Oldiesmann: I'm not aware of any Jenny. Not sure why activity has died down on this site so much though 2023-06-12, 00:06:36

JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

When the Bible says we can do all things through Christ, it means we can do all things through Christ!

AMEN

Karma that is great.

Pat I really like that  Carol I have never heard that one before.

Well I certainly agree with JudyB If you can't sit with Jesus and do what you do then it is wrong . Not exactly quoted from Judy but means the same thing.

Gentle Mary Laid Her Child
(Click to hear music)

"She wrapped Him in cloths and placed Him in a manger." Luke 2:7

Words: Joseph S. Cook, 1919

Music: "Tempus Adest Floridum," from Piae Cantiones, 1582

Gentle Mary laid her Child lowly in a manger;
There He lay, the undefiled, to the world a Stranger:
Such a Babe in such a place, can He be the Savior?
Ask the saved of all the race who have found His favor.

Angels sang about His birth; wise men sought and found Him;
Heaven's star shone brightly forth, glory all around Him:
Shepherds saw the wondrous sight, heard the angels singing;
All the plains were lit that night, all the hills were ringing.

Gentle Mary laid her Child lowly in a manger;
He is still the undefiled, but no more a stranger:
Son of God, of humble birth, beautiful the story;
Praise His Name in all the earth, hail the King of glory!

Well ..... I was here and posted a reply right after Marilyn ... er, uh, at least I thought I did ...  :idiot:    :-\   Actually I got a phone call and got offline so maybe I didn't get the message posted before I left.

Anyway, I was saying to Janet that I really like all the old Christmas carols too.  Seems I don't hear them on the radio as much as I used to.  We will be singing just Christmas songs when we go to the nursing home this Sunday ... That will be fun!

Pat~I heard that first carol sung by a large choir with orchestral accompaniment last night ... I like it, too!   ;)

I have had a rather unsettling phone conversation with someone from my past and there are a lot of things I need to think (and pray) about since it may be that I'll have a visitor one of these daze ... Oh me ...  ::)
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

nards656

Good morning, everyone.  Thanks for the devotional, Karm.  That's definitely encouraging, and I appreciate it :)

I hope all of you have a great day.  Jane, I hope you can regain peace in your mind after that telephone conversation.  Those can definitely distract and disturb.

Remember - KEEP CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS!!  Let's all wish everyone that we have the opportunity a "Merry Christmas", if for no other reason than to utter the name of Christ that is being so effectively eliminated from the season.  To al the stores, merchants and businesses that are so concerned with "offending", let's all encourage them to remember that none of the other holidays are the reason for the gift-giving that brings them so much money.  Christmas is all about giving -even though it has been distorted - and without it, there would be no need for Christmas Sales, Day After Thanksgiving Sales, or any of that malarkey.  So WHY are they so worried about eliminating Christmas??  It's absolutely ignorant, to me.

Now, I'll get off my soapbox.  Had absolutely no plans to say so much, but we Christians need to stop letting this de-Christianizing influence our lives.  Let's be proud to be Christians.  Let's be proud of our Saviour, born in a manger.  Let's be proud that we don't have to rely on Santa to be our gift giver.

Good day, love you guys and gals!

:'( Hello Friends ... I am sorry that I have not been around that much but it has been crazy at this end.  I am here to ask A BIG FAVOR of all of you.

And, so I am asking that all of you keep him in prayer.  I am wanting to be wanting him around for many more years to come & I LOVE HIM & he is always there for me for all my tests & struggles and so I want to be there with him which I am so keep us in prayer ok ?

So, I will UPDATE when I can I hope to be back here soon !!  Take care and thanks much for all the prayers said !!

Hugs,

Pat

Good Morning Everyone!

For once I slept right through the night--I think!  ;)

I have a very busy day ahead of me so won't be around much.  Lots of errands and a meeting tonight to attend.

Nard, we're having such a difficult time up here in Canada as well with the anti-Christmas folks.

Infant Holy, Infant Lowly
(Click to hear music)

"She gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn." Luke 2:7

Words: Traditional carol in Spiewniczek Piesni Koscielne, 1908; translated from Polish to English by Edith M. Reed, 1921

Music: "W Zlobie Lezy" (He Lies in the Cradle), Polish carol; arranged by Edith M. Reed

Infant holy, Infant lowly, for His bed a cattle stall;
Oxen lowing, little knowing, Christ the Babe is Lord of all.
Swift are winging angels singing, noels ringing, tidings bringing:
Christ the Babe is Lord of all.

