Morning Devotional...

[He] brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.
Acts 16:30-31

Here is a man who had come to a point where life was meaningless and not worth living. Yet, he finds himself in the presence of two men who, even though beaten and in prison, still have joy and fulfillment.

He asks them the most important question anyone can ask: "What must I do to be saved?"

How wonderful it is to know that there is an answer to this question.

Jesus Christ can forgive us our sins, give us a new life and a home in heaven for all eternity.

Have you trusted Christ as your Lord and Saviour?
--Crawford Paul

His precious blood was shed for me,
and in that precious blood I see
The righteous ground, the perfect plea,
for my complete acceptance.[/color]

Jesus, Your Blood and Righteousness
(Click to hear music)

Author:  Nicolaus L. von Zinzendorf, 1700-1760
Trans. By John Wesley, 1703-1791
Musician:  William Gardiner's Sacred Melodies, 1815

I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God;
for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation,
he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom
decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

Isaiah 61:10

Jesus, your blood and righteousness
My beauty are, my glorious dress;
Mid flaming worlds, in these arrayed,
With joy shall I lift up my head.

Bold shall I stand in that great day,
Cleansed and redeemed, no debt to pay;
For by your cross absolved I am
From sin and guilt, from fear and shame.

Lord, I believe your precious blood,
Which at the mercy seat of God
Pleads for the captives’ liberty,
Was also shed in love for me.

Lord, I believe, were sinners more
Than sands upon the ocean shore,
You have for all a ransom paid,
For all a full atonement made.

When from the dust of death I rise
To claim my mansion in the skies,
This then shall be my only plea:
Christ Jesus lived and died for me.

Then shall I praise you and adore
Your blessed name forevermore,
Who once, for me and all you made,
An everlasting ransom paid.

Anthony

Good morning and God bless everyone who joins in today.

I enjoyed the devotional this morning and can remember times in my own life when I felt that life wasn't worth living.  It reminds me of the saying, "when we come to the end of our tether, we find God there."

God bless all.

Anthony.
"He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things."
(Romans 8: 32)

Papa John

Pat, thank you for the devotional this morning.  The cases of conversion in the book of Acts make a wonderful study.

Acts 16:30-33
30   And he brought them out and said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"
31   So they said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household."
32   Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house.
33   And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized.  (NKJ)

Anthony, it is so good to see you this morning.  I hope you are getting along well.

Today we are going to a meeting of The Golden Circle of Lipscomb University.  Members are made up of those alumni who graduated over fifty years ago.  A new class is initiated each year.  After a fellowship period we will have a luncheon when the new class is initiated.  It is always fun to see people you haven't seen in a long time.

Papa John          <;D)))><<
Eph 2:8-9  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can boast.(NIV)

Marilyn

Good Morning everyone.

Anthony it is so good to see you here again, I hope you will come back often and add your input . We have missed you.

Ruth I will get to the before and after photos today and get them posted.

When Patty and I got back from the Mary Kay training session we annointed and prayed over my house and she laid hands on me and prayed for me. I slept so much better last night than I have since I moved into this house. I feel better today too.

Patty is the leader of our prayer team at church. And  one of the first people I met when I came to Abundant Life Center. Her daughter is the one who takes care of my dogs when I have to go  some place for longer than a few hours.

I am so thankful for good friends like those here and my church family. I had a long talk with my Pastor yesterday too.

Isn't it amazing how God works in our lives!  On a Saturday night several weeks ago, this pastor was working late, and decided to call his wife before he left for home.  It was about 10:00 PM, but his wife didn't answer the phone.

The pastor let the phone ring many times.  He thought it was odd that she didn't answer, but decided to wrap up a few things and try again in a few minutes.  When he tried again she answered right away.  He asked her why she hadn't answered before, and she said that it hadn't rung at their house. They brushed it off as a fluke and went on their merry ways.

The following Monday, the pastor received a call at the church office, which was the phone that he'd used that Saturday night.  The man that he spoke with wanted to know why he'd called on Saturday night.

