JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Morning Devotional...

MOSES ON THE RUN
Exodus 2:11-25 NIV

One day, after Moses had grown up, he went out to where his own people were and watched them at their hard labor. He saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his own people.  Glancing this way and that and seeing no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.

The next day he went out and saw two Hebrews fighting. He asked the one in the wrong, "Why are you hitting your fellow Hebrew?"

The man said, "Who made you ruler and judge over us? Are you thinking of killing me as you killed the Egyptian?"

Then Moses was afraid and thought, "What I did must have become known."

When Pharaoh heard of this, he tried to kill Moses, but Moses fled from Pharaoh and went to live in Midian, where he sat down by a well.  Now a priest of Midian had seven daughters, and they came to draw water and fill the troughs to water their father's flock.  Some shepherds came along and drove them away, but Moses got up and came to their rescue and watered their flock.

When the girls returned to Reuel their father, he asked them, "Why have you returned so early today?"

They answered, "An Egyptian rescued us from the shepherds. He even drew water for us and watered the flock."

"And where is he?" he asked his daughters. "Why did you leave him? Invite him to have something to eat."

Moses agreed to stay with the man, who gave his daughter Zipporah to Moses in marriage.  Zipporah gave birth to a son, and Moses named him Gershom, saying, "I have become an alien in a foreign land."

During that long period, the king of Egypt died. The Israelites groaned in their slavery and cried out, and their cry for help because of their slavery went up to God. 24 God heard their groaning and he remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob. 25 So God looked on the Israelites and was concerned about them.

When was the last time you found yourself running from God?

Moses tried to make sure no one was watching before he killed the Egyptian.  But as it turned out, someone did see him, and Moses had to flee the country.

Sometimes we mistakenly think we can get away with doing wrong if no one sees or catches us.  Sooner or later, however, doing wrong will catch up with us as it did with Moses.

Even if we are not caught in this life, we will still have to face God's evaluation of our actions.

Sorry, West Coast!  This is still 'today' because it is still 'today' for me, too.  BUT!  But I had a very short night last night and no time for a nap so I thought I had better make a NEM while my eyes were still open!

Sonja ~ Just telling it like I see it, girl friend!  You know how to make a person feel good, too.

Remember for all of us to be praying for Beth and Janet this morning before and after 8 a.m. CST.

Kathy

My prayers are going out right now for Beth and Janet.  I know our God knows best...but when I see how much Beth has had to suffer with NF it just makes me want to cry & cry :'(  I see how much we have come medically...Oh, how I pray that there would be a cure for this disease.  Anyway..back to the part that God knows best.

I will be praying throughout the day and try to get back in here tonight to hear the results of the surgery.

January 27 - Knowledge Too Wonderful

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it" (Psalm 139:6).

As we come to better understand who God is, it makes us appreciate and wonder all the more that He would love us. At times, the thought of His greatness is almost overwhelming. This is the point that the psalmist had reached when he cried out that the very thought of it was too wonderful for him, more than his mind could grasp.

The psalm begins by David acknowledging God's having searched him. "Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways" (vv.2-3). We are an open book before our maker. And yet, despite God's clearly seeing the wickedness and miserable failings that are beyond even the eye of man, He loves us and provides for us. "Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me" (v.5). It was this thought that God not only tolerated him, but lovingly cared for him that was too wonderful for the author to comprehend.

How much more should we, who have seen the fine details of God's incredible salvation in the record of the New Testament, appreciate even more the extent of the love of God for us? Paul conveyed the thought that God's love is unfathomable by challenging the Ephesian believers "to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God" (Ephesians 3:18-19). How can we comprehend a love that is four dimensional? How can we be filled with such an infinite fullness that is our God? Indeed, His love passes knowledge and such knowledge is too wonderful for us! DW

Good Morning Everyone...

I had a night of sleeping and waking and finally at 6:30 I got up and sat on the couch and fell asleep!  LOL  So, my day is now late starting.

Thanks for sharing that devotion, Marilyn.  I'm going to read it again.

Cute slide, TBear!

And Etta Sue, thank you so much for opening today with this great devotion.  I read it in the night when i couldn't sleep and it caused me to think.  It's so true.

Yes, Kathy, we must all think of our dear Beth at this time.  She's been through the wringer this week with her father dying and going through a funeral and now this surgery.  Let's all remember both Janet and Beth at this time.

