JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

    Morning Devotional...

If the Lord be with us, why then is all this befallen us?
    Judges 6:13

My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.
    Ex.  33:14

From a broken heart and a bewildered mind, many believers have asked Gideon's questions. "Why has all this befallen us?" "Where then are all Thy miracles?" "The Lord hath forsaken us." "He hath delivered us into the hands of our enemies."

There seemed no hope for Gideon, but there was. When he built an altar and called it Jehovah-Shalom, he heard the Lord say, "Peace be unto thee; thou shalt not die" (Jud. 6:23).

Thank God for the promised peace and preservation of His presence this very day.

    Evangelism: The Longing After Eternity

He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity
    in their hearts....
    --Ecclesiastes 3:11

We take it for granted and we are not surprised at all about the
eternal nature of God but the greater wonder is that God has seen fit
to put His own everlastingness within the hearts of men and women....

I believe that this is the truth about our troubles and our problems:
We are disturbed because God has put everlastingness in our hearts.
He has put a longing for immortality in our beings. He has put
something within men and women that demands God and heaven--and yet we
are too blind and sinful to find Him or even to look for Him!...

Men and women need to be told plainly, and again and again, why they
are disturbed and why they are upset. They need to be told why they
are lost and that if they will not repent they will certainly perish.
Doctors and counselors will tell troubled men and women that their
problems are psychological, but it is something deeper within the
human being that troubles and upsets--it is the longing after
    eternity!
Christ the Eternal Son, pp. 52-54

"Lord, we long for eternity, but there is so much commotion, activity,
and noise in our world that that longing is too often drowned out.
Help me to break through that madness with the message of Christ
    today. Amen."

And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.
And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him.
And he said Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.........
And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou do ask after my name?  And He blessed him there.
And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.
And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him and he halted upon his thigh.

    Genesis 32:24-31 abgd.

This is a very special passage to me.  There are times in my own life when I use the words "I will not let You go until You bless me.". times when I feel that all is darkness and that I too am wrestling with God. I am sure that you all have such times.

    Pat
, thank you for your words of wisdom this morning.  May God help me to hold my own tongue and think before I speak.

Thank you also Chris and Margit.  "Heaven is in Our hearts".  Yes He put it there.

When we're gathered in the spirit
It's a promise that He gives us
When we gather in His name
There's a love we feel in Jesus
There's a manna that He feeds us
It's a promise that He gives us
When we gather in His name

And we know when we're together
    Sharing love and understanding
That our brothers and our sisters
Feel the oneness that He brings

Hello everyone, or as they say here, Prevyetsvuyou vas!  Had a good church service today.  Preached at the International Fellowship (In English), and had a wonderful response from the Lord.  Had several people come up to me afterwords and tell me that the message confirmed what God had been working in them already.  It is tough sometimes to preach here, as there are missionaries, diplomats, Belarussian Businessmen, students, and others, and it is tough to know where to point a sermon.   But God is faithful.

Afterwards a bunch of us (4 families) went to this Belarussian Restaurant which had been recommended to us.  Well, the recommendation was not correct.  It took 3 hours for us to get fed.  We kept wanting to walk out, and the waitress kept telling us 5 more minutes, what she did not tell us was how many 5 more minutes...  We should have taken a clue when she came out to us and told us they didn't have any rice, or chicken, or coke and left at that point, but we stuck it out, and had a true cultural experience.  We left the restaurant dissatisfied, but oh well, you live and learn.

We were planning on going out on a walk this afternoon, but the long restaurant and now it is raining has stopped this.  So now back home and watching the olympics.
    A watched clock never boils.

    Good Morning Everyone...

I was hoping to go to church this morning but my plans have changed.

Mike, did you leave the servers a tract in that restaurant?  Too bad that you had such an unsatisfactory time.

    Chris, what a wonderful verse!

Pat - No, I didn't leave a tract for the waitress, that is against the law here.  But just for your enjoyment, here is a pic of what one of the guys in our group waited over 2 hours for...

Not a very appetizing fish, and wasn't even cooked all the way.  We were afraid to send it back for fear it would disappear for another hour or so...

EEeeeewwwww  ::)    Cultural experience indeed!   :o
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

      Janet

I agree......EEEeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwww!  Doesn't look very appetizing to me!  Those experiences are not enjoyable, but they are long remembered!  Glad your sermon hit the mark, Mike.