The pastor couldn't figure out what the man was talking about.  Then the man said, "It rang and rang, but I didn't answer." The pastor remembered the mishap and apologized for disturbing him, explaining that he'd intended to call his wife

The man said, "That's, OK.  Let me tell you my story.

You see, I was planning to commit suicide on Saturday night, but before I did, I prayed, 'God if you're there, and you don't want me to do this, give me a sign now.' At that point my phone started to ring.  I looked at the caller ID, and it said, 'Almighty God'.  I was afraid to answer!"

The reason why it showed on the man's caller ID that the call came from "Almighty God" is because the church that the pastor attends is called Almighty God Tabernacle!!

Off soon as Don has a blood draw.  Then, he wants to have something for breakfast & I need to get groceries.

Larry:  I tried to send you an email yesterday & it was returned so I will have to check if you have a new address.  I see, sorry if I overstepped in telling you what you ought to do.  We have more than a few family members who are perfectly content with living quiet lives and don't seem to need the companionship that I always crave, so, I do understand your daughter.  As for funds, it is a shame of America that we do not take good care of our health problems - and I mean the real health concerns that people have.

Papa John:  Hope you enjoyed the Golden Circle group today!

Marilyn;  Now, I didn't sleep well last night.....it just seems to come and go.  Glad that you had a good sleep.

Hi everyone.

First of all, Carol I certainly didn't feel you had overstepped anything and I appreciated your comments.  Right now my daughter is able to get medicaid because she is going to school.  We have to pay a co-pay for her doctor appointments and medicine but not the full costs.  I don't know what happens when she gets out of school as the medicaid may stop and it seem to be almost impossible to get SS disability in this State.  I am afraid she will have to go to the emergency room at the county hospital.  However, we will cross that bridge when it comes.

Marilyn, I liked the stories you shared today and I am glad to see you are feeling better.  It helps to have someone to talk to who is not closely related and will keep your confidences.

Anthony, it was nice to see your posting this morning and hope you won't be a stranger.

Papa John, I hope you have a great time at your Golden Circle get-together.  It can be a shock to see people you haven't seen in a long time as we have a tendency to remember them as we last saw them.  I actually have thought that about myself when seeing myself in a video and asked someone who that old man was in the choir and it was me.  Quite a shock.

Pat, great devotioinal today.  I had found this "funny" I wanted to share today and I think it really fits with your devotional thought.

One day, Jesus and Satan decided to settle which one of them was the best programmer. God was chosen to be the judge. Jesus and Satan got 10 hours to create the best program they could for the PC.

Near the end of the 10 hours, the power suddenly went out. All the data disappeared from both monitors. Moments later, the power came back on. On Jesus's monitor, all the data had returned to its previous state, whereas Satan's monitor remained blank.

Satan complained bitterly to God.

God laughed and said, "Jesus saves!"

Ruth, I had to chuckle at your comment about your neighbor planning your retirement.  I think that is something you should do for yourself.

JudyB, it sounds like it won't be long before winter arrives in your area.  Our trees haven't even changed color down here yet although we definitely see the beginning of fall.  We are suppose to get down to 48 degrees either tonight or tomorrow night but then back up into the 80s next week.

Janet, anxious to hear your report from your talk last night.  I am sure you and Darrel did a bang-up job and that your pictures were great.

Kathy, good to see you posting.

I have a busy day today as have a SeniorNet Learning Center volunteer's meeting this morning and then at 1 pm we have our monthly PC User's Group meeting. We have a lady from our county library system speaking about the services available from the library and will be talking about the digital book service they have instituted where we can download current books onto our computer and have access to them for 3 weeks. One of the services will even allow a renewal. The only bad problem is that it stays checked out to you for the entire three weeks even if you have finished it.

