for his company.  Many nights he doesn't get home until 8 pm or later.  He already has some health problems.  Unfortunately with the higher pay goes the higher stress levels.  Nards, do take care of yourself and find ways to relax and leave it at the office.

Liz, I think you were right on the money with what you wrote.

Pat and I have been invited to our friends home for dinner this evening so am looking forward to a very pleasant evening of good food and conversation.

Ladybug

Hello all.

Ria I can't wait to see pictures of your home.  How many more rooms do you have to paint?  It sounds like quite a job you have had.  I love your "accent" it is truly beautiful.

Alma I admire your devotion to your friend.  It must be difficult to see a dear one suffer like she is.  Yes you and Marilyn will have a lot in common here at CP.

Etta Sue You are speaking a foreign language when you talk about your computer.  I say good for you to understand what you need to do.

I am going for tonight,

Blessings all

Marilyn

Alma as a few here have already stated you and I do have a lot in common. I am not a registered nurse or any other kind of nurse, but I am a caregiver and do a lot of nursing type stuff. I am learing from the wound care home health nurse how to care for the wounds a diabetic gets, nutrition for diabetics, I already know how to give shots of all kinds. I have 2 client currently, a 58 yr. old diabetic woman and a 95 yr. old legally blind woman.

The other thing in common is that I moved from your area last year. I know exactly where Big Bear city is. My last EX had parents in Sugarloaf. Agood friend of my has a daughter  right across the street from the airport.
