JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Morning Devotional...

The Power Of Praise
Let everything that lives sing praises to the LORD! (Psalm 150:6, NLT).

Dear friends:

A friend was going through difficult divorce proceedings. Her whole life had fallen apart and she was at the point of despair and had actually decided to taker her own life.

But God intervened. A praise tape that one of my associates and I had produced was put in her hands by a loved one with the suggestion that she listen to it.

Shortly later, while driving alone in her car, she placed the tape in the tape player and began to listen. As the music and the praise began to come forth, God began to speak to her heart. As she continued to listen, all of the dark satanic powers that had been enveloping her were forced to flee because Satan wants nothing to do with praise of God and praise music. Some theologians believe that before he rebelled and fell, Satan was the great choir director in heaven, and now every time he hears praise music he flees.

I have no doubt that Satan hates praise and praise music and cannot stand to be around it. If you want victory over the devil, just began praising the Lord with your words and with music.

So as the lady was driving along, the Holy Spirit suddenly captured her out of Satan's clutches and away from his influence. Even though she was a believer she was influenced by the agents of darkness, as we all can be if we open ourselves up to his influence.

She found herself sobbing in tears and surrendering all in her life that had not been yielded to Christ. She had been living her own way and doing her own thing. Now she said, "Lord, I surrender all to you." That is what God was waiting for.

Love flooded her heart. She called her loved ones to say, "God has touched my life listening to this praise tape."

"Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre,
praise him with tambourine and dancing, praise him with the strings and flute,
praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals.
Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD" (Psalm 150:3-5, NIV).

He is worthy.

Yours for helping to fulfill the Great Commission each year until our Lord returns,

Bill Bright

Great devotional, Janet ... but whatcha mean about "posting from your corner of the swamp"   >:(  SWAMP???  Not here!!

As Nita has already mentioned: we are experiencing our winter rains here on the coast ... I love to watch and listen to the wind and rain.  I have had a cozy fire for the past few days and I don't need to go out, so .... of course I can just enjoy!

I'm glad everyone got plenty of soup and are now sufficiently satisfied to relax and enjoy whatever God has in store for today ... I look forward to it!
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

karmat

Hi all!

I normally don't post links to other sites, adn stuff, but I happened to remember this link from some time back.  It is called Quantam Leap Strategies and it is a motivational/business type site, but they also sponsor a photography contest.  After browsing through the galleries, I though some of ya'll might be interested.

http://www.quantum-leap-strategies.com/photo_contest/photo_contest.html

Nita

Karmat, I checked that site out.  Boy, there are some really neat pictures.  Are you on there, by any chance?

Jane, some rain huh?  Good thing we have webbed feet.   Did you all know that Oregonians, true Oregonians, eventually grow webbed feet?
Jane is a true Oregonian....and has been since God moved her here.

Christmas?  I can't even get to my decorations.  I need to open up the attic door, tacked shut for now, and pull everything out.  I have a bed in front of it.  We put that there when Rene was coming.  That sounds like lots of work.  I know when I see all the other lights all over town, I'll get motivated to get my little tree out and lights and decorations.

Didn't we just do this the other day??

nita

Jane Walker

Yup, Nita ... We did do that just the other day .... (And, yeah, I have my webfeet!) I don't have any plans to decorate anything for Christmas.  My neighbor has lights all along their porch and decorations on a tree in front of their place.  I used to put lights on a tree outside my window but it's grown so much and my assortment of lights has not so ... I guess I'm just a Bah Humbug when it comes to such things.  :-\

I am thankful for the lessons I am learning from Holy Spirit.  In the past, because I am a teacher (in public education) I have had the tendency to explain and explain and explain so that the pupil will "get it" and understand the concept.  That works, and is the job of the teacher, in secular education.  But Jesus said the Holy Spirit will teach you all things.  I just need to present the information and He will see that the hearers understand what He wants them to know.  That takes a whole lot off my shoulders.  It's not up to me to see that anyone hears what God is saying.  He can take care of that very well by Himself.   :)
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Marilyn

Very well said Jane and definitely so true.

Well I suppose that Al and I must also have webbed feet living here in the north corner of of California so close to Oregon that the weather is the same in both places. I sure do love living here and feel as if this is where I belong. God planted me here and i am here to stay.

Would y-all please pray that Gilbert will be  going with me to the wedding of my eldest grandson in March, that God will prosper him enough so that he can go. I  really do not want to drive that far by myself knowing that in the past I have caught myself falling asleep at the wheel.

