JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Morning Devotional...

Personal Life:
Hearing From God

Now John himself was clothed in camel's hair, with a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey. Then Jerusalem, all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him and were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.
--Matthew 3:4-5

Let me give you some reasons why I believe God could honor John the Baptist in that day in which he lived.

First, John had the ability to live and meditate in solitude. He knew the meaning of quietness. He was in the desert until the time of his showing forth unto Israel as a prophet. He came out of his lonely solitude to break the silence like a drumbeat or as the trumpet sounds. The crowds came--all gathered to hear this man who had been with God and who had come from God.

In our day we just cannot get quiet enough and serene enough to wait on God. Somebody has to be talking. Somebody has to be making a  noise. But John had gone into the silence and had matured in a kind of special school with God and the stars and the wind and the sand....

I do not believe it is stretching a point at all to say that we will most often hear from God in those times when we are silent.
Dr. Tozer in Christ the Eternal Son, 130.

"Oh, Lord, help me to carve out of my busy schedule some time with 'God and the stars and the wind and the sand.' Amen."

Thanks, Pat ... This is so very true.  We need to find that quiet place an WAIT upon the Lord for His word.

QuoteAs  was trying to watch the President's speech, some  survey company called me as was asking me questions about the Democrats who might be running for Governor of California. How annoying can people get?

Marilyn, just as the President's speech was being announced, my phone rang.  :yakyakyak:  A female voice said "Hi, This is .... " a name of someone who calls me frequently .... Then, before I could respond, a male voice instructed me to "press 1" if I wanted to participate in this survey or "press 2" if I did not .... Well you can guess .... I pressed 2 and hung up.   I think it was probably a ploy to keep me from listening/watching the State of The Union Address.     :ticked:

Lotsa wind and rain today and this evening ... s'posed to continue through the weekend.  Good thing we Oregonians have webbed feet.  ::)  And I am especially thankful for the wood stacked out back ... LOVE the fire on days like this.    :)

I have some business to take care of and then I thnk I'll make a trek to the store even if I have to put pontoons on the car.

All y'all just don't know what you miss by not hearing Nita sing that song... I love it!  I know y'all would too.   :)
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Jane, haha.. Thanks for the compliment about the song. :)

So you're thinking about pontoons on the car?  Why didn't I think of that.

I thought I really might have something bad wrong with my car, and was dreading the bill.  I had an oil leak, and I also smelled raw gas.  The oil leak was just that the valve cover (I think that's what it was)had a couple of screws that had worked loose, and he tightened them.  It wasn't even the gasket.  He didn't even charge me for this

The gas smell......I needed a new fuel filter.  The bill was $88.  I really like this guy.  :)

I went to town earlier tonight and a garbage can ran across the street in front of me.  The wind was just whipping it along.  No harm came to it, as it reached the curb in plenty of time.  I did slow down to give it a chance to reach safety.

I watched the President's speech without interruption.  Not one call. haha

I think I'll try to get to sleep early tonight and see if I can get more than 4 hours. :)   love ya,  nita

We have an unusual atmospheric condition this morning.  I think they call it "rain."  Actually, it's been raining most of the time for about a month.  We're up to about 36 inches now, and the normal for the whole season, ending in June, is about 38 inches.  So we'll have lotsa water this year.  I'm thankful our Lord waters and refreshes the earth, and I'm thankful He knows how much we really need, and that it isn't left up to us humans to determine where, when, how much, etc.

Gotta go to the fitness center today.  Missed yesterday because I had to have a filling done at the dentist's.  So now I have one less hole in my head.

JudyB

Well the news is not good.   The car is not repairable.  I am not sure what we are going to do.  God is going to have to provide us with some wheels somehow.  Times like this I see the benefits of living in the city, we at the least would have busses to get where we would want to go.  In the country we have a 1/2 hours drive before we get to any bus.

