JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Are You Looking Forward To His Coming?

Morning Devotional...

A New Year Reminder

Someone once said, "This is the first day of the rest of your life!"  And right now we're facing a brand new year, stretching out before us, filled with promise, yet filled too with the fear of the unknown.  Yesterday was indeed the first day!  This might even be the year in which our Lord returns to His earth.  We don't know when it will be, but it's a certainty that it's going to happen.

In the wondrous Revelation made to John the wonderful day of His appearance is described for us.  It says, "Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him.  And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him."  The invitation to that day's events won't be refused!  That invitation could come this year!  No RSVP is needed!

One of the events of that day will be full disclosure of everything we've done.  Paul put it this way: "For we must all appear before the judgement seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad."

Are you ready for that day?  You can be.  The Psalmist says, "So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom."  That just means we need to realize the brevity of our lives - that we might become wise in making user of our days to "Seek the Lord while He may be found" - to prepare for His coming through repentance and faith.

You have a new year - use it wisely.

Al Moak

Abide With Me

Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
the darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day;
earth's joys grow dim; its glories pass away;
change and decay in all around I see;
O thou who changest not, abide with me.

I need thy presence every passing hour.
What but thy grace can foil the tempter's power?
Who, like thyself, my guide and stay can be?
Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.

Hold thou thy cross before my closing eyes;
shine through the gloom and point me to the skies.
Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee;
in life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.

Good morning, everyone.  I'm feeling mostly better today.  I've slept a LOT, for me.  Not sure what disease I had, but I surely wasn't "well", so it was / is something.

Trav still has that cough, but not as bad.  He's slowly recovering.  Kristi is runny nosed and starved to death at the moment :)  Her oatmeal is on its way.

Welcome to the newcomers; we're very glad to have you here.  We hope you'll stop in often.

Another year has come and gone.

I was looking at my profile today and saw that I have been visiting this site for over a year now.  I must say I have enjoyed this site.  It has some nooks and cranny's that I have not yet visited  Maybe I will get to them this year.

Happy New Year everyone.

Hi everyone from a dark and dreary Georgia.  We had lots of rain during the night and are predicted to have heavy rains this afternoon and perhaps some strong winds as the temps get to 65 or 70 today.  These are the conditions that can produce some really bad storms.

Judy, yes my wife still have sleep apnea but the CPAP machine was ruining her eyes and and teeth.  She found that using a Breathe Right strip at night allowed her to breath more easily and has been doing that the last couple of years.  I am sure it would be better if she were able to use the CPAP machine but I doubt that she does use it again.

Marilyn, glad to see you once again have power but also see that their are more bad storms coming across California and I suppose Oregon.

Nards, glad to read that you and your family are feeling better.

I big welcome to each of our new members here on CP.  I hope you will be posting so we can get to know you better.

This is the day that we have 6 football bowl games, including the big game tonight where Georgia University plays West Virginia.  The games start at 11 am this morning and will run until about midnight today.  I am sure I will work an afternoon nap in there.

Hope everyone has a good day.

The power went out about 9:30 Saturday Morning. The wind blew and the rains came on very heavy. I was at Fay's at the time and her neighbors carport roof blew off,( they are in a trailer park). The roof got hung up in the big Monterey Pine behind Fay's house.  The way the wind was whipping it around sounded like heavy thunder. Fay was in a panic thought we would both be killed by the carport roof, I had a time getting her calmed down. She had the gas for the range but no heat as the central heat is controlled by electricity. The was a lull in the rain when it stopped completely and she sent me on home before it started again.

At home I decided to take my shower and wash my hair wile I could still see. Then I just sat by the window reading most of the day I read 3 cookbooks trying to get idea of things I could make for Fay that she would eat. I had my boombox (radio) on to keep up with the storm damage, highway closures etc. I went to bed about 7 pm and just listened to the radio and spent time with the Lord.

Sunday morning I checked my freezer and refrigerator to see if everything was OK, it it was all still frozen and the fridge part was still cold. I had not opened it up all day on Saturday. I  had thawed out 1/2 of a turkey that I  had the butcher cut in half on Friday so I got that in oven and got ready for church. We had church in the fellowship hall where all the windows are and had several candles lit. I came back home before church started to get my boombox so we would have worship music.