Janet I have no idea why people are not stealing my stuff in the tubs. I have them on a pallet under a tarp behind the house and they cannot be seen unless someone would go back there.  That is the only place I have to put them. I really need a shed but don't currently have the finances to buy one.

Maybe today I will get the ornaments put on my little tree.

We have genuine Oregonian web feet, because we lived for many years in the Portland area.

Marilyn - the reason no one will go back there and actually look under the tarp is that you have two dogs who would not let them (or at least would bark so much as to scare them).

Good Morning Everyone!

We have freezing rain this morning.  I put Geordie out for his first "out" of the day and he slipped and could hardly stand.  Everything has icicles hanging off it.  I'm staying put for sure!

Hello to you all!  Sounds like a lot of you have your decorations up for Christmas!  I'm just going to get my little fiber optic tree out of it's bag and plug it in!

Talk to you later.  I have a big Avon order to pack.

Let the Lower Lights Be Burning
(Click to hear music)

"Keep your lamps burning."
Luke 12:35

Words & Music: Philip P. Bliss, 1871

Philip P. Bliss, The Charm: A Collection of Sunday School Music (Chicago, Illinois: Root & Cady, 1871)

On a dark, stormy, night, when the waves rolled like mountains, and not a star was to be seen, a boat, rocking and plunging, neared the Cleveland harbor. "Are you sure this is Cleveland?" asked the captain, seeing only one light from the lighthouse.
"Quite sure, sir," replied the pilot.
"Where are the lower lights?"
"Gone out, sir."
"Can you make the harbor?"
"We must, or perish, sir!"
And with a strong hand and a brave heart, the old pilot turned the wheel. But alas, in the darkness he missed the channel, and with a crash upon the rocks the boat was shivered, and many a life lost in a watery grave. Brethren, the Master will take care of the great lighthouse: let us keep the lower lights burning!
D. L. Moody.

Brightly beams our Father's mercy from His lighthouse evermore,
But to us He gives the keeping of the lights along the shore.
Let the lower lights be burning! Send a gleam across the wave!
For to us He gives the keeping of the lights along the shore.

Dark the night of sin has settled, loud the angry billows roar;
Eager eyes are watching, longing, for the lights, along the shore.
Let the lower lights be burning! Send a gleam across the wave!
Eager eyes are watching, longing, for the lights, along the shore.

Trim your feeble lamp, my brother, some poor sailor tempest tossed,
Trying now to make the harbor, in the darkness may be lost.
Let the lower lights be burning! Send a gleam across the wave!
Trying now to make the harbor, some poor sailor may be lost.

Hi everone.  I am working on a computer at the Saturn dealers that is setup for the use of customers.  I brought my car in for a free oil change and inspection as they sent me a coupon as a customer appreication gift.  I also had a recall notice on the car and they are taking care of that while I am here.  It has something to do with the taillight.  I have my fingers crossed that the inspection will not indicate any problems since it isn't in the budget at this time.

Janet, sorry to hear that Darrel has experienced some more heart problems and hope the doctor visit will confirm nothing serious.  I find that I can have bad times and then they seem to pass.  Perhaps he has been driving himself too hard in all the repairing and work he and you have been doing.  Glad that the pain has stopped.  Bill Bright really wrote well and had something to say.  Thanks for the devotional today.  Are you snowed in where you are?

Ed, we Presbyterians use the Creeds as a part of our litany during our service.  We don't alway use the same one and that is helpful in terms of concentrating on what is being said versus reciting something from memory.

Nita, I hope there is nothing serious with your sister.  Perhaps medication can control the problem.

Karmat, were you able to get some of todays work done last night?

Ruth Ann, you are working too hard.  Those long days take their toll.

Ruth, glad to see you have your computer working again.

Marilyn, I do hope that Gilbert will be able to go with you as sure he would like to see his siblings.

Jane, I understand it is hard to feel festive when you are along during a holiday such as Christmas.  However, know you are surrounded by many friends in the cyberworld who care about you.

Pat I hope you are planning on staying inside today and not taking a chance of falling on the ice.  This is really some severe winter storm in the midpart of the country and apparently hitting Canada hard as well.

Well, I guess I had better post this as they should be coming shortly to tell me my car is ready.

Etta Sue

Good morning all.