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  Just back from coffee and getting caught up on my e-mail and discussions here and on SeniorNet.  As I was leaving the cafe this morning a patrol car came by with its lights blinking.  I looked over my shoulder and here was this hugh house being towed up the side street by the cafe and had to make a 90 degree turn onto the main road in front of the cafe.  Fortunately I was able to get ahead of it but my daughter got caught while it turned.  She said it took up the whole street.  It was certainly an unexpected site.

You all out on the West coast are having so much rain and folks in the south are so dry.  So far we have had a very mild winter.

JudyB, sorry to read that you experienced car problems and now to see that the car is unrepairable.  Those can be so frustrating and certainly interfere with our plans.

Papa John, was certainly glad to see that Cornelia is doing better and hope she had a good night.

I watched the President's speech last night.  I didn't think he really said very much.  Aren't we all so glad to have all the pundits tell us in advance and then afterward what he met since we are not competent to decide that for ourselves.  UGH!!

Pat, thanks for the devotional today.

Janet, did Abby's team win their game?

Good to see everyone posting.

What a GREAT devotional today Pat !! :cheer:
I SO... agree! God has been RENEWING this place with me lately.
I feel so STRONG when I come out of a place of quietness and solitude with God. i find that if I don't take that time, my OLD
reactions and ways of thinking come back and I don't act like the mature wowan I am!

We SO DESPERATLY NEED God and TIME with Him !!
It is SO VITAL to LIVE the Christian life!

HE IS OUR LIFE!
And we NEED Him to fill us EVERY SINGLE day !
Thank you Pat and everyone else on this site for sharing your hearts and your wisdom with us.

:clap: YOU are ALL a GREAT encouragement! :clap:

God Bless

A life lived for God leaves a lasting legacy.

Not much going on today.  I do see the sun trying so hard to shine...trying to push its way through the atmosphere.  I spent too much time online yesterday...need to get my feet up today.

I like your new tag Etta Sue.

Good Morning everyone, Thanks Pat for the devotional this morning.
QuoteOh, Lord, help me to carve out of my busy schedule some time with 'God and the stars and the wind and the sand.' Amen."

I do spend time with God in the early morning hours before I turn to the computer to get my email out of the way. But I fell like I need to spend more time with God throughout the day and in the evening. Yesterday I did leave some of my Bible reading until  came home from  my busy day. I read a couple of chapters in the Story of Joseph.

Outside it looks like Al is so right, lots of wet stuff and some wind. The Bebe wanted out in the middle of the night and was soaked when she came back in. I could hear the wind off and on during the night.

Nita I know how you feel with only a little sleep. If I don't keep busy during the day I will be almost instantly asleep. It is so embarrassing when some on is talking to me and I am dozing off like I am not even listening. then trying to make some excuse why I am not answering or why I am falling asleep. People don't seem to understand when you tell them it is a medical problem.

Thanks for this great devotional today Pat.
I was out to our prayer meeting last night and this was my prayer-to hear the voice of God.
I have made a copy of this devotional to keep it refreshed in my mind.
WE are in the midst of our first winter storm and its going to be a major  one about 40 cm before its all over. Looks like a day to stay inside and spend a bit of time on my computer. (LOL)
Blessings to all At CP

Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus
(Click to hear music)

Ephesians 6:13

Author:  George Duffield, 1818-1888
Musician:  Adam Geibel, 1855-1933

Stand up, stand up for Jesus, ye soldiers of the cross;
Lift high His royal banner, it must not suffer loss.
From victory unto victory His army shall He lead,
Till every foe is vanquished, and Christ is Lord indeed.

Stand up, stand up for Jesus, the solemn watchword hear;
If while ye sleep He suffers, away with shame and fear;
Where'er ye meet with evil, within you or without,
Charge for the God of battles, and put the foe to rout.

Stand up, stand up for Jesus, the trumpet call obey;
Forth to the mighty conflict, in this His glorious day.
Ye that are brave now serve Him against unnumbered foes;
Let courage rise with danger, and strength to strength oppose.

Stand up, stand up for Jesus, stand in His strength alone;
The arm of flesh will fail you, ye dare not trust your own.
Put on the Gospel armor, each piece put on with prayer;
Where duty calls or danger, be never wanting there.

