JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Morning Devotional...

WALKING IN THE OLD PATHS
Jeremiah 6:16
By the late Jack Scott

15.  The Weeping Woman

They kept me in hospital overnight. This is surely never a pleasant experience, so when the doctor told me I could go, I quickly arrayed myself in yesterday's clothing and walked to the front lobby. Then I looked at the clock. It would be at least two hours before Pat could pick me up. I walked around for awhile, read an out of date magazine, and then spent time watching people come and go. In time I noticed that one of the doors leading off the lobby was different from all the other points of egress for on it was inscribed one word: "Chapel". "Perhaps I can sit quietly inside to pray and read my New Testament", I thought.

I quietly made my entrance into the comfortable looking little auditorium. In the rather dim light I thought I was alone until my eyes became accustomed to this surrounding. I am not sure if I saw or heard her first. Perhaps auditory and optical sense came into operation at the same instant.

The elderly woman sat huddled on a chapel seat at the end of a row, next to the wall. She was poorly clad in a thin, worn coat which would be no match for the cold November wind outside. I had just stepped outside a few minutes earlier in my down-filled jacket and felt the damp chilly weather sweeping in from Lake Ontario and the cold penetrated to my bones. My heart went out to the poor soul weeping alone in the corner. My first instinct was to offer her help but somehow I could not bring myself to enter her world of sobbing solitude. Perhaps I should have offered words of Biblical comfort or at least asked the cause of her lament? These are questions I shall ask of my own heart for a long time to come.

During most of the long drive home I mused on the plight of the poor pathetic old woman who had shared space and time with me. In the days that followed she often came to mind and most of all I thought on the possible causes of her anguish. Had she been diagnosed with some terrible terminal disease? Had a loved one died? Maybe the husband with whom she had shared the vicissitudes of life's journey had passed from time into eternity. The joys and sorrows of the partnership now merely a heartbreaking memory. Or could it be the loss of a son or daughter that caused such heartache? Possibly it was the memory of some dark unforgiven sin or even a totally wasted life? Probably I shall never know what moved my momentary companion to such a display of tears.

This tired old world of ours has many weeping women and many moaning men. Heartbroken and lonely they pass their days in morbid bitterness often unnoticed and forsaken by family and friends. You will find them in our cities and towns, villages and hamlets. Uncounted numbers are parked by insensitive relatives in homes for the aged, senior citizens complexes and the like. But all the weeping, heartbroken people in our communities are not old; they come in every age, and in every shape, height and colour.

Those who are believers in the saving work of the blessed Lord Jesus Christ can, in the face of all this heartache, rejoice in the words of Isaiah 61:1-2, "The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; He hath sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord."

Yes, we can rejoice because the Saviour of sinners applied this Old Testament prophecy to Himself. With reference to the verses quoted above He said, "This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears." (Luke 4:21). Paul says in II Corinthians 1:3, "Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort."

Truly the Son of God is all that God is, made flesh, and all comfort is found in Him. Whatever the cause of the broken heart He can bind up the wounds. If it is a guilty conscience then truly "He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him and with His stripes we are healed." (Isaiah 53:5) and all He requires is repentance and faith in Him.

There is no heartbreak that He cannot heal, no sin that He cannot forgive. There is indeed "balm in Gilead to heal the sin sick soul." Is your soul in need of healing?  Then to you He would say, "Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." (Matthew 11:28-30)

Yes, this tired old world of ours has many weeping women and many moaning men. The poor, materially and spiritually, will always be with us, and despite the fact that the Saviour has come to bind up the brokenhearted, many remain who know not of His love and grace.

James the half brother of our Lord defines "true religion" for us thus: "Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world." (James 1:27) Did James give us these words as a test for the reality of our faith? Can we sit in comfort and unconcern while the elderly sit alone in sorrow and while the young flounder in fear and doubts Christians have a message which meets the needs of all who "labor and are heavy laden". A visit to a senior's home, the sharing of a park bench, a quiet friendly conversation over a cup of coffee may give you the right and the opportunity to declare the message of God's love to some one who feels unloved and helpless. Could you be a friend to a young person in your neighbourhood? There are many who have not found the "Way" and are headed in the wrong direction. Such need to be introduced to the Lord Jesus who said of Himself "I am the way, the truth and the Life" (John 14:6). You must first earn the right by your pure and kindly conduct. Many conversations may be required so that the one in need understands your love and sees reality and sincerity in your actions and words. You must show that you're a friend of the Saviour before you can introduce Him with confidence.