Janet ~ So sad to hear that Darrell is having his heart problems again.  It does sound like your church members are Godly people who follow God's word in praying over Darrell.  You once said, 'The One Who Made Me Understands All My Problems and He Can Make Them Right'.  I have that printed out and right in front of me.  I believe God is the answer to all problems.

Karma ~ Thanks for that sight.  I sent that URL to some photo friends. Great pictures on there.

Al ~ You aren't that old to make a mistake of 6 months behind or ahead.  Funny, no one noticed it but Pat.... <3

Jane ~ Since I have moved here, no one sees my Christmas lights on the outside even.  Well, a few cars but most of the cars in during the day.  Ivalou and my son would be the only ones to see the inside.  And the cats have a hey-day with anything new or different.  So I probably won't do anything about decorations other than big plastic red bows on my deck outside.  I am with you, girl!  It is in my heart...I don't need to show it to the world.

I made another magnetic calendar for a silent auction for the Photo Guild that I belong to.  This time I put my orchids in PSP.  Added a layer, filled it with white and changed the opacity to 69-71%.  Then saved them.  I printed them and then printed the calendar over the background.  Really looks nice.  I still have a picture but on one page instead of two AND didn't use a lot of ink!

My drive to Knightstown last evening is over.  I am glad of it.  I don't drive much at night and certainly never liked driving in the rain.  So my stomach was in knots the whole way there...about 35 miles.  But it was dry in spots on the way home and not raining.  Thank God for that.

Today is the chiropractor.  I am wondering if I really did the right thing financially.

Janet

Have you gotten used to seeing me in blue nearly every time?  :)

I think today will be a better day, because I went and worked out.  That really does help relieve my stress.  And it was really bad earlier today.  Darrel got up and had three episodes of the pain in less than an hour.  I called Beth, and she said she hadn't enough strength to get her covers off and get out of bed; that her right arm wouldn't work.  :'(  I wanted to sit down and cry, but I thought, what good would THAT do?  So I put on my exercise clothes and went and worked out.  Now the problems are still here, but I feel more able to cope with them.

I am holding tight to God's promise not to allow more than we can handle; and with His help, I can do all things.  Right?

Darrel has a big installation going on, so he promised to sit and do nothing but unspool the wire, while Lance does the climbing of ladders and stringing of wire.  He took along his cell phone and promised to call if he needs me.  I am trusting God to protect him and preserve him.

Larry, no, we don't have snow, and today is beautiful again, probably in the 40s with no wind.  I really appreciate that!

I still haven't completely solved the dilemma of getting Beth to Dodge City; I do not want to put that burden on Pat alone.  Maybe my sister can go along and help.  I asked her this morning but she has to check the schedule and see if she will be babysitting her two grandbabies that day.  I know God has a plan for us..............

I need to get showered and dressed and get some lunch for Darrel.

Please continue to pray.  I love you all.

Hi Janet...  Still praying here.   <3  You take care.  Are you far from I-70?  I saw such horrible driving conditions on I-70 in Kansas on the news last night.

Etta Sue, I know what you mean about the decorations.  I wouldn't mind some lights on one tree I have outside and I'd see it from my bedroom window but maybe won't bother this year.  I really like the idea of one though on my deck in front of my living room for next year.

Thanks for the devotional, Janet.  Gospel music does seem to bring a wonderful feeling of peace that words really can't describe.  Possibly the only time we are truly free of Satan is when we are praising the Lord.  Seems as if everything in the world has become tainted with a coat of evil......

I am praying for Darrel and also for Beth and certainly for you, Janet.  Will continue to do so and trust that things will get better in your world.

We had our snow last night and it is very cold this morning....ground all covered in white and ice.  Misty was not too happy going out to meet Billy Bob (neighbours cat) and I will bring her back inside the garage when Wendy returns with the car.  Wendy had to go out and help a friend who has MS and still has one accounting client, tho' is totally helpless and in a wheelchair.  She uses some sort of special computer but needs Wendy to run a tape, etc.  Wendy does it out of friendship and not for money.  I wish she hadn't gone out with the car as it has become increasingly hard for her to drive...can hardly back up the car now and will not be able to drive much longer.  Lana called and needs her...so off she goes.  Sort of a younger version of our Janet!

I put up my small Christmas tree and will take a picture.  Gave the Fiber Optic one to Amanda as it hurts my eyes.  I also like to put on the very old decorations as it makes a pretty sight....call me old fashioned.  They deck the house beautifully inside and out and must keep my little place (not really little) part of things.