Stand up, stand up for Jesus, each soldier to his post,
Close up the broken column, and shout through all the host:
Make good the loss so heavy, in those that still remain,
And prove to all around you that death itself is gain.

Stand up, stand up for Jesus, the strife will not be long;
This day the noise of battle, the next the victor's song.
To those who vanquish evil a crown of life shall be;
They with the King of Glory shall reign eternally.

John will be back later tonight.  I have been talking to our pastor about the vehicle situation, and it looks like there is an answer in the works.

It is -1 yet it feels much colder.  I was outside last night while we waited for the tow truck.  Today I can't seem to warm up.

Well I will be back later

GRANDMA'S GARDEN
I watched my grandma hoe the clay soil in my garden. "Don't see how you
grow anything in this," she mused.
"Colorado soil can't compare to yours in Iowa, Grandma!" I stared at her in
awe, capturing the moment in my memory forever. Wisps of her silvery hair
sneaked from beneath her headscarf as her thin torso bent down to pull a
fistful of bindweed.
"This stuff will grow anywhere," she laughed. "Even in this soil!"
Although she lived alone on the Iowa farm she and Grandpa had settled a
half century ago, she still maintained a garden that could sustain most of
Benton County! Some of my favorite summer childhood days had been spent in
her garden helping her pull up plants she identified as weeds, or planting
vegetables and flowers. She had taught me that gardening wasn't only about
cultivating plants, it was about cultivating faith. Each seed planted was
proof of that. When I was seven I asked, "Grandma, how do the seeds know
to grow the roots down and the green part up?"
"Faith," was her answer.
When I grew up and married, my husband recognized the impression Grandma's
dirt left under my fingernails and in my heart. He supported my dream to
live outside the city. Our two-acre plot had a horse, dog, cat, rabbit, six
hens and, of course, a large garden. I was privileged and overjoyed to have
Grandma working in it.

Grandma leaned the hoe next to a fence post and walked to my flower bed to
help me plant the daisies she'd brought from her garden to mine. She didn't
know I was watching as she patted the dirt around the base of a plant.
Waving her hand in the sign of a cross above it, she whispered, "God bless
you, grow."

I'd almost forgotten that garden blessing from my youth. Ten years later,
those daisies still flourish.

Grandma is tending God's garden now but still influences me daily. Whenever
I tuck a seedling into the earth, I trace a small cross above it in the air
and say, "God bless you, grow." And in quiet times, I can still hear her
blessing, nurturing my faith. "God bless you, grow."

Papa John

Well, I was at the hospital almost all day. Martha brought me home about 6:00 this evening and she went back. They walked Cornelia down the hall twice today. They also took her for an x-ray. They took her later for a c-scan. The doctor came in and talked with us. When she goes home she is going to have oxygen because of the injury to her heart. He said she might go home Friday but he wasn't sure of it right now.

Thank you again for your prayers.

Praise God Papa John.  God is Good......ALL THE TIME.

Now Janet how is Beth?

Janet

Papa John, I am so happy to read the good news of Cornelia's improvement and that she may come home soon!  Thank you, God.

JudyB, thanks for asking.  Beth is doing well.  Today is the first day I didn't go to see her; I was in Garden most of the day, then church tonight; but I called her and she was doing fine.  I have washed her clothes, and got her some snacks to take to her in the morning.

Larry, yes, Abby's team won their little game!  :)  Some of those little second graders are already pretty salty basketball players!  But I could tell Abby's heart wasn't in the game, and she told me later that she didn't want to play, "But Mom signed me up."  She really wants to play volleyball.  She is one of the two tallest girls in second grade, but if you don't want to do it, you're not going to do your best at it, I guess.  They played 6 minute quarters, and were fun to watch.

I was really hurting when I came home from the chiropractor, so I wrapped up in a blanket to listen to the President's speech.  I felt beter today but am now hurting pretty badly again, so I'm off to bed now.

I just wanted to check in, in case you missed me!  ;)