If any of you have friends or family located throughout the world that have computers there is a wonderful service called Skype that provides free computer to computer telephone service.  You might want to check it out.  If your have a webcam, there is another good site I just learned of this week called Netvidea that provides a good source for video only and they provide a free account and servicce.  Two friends and I had a video conference a couple of night ago using these two programs as you can also conference using the Skype program.

Guess I had better end this "book" as it is about time to leave for the Senior Center and my meetings.

Marilyn

Larry I have copied your funny and sent it to my Pastor. He got some kind of bug in his computer and had to  wipe it out and start all over he has been workingon it for 2 days. So I know he will enjoy what you wrote this monring.

I just posted this in New Tribes Mission but I am pasting it here so it will not be missed.

Update October 2005

This is from the newspaper buried in the back....

Venezuela is evicting the New Tribes Mission
The vice pres of Venezuela Rangel and the pres Chavez have announced the order to the group of missionaries to leave calling them CIA "imperiealist infiltration".    The spokesperson for NTM in Sanford, Florida has denied any CIA links.

There are now about 160 personnel in Venezuela and that includes 30 who are Venezuelans.  They have been accused  of building "Luxurious" camps next to impoverished Indian villages as they fly in and out on private planes.

The groups says that recent comments by religious broadcaster, Pat Robertson calling for Chavez's assination prompted government investigations into their work.  They also issued a statement condemning Robertson's remarks, for which he later apologized.

My take on this is that it really sad when any religious leader throws power around and speaks such unchristian words.  I have know this group for years and my parents supported them when it was a young group.  Nothing in their lives has been luxurious - the living conditions have been grim, to say the least.

It was so nice to hear from everyone today:

Papa John thank you for your scripture quote and I do trust that you had a blessed day today with old friends (or should I say, 'friends that you have known for a long time  ;))

Marilyn I am so sorry that you have had trouble with sleeping, but it is good that you have praying friends.  I also pray that you will continue to have good sleep. I know what it is not to be able to sleep and can feel with you in that.

Carol I trust you had a good day today.

Pat thanks for the welcome home graphic.  It does feel a bit like coming home. Guess what - I got to walk up Snowdon last month.  It got late and we only managed half way up, but it was a great day out.  Did you ever manage to get to the top? (BTW, I take one sugar and decaffienated please about 3.00pm in the afternoon  :D)

Larry it's good to read your post today.  It sounds like a lot of worry over the medical bills - I am sorry for that, but we have got a promise relating being more value than the grass in the  fields etc.  It's good to see you have a good sense of humour and I enjoyed the joke.

Pam I don't think we've met before, but I am sure someone will introduce us.  It's good to meet you.

Etta Sue great graphics - you are doing marvelously with them.

Carol it is difficult to hear about the difficulties that some of our brethren are facing in other countries.  When we think of what some people go through and have gone through in the past to bring the gospel to people it is truly amazing.  God is building His church and that is for sure - that's why the devil stirs these wicked people up. Jesus is stronger than satan and sin - amen.

God bless all.

Anthony.

p.s. where's Janet  :clobber: I'm just in the mood for her.

I agree - Anthony, it's good to hear from you again. May God be with you.

Today was the day God wanted me to relax and enjoy his creation. Here's my story.

I decided to take 1/2 day off to drive to the next county to get a certified copy of my marriage certificate which is required to get my social security pension on my deceased husband's name.

1. My boss called - twice, and it kept me from starting my time away from the office by more than an hour.

2. I went to the hairdresser for a trim - she wasn't coming in until 3 pm.

3. Next I went to pay a bill and then drove back to the hairdresser. At 3:15, she still had not arrived.

4. So, I left for the excursion to the county seat. It was a beautiful drive - the hills are barely showing promise of the beauty that will come in a while when the colors change. The sun was shining and I put on my favorite religious music station and drove contemplating the beauty before me.

5. I arrived at 5 minutes past 4 o'clock. Well, that was 6 minutes too late! Our county offices close at 4:30, but theirs closes at 4 pm.

