JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Morning Devotional...

For I came down from heaven, not to do Mine own will, but the will of Him that sent Me.
John 6:38

Forty-eight years ago today, the Russians sent the first dog, Laika, into outer space. Except for dog lovers, the world watched in amazement as the little canine was launched into the heavens.

It was over 2000 years ago that history's greatest miracle went largely unnoticed. God Himself came to earth.

Passing through the billions of galaxies which He created, the Lord Jesus arrived on this tiny planet.

Why? "Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners" (1 Tim. 1:15). He came so far and gave up so much to save your precious soul.

Have you taken Christ as your Saviour yet?
—Brian Cretney

Why would He come from Heav'n above,
down to this world of sin?
He came because the God of love,
wants you to be with Him!

Good Morning Everyone!

I slept in today so now I have to hurry and get busy!

I'll drop in later.

Speaking of sleep, here's a bit of trivia...

Do you grab a snooze?

More than a third of all adults hit their alarm clock's "snooze" button each morning an average of three times before they get up. Those most guilty of snatching some extra sleep are those in the 25-34 age bracket, at 57 percent.

Thanks, Pat, for the good thought this morning.

I am having trouble with my computer right now.  I think I downloaded something which wasn't  good.  I am going to work on it today and hopefully will get it straightened out.

When Morning Gilds the Skies
(Click to hear music)

May the Name of the Lord be praised.
Job 1:21

Words: translated from German to English by Edward Caswall
Music: Laudes Domini, Joseph Barnby, in Hymns Ancient and Modern (London: 1868)

When morning gilds the skies my heart awaking cries:
May Jesus Christ be praised!
Alike at work and prayer, to Jesus I repair:
May Jesus Christ be praised!

When you begin the day, O never fail to say,
May Jesus Christ be praised!
And at your work rejoice, to sing with heart and voice,
May Jesus Christ be praised!

Whene'er the sweet church bell peals over hill and dell,
May Jesus Christ be praised!
O hark to what it sings, as joyously it rings,
May Jesus Christ be praised!

My tongue shall never tire of chanting with the choir,
May Jesus Christ be praised!
This song of sacred joy, it never seems to cloy,
May Jesus Christ be praised!

Does sadness fill my mind? A solace here I find,
May Jesus Christ be praised!
Or fades my earthly bliss? My comfort still is this,
May Jesus Christ be praised!

To God, the Word, on high, the host of angels cry,
May Jesus Christ be praised!
Let mortals, too, upraise their voice in hymns of praise,
May Jesus Christ be praised!

Be this at meals your grace, in every time and place;
May Jesus Christ be praised!
Be this, when day is past, of all your thoughts the last
May Jesus Christ be praised!

When mirth for music longs, this is my song of songs:
May Jesus Christ be praised!
When evening shadows fall, this rings my curfew call,
May Jesus Christ be praised!

When sleep her balm denies, my silent spirit sighs,
May Jesus Christ be praised!
When evil thoughts molest, with this I shield my breast,
May Jesus Christ be praised!

The night becomes as day when from the heart we say:
May Jesus Christ be praised!
The powers of darkness fear when this sweet chant they hear:
May Jesus Christ be praised!

No lovelier antiphon in all high heav?n is known
Than, Jesus Christ be praised!
There to the eternal Word the eternal psalm is heard:
May Jesus Christ be praised!

Let all the earth around ring joyous with the sound:
May Jesus Christ be praised!
In heaven?s eternal bliss the loveliest strain is this:
May Jesus Christ be praised!

Sing, suns and stars of space, sing, ye that see His face,
Sing, Jesus Christ be praised!
God?s whole creation o?er, for aye and evermore
Shall Jesus Christ be praised!

In heaven's eternal bliss the loveliest strain is this,
May Jesus Christ be praised!
Let earth, and sea and sky from depth to height reply,
May Jesus Christ be praised!

Be this, while life is mine, my canticle divine:
May Jesus Christ be praised!
Sing this eternal song through all the ages long:
May Jesus Christ be praised!

