Who were "they"?

People like you and me. But, praise the Lord, He did it to procure forgiveness for people like you and me.

Good morning everyone.  I'm finishing up a portfolio I had to do for  a teaching award thingy, adn thought I'd jump in and say "Hi."

Everything is going well at the Shuford house.  Kristi is doing great, and Travis has caught ya'lls cold thing.  I'm not sure why, but we have caught everything coming and going this winter.  I think I am ready for Spring!!

I want to apologize for not posting much recently.  I'm in here to read quite a bit, but I am usually holding Kristi, or "bouncing" her to sleep, and it is just too difficult to type one handed (not htat I do a lot better with both hands).  Anyway, I'm reading adn stayign up to date.

Have an awesome Easter -- who else can celebrate like we can??

Pastoral Ministry: Some New Mystery Bagged

For all the Athenians and the foreigners who were there spent their
time in nothing else but either to tell or to hear some new thing. 
--Acts 17:21

The temptation to forget the few spiritual essentials and to go
wandering off after unimportant things is very strong, especially
to Christians of a certain curious type of mind. Such persons find
the great majors of the faith of our fathers altogether too tame
for them. Their souls loathe that light bread; their appetites
crave the gamy tang of fresh-killed meat. They take great pride in
their reputation as being mighty hunters before the Lord, and any
time we look out we may see them returning from the chase with some
new mystery hanging limply over their shoulder.

Usually the game they bring down is something on which there is a
biblical closed season. Some vague hint in the Scriptures, some
obscure verse about which the translators disagree, some marginal
note for which there is not much scholarly authority: these are
their favorite meat. They are especially skillful at propounding
notions which have never been a part of the Christian heritage of
truth. Their enthusiasm mounts with the uncertainty of their
position, and their dogmatism grows firmer in proportion to the
mystery which surrounds their subject.  The Next Chapter After the
Last, 12-13.

unfathomable truths contained therein, but deliver me from that
danger of seeking some new insight to enhance my reputation as some
kind of brilliant scholar. Amen."

Lynn called me last night and said she and her boy friend were staying the night and going to see her Dad today so I do believe I wll come back home after church and go see Jerry tomorrow.  That way he will have visitors both days instead of both of us today.  Lynn said they moved Jerry but he is still in the Neuro Critical Care Unit but in an area where people are more progressed...I think there is 4 people in the room.  That can be good or bad.

I am ready for church.  I hope I don't freeze.  I bought an outfit in Florida and crocheted a shawl while in Florida.  That is all I am wearing and it is 37°.  Hmmmm!  Maybe I had better wear a jacket and take it off before going into church.   We are having only two services today at church and no Sunday School.  Our focus will be on Baptisms and Communion

I do pray that every one has a Happy Easter and remember that this day is really the reason for our salvation. 

He Shall Judge the World

"Before the Lord: for He cometh, for He cometh to judge the earth: He shall judge the world with righteousness, and the people with His truth" (Psalm 96:13).

Those men and women who reject or ignore the wonderful offer of salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ need somehow to realize the eternal consequences of their foolishness. Jesus Christ was not just a religious teacher in Israel two thousand years ago, but is the very God who created them, the Second Person of the Tri-une Godhead (Father, Son, Holy Spirit). God the Father "created all things by Jesus Christ" (Ephesians 3:9), and therefore "hath committed all judgment unto the Son" (John 5:22).

And on what basis will He judge us? Our text tells us that "righteousness" and "truth" are the criteria. The problem is that "There is none righteous, no, not one" (Romans 3:10). "He that saith, I know Him, and keepeth not His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him" (I John 2:4). However, the Lord Jesus was incarnate Truth and Righteousness, and God "hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him" (II Corinthians 5:21). Christ has made eternal salvation available freely to us. There is no other way. "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him" (John 3:36).

But how do we know that all this is not just a peculiar doctrine of one particular religion?

