JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

Morning Devotional...

And they departed quickly from the sepulcher with fear and great joy; and did run to bring His disciples word.
Matthew 28:8

In the world of men, fear and great joy are completely incompatible. Not so in the spiritual realm.

Often our times of greatest joy are times when we are awe-struck by the demonstration of His power and glory.

When we first came to Christ, fear filled our hearts as the terrors of law and of God took hold on our hearts, but almost simultaneously, surpassing joy was ours as we came to recognize that the Saviour had died to deliver us from all our sins.
—W. H. Burnett

Jehovah Tsidkenu
(Click to hear music)

by Robert Murray M'Cheyne

"THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS"
(The watchword of the Reformers.)

I once was a stranger to grace and to God,
I knew not my danger, and felt not my load;
Though friends spoke in rapture of Christ on the tree,
Jehovah Tsidkenu was nothing to me.

I oft read with pleasure, to sooth or engage,
Isaiah's wild measure and John's simple page;
But e'en when they pictured the blood-sprinkled tree
Jehovah Tsidkenu seem'd nothing to me.

Like tears from the daughters of Zion that roll,
I wept when the waters went over His soul;
Yet thought not that my sins had nail'd to the tree
Jehovah Tsidkenu - 'twas nothing to me.

When free grace awoke me, by light from on high,
Then legal fears shook me, I trembled to die;
No refuge, no safety in self could I see, -
Jehovah Tsidkenu my Saviour must be.

My terrors all vanished before the sweet name;
My guilty fears banished, with boldness I came
To drink at the fountain, life-giving and free, -
Jehovah Tsidkenu is all things to me.

Jehovah Tsidkenu! my treasure and boast,
Jehovah Tsidkenu! I ne'er can be lost;
In thee I shall conquer by flood and by field,
My cable, my anchor, my breast-plate and shield!

Even treading the valley, the shadow of death,
This "watchword" shall rally my faltering breath;
For while from life's fever my God sets me free,
Jehovah Tsidkenu, my death song shall be.

Well!  How about this?  I get to be first today. (Actually tonight!)

Good thoughts, Pat.  I thought of the shepherds in the fields on the night of Jesus' birth---they experienced both great fear and great joy.  What a wonderful season this is.

It is bitterly cold here tonight, with wind chill factors making it seem like 18 below zero.  I do not think I will try to get Beth out and take her for her last therapy session in the morning.  It's just too much when it's this cold.  I brought her over this evening for supper and to open her gifts, and even with Diane helping me, it was a real chore getting her back into her house.

I need to take some vitamin C and head to bed.  My throat is feeling a little scratchy.

See you all tomorrow!

Janet ... I was here right behind you but didn't post.   :)  I am really praying for you and the situations you face every day.  I understand your concern about Beth and her decisions.  God is still in control ... He will take care of her and you and Darrel ... He loves each of us soooo much.

Nita~ I have enough wood to last until Saturday and then Don will bring me some more.  He and Rose are going to Portland today and Rose is flying to Denver on Friday. That's why I told Rose I could make it until Saturday.   Don will be back home and bring me the wood on Saturday. Always in God's perfect timing.   :)

I am s'posed to give blood again this afternoon, so I have taken care of all my obligations for the day.  I will be back after a while and see what everyone's been up to ..... Until then ........ Love, Jane

Hi everyone.

I will write a few lines before going to coffee.  I was able to complete my article yesterday, only 500 words (the word counter in my Word Processor program came in handy.)  I thought it would be a good idea to send it to the author of the book I was reviewing and I found his e-mail address via a Google search and sent it to him.  Within 90 minutes I had a response pointing out one spelling error and changing the URL I had used for his new interest, which is blogging.  I was really impressed.  When I checked out his blog he had written an entry saying that someone had just sent him an article to review for factual content and that was almost a first since the news people don't do that anymore.  I was hesistate to bother the man but now am certainly glad I did as he obviously appreciated the opportunity to see what was going to be printed in the magazine.

Today I want to test out the software program involving using my laptop as a third monitor and try to get the article written about it so that I will have that out of the way.  I also need to work on my Christmas cards.  Tonight is choir practice.  At least these are my plans for the day.

Nita and others, I think you absolutely do the right thing to deny acceptance of any Skype request you don't know.  The new version allows you to search via e-mail address for the Skype name.  That is the way I found Jane's.  Besides, we are all busy people.  However, I have to admit I had a nice conversation with the young man from India who was working in Saudi Arabia.  However, he then wanted to chat the next day and the next and I have quite turning on that program.

Jane, it is wonderful that someone is bringing you the wood you need.

Pat, I don't think you had mentioned your newspaper photography work before.  You are a wonderful photographer.