Pat, sorry you didn't make it to church today.  We took Beth to one church, we went to another, then back to pick her up.  She was in pain, had taken a pain pill, so had trouble staying awake, she said.  Our service was great!

YesPat, the party is a surprize for Beth.  She has always wanted a surprise party, and this year she is clueless!  It will be so fun to see her so blessed!  There are friends coming from as far away as Dallas to her party---she will be so thrilled!  I'm worried about running out of food, but it's not about food, it's about Beth.  I wish there were time to organize a sort of "This is your life, Beth Brandt" program, since so many from her past are coming.  And no, John won't be able to be here, but he is sending her gifts to me to have at the party.  I wish he could come!

Soni, I picked up several hats yesterday I will let you have for your studio.  Email or IM me about them and I will tell you how much they cost (not much!)  ;)  Sounds like you're getting into photography BIG time!!

Jenny, are you over your cold now?  I hope so.  ((hugs))

Hello, dear Ruth Ann.  I would love to meet you.........maybe one day (before heaven) we can meet.

Hey, Etta Sue!  How big is a grounhog?  I see prairie dogs all the time, but don't think I have seen a groundhog.  My Dad used to say that if they had called them prairie squirresl instead of prairie dogs, people would have eaten them and they wouldn't have become such a destructive nuisance.

Lots more to do on the memory album and other stuff for the Big Birthday Bash!!  See y'all later!

Pat, yes indeed the "God shaped vacuum" inside all outside of Christ.

Dear Jenny, remember the storm on the sea of Galilee, Jesus saw through the strom from where He was, praying on land, probably praying that the disciples faith be not shaken, for they had just seen the feeding of the thousands of people, and they had gathered up the baskets of leftovers, which were possibly in the ship with them, but Jesus tested them on that sea , He tests us all, but He is praying for us too!
Best of all, although storms will come, He will come to us in the storm, He will not let us be overwhelmed!
"Be of good cheer, in the world you will have troubles, but I have overcome the world."
Hold on tight to those oars,
"and immediately, the boat was at the land."

This was the basic teaching of Pastor Adrian Rogers tonight, and it did me good! :)

      Marilyn

Janet I am sure Beth will be so pleased to have her surprise Birthday Party.

This after noon several of us are going over the the AG church in Arcata to a Sing-in, they are going to be singing all the old songs. Praise the Lord, I love the old songs.

Mike what a terrible looking fish dinner, just the fish and a piece of lemon and not even cooked enough, yuck  eeeeeewwwwwwwwww eeeeeeewwwwwww
Did anyone eat part of it?

Hi everyone else. gotta get going be back later I am going to see the family after I get back so I won't be in until later.

"Your joy, your pain, your loss, your gain - are ours...for you are one of us." That is the powerful message of family.  At it's best even an internet family can help fill our need for closeness. Your joy, your pain, your loss, your gain - can be shared.  You belong.  And together we'll celebrate it!  Or, we will get through it.

Hi everyone.  It is a beautiful Sunday afternoon here in Georgia.  We had a good Sunday School class, which started a study of the Book of John and which we will be studying for sometime.  Then we had a powerful sermon based on Luke 13:10-17 concerning Jesus healing the crippled woman on the Sabbath.  We also had a baptism of the youngest member of a family of six chldren.

Then about 13 of us went out to eat and today didn't have to wait too long and were able to be seated together.  Skief I am happy to say that no one was served anything that looked like that fish as the food was very good.  I came home and took a little nap as have been tired feeling the last couple of days, which I think was due to some stressful days we had this past week.

Janet, it sounds like the party is coming along nicely and Beth is going to have a wonderful affair.

Jenny and Chris, thanks for the devotioanl thoughts and also Pat, thanks for the fine daily devotionals you come up with day after day.  I don't always comment just find them a blessing.

Marilyn, hope you get to sing all your old favorite hymns this afternoon and then have a good visit with your family.

Ria I am thinking of you and hope your father is adjusting and that your eyes are doing better.

Etta Sue, we used to see ground hogs on the farm.

Hope everyone has a nice evening.

      Etta Sue

Mike ~ First thing, they would have to cut the head off of that fish for me.  I wouldn't eat anything that would be staring back at me.  Second, I wouldn't order a fish like that anyway.  Give me a fish filet any day, though.