Take an hour a week and spend it in this quiet and perhaps unnoticed service. The Master will notice and on "That Day" will say: "Well done thou good and faithful servant." (Matthew 25:21). Look to the Holy Spirit to guide you, be wise in your approach and He will bring blessing upon your gentle work.

This was written after a hospital stay of November 21, 2000 and it was found by me (Pat) the day after his funeral service on January 14, 2001.  It is a very timely message indeed for the whole family.

Jack Scott loved his Lord! He passed away on January 10, 2001 after a lengthy illness.
He is missed greatly by his family.

Victory in Jesus
(Click to hear music)

Words and Music by Eugene. M. Bartlett

I heard an old, old story, How a Saviour came from glory,
How He gave His life on Calvary To save a wretch like me;
I heard about His groaning, Of His precious blood's atoning,
Then I repented of my sins And won the victory.

Chorus:
O victory in Jesus, My Saviour, forever,
He sought me and bought me With His redeeming blood;
He loved me ere I knew Him And all my love is due Him,
He plunged me to victory, Beneath the cleansing flood.

I heard about His healing, Of His cleansing pow'r revealing,
How He made the lame to walk again And caused the blind to see;
And then I cried "Dear Jesus, Come and heal my broken spirit,"
And somehow Jesus came and bro't To me the victory.

Chorus:
O victory in Jesus, My Saviour, forever,
He sought me and bought me With His redeeming blood;
He loved me ere I knew Him And all my love is due Him,
He plunged me to victory, Beneath the cleansing flood.

I heard about a mansion He has built for me in glory,
And I heard about the streets of gold Beyond the crystal sea;
About the angels singing, And the old, redemption story,
And some sweet day I'll sing up there The song of victory.

Chorus:
O victory in Jesus, My Saviour, forever,
He sought me and bought me With His redeeming blood;
He loved me ere I knew Him And all my love is due Him,
He plunged me to victory, Beneath the cleansing flood.

Gee whiz, Pat!  You slammed the door in my face!  That's not nice!   :clobber:

Fortunately, I had copied my post.  So here's what I had to say about the ministers who preached about letting go of the past.

Yes, it's important to let go of the past.  It doesn't do any good to dwell on things that happened a year or two ago or more.  That part of your life is done and has to be put aside, whether it was good or bad.  Today is here and now, yesterday is gone and tomorrow isn't here yet - and may never come.  We need to concentrate on what is the Lord's will for us right now, not what happened years ago.

Good morning everyone.  We have a rainy day today which we really need.

This morning I have several projects to work on.  I'm going to teach the Sunday School class Sunday because our teacher is going to be out of town.  And Thursday it is my time to speak at the Thursday worship at the nursing home.  I do so little of this type of thing now that I always appreciate being able to do something.

I hope you all have a good day today.

Matt 5:43-48
43   "You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.'
44   But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
45   that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
46   If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that?
47   And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?
48   Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
(NIV)

Eph 2:8-9  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can boast.(NIV)

Papa John - yes, it surely is great when we can get back in the harness, if even only for a little time.  Our pastor here keeps telling me that I'm among them so that they can "honor" me as an elder in their midst.  My response is thankfulness, but also that I'd reather be used than honored.  God bless you brother!

Pat - thanks for one of Jack's wonderful little devotionals!  I remember that you have posted it before, and I love it more each time.  Oh how I hope that when I come where he is I may converse long and warmly with him!

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  Pat it is good to see some of Jack's writings again.  Remember the joys today of your years with Jack.

We are to have another warm day and then rain later tonight.  Yesterday it got up to 70 and suppose to get up to 68 today.  We had a small group at coffee this morning and one of the men who used to come but has moved to another town stopped in this morning, which was nice.

Today is our Learning Center registration for the computer center.  I had signed up to go but called the lady in charge last night and she said she had enough volunteers and really didn't need me so I elected to not attend.

Hope everyone has a nice day.

Marilyn

Good Morning. I may not be able to get back on here this afternoon  until quite late. I have an appointment with they eye Dr. at 1PM and my eyes will be dilated. I had to find a ride. Last time I drove myself home and that was sure a harrowing experience. One of the sisters from church is taking me. I have a small cataract starting and my physician wants me to get it checked out.