Marilyn, it sounds wise not to try to get Beth out when it is so cold.  Missing the therapy session will just be one of many that, I assume, she will miss while she is away.  I saw that you all were having much colder weather.  How is Darrel doing today?

Pat, thanks for the devotional.

Jeanne, you can get a headset with a built in mic for less than $20.  If you make many long distance calls a person could pay for the headset if the people they were calling also have computers and get the Skype free service.  However, I certainly agree that the tires are a priority.  :)

Marilyn, did you get your car fixed yesterday.  Don't like the sounds of the ice you are having to deal with.

Congrats to Anna on her new camera.

Well, I am must leave for coffee.  Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Anthony

Well, I'm late posting this morning.  It's good to see people before me.  Janet, I am sorry to hear that you have a sore throat this morning and do hope you feel better as the day goes on.  I am also sorry to hear that the weather is so bad that you can't take Beth out today.  It must be a difficult situation, but it is nice to hear your possitive comments whenever you post on here.  How is your husband today?

Jane, good to see you this morning and hope everything goes well with the blood doning.  I have never given any blood as someone said it is a bad idea if you have jaundice, but I think they have made mistake haven't they?

Larry, nice story about the review that you wrote and thanks for taking so much trouble to get in touch with the man.  Hope you have a great day today.

Pat, thanks for the devotional this morning.  How true it is, that often our greatest victories are when we are facing our most difficult situations.

My car has gone in for a service today, so I have been able to stay home and do some cleaning.  It's amazing how dirty houses get isn't it?  I am glad that I have this opportunity to have a clean up.

God bless everyone and you all have a great day today.

Anthony.

Papa John

Good morning Pat, Janet, Jane, Larry, and Andrew.  I hope you all have a good day today.

It was 64 years ago today December 7, 1941, that Pearl Harbor was attacked. We had been at church that morning. It just happened that we were sitting around after Sunday dinner listening to the radio when the announcer broke in to announce that the Japanese had attacked Pearl Harbor and were bombing our fleet.

The next day at school we all gathered in the auditorium and our principal, Mr. Luther, had a radio on the stage and he announced that we were going to hear the speech of President Roosevelt. We listened as he asked congress to declare war. Wow! It was a historical time that we lived in. Before the war was over I joined the Navy in May, 1945, and fortunately for me in August, 1945 the war was over.

As we pray today let us pray for peace.  This season of the year when we especially are thinking about the birth of our Savior we should desire "On earth peace, good will toward men."

1 Tim 2:1-3  Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men,  for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.  For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,  (NKJ)

Papa John

Eph 2:8-9  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can boast.(NIV)

Marilyn

Good Morning. Thank you Pat for today's devotional.

Yes I did get my car fixed yesterday and It is so good to be able to  open the drivers door without rolling down the window and reaching out side to open it, then having to fight the window to get it back up  and into the correct position. Now I have noticed that my Cruise control isn't working.  That is a minor thing.

It is raining here again today. This too shall pass. Last evening I moved some boxes that I have stacked in the back part of my living room and set my china cabinet where I want it.

I  unpacked a few more boxes and have about 10 more  to go to finish unpacking. I brought in the aquarium and set  it on the stand. I was afraid the glass would break if it kept getting frozen every night out side.

I am finally getting things put on my knick knack shelves in the kitchen and I have to buy some brackets to put up some other shelve before I can actually get all the stuff out of the boxes. Maybe I will get back to some of it today after work.

Hey Marilyn!  I have a pile of brackets!  If you come and get them, you can have them.   :lol:

Papa John, it was good to see you posting this morning and thank you for reminding us that our aim, as Christians, is for peace and goodwill to be spread about us.  It was both interesting and sad to be reminded of the attack on Pearl Harbour.  It must have been a frightening experience.  The evil in the world seems to show up more brightly the message of the gospel.  Thank you for posting brother and I trust that you and your family are all well.

Etta Sue

I just spent 2 hours online finding replacement blades for my personal paper trimmer.  They sell them at WalMart and Staples but not the replacement blades.  And wouldn't you know that they were found on the 35th site that Carl Brand said sells their products!!

Larry ~ Yes, I remember that Jerry and I used earphones to avoid feedback.  I will look into a headset with the microphone built in the next time I stop at WalMart...about the only convenient store near me.

It is so cold.  How cold is it, you say?  At 11 a.m. it is 10°F.  When it was trash take out time it was 5.1°F.  Brrrr!  My hip didn't want to work very good this morning so I took my trash to the garage and put it in the trunk of my car and then DROVE it to my brother's drive.  Better on my hip!

Gotta work on Christmas cards today!!

Oh, yeah!  I got the Victorian Dinner photos uploaded.  Here they are....

REPENTANCE

Godly sorrow produces
repentance leading to salvation.

Thanks for the devotional.

