JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Morning Devotional...

Jesus Gives the Beatitudes
Matthew 5:1-16  NLT

1One day as the crowds were gathering, Jesus went up the mountainside with his disciples and sat down to teach them.

2This is what he taught them:

3 "God blesses those who realize their need for him,
for the Kingdom of Heaven is given to them.

4 God blesses those who mourn,
       for they will be comforted.

5 God blesses those who are gentle and lowly,
for the whole earth will belong to them.

6 God blesses those who are hungry and thirsty for justice,
for they will receive it in full.

7 God blesses those who are merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.

8 God blesses those whose hearts are pure,
       for they will see God.

9 God blesses those who work for peace,
for they will be called the children of God.

10 God blesses those who are persecuted because they live for
God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.

11"God blesses you when you are mocked and persecuted and lied about because you are my followers. 12Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, the ancient prophets were persecuted, too.

13"You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it useful again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. 14You are the light of the world--like a city on a mountain, glowing in the night for all to see. 15Don't hide your light under a basket! Instead, put it on a stand and let it shine for all. 16In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

Which of the Beatitudes can you claim?

Jesus began his sermon with words that seem to contradict each other.  But God's way of living usually contradicts the world's.

If you want to live for God, you must be ready to say and do what seems strange to the world.  You must be willing to give when others take, to love when others hate, to help when others abuse.

In doing this, you will one day receive everything, while the others will end up with nothing.

Thank God, the weather is better now than this morning.  I feel better about all the loved ones traveling to be with their families on Thanksgiving.

And yes, Pat, I have noticed the photos at the top of the pages.  I have seen my sunset many times.....but failed to comment.   :idiot: I like that touch!

I thank God for a lesser pain day today.  The pain has hardly been noticable.  Thank you, God!

Good morning to all of you, and Happy Thanksgiving.  We all indeed have a lot to be thankful for.

I could write a really long list but it would just bore everyone.  Suffice to say God IS good!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING
TO ALL!!

Thanks, PAT for the Thanksgiving ecard.   <3

I also want to assure that I have been noticing the changing photos at the top of the page and have clicked on most of them and commented on some of them   ;)

MARILYN~I have spent many holidays alone.  I understand.  It just so happens that my next door neighbors have invited me to have dinner with them.  They said they know I don't have any family nearby and neither do they so asked me to come on over.  Otherwise I would have been alone again this year.

I am most thankful for Christian friends ... This morning (Wednesday) a friend sent her husband to my house with a load of wood in his pickup.  It has been really cold here -- only 60º in the house -- and my supply of wood is limited, so I have tried to be conservative and not light a fire until evening.  Well, Rose heard of this and sent me some wood so I am warm once again!  I have had a great fire in the stove all day.  Don said he'd be around with more soon.

Well, I gotta go .....
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of our Friends in The United States.

Here in Ontario we have our first winter storm of the season, along with that arrives particular care to safe driving.  As I head out to work I will be putting on my winter boots, heavier coat - hat & mitts.

Good Morning. This is A day to be Thankful for all that the Lord has given to me and I am so Thankful to be alive for such a time as this.

I did not sleep much last night   :-\ and I finally got out of bed at 4:15, Spent some time in prayer and reading my Bible. Yesterday at the Doctor's she gave me a handout of suggestions and the do's and dont's recommendations of what to do  when finding yourself in a sleepless state.  It also has some Alternative suggestions like using Lavender oil or Meadowsweet oil,  in a bath or to rub on the bottoms of your feet, also taking Passionflower tincture in water as a tea.

I had such a terrible pain in my neck that I was up twice to rub on some muscle rub and take a pain pill. So as a result of that pain I realize that I need to use my traction this morning.

My plans for the day as follows. bake a cake and clean my house,. Last night I put a few soft rollers in my hair just is case I get called to go someplace. I think maybe  the family is just assuming I know where I am supposed to go. I called Sarah's parents last week and John was supposed to ask Ann what we were doing and  :yakyakyak: me back, he didn't call. Gilbert was also supposed to  :yakyakyak: me back and let me know. Sometimes I think that kid forgets things more than  I do.  <3

Hello, again, all.  Jane, I sure am glad someone brought you some wood.  I don't think I could handle a 60 degree house for long!  I hope you have a good warm day.

Marilyn, I hope the traction helps, and I hope you get the schedule straight with your family :)

Happy Thanksgiving again to all of you.  God is so good.

 Pat - thank you for the photos at the top - they probably do more than anything else to get me to look at what's in the gallery and comment on it.

We're going to be at our pseudo - kids/grandkids house today, and that's enough to be thankful for all by itself.  But oh, all the other gracious blessings of God!

Marilyn, I hope your kids call you.  I don't think, though, that it would be amiss for you to call and say, "Was anyone supposed to call me about going to their house today?"

I talked to one of our daughters-in law up in Olympia, Wash. yesterday, so I'm thankful for that.  Also, our oldest daughter called from Kansas City, MO last night.  She may be married again soon, and, if so, she will move to St. John's Island in the Caribean!  Hope she'll get rich and send us tickets to fly there!  I would also pray they don't get any "tropical storms."