Here is how. God "hath appointed a day, in the which He will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom He hath ordained; whereof He hath given assurance unto all men, in that He hath raised Him from the dead" (Acts 17:31). By defeating death itself, Christ has vindicated His claim to be the Judge of all! HMM

Good Morning, I have no plans for today. I don't know what the kids are doing either. I haven't heard from them yet. So I am going to pick up one of the ladies in our prayer group, go to prayer meeting leave 15 minutes before Sunday School and go pick up Gloria.

I will probably just sit at home this afternoon and crochet. This evening the church is showing Passion of the Christ again the public is invited as it has been advertised on the radio.

Chris is that Holy Observer link for real? It just dosn't sound right or even like those people who were quoted.

I agree with you Marilyn!  There is no verification for the "information" in that article ... and none of the people quoted are anywhere near the ones to have said those things.      

Right Jane I do not believe that Franklin Graham, Pat Robertson, James Dobson or any of the others said any of those things, It is just plain not like them to say those kind of things even in jest. They would not jest that way.  Can you imaging Franklin Graham saying that the early settlers believed that God told them to Cheat the Natives, Enslave the Africans and the like? Oh No I do not belive that hocus pocus at all. If any of it were anywhere near true It would have been on the  evening news.

Marilyn and Jane, I agree!  There is NO WAY those people said or did the stuff quoted there.  It has to be made up of "whole cloth" because it sure isn't true!  Whoever published that should be ashamed!

Lovely graphics here today.  I enjoy all of them, can't do 'em, so just admire 'em! 

We had a lovely day.  Diane, Jeff, Curtis, Mark and Abby came up and joined us for Sunday School and church and the dinner afterward.  Curt played his bass for the worship service.  Abby enjoyed the Easter egg hunt, too, which was after the dinner.  God blessed us with a beautiful day, after it being so cold here for a few days.  They came home with us and visited for a while, now they have gone home, as Curtis has to drive back to Manhattan to school today.

Mark took Beth's car home to clean it up and get it ready to drive Saturday night to his prom.  He is buying it, because Beth is no longer able to drive.  He has a Ranchero, but with the kind of gas mileage it gets, it is NOT a good college car!

Hi everyone.  We are having a very rainy and chilly Easter afternoon.  Fortunately after a night of rain it stopped all morning and didn't begin again until probably 2 pm.  We are under a tornardo watch until later this evening and have had lots of rain.  Fortunately, in the area where I live we haven't had too much thunder and lightning.

We had a wonderful church service this morning.  Our church was full for the first time in a long time.  It was so good to sit in the choir and look out at the congregation and see the pews filled.  The minister gave a very fine Easter sermon.  We came home and Pat put a ham in the oven and we had a nice late dinner around 4 pm. 

I have been watching the basketball games this afternoon.  The games yesterday were just super and thrillers right to the end.  The first one today was the same. 

Etta Sue, was glad to hear that Jerry was well enough to be moved up a level of care and that his daughter was there to see him.  I think you made a very fine decision to wait and visit tomorrow rather than have all the company today and then none tomorrow.

Chris, I have to think you were pulling our leg with that piece.  However, you did have some nice links.

Just a "humor' kinda thing.


Hope everyone had/is having a good Easter/Resurrection Day.  Started out sunny and warm adn the temp ahs fallen steadily.  Not a lot going on.  We didn't have services tonight, so it was a good chance to rest some.  We ahve company, so I'd better run for now!

As I mentioned to Chris, the author of all that "Holy Observer" stuff is going to have a chronic facial problem - probably never get the tongue out of the cheek again.

I had surprise company when I was posting last.

Oh, dear.  Now the phone is ringing.

What a beautiful day to celebrate the true meaning of Easter. We met our daughter at the church she is attending and man oh man what a warm greeting you receive. We were even asked to judge the best decorated cakes and the winners would be treated to lunch.

I trust that I will visit with all of you tomorrow.