Flocks were sleeping, shepherds keeping vigil till the morning new
Saw the glory, heard the story, tidings of a Gospel true.
Thus rejoicing, free from sorrow, praises voicing, greet the morrow:
Christ the Babe was born for you.

Karma, what a refreshing devotional!  Thanks so much for that.  It is good to have "new blood" posting the NEMs sometimes, I think.  Each of us has a different perspective from the others, and that bit of a different view helps all of us to see truths in a new light.

Nards, I agree 100%!  Darrel and I have been boycotting Target for several years now because of their very shabby treatment and disrespect of our veterans; because they banned the Salvation Army bell-ringers from their property; and this year they added the insult of avoiding the word CHRISTmas in any of their advertising, not allowing thier employees to wish people a Merry Christmas, etc.  We just heard they lost so much revenue from that, that they have recinded the last part---but they still have a way to go, in my opinion.  And if we, as Christians, do not stand up for our rights to express our love for our Savior in public, this erosion of our rights will continue on and on.

Pat, we do still have the whole month of December with Christmas songs on our Christian radio station.  A lot of them are arrangements that set my teeth on edge, but..........that's another story.  (You can't please 'em all!)  :P

I finally humbled myself and called my eldest daughter last night, and she said she hadn't even thought about spending any time with us this Christmas.  :'(  It is strange how they can just shut you out of their lives and never seem to miss you, and all the while your heart is breaking with love for them..........  But my Jesus knows, and He cares.  Things like this are the reason so many are unhappy and depressed during this time of year.

Jane, sounds as if you do have some pondering to do.  But I believe you will hear from your Father and make the right decision, whatever the choices facing you.

I'm going to swim today instead of weight lifting.  It just sounds like a refreshing change for me.

Tonight is the Christmas dinner at the care home where my Mom lives, so I will be attending that with her.

Pat, I hope you get everything accomplished today that you have planned.

I love many of the old carols.  There are many in our day who won't do/sing anything older than 20 years - in church, in public, anywhere.  Personally, I think such an attitude is downright foolish.  Those old writers were our brothers and sisters!  They knew a thing or two.  Those old carols were really just hymns with an advent motif.  I not only think we should sing them, but I believe we should sing them also in July, or August, or September.  I wish "Joy to the World" all year!

karmat

Swimming.  That sounds good.  I need to get back to my workout schedule at Curves.  Haven't been in a couple of weeks.

Getting ready to go to work.  Today, I pick two of my nephews up at Kindergarten and Pre-school and take them with Travis and Kristi to my mom's!  She get to keep a 6 yo, a just turned 4 yo, an almost 4 yo, and a 10 mos old.  makes me tired to think about it.  Then, when I get my two, she will go watch two others play basketball.   ;)

I just like Christmas carols.  . . ...

What is ya'lls favorite of favorite?????

Traditional -- What Child Is This?

Contemporary -- Once Upon a Christmas

Secular -- Sleighride

Al -- 20yrs????  Wow.  That's eliminating a lot of songs that are downright good.  "Because He Lives" is one of the first that comes to mind. . .

Just typed a post and lost it.   And I don't know why!  Wahhhh!

Karen ~ I know you are worried about Rolan...but he is in God's hands.  Janet said once...The one who made you understands all your problems and he can make them right.  I use that quote quite often.  It is peaceful to know that God is in control!  You are all in my prayers.

Alcohol, gambling, smoking?  If you think you shouldn't, then you shouldn't.  What is a sin for one, may not be a sin for another.  But we aren't to judge...our judge will be God.

Christmas music?  I like it all.  But prefer the older singers and arrangements.  I wonder if the kids of today....50 years from now...will be singing 'their' Christmas music then...."Grandma Got Ran Over by a Reindeer"????????

My favorite is 'Mary, Did you Know?'

The dinner last night at the Photo Guild was great.  Lots of food and superb cooks.  Then we had a slide show/talk on composition.  I didn't know the difference between a snapshot...subject centered and a photograph...subject composed per composition.  But with all the different ways for composition, I think what ever is pleasing to your eye is okay.  'Tis in the eye of the beholder!

