JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Morning Devotional...

Trials and Pain:
The Sharp Blade of the Plow

Sow for yourselves righteousness; reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground, for it is time to seek the Lord, till He comes and rains righteousness on you.
--Hosea 10:12

The fallow field is smug, contented, protected from the shock of the plow and the agitation of the harrow.... But it is paying a terrible price for its tranquility: Never does it see the miracle of growth; never does it feel the motions of mounting life nor see the wonders of bursting seed nor the beauty of ripening grain. Fruit it can never know because it is afraid of the plow and the harrow.

In direct opposite to this, the cultivated field has yielded itself to the adventure of living. The protecting fence has opened to admit the plow, and the plow has come as plows always come, practical, cruel, business-like and in a hurry. Peace has been shattered by the shouting farmer and the rattle of machinery.

The field has felt the travail of change; it has been upset, turned over, bruised and broken, but its rewards come hard upon its labors. The seed shoots up into the daylight its miracle of life, curious, exploring the new world above it. All over the field the hand of God is at work in the age-old and ever renewed service of creation. New things are born, to grow, mature, and consummate the grand prophecy latent in the seed when it entered the ground. Nature's wonders follow the plow.
Paths to Power, 31-32.

"Lord, make me a cultivated field. I suspect the price will be high, but I long to bear fruit for Your glory. Do the hard work of the farmer in my life today. Amen."

Marilyn, the Calendar has the information from the member's profile.  It can't be different so not sure where you see that today is Karen's birthday.  ;)

Hi everyone.  We have an overcast day here and by evening may have some sleet and ice again.  Sure hope the trees don't ice up.  However, we are now set with kerosine if we lose the heat.

Janet, I am scheduled to help for just two hours on January 6th so it isn't much of a job.  Our center is going to be open for registering/helping with the Part D of Medicare for just that one day, at least as of now.  I have my Christmas cards done but am now in the process of making phone calls to some relatives and speical friends.  I decided to do that rather than send a card.

I just completed my Christmas gift for our gift exchange so I am ready for our celebration on Monday evening.  My wife is out doing some shopping, including getting food for the Monday evening dinner.  We usually just have  finger foods built around ham.  Our daughter, and a friend of hers, are preparing caramel corn and know that Pat will make some fudge.  Certain traditions must be observed.

Marilyn, my first thought on your picture was an incense burner but I really don't know.

Karmat and Nards, hope you have had a wonderful time with the grandparents today.  Family times are very special and important.

Tbear, glad that they have found the problem although know that it is a disease that Rolan will be dealing with probably for the rest of his life.  I think he will probably have to watch carefully what he eats.  Sorry to hear that he needs to remain in the hospital but I am sure that is for his benefit.

Pat, another fine devotional using some common examples to make us think.

Jeanne, if it is really cold up your way, along with the snow, the power company is probably maxing out at various times.  Glad your power wasn't off for too long.

Hope everyone has a very nice day.

Janet

WE woke up to a layer of white this morning!  Only about two inches or so, but it is pretty.

The Narnia movie was really good, and Abby understood the allegories very well.  After the movie she begged to come home with us so she is here being my helper for the weekend.  ;)

We had our monthly ladies' meeting this morning, at Pat's.  We had each bought a gift for a needy family and brought those.  Only eight women showed up, out of the usual 25-30, some were sick, others didn't come because of the weather, I assume.  We had a nice time though.

This afternoon there is a birthday party for a little disabled girl in the church who is eight today.  It is sad to see one Abby's age who can't even sit up, or eat, talk, or anything........ :'(  It is so hard on her parents.  Anyway, her mom is cooking a lot of food and wants everyone to come, and we need to be supportive of them.  Right after that we have our dress rehearsal for the cantata, then Pat and I will go to the Mennonite Brethren church to enjoy their "Bethlehem Experience."  So it is a busy day today.

My sister from Nebraska called early this morning to tell me they are going on a missions trip the day after Christmas.  They are going to Louisiana to help rebuild a house destroyed by the hurricane.  Their son-in-law and daughter are going, too, and they plan to spend two weeks there, they think they will be doing mostly drywall hanging and finishing.  What a blessing that will be, for them and for the family!

I think I'd better get busy and get some more stuff done around here!