May Jesus Christ be praised!  It's very, very good to remember that in all circumstances!  Thank you for that, Pat.  May He be praised all day long.

I'm still singing it Al.  I love that hymn and I especially like to see all the verses that we normally don't sing in our church services.

By the way, Pete's Pond Watchers, I just saw 17 elephants!

It's been a great encouragement to read the devotional and through the posts today.

It is good to remember that we can praise God in all circumstances because He is a part of every circumstance that the Christian finds him/herself in.

God bless all and see y'all later.

Anthony.

Trying once again to be a part of this group.
I find it very difficult, because I am so busy.
To stop and read a bunch of stuff is difficult.
I pray you all have a fabulous day and that God surprizes
you all with His goodness and love !

Thank you, Janice, for your post from Elaine.  A lot better than what the media let's us know about NO and LA.

Hi Marilyn!

Etta Sue, I have to arrange to get my flu shot soon.

Hi everyone.  I was so busy yesterday all day and exhausted last evening that I didn't get here to post.  Today I really feel it and am very tired.  As soon as I finish writing here I am going to take a nap.  Our son is here and is finishing the pressure washing of the house and walks.  Things look very nice.  It is still very nice weather here.

Marilyn, I do have Opera on my computer (they have now made it available free of charge and no ads on the page).  However, mostly I use a browser called Maxthon that is based on MS IE but has tabbed browsing.  I understand that MS IE will have tabbed browsing in the new version they are currently preparing.

Etta Sue, your chili was just perfect and had the right amount of seasoning.

Janice, nice to see you posting again.  It sounds like your daughter had quite an experience.  A team is going from our church next Wednesday to work for 3 days in lower Mississippi.  My wife, and her quilting group, have made 7 quilts to send with them that they can give to someone in need down there.

Ruth Ann, glad you had good news from the doctor.

Jane, so sorry to hear of the loss of your friend.

Janet, is Beth staying in a rehab facility?  I knew she had started rehab but thought she was staying at home and going to the rehab daily.

Well, I feel the nap coming on.  Sorry I haven't commented to each person posting but will have to do that another time.

Janet

Hello!

Yes, Larry, Beth is staying in the rehab facility.  She is not allowed to leave until her doctor dismisses her.  So if that is not by the 16th, he will give her a pass to go to the doctors in Amarillo, then she will have to go back until released.  I just hope she makes significant improvement.

I had another good (heavy!) workout today, then went to visit Mom, and the elderly couple I was helping a while back.  So I pretty much used up my morning that way.  Now I need to get busy and see if I can accomplish some things here.

I am taking Pat and Diane and Abby with me to Guymon, Oklahoma tomorrow to go to a huge craft show called the Pumpkin Patch.  While there, I am going to look for a new couch.  I've been wanting one for a long time now, maybe I will find one I like.

Anthony, good to see you!  How is your Mother?

Marilyn, watch out for all those good dinners!  With those plus the coming holidays, you might expand your temple!  ;)  Just kidding, of course.

Don is having coffee with a friend and he told me to do all the online banking and such by myself - I think I have it down.  It seems to take me longer to learn something new though.   :o  We have been diligent about getting to the nearby fitness center and it does feel good but talk about tired every afternoon.

Janice:  Sending your Earl a hug - my Don had a silent heart attack this springtime and it is family history as well.  And your daughter, Elaine, how wonderful that she and her group went to serve the people in that critical area.  So many are helping - so many churches are involved.

Jane:  What a shock for your good friend and it must have brought back sad memories for you as well.

Janet:  So many people do so much more..... I am trying to build my strength at the gym as well & it is going slowly.  It sure is great that there is a good rehab place for Beth to regain her strength.

Etta Sue:  I don't know - kitty cats are too closely related to cougars!!!

Larry:  You are doing too much.  Some days are just too filled for us & you as well.  Take care and take that nap.