Jane - I'm so glad you got wood - with the promise of even more!  Bless the Lord, Oh my soul!

Hi everyone and Happy Thanksgiving to those celebrating today.  I just helped Pat stuff the turkey (actually I just held it so she could put the stuffing inside.  This is going to be a very scrumpous meal.  I went to the Waffle House this morning for coffee with three of my friends.  One of the friends bought us all breakfast.  It was so noisy in the Waffle House this morning that we could hardly hear to talk.  For some reason the workers were slamming the dishes together.  We still had a good time.

Our son and DIL are coming over around 2 pm.  Unfortunately she is isn't feeling at all good so expect their stay will not be very long after we eat.

Marilyn, I don't think I would be as shy as you have been in finding out if you are expected.  While someone should have called you I would call either your son or his in-laws and ask as you need to know in terms of making other plans.  Since they had commited to letting you know you are just following up.  (I see Al has had the same idea as I on your calling.)

Sorry to read that JudyB's computer is not behaving.  Hope it is nothing serious.  Glad that wasn't a house fire.

Jane, it is nice that you have an extended family to enjoy the holiday with today.

Pat, thanks for the Thanksgiving well wishes and Etta Sue, thanks for the devotional.  I agree with Pat that your graphic is very appropriate and pretty.

Papa John

Good morning.  I think I have missed the last day or two.  We have a beautiful day here with sunshine and the temperature in the low 50's.

I hope everyone has a happy Thanksgiving.  Remember it is a day of giving thanks.  We have so much to be thankful for, all our material blessings and especially our spiritual blessings.

Ezra 3:11  With praise and thanksgiving they sang to the LORD: "He is good; his love to Israel endures forever." And all the people gave a great shout of praise to the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid.  (NIV)

2 Cor 4:15  All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.  (NIV)

Papa John
Eph 2:8-9  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can boast.(NIV)

Thanks Pat, for the turkey.  It's interesting to see what it's made of, too.

Good morning everyone, and Happy Thanksgiving.

Jane, you wouldn't have had to be alone even if your neighbors didn't invite you over.  Remember, I told you Kim invited both of us.   At the last minute, after they decided they were staying home, haha, but you were still invited.

I'm sorry that some are hurting.  Blessedly, I slept last night.  I woke up a lot, but was able to get right back to sleep.  Actually, my humidifier came, for my C-Pap machine, and I was looking forward to not having such a dry nose and mouth, but I don't see that it changed anything.  I couldn't even tell it was humidified.  I'll have to check it out further and see what's going on. I need to breathe...and I need moisture. haha

I pray you are all blessed today, blessed with a new awareness of God's constant love and watching over us.

Nita

Hello Folks!

Here it is 2:30'ish and I've just finished the minutes for the Guelph Hiking Trail Club's Annual Meeting tonight.  At one point this morning, I set out to pick something up for my friend in the next town (Kitchener) and the snow was blowing to violently, that I turned around and came home.  I wasn't going to chance it.

I'm so happy that you are enjoying the photos at the top of the page.  I'll try to keep them rotated.  I also hope that many of you will get some of your own into the Gallery soon.  It's such nice software.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all who live "south of the border" and I'll be back later on this evening after the meeting.

There are four birds on the bird feeder  hanging  just out side the window here at the side of my house I can look to my left and watch them. I brought in th Hummingbird feeder for the winter, it is getting too cold for them out there.

I have made my cake and cleaned the house, laid down for a short while hoping to get some rest.  Now I have brushed my teeth, applied my make up and combed my hair and put on a nice sweater, just in case I get that call. Maybe Iam being stubborn by not calling them and reminding them that I  have no place to go for Thanksgiving but that is not my style. I will just sit and wait.

Quote from: Larry Hanna on November 24, 2005, 10:18:58 AMHappy Thanksgiving to those celebrating today.

This is one day of the year that I remember where we came from and how little we had.  Our first Thanksgiving as a married couple in 1960 was spent far from our family and friends.  We were in Ft Ord California and our folks were back here in Michigan.  Donna was pregnant with our first child.

Payday was still a couple of days away.  And turkey was one thing we were NOT having.  As usual the last days of any month were spent living on what we had "leftover."  What we had leftover was a little hamburger and a couple of potato's.  Donna cooked one of her specials...chili over potato's.

We were sad because we knew of the feast that our families were sitting down to.  We were lonely because they were so far away.  (It would be 2.5 yrs before I got back to Mi)

We may have eaten chili and potato's, but we ate.  So we paused today and give thanks to Him who provides for all of our needs and even some wants and has done so all of our lives.

Praise be to God !!!