Janet ~ How big is a groundhog?  Let's see.  I'd say as big as a medium dog but shorter legs!!!!  They amble across the ground rather than run or gallop.  The problem with them is they destroy vegetation.  Farmers don't like them.  And they burrow under foundations and weaken them.  BTW...still 4 pieces of apples in the trap!!!!

I have something I want to share.  A lady at my church has an email list of about 200 people.  You email her if you are in need of something....like a 30' extention ladder to use to prayer request of a sick child...to a need for a baby-sitter to furniture you are wanting to give away.  It is a very effective email program.  Yesterday at 7 a.m. I received this email from the BB (Broadcast Babe) list.

QuoteJason and I had been noticing that Joseph (our son, 9 weeks old) does not seem to focus on anything and really hadn't looked at us.  Jason took him to the eye doctor today, and they agree that there is a problem.  He didn't respond to toys or even lights, and he does not flinch or blink when something comes at his face quickly.  They have refered him to a specialist in Greenwood.  His appointment is August 30th.

      Thank you so very much,
      Devon

Today, an announcement was made at church about little Joseph but when I got home, this was in my email box.

QuoteI don't think I ever really believed in miracles...until now.  After hearing there was a good chance Joseph was blind we rushed him to RILEY for a more thorough exam from a pediatric ophthalmologist.  She performed several tests, but I could not believe when right there in front of the doctor, Jason and me... he was tracking a toy!  This specialist acted as though she couldn't believe that a doctor, just earlier the same day, deduced that he had a chance of blindness.  She found NOTHING to lead her to believe that he could not see, and told us that she saw no real reason to perform any other testing.  In my disbelief and search for a scientific explanation she agreed to an EEG.
At 10:30 I was mourning the probability that Joseph would never be able to see what a color really is or see my face when I am proud of him.  I began to pray and ask everyone we knew to pray.  I don't think I've ever prayed so hard.
It is so easy to say, "I am a Christian", without really giving up all your doubts and cravings for worldly explanation, trusting and knowing that God can do anything... even miracles.  I KNOW this was a miracle, a true lesson in FAITH.
Thank you to everyone who prayed and took this journey with us.  It is YOUR miracle as well.
      Devon

      Yes!!!!  Thank you, God!!!!

That's a lovely hymn, Jenny and Chris!

      Hymn History:

One of the surprises about devotional verse of the mid-nineteenth century is the way in which it sold. Edition after edition of verse by writers who would not be accounted poets in the strict sense were bought up. Anna L. Waring's poems had that welcoming experience. At the age of thirty in 1850 she published her "Hymns and Meditations", a small book of nineteen hymns which by 1863 had gone into ten editions, and contained thirty-eight hymns.

A Glamorganshire Welsh woman, her poems have the phrase and turn of one who not only had a genuine piety but knew how to express it. Four of her hymns have found permanent recognition: "My Heart Is Resting O My God", "Go Not Far From me O My Strength", "Father I Know That All My Life and In Heavenly Love Abiding".

The nineteenth century would have voted for the first named as her best hymn, but the twentieth, judging by the popularity of its choice, goes for "In heavenly love abiding". Not a robust or a bold hymn of discipleship, but one of calm and complete gospel assurance.

      Wherever He may guide me,
      No wants shall turn me back;
      My Shepherd is beside me,
      And nothing can I lack:

      His wisdom ever waketh,
      His sight is never dim;
He knows the way He taketh,
And I will walk with Him.

      Luke 12:32
Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

This is my funeral hymn.  I have a copy of it in the folder with all my details. I love it too.

I spoke to Carol earlier.  She is still thrilled with C.P.
Ah C.P.   Your fame is spreading abroad.  Carol hopes to move to France soon.  Already her son and dil are over there.  They have a "puter" too.  Perhaps in time Karen, her DIL will be popping in. Gosh I will miss her lots...I Want her to be happy though. Good job we are Web-mates too so that won't change.

Nearly bedtime for me so I will say Goodnight folks.

      God Bless

      Ruth Ann Bice

Carol, I hope you will not only "take the name of Jesus with you," but will also take ChristianPhotographers with you as well.

I've rejoiced to see your postings.

I neglected to tell y'all my praise from yesterday. My son was physically able to drive all the way home from Atlanta, and also for the first time in over 2 years, he turned the radio on low to a station playing nice music.

Next thing I knew, occasionally I heard his deep bass voice humming along with the music.

Really, really was music to my ears. The stress is not over, the pain is not over, but at least yesterday we saw a bit of a break in the clouds. Thanks be to God!