We had a wonderful service with only 19 people present and two of those were visitors. I came home and ate my turkey dinner of sliced breast meat, baked potatoes and carrots, desert was Peanut Butter cookies that I had made on Friday.

Then I went back to church at 5PM for prayer meeting that was held by candlelight there were 10 present. Came back  home prayed for awhile then went to bed and listened tothe radio. The power flickered on a couple of times( I could tell because my anwsering machine and cordless phone beeped), then went off again. It finally came on for  good sometime after 1:30 am.

There are more storms coming in but hopefully  the power will stay on this time.

All the roads coming in and going out of this area were closed because of mud slides nothing coming in or going out, The Safeway store was about out of food according to some who tried to shop  lat Saturday. The roads are supposed to open at least by one lane soemtime today. So that is the adventures of my weekend.

Marilyn and Al ~ My, you are having a time of it out there.  I know you are used to lots of rain but enough is enough!

I have a solar heat panel on my roof.  I finally found papers for it.  It was installed November 16, 1983!!  I called two numbers on the paper this morning and both are out of service.  Now I have found a website that shows replacement top panels...mine is cloudy and gray so not much sun gets through.  But they are in Oregon...wonder if they will answer when I call after 8 a.m. there time?

Not much going on here except I am babying my back today.  Too much sweeping Saturday and standing Sunday.  But I did my exercises this morning and feel much better.

No rain here but it sure is dark and gloomy.  But a balmy 56°F!!

I just turned on the TV to watch the Rose Bowl Parade.  Lots of rain in Pasedena!

Hello Everyone!

My goodness, Marilyn!  What storms!  I'm so glad that you and Al Moak have your power back now though.  Almost sounds like mini tornados!  :eek:

We're having freezing rain here so it's quite dreary here too, Larry.

Thanks so much, Etta Sue for your lovely little graphics.  I so enjoy them.

Thanks everyone else for your messages of encouragement.  They are so helpful.

Please keep on clicking on the little photos above and leaving messages to our members who take the time to post their photos.  It's so encouraging to see a comment under a photo!

Nards and Karma, you get all well soon.  Hope to see some of your new pics, Karma!

I'm so happy you enjoy this site, Ed.  We enjoy your fellowship with us as well.  :thumbsup:

I cannot even remember when I posted the last time here.  I have not even been online much at all these past few months so it's not like I have been avoiding coming here.  I just don't have the computer as much as I used to have it.  Grandchildren at home use it and then at work it's our busy season and no time at all for the computer and goof-oof.

For Pat...you are very dear to me and I really appreciate all you do for this site.  In fact I don't even go to SR anymore.  After I retire in Feb maybe I can get back on-line and get all those things done That have been on hold because of work time.  For Christmas I got a Yamaha 88 keyboard which I want to learn to play. I need to learn the chords, etc. for the left hand.  I hope to be able to incorporate it at church with the children's choir.  Then I need to learn more on the organ I play at church so I can give better preludes and offertories.

We have sunshine here where I am.  Lots of blue sky too. :)  This is a nice reprieve before the next one comes in.

Al and Marilyn, you've sure had your turn at rain.

I hope the roads are open for Jane to get back to Coos Bay today.

Welcome to our newcomers.

Frantz, I commented in your photo before, but congratulations on winning.  You deserve it.  It's a great photo.

Hi, Kathy! :)

Fay is still in Eureka at her sisters house but  went over and cleaned everything out of her refrigerator and thew out some and brought some home. She did not want to keep any of it. Then I went to Versal's and cooked a half of a turkey for her. Came home and now I am doing versal's laundry. Quite around the neighborhodd as usual. I did take a drive around to see some of the damage. I saw where a tree had fallen on a house, the tree was all cut up.  I saw several places like that.

Hi to all its been very busy due to the move to a new house and weddings.  Thank the Lord that he gives us the strength and he has told us in his word that he will do this.  My wife is still having lots of pain in her back and we have given this to the Lord and in his time things will change. We do have a contact ot one of the large hospitals in Toronto and hope to here soon. God is so good and he never fails us and for those of you who are having medical problems if you have not given it to the Lord do so and things will be done as I said in his time. the things that I have just said are just some of the things that Pat and Her husband Jack used to say to me when I firast got saved and they work.  May again God richly bless you all this year. Hi Anna:  Lovely picture of you!

Vernon - congratulations on your Photography, and making Photo of the Week!

You all have such talent!