I watched the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade -- or most of it -- this morning then I got a call from my daughter in Spokane.  We had a really nice telephone visit.  [Although she told me that the money I'd enclosed in a birthday card for my granddaughter was stolen out of the card before it even reached their mailbox]  :ticked: That made me feel really upset but I guess that's what happens in the post office these days.  It is hard for kids to cash checks so that's why I've just given them cash.  Guess I can't do that any more,   >:(

Anyway ... Just as I was ending the call from Dot, I heard a thumping on the back porch.  I went out and there was my friend, Nora, unloading some more wood from her truck!  She said "I'll try to get back with more soon."  God is really taking care of me!  And warming me with His love --- through the kindness of His children!    0:-)

Nita~I was in Spokane for Thanksgiving last year but on my own for Christmas ... I know you told me Kim had invited us to her place this year, but my neighbor had already beat her to it.  :)  Please let Kim know I really appreciate the invitation.  I am most blessed.   <3

I need to put some more wood on the fire so .... see y'all soon.

Marilyn~I'm sure you will have a wonderful day with the Lord and hopefully with your family.  I know how you feel but we really don't have control of others' lives, no matter how much we would like to.   ;)

To all our friends in the States,  By now, you will have enjoyed your Thanksgiving dinner.  I trust you have been with family, or at least friends.  Marilyn - I have been praying especially for you.  I know how I would feel, if my son neglected to call me to have dinner with them, on such a special day as this.

My children, who live in Michigan, decided to "stay put", and have their neighbours over for dinner today.  They found out this particular neighbour, recently had a new baby boy, who lived only a few hours.  I am so glad that they will be able to give this family some comfort at this trying time.
"I am too blessed to be stressed".

I had dinner in Eureka  at Sarah's folk place. I finally called Gilbert and told him how I felt and then  Savannah called me back and asked me to go where they were going. I got overthere and John and ann had assumed that I would be there do they didn't even think to call me and tell me. I took my cake over there too. Good thing I baked it.

I watched the Dog show and that was nice. I love to watch stuff like that. Gilbert told me that he watched it too.

so now I feel better.

So glad, Marilyn, that you finally got together with them.  You did the right thing calling and talking about it - otherwise it might never have been settled, but now you have peace.  It's God's grace.

We got over to our loved ones's place and had an absolutely wonderul day over there.  I either had one or the other of the 9 and seven year olds either on my knee (had to be a "horsey") or sitting next to me with my arm around them.  Oh what joy there is in the love of children!  And what laughs too.  They were saying "I'm still hungry" even after eating unbelievable amounts of turkey, pork, sweet potatoes, ice cream, pumpkin pie, etc.!

Janet

Good evening!  I hope you have all enjoyed a great day with family and friends.  We had a nice day with daughter Diane and family, and Jeff's parents.  Of course, we took Beth too.

Marilyn, I am so sorry you got so stressed out about the plans for the day.  I understand it was hard to just pick up the phone and call your son, but sometimes we just need to swallow our pride and do it.  If you had called a few days ago, you could have saved yourself a lot of stress.  But anyway, glad you went, and hope things will go more smoothly in the future.  I know I wouldn't want to be left hanging about plans, but I wouldn't hesitate to call Diane.  Now, some of my others.......... :-X

We took our turkey fryer and the guys fried the turkey out on the driveway.  We had lovely weather today, so that wasn't a problem.  And the turkey was very good!  I had baked a coconut cream and a lemon meringue pie; and Jeff's mom brought a huge apple pie, a cherry and a blueberry pie---and Abby made a pumpkin pie.  So we certainly had plenty of pies for only 10 people!

It was wonderful to see the boys and collect those great hugs from them.  Mark is so happy and excited about college and flying, and his enthusiasm is contagious.  :)

I tried to be really good today, but I did eat more than I have been eating and I am hoping it won't be showing up on my scales.  I have lost 11 pounds, as of this morning, and I don't want it finding me again!

Larry, I had a DUH moment when I read your suggestion about Beth and John.  Now, why didn't I think of that?  Too simple, I guess.  :-[  Anyway, thanks for that suggestion, and I have passed it on to her.

I don't know which if any of my kids will be here for Christmas, but if none of them come, then I will invite some single people who would otherwise be alone.  Darrel and I enjoy doing that.  One year we had just us and three widow ladies, all elderly, whose families were neglecting them.  It was heartwarming, they were so grateful and happy for a home-cooked meal.  So, while I could be very hurt because my kids weren't coming, I can turn that into a blessing for others.  (But I still hope ALL of them will come. ^-^)

I had barely two hours of sleep again last night, so I'm fading fast.  See you tomorrow!

Hello Folks...

It's so nice to read all of your reports of how you spent Thanksgiving.  I was especially touched by reading your report of 1960, Ed.  It was one year later for Jack and I and then we went to Ireland to live for 5 years and talk about homesickness!  I know all about the "end of the month" whatever you have left in the cupboard deal.   :-\

But the Lord is gracious and we never went hungry.  We always had something.

I've just got in the house from one of the worst drives ever!  It's a blizzard out there and I just had to come across town from a supermarket the other side of town to my place and it took me about 3/4 hour (usually 15 minutes) and I couldn't see the road most of the way nor any of the other cars on the road so needless to say, I'm very happy to be in the house.

I'm going to lock up just a wee bit early as I'm still getting over this drive home and seeing numerous fender benders and cars in ditches and I just thank the Lord for getting me home safely and now I'm just going to go and spend some time with Him.

Talk to you all tomorrow.