Marilyn:  There are too many calories eating out so often - at least we fight the batttle of the bulge when we have company and/or eat out too much.

Anthony:  How is everything?  You must be asleep rilght now, so, good morning to you on Saturday!

I am cleaning out a closet and giving away extra gloves and so forth.

Just over in the glory land
(Click to hear music)

I've a home prepared where the saints abide
Just over in the glory land
And I long to be by my Saviour's side
Just over in the glory land

Just over in the glory land
I'll join the happy angel band
Just over in the glory land
Just over in the glory land
There with the mighty host I'll stand
Just over in the glory land

I am on my way to those mansions fair
Just over in the glory land
There to sing God's praises and his glory share
Just over in the glory land

Refrain

What a joyful thought that my Lord I'll see
Just over in the glory land
And with kindred saved, there forever be
Just over in the glory land

Refrain

With the blood washed throng I will shout and sing
Just over in the glory land
Glad hosannas to Christ, the Lord and King
Just over in the glory land

Hello all!

This has been a pretty good, though busy week.  I am so sorry for not being in here more.  I've read, I think, most of the posts for everyday, though, so ya'll have been near my heart!

I was wanting to get on here last night, and couldn't connect at all.  Everythign is fine today, so, literally, the Lord only knows . . .

Not a lot of news around the Shuford household.  Travis is busy picking things out of the wishbook for Christmas and his birthday.  Kristi is napping, and is trying to crawl.  I put her in the floor to let her "practice" and she has figured out two things.  One, she can roll and get whereever she needs/wants to go (usually aims for Travis's bedroom), two, if she pushes up on her arms, she can slide backwards on the hardwood floor.  It is very funny to watch.

Etta Sue -- That cat looks threatening!!!  What's scary is that I've met pets who have exactly that attitude.  :)

Take care all, and I'll try to be back mroe!

karmat

PS -- The leaves have finally changed here, so maybe in the next day or two, I can get some fall shots!

Thanks, Janet, Larry and Carol ..  :)   I called my friend this morning (the mother).  She had written the note I received in yesterday's mail because she'd gotten a disconnect message when she tried to call me.   :(

Ed had cancer but he had been doing "amazingly" according to the doctors.  He just had a bone marrow transplant and was doing really well.  In fact, he was scheduled to go home.  He got up in the night to go to the bathroom and fell over the cords and it jerked the catheter out of his neck and he lay on the floor and bled to death.  :'(

His wife is a nurse and had been staying night and day with him at the hospital but, since he was coming home, she had left that day to get the house ready and to buy groceries, etc.  She is feeling guilty because she left him.

"He was ready to go home" his mother said, "this is so senseless."  Well ... He DID go home -- his Heavenly Home.  It is merciful that his wife wasn't there and can remember their last time together as full of hope and that he was doing so well.

Now starts the long process of grieving and healing and continuing the journey alone.  I think most of us can understand this.

It is raining here again, too, AL ... I love it!  Pretty windy as well, but I'm inside and have a fire going so ... I can just watch the storm through the windows.   :)

I probably need to be doing something else about now so ... I'll see what I can find to do.   ;)   I'll see y'all later ....
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Anthony

QuoteAnthony:  How is everything?  You must be asleep rilght now, so, good morning to you on Saturday!

Carol, I'm just off to bed now.  Thanks everyone for asking how things are and thanks for the prayers Marilyn and everyone else.  My mother is happy to be out of hospital and back home and doing quite well really.  She lost some weight while in hospital so I am over to the recipes section to see if I can find something tasty   Seriously though, does anyone know how to make yoghurt?  I would like to make soya yoghurt, but don't know if I can do it at home.  I'll put the request in the relevant section.

So I can't reply to everyone, but thinking of you all.  See you tomorrow.

Anthony.

Whew! I'm tired, too, Larry. It was a long day at work and I'm ready to head for the bed, I think.