Love

Hi everyone!!

Remembering Janet and Beth today.  God's grace. . .

I hate emergency rooms, just so you know.  Both of our "local" hospitals (one in this county, one in the next) have new ones, but they still seem so, so, so, <karmat searches for the right word> germy.  Last night about midnight, Travis woke up sounding like a sea lion barking underwater.  Fever, etc. etc.  We gave him a breathing treatment with albuteral, and it helped a very little bit, so we go racing to the emergency room.  They see him, diagnose him with the croup, prescribed some high powered medicine and sent us on our way -- 3 hours later.  Travis and I haven't been up long.

The funny part of the story is that the emergency room has one policy with pregnant women -- get 'em up to fourth floor immediately, no questions asked.  When I walked in (nards was carrying Travis), they look at me with this look like, "hold it right there, we'll get you a chair and take you up."  Bernard had to say -- "Ignore her, he's the one we're worried about."  All night, if I had to go in the hall, I could feel eyes tracking me, just to make sure, I guess. hehehe

He's feeling some better this morning, and I think we're both tired, so we are just goin' lay around today.

It is a sunny, warm looking day today, though my mom said it was spitting snow earlier.

Have a great day, and I may be back latere.!

Oh, Ruth Ann, poor Beth.  I guess what they say is correct that the 2nd and 3rd days are worse after surgery.  Just happy that she's going to be alright though.

Please keep us posted.

So many folks "going through stuff" right now.

Karma, on the funny side, that IS funny about Nards comment.  I'm so sorry though about our wee Trav.  Give him a big love for me.

How many more days do you have now?

G'mornin' everybody!  And yes, let's remember to pray for Beth & Janet today.  Not that God is bound by time - He's not, and we can pray before, after, or duringt the needed time, and God can and will still answer.  Oh may He give the physicians special skill, insight, and success.  And may He use it all to draw Beth, Janet, and John, & others closer to Himself.

Anyone who hasn't seen Teresa Dawn's photo galleries - do it!  They're wonderful!

Standing on the Promises
(Click to hear music)

For all the promises of God in him are yea,
and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.
2 Corinthians 1:20

Author:  R. Kelso Carter, 1849-1928
Musician:  R. Kelso Carter, 1849-1928

Standing on the promises of Christ my King,
Through eternal ages let His praises ring,
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God.

Refrain
Standing, standing,
Standing on the promises of God my Savior;
Standing, standing,
I?m standing on the promises of God.

Standing on the promises that cannot fail,
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
By the living Word of God I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God.

Refrain

Standing on the promises I now can see
Perfect, present cleansing in the blood for me;
Standing in the liberty where Christ makes free,
Standing on the promises of God.

Refrain

Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,
Bound to Him eternally by love?s strong cord,
Overcoming daily with the Spirit?s sword,
Standing on the promises of God.

Refrain

Standing on the promises I cannot fall,
Listening every moment to the Spirit?s call
Resting in my Savior as my all in all,
Standing on the promises of God.

Nita

Good morning everyone.  I'm back and hopefully will remain. :)

Jane told me, yesterday, about Beth's coming surgery, so want her and Janet to know that I am adding my prayers to all the others.

I've been off with a computer with 4 viruses(virii?) then my surgery(hysterectomy and other "stuff" and recuperation.  Yesterday was little pain, and today none.   Praise God.

Ok....I take the pain part back.  Sitting at this computer does cause some pain and I'm ready to lay down again.

Later......

Karma ~ Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha! I can only imagine the looks you got. I am sorry that Travis had to go through that, but I am glad he is better. Hurry and get well Trav. That sister will be here before you know it. ;)

Pat

We're so glad to see you back, Nita.  Sorry about the viruses on your computer but more sorry that you've been through that horrible surgery.  I pray that each day you'll feel stronger and stronger.

Yes, Beth's surgery was at 8 am this morning in Amarillo so I expect that it's over and we're just waiting for the news.

Personal Life: The Habit of Holy Thought

Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against
the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the
obedience of Christ.
--2 Corinthians 10:5

What we think about when we are free to think about what we will--
that is what we are or will soon become....