I'm glad your wife finds success with those nose strips, Larry.

Today we had a phone call that one of Norm's good friends, had a heart attack.  He is only 65, and just retired.
"I am too blessed to be stressed".

I hope that everyone is doing well on this second day of 2006!  This morning's devotional reminds me of a song we sing with the children at church during Advent.  One line says, "Stay awake! Be ready! You know not the hour when the Lord is coming!"

I always like the new year because I can make a new start.  Louisa May Alcott wrote, "Far away there in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead."

Vernon, congratulations on POTW!  What a fantastic photo!

Karma, congratulations on getting the Canon Digital Rebel XT!  I purchased the same camera last summer. I really like shooting in RAW.

Take care everyone!

I'm b-b-a-a-a-ack!!   :thumbsup:

I arrived home (in Coos Bay) about 1 p.m. today.  I left Sacramento in a downpour yesterday afternoon and drove to Redding before stopping for the night.  At the time, the road information was saying "snowing heavily" over the Siskiyou pass with "conditional closures" ... Any other route was either washed out or closed due to rock slides but I had not planned to come home until today anyway and I know my Father alway plans my goings and comings (and stayings) so I just found a place to eat and then returned to the motel and went to bed!

The rain stopped during the night (or early morning) and when I called the road info number the message said "showers and bare pavement" over the pass and the highway from I-5 to Coos Bay had only one "incident" with possible delay of 20 minutes.  Well, I set out and, even when I happened upon the "incident" on highway 42, the westbound traffic had just started moving again so I only had to slow down.   :)  My Father has always ... ALWAYS ... directed my steps and lets me know when I should go and when it is not time yet.  I wish I could convince some "certain people" of this so they would quit worrying about me.    ::)

I had a lot of email and other type mail to go through, and a couple phone calls to make (to assure people that I was home safely) so that is why I am only now getting here.

I trust y'all had a wonderful Chistmas and will enjoy a blessed and prosperous New Year.

After I catch up on some of the stuff I've missed I will have some photos of my two newest great grand kids to show you.  My grandson made a cd for me with a lot of photos of his kids as well as some of his sister Tricia's new baby.  I haven't even had a chance to look at them yet but I will soon!

Until then......... Seeya!
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Pat

Well hello everyone.

It's been raining here so much but it's so good it doesn't have to be shovelled!  LOL  I'm glad it's not snow.  We'll soon get our fill of that.

It's so nice to read all your posts.

I'm so happy you are home safe and sound Jane.  That is so true that the Lord does direct our paths and shows us the way to go in life (and on the road).

Has anyone heard from Al Moak?

So nice to read your message, Kaycee.  Nice quote from Louisa Mae Alcott as well and what a great song the children sang.  It is so true, "Stay awake! Be ready! You know not the hour when the Lord is coming!"

Gord, I do hope that you will come back very soon so that you'll see that there are messages in reply to yours.  When you don't come back for a week or so, you won't ever know what folks said to you.  ;)

That is terrible news, Judy about Norm's friend.

Jesus, Rose of Sharon
(Click to hear music)

Jesus, Rose of Sharon, bloom within my heart;
Beauties of Thy truth and holiness impart,
That where'er I go my life may shed abroad
Fragrance of the knowledge of the love of God.

Jesus, blessed Jesus,
Rose of Sharon,
Rose of Sharon,
Bloom in radiance
And in love within my heart.

Jesus, Rose of Sharon, sweeter far to see
Than the fairest flow'rs of earth could ever be,
Fill my life completely, adding more each day
Of Thy grace divine and purity, I pray.

Jesus, blessed Jesus,
Rose of Sharon,
Rose of Sharon,
Bloom in radiance
And in love within my heart.

Jesus, Rose of Sharon, balm for ev'ry ill,
May Thy tender mercy's healing power distil
For afflicted souls of weary burdened men,
Giving needy mortals health and hope again.

Jesus, blessed Jesus,
Rose of Sharon,
Rose of Sharon,
Bloom in radiance
And in love within my heart.

Jesus, Rose of Sharon, bloom forevermore;
Be Thy glory seen on earth from shore to shore,
Till the nations own Thy sov'reignty complete,
Lay their honors down and worship at Thee feet.

Jesus, blessed Jesus,
Rose of Sharon,
Rose of Sharon,
Bloom in radiance
And in love within my heart.