Hi, Larry!  You and I were posting at the same time.  I think I will come to your house, that food sounds good! 8)  I love fudge, but I'm not making any because it would be setting around here and I would eat it.  And I don't want those pounds finding me again! ;)

Good afternoon!  I am to start PT at the chiropractor office Tuesday and they wanted to sell me supplements that I refused.  Too much money going out as it is.  If I continue after the first of the year, I will change chiropractors.  My insurance changes and this chiropractor is not a PPO on my insurance.  So I have to think of myself and my money as well as my health.

Bright and sunny in sunny Indiana today BUT only 28°F.  When I left at 8:30AM, my drive had a drift across it about a foot and a half high but my trusty Chevy plowed right through it!!

Karen, TBear, called me earlier.  She said that the family was going to see her hubby but had some car problems and were waiting on a ride.  Bless her heart...a lot on her plate right now.  Say a prayer or two for her and her family, okay?

Actually, I've already been to Winco to buy the week's groceries.  Earlier I read all the posts here, wrote emails to both senators and one congressman.  So here I am again.

Pat - that was an excellent devotional today.  None of us wants to be plowed, but our Lord knows when and how it needs to be done.  It's always done in His mercy and love, never vindictively or cruelly.  And it always accomplishes its intention.  Oh Father, make me willing.

Etta Sue - of course I don't know what supplements they tried to sell you, but please consider getting Glucosamine/Condroitin and taking that.  It helps a bunch.

Larry Hanna

Janet, I can attest that the fudge is good!  I bet you wonder how I know that?  :)

I just got this in an e-mail from a friend at church and think it is worth reading:

When my son, Nicholas, was in kindergarten it was an exciting season for a six-year-old. For weeks, he'd been memorizing songs for his school's "Winter Pageant." I didn't have the heart to tell him I'd be working the night of the production.

Unwilling to miss his shining moment, I spoke with his teacher. She assured me there'd be a dress rehearsal the morning of the presentation. All parents unable to attend that evening were welcome to come then.

Fortunately, Nicholas seemed happy with the compromise.  So, the morning of the dress rehearsal, I filed in ten minutes early, found a spot on the cafeteria floor and sat down. Around the room, I saw several other parents quietly scampering to their seats. As I waited, the students were     led into the room. Each class, accompanied by their teacher, sat cross-legged on the floor. Then, each group, one by one, rose to perform their song.

Because the public school system had long stopped referring to the holiday as Christmas," I didn't expect anything other than fun, commercial entertainment -songs of reindeer, Santa Claus, snowflakes and good cheer. So, when my son's class rose to sing, "Christmas Love," I was slightly taken aback by its bold title.  Nicholas was aglow, as were all of his classmates, adorned in fuzzy mittens, red sweaters, and bright snowcaps upon their heads.

Those in the front row-center stage -- held up large letters, one by one, to spell out the title of the song.  As the class would sing "C is for Christmas," a child would hold up the letter C. Then, "H is for Happy," and on and on, until each child holding up his portion had presented the complete message, "Christmas Love."

The performance was going smoothly, until suddenly, we noticed her; a small, quiet, girl in the front row holding the letter "M" upside down -- totally unaware her letter "M" appeared as a "W."

The audience of 1st through 6th graders snickered at this little one's mistake.  But she had no idea they were laughing at her, so she stood tall, proudly holding her "W." Although many teachers tried to shush the children, the laughter continued until the last letter was raised, and we all saw it together.

A hush came over the audience and eyes began to widen. In that instant, we understood the reason we were there, why we celebrated the holiday in the first place, why even in the chaos, there was a purpose for our festivities.  For when the last letter was held high, the message read loud and clear:

    "C H R I S T W A S L O V E"

And, I believe, He still is.
    Amazed in His presence...
    Humbled by His love.

Then we are going to the Marina for dinner. Yes I will take my camera. I changed the batteries today just to be sure It would have enough juice.

To prove that I am still around I will make a short post.

Larry I enjoyed the story in the email.  As others have already said Christ was love and He still is.

I hope everyone is doing well.  One week from today will be Christmas Eve and this year Christmas falls on Sunday.  I am looking forward to worship next Sunday, Christmas Day, and then having our whole family at home for Christmas dinner.

My insurance does not cover chiropractor's either.  Now that I am the magic age of 65, Medicare pays for twelve visits per year.  My co-pay is only $7.92.

So it does pay to get older.....for some things at least.

Suppliments can be bought at Sam's Club or Costco a lot cheaper than in regular stores and from Chiroprators.....if you buy the store brand