Just turned the computer on to get a mailing address for a Christmas Card that I will be sending - the last one and I am done all I need now is to do is add the return addresses and buy stamps this is the easy part.
I guess I am no different than a few others I to have a cold and  spending the day in bed was not an option, perhaps in the long haul that is a good thing but it was certainly my desire.

Computers are a pain but we love them - we are still having problems so buying a new monitor is what lies ahead. All the others systems checked out fine leaving the monitor to be at fault, we cannot really complain as this one has served us well for 10 or so years.

Away in a Manager
(Click to hear music)

She gave birth to her firstborn, a son.
She wrapped Him in cloths and placed Him in a manger,
because there was no room for them in the inn.
Luke 2:7

Words: Verses 1 & 2, anonymous, in Little Children?s Book for Schools and Families, by J. C. File (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: Evangelical Lutheran Church in North America, 1885). Some sources show the author as Martin Luther; this attribution (probably incorrect) is based on the title "Luther's Cradle Hymn," given to these words by the composer, James Murray, in his Dainty Songs for Little Lads and Lasses (Cincinnati, Ohio: The John Church Co., 1887). Verse 3 is by John Thomas McFarland (1851-1913)

Music: "Mueller," James R. Murray, 1887

Away in a manger, no crib for a bed,
The little Lord Jesus laid down His sweet head.
The stars in the sky looked down where He lay,
The little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay.

The cattle are lowing, the Baby awakes,
But little Lord Jesus, no crying He makes;
I love Thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky
And stay by my cradle til morning is nigh.

Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to stay
Close by me forever, and love me, I pray;
Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care,
And fit us for heaven to live with Thee there.

Boy, it's cold here too, Etta Sue!  High today of 6*, with a low tonight of -7.  I hope the wind doesn't blow any harder or the wind chill will be in the basement!

Darrel and I had to go out to the bank, dr's office and drug store doing stuff for Beth.  The guy who is making her brace drove clear out here from Wichita to deliver it; and then found out they had sent him the wrong size shoes!  :ticked:  Well, he discovered the shoe mistake earlier, I guess, because he bought her a pair at Wal=Mart which he says will get her by until they send the right ones. :(  What an ordeal.  Now the shoes will have to be mailed to her in NY.  I am just tied in knots about her even going this time, but have to place her in God's hands.

Our Red Hats luncheon was today, at a new B & B near here (Just a couple of miles from me, actually.)  These people bought a very old farmhouse and restored it to its original look, and are just getting started in the business.  This should give them a boost, as all the ladies were impressed with the place.  It is really neat.

I must check Beth's itinerary; order Mark's gift, send Diane a list of sizes and a dozen more things.  Ruth, I haven't done one card yet!   I'm wondering if I will get them sent this year!  Maybe after tomorrow things may approach normal again........but I doubt it.  What IS normal, anyway?  :-\

Larry, did you see the message for you in my post yesterday?

Anthony, good to see you posting.  Want to come clean for me when you get yours done?  Thanks!  :lol:

Gotta run, miles to go before I sleep............and cantata practice tonight.  Hope I can sing with this throat.

Greetings all from the Sick House of Shuford. :(

I had the stomach stuff last week, and Travis had a cold.  Now, Travis has the stomach stuff and Kristi has an upper respiratory infection.  If she gets worse tonight, we are to take her to the Emergency Room.  If she makes it through the night, but isn't showing improvement by tomorrow, it's back to the doctor with us.  Yuck, yuck, yuck, double yuck.

So, if I'm scarce, that is why.

Take care all, and stay wram!!!

Well, I thought I'd shock everyone with our cold temperatures, but 7 F at 6:00 a.m. and 20 F at 8 p.m.  with a high of about 25 F this afternoon don't hold a candle to what some of you are getting.  :-\  So I won't mention our temperatures.   ;)

Took my car to the mechanic this morning and he brought me home, expecting the new tires to arrive this afternoon.  However about 5:00 tonight he called and asked could I survive without the car tonight.  I told him sure, I won't need it until around noon tomorrow.  Seems the tires arrived later than expected and he wasn't quite finished.  So tomorrow morning he'll deliver it.  :)  And I'll pay him.   :'(

Yes, Marilyn, Beth is leaving very early in the morning, Dec. 8.  :-\

I am so distressed over her condition, and trying very hard to not let it make me depressed.  I really do not know how she will manage, she barely gets by here at home with our help.  And if anyone mentions a rest home, she goes ballistic!  I really don't blame her, she is only 43 years old; but what in the world is going to become of her?  :'(

Karma, so sorry about your little family being sick.  That's not nice at all, and certainly not fun.  ((((hugs)))) to all of you, along with prayers for a speedy recovery.

I must get to bed, have to get up at four to get Beth to the airport. :-\