She is also trying to hurry up the sleep lab to getting me in there too. It will sure be nice to get a decent night of sleep. The morning headaches are not from CO but from lack of oxygen while I am asleep. I had rough night last night. I know I keep telling y-all about those bad night , it seems like I have to tell someone. I don't mean to sound like I am complaining. I am usually an upbeat kind of person but this is sure getting old.

The Will of God.

The will of God will never take you, Where the Grace of God cannot keep you, Where the Arms of God cannot support you, Where the Riches of God cannot supply your needs, Where the Power of God cannot endow you.

The will of God will never take you, Where the Spirit of God cannot work through you, Where the Wisdom of God cannot teach you, Where the Army of God cannot protect you, Where the Hands of God cannot mold you.

The Will of God will never take you, Where the Love of God cannot enfold you, Where the Mercies of God cannot sustain you, Where the Peace of God cannot calm your fears, Where the Authority of God cannot overrule for you.

The will of God will never take you, Where the Comfort of God cannot dry your tears, Where the Word of God cannot feed you, Where the Miracles of God cannot be done for you, Where the Omnipresence of God cannot find you.

Good morning.  Last night at the Photography Guild, Dr. Wright...medical doctor...showed an over 300 picture slide show of photos he photographed at Glacier National Park last summer.  What wonderful eye candy!  Superb!  If he is as great a doctor as he is a photographer, perhaps I ought to change doctors.  But he isn't afflilated with the hospital that I like.   :'(

Tonight us four ladies are going to 'Beef and Boards' for the dinner theater.  Tonight is an off Broadway show of 'I Love You!  You're Perfect!  Now Change!'  It is advertised as a great date show.  I wonder which of our foursome is my date!   :lol: :lol:

I had one of those sleepless nights last night.  In fact, I watched over 2 hours of TV in the wee hours of the morning.  But since it was another dark, dreary and gloomy mornings here, I did get to sleep in late.  But it will be a late night tonight...early morning tomorrow and late night tomorrow night!!  Oh, well!  I will survive!

The New Alphabet

A is for Apple, and B is for Boat,
That used to be right, But now it won't float!
Age before Beauty is what we once said,
But let's be a bit more realistic instead.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Now A's for arthritis;
B's the bad back,
C is the chest pains, perhaps car-d-iac?
D is for dental decay and decline,
E is for eyesight, can't read that top line!
F is for fissures and fluid retention,
G is for gas which I'd rather not mention.
H is high blood pressure--I'd rather it low;
I for incisions with scars you can show.
J is for joints, out of socket, won't mend,
K is for knees that crack when they bend.
L for libido, what happened to sex?
M is for memory, I forget ! what comes next
N is neuralgia, in nerves way down low;
O is for osteo, the bones that don't grow!
P for prescription's, I have quite a few, just
give me a pill and I'll be good as new!
Q is for queasy, is it fatal or flu?
R for reflux, one meal turns to two.
S for sleepless nights, counting my fears,
T for Tinnitus; there's bells in my ears!
U is for urinary; big troubles with flow;
V is for vertigo, that's "dizzy," you know.
W is for worry, NOW what's going 'round?
X is for X ray, and what might be found.
Y is another year I'm left here behind,
Z is for zest that I still have-- in my mind.

I've survived all the symptoms, my body's deployed,
And I am keeping twenty-six 'doctors' fully employed!!!

Hi all!  Just checkin' in from work for a minute.  Hope all is going well for you.

We got some bad news yesterday.  A young friend of ours was found dead by his mother. :(  His older sister (she's 25) is a good friend of mine.  Riotous living would be my educated guess, but it is still so so sad.  He was only around 21 or 22. Please pray for his family.

Good new.  Tomorrow, the Trav-man turns the big 4!!  He is so funny.  The other night at church he called out to one of the ladies.  "Hi, Lisa.  I just can't control myself."  He loves to get himself dress, even choosing his own clothes.  Some days, he looks better than others. ;)

I gotta run for now, but I did want my presence to be known. haha

This is a good devotional  Pat. I enjoy this song Victory in Jesus.
We have some snow here today and My husband is hoping for more to

Give me summer anytime LOL
Hope you all are having a good day.

Pat, I'm glad you liked the shortbread cookies.  I have to admit that I cannot take credit for the recipe.  It is a family one that I have "stolen" from my mother.  I didn't get any made this year, and promised the other half that I would make a batch early this year....like in time for Valentine's day maybe?

Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes.  I have not been here in quite a while, so have had a lot of "catch-up" reading to do.  My daughter and her boyfriend surprised my by taking me out to dinner to Swiss Chalet.  My daughter was unable to sit at the table to eat with us as she had been called to work a double shift, however, she was a part of the meal because she was the server and spear-headed the birthday song that is done so very loudly in restaurants!

Jane, I didn't comment under any of your photos but did look at them all.  You must have quite the wall of memories!

Pat, I love all the hymns you put in.  I look forward to them each day!

Adri, I had been a "non-attender" for many years.  I received a brochure in the mail "John & Romans" for the church I am now attending about a year ago.  They were handing them out door-to-door.  I decided to go and have not looked back, other than to thank God for pushing me to get out and attend.  It is such warmth, that I miss it when I'm not there.

I have a programmable thermostat and Christmas day discovered that when the batteries die so does your heat.  Needless to say, I am going to be taking some 'ribbing' for a while on this issue.

I have had a quiet but busy start to my New Year.  I was given a couple of extra "office" chores at work for a few days, and that has served to renew my desire (as opposed to need, which still exists) to find full-time employment within the office environment.  Soon, I pray.

And now must move on and get a few chores done.

Chris - if it's no secret what God can do, why doesn't everyone trust Him?

On the song - I didn't know you Brits had cowboys!  (really, it's beautiful)

Jeanne Lee

Oh my goodness, Sue.  I'm so glad you mentioned the batteries in your programable thermostat.  I had forgotten completely about them. :idiot:  Knowing me, if the furnace went out I'd probably panic and call five or six people to come to my resuce.  Then when someone found the problem I'd have such a red face!  Of course, it takes AA batteries and I have everything but, so I'll just have to trust the Lord will keep them going until I get to the store.

Still raining here ont he left coast. But I think the weather reports on NBC today show were greatly exaggerated. It has not been a real heavy rain amd the wind hasn't been bad either.

Chris Saunders: I love what you posted for Pat.  I'd like to copy that, and keep it in my Bible, if you don't mind.

Marilyn:  Norm has sleep apnea too.  He simply cannot wear that thing they give you - its called a "mask" I think.

Jeanne:  We woke up to a house of 60 deg. Sunday morning.  The furnace went out - so we thought.  Turns out it was the thermostat.  Our faces WERE red....as Norm called the gas company.  Fortunately for us, we had insurance, so didn't have to pay.  It would have been over $80.00 for a Sunday call. ;)

Yep, now I'm sure I'll go get some batteries first thing tomorrow.  Well, first thing after I have my coffee...   :coffee:

OK now for the rest of the story.  ::)

 About 3 weeks ago I saw that the mom was not her perky joyful self and started to feel there was something wrong.  ???  I felt for the puppies and thought that the 2 under her ribs was the cause.  On friday she really looked unwell.  Nothing I could put a finger on but there was that nagging feeling.  :yakyakyak:  I called the vet and told him what was going on and he said if they were not born by the due date that he would do a C-section the next day.  I have the priveledge of being in on all surgeries with my pets and am able to help when needed.  When he opened Cimi up there were 7 puppies.  One had died quite a while ago, thus her not being herjoyful self.  then the 1 before and 1 behind the dead pup died as well.   We were fortunate to be able to revive the 4 we have.  With 2 of them it was nip and tuck for a while.  I didn't say any of this till I was able to tell Melaura about the problems.  Cimi is her dog and she was worried about the C-section.   She and the rest of us are just happy that our little Cimi is alive and getting better rapidly.  The puppies are beautiful,  Yes they are pure bread cockers.  I will be selling 3, I need to, to pay the enormous vet bill!

I will soon be traiding my pute in for a better one, this one will go to Melaura, with no modem that way there will be some guidance with the internet sites entered.  My puter will be the one that crashed several months ago with the new faster parts.  I am looking forward to that.  I have news concerning Melaura as well.  Last year she did not do well in school as she had no direction.  In thinking and talking with a number of people she has decided to repeat the core subjects, in order to have the subjects and grades to go on to University.  This will extend her highschool education about another year and a half, or 3 semesters.  Her reasoning is very logical and determination is there.  She is surprising all of us.  Keep her in your prayers as this will be a difficult step going back to a grade 9 program.

This has been a long day.  I am tired and think I will turn early.  Have a good night everyone.