Just the chiropractor for me today.  Snow coming again to Indiana tomorrow!

One of my favorites is "Mary did you know?" I see it  is Etta Sue's also. I think Mark Lowery did a great job of writing it. Even if it is only 10 yrs. old.

Good Morning. I have been here a couple of times and did not post had other things to get done before I go to work. I am going 1/2 hour early because I am going to make bread for Fay. I told here that I made bread for Versal so now she wants me to make bread for her. I use a bread mix don't make it from scratch. I just found a box of Hawaiian bread mix for myself.

I hope  don't get so tired today that I keep yawning all day long like I did yesterday. I forgot to take my vitamins for two day but don't know if that has anything to do with how tired I was, I hadn't slept well either.

I smile each day when I hear "Mary did you know" on the local radio stations here.  It has been recorded by Canadian "Idol" Kalan Porter (I hope I've spelt his name correctly) and he does such a great job of it, and I am so happy that such a powerful Christian Christmas song is played on secular radio stations.  I pray that through this song, someone's heart will be opened.

Now that I've caught up with all the reading again, must get busy and get some more chores done.  The never-ending battle continues.

Good Afternoon Everyone-
Today is busy with school and the kids working at the Christmas Tree Lot-I have lots of house work left to do and grocery shopping to do. Yesterday I got my $ back from my old camera and just decided to get a Kodak Easy Share Camera-my husband said if I bought one that was a little less that I could put the remainder amount of the $ on a sewing machine I have been wanting and he would pay the rest. So, I got my new camera and a new sewing machine :)
I also left a prayer request in the prayer area- I would ask that all of  you pray for my sister Judy and also my son.

Thanks
Have a blessed day

Papa John

"Mary, Did You Know" is a beautiful song.  I bought the CD two years ago.  I have it on my computer and every now and then we listen to it.

Luke 2:15-19
15   When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about."
16   So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.
17   When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child,
18   and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.
19   But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. (NIV)

Luke 2:47-52
47   Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers.
48   When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, "Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you."
49   "Why were you searching for me?" he asked. "Didn't you know I had to be in my Father's house?"
50   But they did not understand what he was saying to them.
51   Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart.
52   And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men. (NIV)

Papa John

Eph 2:8-9  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can boast.(NIV)

Hi everyone.  I couldn't get here yesterday as had Internet connection problems until this morning.

Good to see all the postings but will comment on only a few this evening as I am too far behind to try to write too much.

Tbear, sorry to hear that your husband is ailing and hope the test tomorrow was indicate the problem.  That would be very worrisome.

Marilyn, with regard to your question about alcohol I would tend to agree with the many comments that have now been offered.  Personally, I don't care to drink and our family has been seriously impacted by the negative aspects of drinking.  I want to always be in full possession of my faculties.  It is also so expensive.  I really don't want to see my ministers drinking but we need to keep in mind that the minister is human also and why should I expect him/her to observe a set of rules that I might not.

Etta sue, I liked your little smilies and you used them very cleverly.  Hope you don't get snowed in.

Janet, I think Abby has a good idea for Christmas.  However, that is certainly not the normal thing a child her age might be requesting.  :)

Karmat, I liked the devotional today.  It puts things in perspective.

I like the old Christmas hymns and we have been singing them in our church services.  I also think some of the newer Christmas songs, such as "Mary, Did You Know" is very beautiful and meaningful.

Liz, sorry to hear of your SIL's mother.  I know these are such difficult times in a family.  We went through the experience of my wife's mother passing away on Christmas Eve.  We had a household full of company and small children.  We managed to go ahead with the planned activities but also dealing with the saddness and responsibilities of funeral preparation and occurrence.

Hope everyone has a good evening.

Janet

Mary, Did You Know? is my very favorite of all the newer Christmas songs, and is included in the cantata we are doing on Sunday night.  And I still love the oldies---Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, Joy to the World; Angels We Have Heard on High, so many.  I think those we learned as children stay with us throughout our lives.  And I like to hear them sung the original way they were arranged, too.  (Picky, aren't I?)

Karen, hope your hubby gets some answers and nothing serious is found wrong with him.

Larry, you're one of the busiest guys I know.  Bless you.

I just stopped by for a couple minutes, I'm ready to go to the dinner at the care home.  Mom will be waiting for me.  See you all tomorrow!