Each day, I go back and read the posts from the last time I was able to come. It's good to see awakened heart, and our other new posters, as well as those who come on a regular basis. Yes, janice, I'm thankful you came back, too.

Must go - I guess I have a couple of miles to go before I sleep--namely fix dinner, eat it, go to SeniorNet a moment, and then bedtime. Pat, thanks for the songs. They really lift my spirits.

Ruth Ann

Like Karma, I've had a really busy day.  Our pastor's mother in law and sister in law just moved to town; and today his parents are to arrive.  So I have been cooking some stuff to help them out----3 chickens, fried, and cupcakes (because my cake pans have all mysteriously disappeared.)  I also made myself some oat bran muffins.

My grandson Mark called this afternoon to tell me he aced his FAA private pilot's test today!!!  GO MARK!!  I'm so proud of him!  ;D

Tomorrow we are going to that craft show; then Darrel and Jeff are meeting us to take us to dinner and a movie!  Abby wants to see Chicken Little, ha ha.  Anyway it will be so fun to have a day out and a nice evening out, too.

I'm watching 60 minutes, a show about internet predators.  It is a vey widespread problem.  >:( :(

Larry, I missed you yesterday, and hope you are feeling much stronger in the morning.

Hi Papa John!  Hope that computer gets well quick!  ;)

Hey there, Anthony.  I hope you and your Mom are both feeling great.  I don't know how to make soy yoghurt, sorry.

Hi, Ruth Ann!  Please don't work so hard, you need to take care of yourself.  (((hugs)))

Carol, it sounds as if you and Don stay plenty busy.  Sort of like us, I think!

We have people waiting to move into Darrel's trailer (pastor's mother in law and sister) so now we have to put the push on getting it repaired and cleaned and ready.  Always something! ???  But that's a good thing, I guess.  It has set empty for over three years now, because the last renters really trashed it, and we just didn't have the heart to get it fixed up again.  Sigh.  But I do believe these two ladies will be great renters, and that they will stay for a long time.

Gotta run!

Anthony, I used to make yogurt all the time.  I have a couple of yogurt makers which really are only pieces of equipment that keeps the milk at an even temperature.  they really are inexpensive to purchase.

Then you heat your milk to just under boiling (Not boiling) and let it cool so that it's body temperature and mix in about 2 or 3 tablespoons of yogurt that hasn't been pasteurized...just raw yogurt that is still "alive" with the acidophilus bacteria still "living".  Over here the brand I'd buy is Astro plain.

Mix in and leave in your yogurt maker for about 10 hours.  Then put that in the fridge to cool.  Sometimes if I wanted to have my yogurt thicker, I'd put some Knox's geletine in it.

Lily of the Valley
(Click to hear music)

I am a rose of Sharon, a lily of the valleys.
Song of Solomon 2:1

Words: Charles W. Fry, 1881; first appeared in the Salvation Army's The War Cry, December 29, 1881.
Fry wrote the lyrics in Lincoln, England, while working with the Salvation Army there.

Music: William S. Hays; adapted by Charles W. Fry

I have found a friend in Jesus, He's everything to me,
He's the fairest of ten thousand to my soul;
The Lily of the Valley, in Him alone I see
All I need to cleanse and make me fully whole.
In sorrow He's my comfort, in trouble He's my stay;
He tells me every care on Him to roll.

Refrain
He's the Lily of the Valley,
the Bright and Morning Star,
He's  the fairest of ten thousand to my soul.

He all my grief has taken, and all my sorrows borne;
In temptation He's my strong and mighty tower;
I have all for Him forsaken, and all my idols torn
From my heart and now He keeps me by His power.
Though all the world forsake me, and Satan tempt me sore,
Through Jesus I shall safely reach the goal.

Refrain

He will never, never leave me, nor yet forsake me here,
While I live by faith and do His blessed will;
A wall of fire about me, I've nothing now to fear,
From His manna He my hungry soul shall fill.
Then sweeping up to glory to see His blessed face,
Where the rivers of delight shall ever roll.

Refrain