6. I had phoned my close friend who lives in that county and she was sick and could not meet me for dinner.

7. So, I drove back to Nashville, again praising God for the beauties of this part of the country.

8. Then, I stopped at my favorite little grocery store to pick up some bargains. And, the one electric scooter was dead as could be. So, my trusty crutches brought me back to the truck.

Through all this frustration, my mood never dimmed, praise the Lord! I truly believe he wanted me to have that quiet time with him in the midst of a beautiful drive.

Y'all have a good evening.

Ruth Ann
...his compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Hello everyone.

Marilyn, I'm sure you've heard of "Post'Partum Depression"...I think maybe you've got a case of "Post-Moving Depression"...    On a serious note, I'm glad that you got a good night's rest and are feeling better about the world!

Mom, it was a joy to see the photos that you posted all by yourself!  Told you that you could do it!

RuthAnn, I'm sorry to hear that you were unable to accomplish what YOU wanted to today, but am happy that you have remained up-beat about all the snags that were put into your program and allowed you to enjoy your day anyway!

Papa John, how was your meeting?  Enjoyable I trust?

Janet, how was your lecture received?  I am envious....I wasn't able to make to hear it!   :'(

Pat, that is one of my favourite songs, and I am often singing/humming it to myself.

Today was a long day at work.  The store was quiet and in my opinion perhaps even overstaffed.  I was expecting to be sent home as I was the first one in, and that did not happen so am thankful as the shortened hours would not have been nice.  It did make for a long day however as there is only so much that can be cleaned and tidiied when you have few customers to make things dirty.

Now, to go and watch the Gaither's and then an early night as I must be at work 5 am Saturday.

Pat

Glad you liked that, Sue.  It reminded me of Ruth Ann's day!

Your mum did a great job with the photos posting them in her own gallery!

Fifty Dollars

MORRIS AND HIS WIFE ESTHER
WENT TO THE STATE FAIR EVERY YEAR.

EVERY YEAR, MORRIS WOULD SAY,
"ESTHER, I'D LIKE TO RIDE IN THAT
HELICOPTER."

ESTHER ALWAYS REPLIED, " I KNOW MORRIS,
BUT THAT HELICOPTER RIDE IS 50 DOLLARS
AND 50 DOLLARS IS 50 DOLLARS."

A FEW YEARS LATER, ESTHER AND MORRIS
WENT TO THE FAIR.

MORRIS SAID, "ESTHER, I'M 85 YEARS OLD.
IF I DON'T RIDE THAT
HELICOPTER NOW,
I MIGHT NEVER GET ANOTHER CHANCE."

ESTHER REPLIED, "MORRIS, THAT HELICOPTER RIDE IS
50 DOLLARS AND
50 DOLLARS IS 50 DOLLARS."

THE PILOT OVERHEARD THE COUPLE.
HE SAID, "FOLKS, I'LL MAKE YOU A DEAL.
I'LL TAKE THE BOTH OF YOU FOR A RIDE.
IF YOU CAN STAY QUIET FOR THE ENTIRE
RIDE AND NOT SAY A WORD,
I WON'T CHARGE YOU!
BUT IF YOU SAY ONE WORD,
IT'S 50 DOLLARS."

MORRIS AND ESTHER AGREED -- AND UP THEY WENT.

THE PILOT DID ALL KINDS OF FANCY MANEUVERS.

BUT NOT A WORD WAS HEARD.

HE DID HIS DAREDEVIL TRICKS OVER AND OVER AGAIN,
BUT STILL NOT A WORD.

WHEN THEY LANDED, THE PILOT TURNED TO MORRIS.
HE SAID, "BY GOLLY, I DID
EVERYTHING I COULD TO GET YOU TO YELL OUT,
BUT YOU DIDN'T.
I'M IMPRESSED!"

MORRIS REPLIED,
"WELL, I WAS GOING TO SAY SOMETHING
WHEN ESTHER FELL OUT,

BUT 50 DOLLARS IS 50 DOLLARS!"