      Ruth Ann

      Papa John

Our Bible class started a new study this morning.  We will be learning about aging as a Christian,  Bible teachings, problems, challenges, relating to aging.   ---  We had a very good worship today.  The sermon was about Amazing Grace.  We sang songs about the grace of God.  It made me think about how wonderful it is to be saved by the grace of God and to share in his wonderful promises.

SKIEF,  I will join the others in saying the fish did not look very appetizing.  We spent ten years in foreign mission work and we fortunately were never served anything quite like your fish.

Rom 5:1-2  Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,  through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.  (NIV)

Gal 2:21  I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!"  (NIV)

Eph 1:7  In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace  (NIV)

Dear all, I just have a few minutes to stop in.. I had Miss Cheryl in the ER in Friday as she had taken very ill. I didn't think she was going to make it through the weekend.  Her fever was oer 100.6 and we prayed over her I got her dressed in bed up and in the car and to the hosiptal we went.. She was iv'ed and xrayed, given antibiotics and sent home.. We have been better today as she has taken water and some food.. I tell you I thought it was the end..She has broncitis which is not good but is cureable.. So here we go again..

I did get to read everyones posts. You are all in my prayers.. I haven't had sleep for 2 days and I am tired.. I am going to have me some dinner and go to bed.. God bless each and everyone of you ....
      ABOVE ALL PUT ON LOVE..

      In Jesus Name, Alma

      Ruth

      Thanks for the devotional Pat:

Skief:  That is not my idea of a dinner being served like that, just a question what was the cost.

      Jenny:  Good to see you.

      Ruth Ann: Praise the Lord.
Ruthie: It is nice that you are enjoying your guest.
Alma: You are such a sweetheart with the work you are doing.

We have had another beautiful day but I think it is coming to an end as my brother in law in the north was saying that they have rain and that is a sure sign that it will be arriving her sometime tomorrow or Tuesday at the latest.

Sue & Bruce stopped by to say hello on their way home from a week of vacation it is always so nice to see them.

Hey Stephen how about giving this a try we would love to see you.

      Ruth

      Now the Day Is Over
      (Click to hear music)

Under His wings you will find refuge.
You will not fear the terror of night.
      Psalm 91:4-5

Words: Sabine Baring-Gould, in Church Times, 1865

      Music: Joseph Barnby, 1868

      Now the day is over,
      Night is drawing nigh,
      Shadows of the evening
      Steal across the sky.

      Now the darkness gathers,
      Stars begin to peep,
      Birds, and beasts and flowers
      Soon will be asleep.

      Jesus, give the weary
      Calm and sweet repose;
      With Thy tenderest blessing
      May mine eyelids close.

      Grant to little children
      Visions bright of Thee;
      Guard the sailors tossing
      On the deep, blue sea.

      Comfort those who suffer,
      Watching late in pain;
      Those who plan some evil
      From their sin restrain.

      Through the long night watches
      May Thine angels spread
      Their white wings above me,
      Watching round my bed.

      When the morning wakens,
      Then may I arise
      Pure, and fresh, and sinless
      In Thy holy eyes.

      Glory to the Father,
      Glory to the Son,
      And to Thee, blest Spirit,
      While all ages run.

Ruth Ann, thank you for that good report on Leslie!  Every bit of encouragement gives our hearts hope, doesn't it?

      Hi, Ruth, how are you?

Alma, do try to get some rest, you don't need stress in addition to your back problems.  Bless you for your kindness to Miss Cheryl.  It takes special people to do the kind of work you and Marilyn are doing, and it is so needed.  If ever I need care, I hope God sends a Christian lady to care for me!

Papa John, that sounds like a very timely study your Sunday school class is beginning.  Could you share bits of it with us here?  None of us is growing younger............ ;)

Etta Sue, thank you for that report of the miraculous healing of the baby's eyes!  It encouraged me today, when I needed it.  God is still on the throne, and His power has never diminished.

Larry, I wish you a wonderful week.  You do so much for so many, and I know you are a blessing everywhere you go.

Hi, Jenny...........even though you are probably tucked into bed by this time.  Pleasant dreams!

I just got home from church.  We had pizza and a time of sharing about the future and vision of the church.  There was pizza left over, so I got to bring some home to Beth.  She was pleased; said she had been craving pizza for a week!  ;D

I'm off to finish that memory album----------I'm on the home stretch now!