Anyone who wishes to check on his true spiritual condition may do so
by noting what his voluntary thoughts have been over the last hours
or days. What has he thought about when free to think of what he
pleased? Toward what has his inner heart turned when it was free to
turn where it would? When the bird of thought was let go did it fly
out like the raven to settle upon floating carcasses or did it like
the dove circle and return again to the ark of God? Such a test is
easy to run, and if we are honest with ourselves we can discover not
only what we are but what we are going to become. We'll soon be the
sum of our voluntary thoughts....

The best way to control our thoughts is to offer the mind to God in
complete surrender. The Holy Spirit will accept it and take control
of it immediately. Then it will be relatively easy to think on
spiritual things, especially if we train our thought by long periods
of daily prayer. Long practice in the art of mental prayer (that is,
talking to God inwardly as we work or travel) will help to form the
habit of holy thought.  Born After Midnight, 44,46-47.

"Oh, Lord, You know the constant struggle so many of us have with
our thought life. You know how often our thoughts do indeed settle
on rotten carcasses. Take control of my thoughts today, and move me
along in the development of the habit of holy thought. Amen."

UPDATE ON BETH
(from Janet)

I just had a phone call from Janet from Amarillo and she said that she sure knows that many have been praying.

The surgery started at 8 am and was supposed to be 2 hours but it didn't finish until 11:15 am and she didn't get to see Beth till about 3 pm

The surgeon was expecting to find a tumor the size of a pencil erasure and he found one the size of his thumb!  And it was solid.  This tumor was in the place that only really had space for something the size of a pencil lead!

They had to remove a bit of bone in order to get this mass out and they were able to remove it ALL!

They will send it away to be sure but the surgeon on first testing of this tumor says that there was no malignancy in it!

Janet says, "Thank you all for praying!  Please keep praying!"

Pray for a supernatural quick recovery!  The doctors say that they feel that Beth will probably be able to get out of the wheel chair and start to walk again!  Praise the Lord for this news!

Beth's left eye last night was drooping quite a bit and now it's drooping more and looks very swollen so that's what Janet is going to be asking the surgeon about when she sees him.

Wow, awesome news. Thanks Pat for posting that.

Cool.  Maybe now she can find some relief!!!

Pat:  Thanks for the update on Beth's condition.  Yes, continuing to pray for a quick recovery.

Also, - for Pam.

Yes, let's remember to pray for Pam's fast recovery as well.  Imagine two of our daughters on CP having back surgery just one day after the other.

Many thanks,Pat - for the update onBeth's surgery.

I've been praying for both Beth and Pam today.  I'll be glad to hear from Ruth Ann., and know how well Pam is progressing as well.

Not much news here to report.  We did get to the Mall today to pick up a few things., including a 2005 calendar for my calendar frame.  I have one of those pine frames., and needed a calendar.  Man - those calendars are over $20.00 - and this is the smaller size too.  A few Christmases ago, I bought 3 of those frames.  One for my daughter, and one for my DIL., and one for us.  Imagine spending over $60.00 for 3 calendars every year.  Oh well, it was part of their Christmas gifts.

Well, I'm off to get into my jammies, make a mug of hot chocolate, and read the evening paper.

Perhaps I'll chek back in later.

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  It was great just now to read of the success of the operations for both Pam and Beth.

I have had a busy day but really didn't get much accomplished.  I was gone most of the morning and then went to Calvin Cove this afternoon.  Tomorrow I have to get some of my webmaster work caught up.  I will take Pat to her doctor's appointment in the morning and then we plan on eating at "Smokey Bones", which is one of our favorite places.

The concert last evening was wonderful.  The Atlanta Symphony Chamber Chorus is awesome as is the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.  We didn't get there in time to see the Chorus warmup but saw the full performance of Mozart's Requeim.  It was all in Latin but the music and vocal parts were soaring at times and very soft and controlled at others.  Before we went to symphony hall we ate at a famous Atlanta restruarant called the Colanade and had a very good meal.  It was late when we got home.

Good to see everyone posting.  It is late so am going to be brief tonight.

Marilyn

Thanks for the update on Beth I have passed the news on to my prayer chain. Please let Janet know we are still praying for that supernatural healing.

I am going to return RuthAnn's call now.

Let's continue to pray for our two "daughters"!

Tomorrow's devotion is a little bit longer than normal but we're having a "full course meal" from God's Word from our Iain over on the Isle of Lewis.

So, please enjoy it and meditate on it...