Went to Victoria on the bus for a few hours yest. in order to beat the snow.  We are in for some unpleasant weather for the next while.  It was chilly but love walking in the crisp air.  Sometimes I get such a need for a 'city fix' that nothing else will satisfy.  Spent too many years in big cities to every really feel at home anywhere else.....

Think that I will start some of my Christmas baking today.  Will ultilize the heat from the oven as well as doing something useful.  Try to keep the costs down.  Guess the air will be heating up lots with a new election coming soon.  The old federal gov. has been thrown out, so to speak!  There will be much 'ill will towards men' filling the Christmas air in days to come :clobber:

Pat, I'm glad to see more activity in the gallery.  I always go look at the latest additions.  Then I scroll down to the random files and always find one or two that I missed when it was first posted.  I'm glad you keep reminding us. :)

I wouldn't even bother getting to the Christmas tree, but with Angel here I feel I should.  I'd hate to appear Bah Humbug to her.  Her mom will be gone until after Christmas, so she'll probably be at her dad's this year.  Still........I need a tree.  I like colored lights and candles.  I have a little fake tree that is easy to set up and take down.

I'd like to learn how to make candles.  I used to, but it's been a long time.  Scented candles are so expensive.  Maybe making my own would be less expensive?

If we Oregonians, and Northern Californians, grow webbed feet because of the rain, I wonder if those living where there's lots of snow grow their own kind of feet?  Boy, this environmental evolution is something, huh?  Pat, what kind of feet to Canadians have?

Pat

Hi Nita...

I'm so glad about the Gallery.  It's taken a long time to get folks used to it but it seems to be working now and it's so nice to be able to see the photos nice and large.

I click on "Last Uploads" and have a look and then I click on "Last Comments" to see what folks are saying.  (I'm nosey!)

Re my feet?  Well, most Canadians in this part of the country for the winter months would have to have "beaver tails"!  Big and wide and flat so they won't sink in the snow!

I enjoy Christmas and trees but just don't see the need for just me but would really like one on my deck that I can see from my living room window.

I got home from the chiropractor and now I have to be in Indy at 7 a.m. tomorrow for an MRI.  I am claustrophobic so I am insisting on some la-la meds to help me cope.  Not really bad in close quarters...just don't like the penned in feeling.  Probably from when my brother used to hold me down until I would say, 'Uncle'!  Anyway, my x-rays show a curve in my spine and the MRI will tell them more.

So since I have to drive the couple to Bloomington tomorrow afternoon, I may not be back until late tomorrow night.

Marilyn

Etta Sue now they have open MRI's maybe you will get one of the newer machines.

Etta Sue - I had an open one, and it was no trouble at all.  Really quite simple and easy.

By the way, folks, I remember reading someone's post that gasoline was $2.08.  Here it's $2.42 at the "discount" stations.  I saw one, though, that was $2.39.  I get mine for $2.38 by means of a Commercial Fuel Network card.

Al, I saw gas today for $1.86.  We filled the cars over the weekend and it was $1.89 so it is coming down.

Marilyn, I loved the Southern XP book and have sent it to several of my friends and my son, who will get a kick out of it.

We haven't even thought about decorating for Christmas but I am sure my wife will get in the mood before too long.  She does have a winter village that we leave up all year round on top of our entertainment center.  Then at Christmastime she turns the lights on in the little houses, church and stores.

Janet, so sorry to hear that Darrel is having angina.  I hope he behaved himself today.  So sorry to hear that Beth is having such a time.  Glad you didn't have the snow.

They didn't find anything wrong with my car so my visit to the get my free oil change, inspection and recall work didn't cost me anything.  I stopped at MicroCenter (a computer store) and got a new headset for my laptop and am listening to beautiful music with it now.  My laptop had terrible sound built in and this seems to solve the problem as well as allowing me to get more volume than the other headsets I had.

My daughter just came in and said someone had almost hit her and caused her to go off the road and probably ruin her tire.  Fortunately someone came along and changed it for her so she didn't have to wait for the Auto Club to arrive as they told her when she called there was a 2 1/2 hour wait.  I think if the tire is ruined her warranty should replace it.  This is twice she has had to go off the road to prevent being hit.

Etta Sue, I hope you have good results from your MRI tomorrow and that it doesn't bother you too much.
